Our friends in Worcester have a nice golden retriever, so we stopped at this Petco to get him a dog toy. The store has a good selection of dog toys and it's roomy and well lit. I really did not spend a lot of time in the store to check out the other departments like fish, cats or rabbits. But their dog selection is ample and varied. Nice lady at the cash register doing the check out. read more

My elderly dad bought a bag of Purina Pro Plan dog food that was contaminated with pantry bugs. Dog food is kept in an entry closet not near other food. We had to throw that food out and do a deep clean. I went back to the store to get another bag (thinking this was a one off problem) and see moths flying around the dog food bags. I bring this up to the cashier and she said management is aware and it is a distributor problem. I will never buy dog food here again. read more

Generic brand pet store. Has all the basics you'd need. For some reason people expect presidential service from minimum wage employees. Crystal, you can wait 5 minutes for you're online you impatient cow. read more

I recently had a bad experience at the groomer with my 19 year old medium fur cat who had a few mats in his fur. I didn't expect him to be completely shaved! My poor baby was shivering and wasn't himself.. they also accidentally nicked his bag leg and one of his nipples. It's not worth the price that I paid.. don't take your cat here.. read more

I went to Petco the other day because my regular small business pet store had closed early and I needed to get some food for my cat. None of the employees were wearing PPE. Does Petco not provide anything to employees, or are they forbidden from using anything? When I got to the register, the associate who checked me out seemed completely disengaged and spent the duration of the transaction texting on his cell. I was never even offered a bag. I simply got an unenthusiastic "Here you go" when he handed me my receipt. No "Thank you," Take care," "Have a nice day," etc. Before I could even finish getting my stuff off of the counter, him and another employee had stepped away chatting. I will definitely only be supporting the smaller independently owned pet stores from now on! read more

I used to always shop at this place. Went there tonight and couldn't find anything, the place was a mess, it was looking like a flea market. I'm not going back. It was an uncomfortable experience to say the least. read more

Between this petco in Shrewsbury and the auburn one I hands down prefer going to this one 100%. This petco is a lot bigger and brighter in setting. The staff seem a lot nicer. Everything in the store is more organized and clean. I've taken my dog Liam for grooming as well as his puppy training. Grooming - no matter who he gets for a groomer, they always do an awesome job. He comes out looking white and fluffy, smells amazing and looks fashionable with his bandana. They always say 4-5 hours but he ends up usually being finished by 3 hours at most. Pricing wise I say would be average, $57 for a full bath, but I usually always wait for Petco to send some kind of coupon to my email, whether its 20% off a full bath or free upgrade which makes it worthwhile. Doggy training - he was signed up for puppy training one and two with Michelle, who was awesome! I have to say that with all his training from petco, he's definitely more well behaved with the weekly conditioning he received. They always usually have deals for the puppy trainings as well. Vetco: I've gone here a few times for Liam to get his heart worm, tick and vaccines. They always do a good job, prices are definitely affordable. I have to say vet staff is constantly changing, its usually a different set of vet staff each time I go. So if you're furry friend isn't kind to different vet staff, probably better off sticking to your veterinarian. Summary: Definitely would recommend to bring your furry friend here! Pros: Convenient location; white city plaza in Shrewsbury, so you can run some errands while waiting for your furry friend Friendly groomers/trainers and staff in general read more

Please if you love your dog don't take him/her to this groomers. I should've listened to advice when they warned me not to take my dog to Petco but I did anyways and paid the price for it. My dog was so traumatized when he came back from the groomers that I was honestly thinking about taking him to the vet. He kept crying and biting himself and wouldn't stop doing this for two days. Don't take your dog to these big corporate grooming places they DO NOT care about your dog! They hire people with no grooming experience and train them for two weeks and then this happens. It's better to take your dog to a mom and pop's groomers where they actually care about their business your dog and customer service. read more

This location is okay. Some of the employees are friendly and some are not. I usually don't ask for help coming in here because the vibe is kind of like "help yourself". And definitely never ever does anyone ask if you need help. Sometimes, like today I had to take an item out of a packaging because they literally stocked them in plastic when they are usually available for individual sale. They don't even have a price for whole sale so you know they definitely should be opened for display. If you know what you're looking for, go ahead but if not then go to a more friendly location or better yet go across the street to Loyal Companion (: they are so much more friendly over there & helpful if you need information! read more

Petco - Pet Stores Near Me - Shrewsbury, Massachusetts

I love Petco. I wholeheartedly, and wholesomely do. They have such wonderful products and I can almost always get everything I need when I do make the trip.ALMOST. Sadly my 4 finicky boys are allergic to a lot of different foods. and sadder still, the ONLY brands of food that my guys can tolerate are NOT carried by Petco ( or Petsmart for that matter) I've only been able to buy them from independent stores or online. Now, petco does sell some very high end and top quality foods for cats and dogs. They also have a large variety of said top quality foods. Before I had 4 dogs I had 1 that would eat the Earthborn brand as well as the Wellness Brand and he did very well on those. Nutro was the cheaper brand I would buy when things got tight, but still a good good food for the money. I will still frequent the shampoos and eye cleaner aisle. They have a lot of stuff to keep your pup and household, clean, fresh and flea free. This new location is brand new and spiffy compared to that last one. The best part is they do the clinic vaccinations all the time now ( weekly schedule is online) so I would definitely take advantage of that this year! its only $20 for just the rabies vaccination per dog. The whole package of shots I believe is about $80. Never had the grooming service done but I have heard horror stories so I will heed them for now. read more

Absolutely abhorrent behavior from their manager. Illegal practices, customer is always wrong attitude. Please never shop here, save your time, money and stress. Go literally ANYWHERE else. I bought two items 2 days ago before going grocery shopping at the Shaws next door. Figured it would be convenient. The store really doesn't have a great selection on a lot of things, but we needed a new harness for my dog and wanted to shop in person because the harness we bought on Amazon didn't fit great. I bring the old harness in and compare it to the size of the new harness, seems like it would fit since it's bigger. My husband pays with his credit card for the new harness and a bag of treats. Cashier doesn't give us a receipt, only asks if we want a bag and we say no because we only have two items. Next day I untighten the straps all the way, the waist doesn't fit by probably a half inch. Back to the drawing board. Fast forward to tonight after working a long hard day helping other people for 8 hours, my husband and I go back to do a simple exchange. We take the old harness and the tag it came with up to the register with the exact same style and priced harness from the same company 1 size up. We explain the situation, kid behind the counter calls the manager over. We have the credit card transaction up on my husband's phone from Tuesday, explain we were never given a receipt and we just want to exchange for a larger size. The manager tells us she can't reprint a receipt when given the date, approximate time, last 4 digits of the card used, and the actual card that the purchase was made with because we're not part of their rewards program. And that the only way to look up a receipt is by rewards program information. In all the years I've worked retail and been a manager, I've never heard of any point of sale system in any store, restaurant, pop up business, gas station, etc where given a time, date, amount of transaction, and credit card number where you couldn't look up a receipt. There's several reasons for this being an industry standard. A customer could change their mind at another point and ask for a receipt. A receipt can get messed up if it's printed at the end of a roll and it needs to be reprinted. It's illegal not to keep business of a sale, not to give a customer a receipt, and a bait and switch practice which in the state of Massachusetts is again, illegal, under consumer protection laws. So I find it hard to believe that any company wouldn't have something like that on their POS system. The manager proceeds to berate me about how there's no possible way that their cashier didn't give me a receipt. She starts yelling about how its corporate policy, that her computer doesn't work like that. If you're not part of their crappy rewards program they can't help you. I explain the laws in Massachusetts about returns and business practices, show her the law under mass general laws on my phone from the ma.gov site. She continues to yell at me in front of about how if she processes the exchange (and yes, you read that right, EXCHANGE, not return, same prices, store would literally not lose a dime) that she would be fired. And asks me if I'd like her to be fired. At this point there's a line behind us. I literally just want her to do her job. At this point it's been a absurd amount of time of going back and forth about what should have taken any competent retail manager approximately less than a minute to do. I tell her hey I can call your legal department, the attorney general's office or the better business bureau and they can tell you the exact same thing. She FINALLY processes the exchange. I've never had a worse customer service experience for something so routine in my entire life. And I used to be a Comcast customer. If Karen truly has that bad of a job for such an awful company, I hope she quits and goes to literally any other retail store that's desperate to hire right now. I will never shop at another PETCO ever again. If I get a gift card as a present, I'll donate it to Baypath Humane Society. read more

We just had the WORST experience at Vetco in Shrewsbury and will never be returning. We booked an appointment for our dog who has had an ear rash two weeks in advance (there was no availability to come in before then). We confirmed the appointment via text the night before and received a text that said our appointment is confirmed. When we arrived at the appointment as scheduled, we were promptly told we didn't confirm 24 hours in advance so they gave the appointment to someone else. We showed the man at the front desk our confirmation texts and talked to the vet and were met with hostile attitudes from everyone we interacted with. She talked down to us saying "they didn't have time to sit around and wait for late confirmations." We could not even get one word in once the Vet tried to gaslight us into believing we did not confirm our appointment. Unfortunately, this is not the first time we've had appointment issues at this location. It seems as if every time we make an appointment we can never be seen by the vet, or must wait weeks to even get in. We will never be returning to Vetco at any a location. read more

It may as well be called Dogco... went in looking for a few items for my senior cat and they had nothing. This place sucks ‍

I had an excellent experience with Vetco. Staff were both friendly and helpful. Dr. Vera Gonzalez is knowledgeable, and my two nervous tomcats that were crying all the way there calmed down and were perfectly quiet on the way home. read more

Rude service today from the groomer in Shrewsbury, MA! While I love Petco in general, the person at the grooming desk today was unpleasant and snapped at me, embarrassing me in front of another customer. In fact, that customer actually turned around and left when she witnessed the groomer's response to my request for an appointment. Glad I left and visited another groomer where I was greeted like a valued customer. Definitely won't be back to the Petco in Shrewsbury! read more

Staff is either great or horrible here. No in between. Management seem to be very responsive but staff generally claim ignorance whenever possible. We have small dogs but when there is a special we buy 2 bags of food and should get a discount but staff always gives us grief. Unfortunately our dog food does not come in the size for the coupon. We always have to have management approve it without problems. Asking staff for help for suggestions is next to impossible. Prices are average and location is good. read more

When entering the store I was overwhelmed with a strong and pungent wet dog odor. Clearly a result of the dog grooming station right next to the front door. I came to buy litter box for my cat hoping they would have a better selection then Target. I found the selection smaller and not nearly as good. Disappointed I opted not to buy one and thought I'd check out the fish tanks and tropical birds. The birds were lively and looked healthy and well cared for. Having had a fish tank for years I found their selection pretty good. A few tanks looked less then healthy but on the whole I was more impressed with their tropical fish and birds sections then any other part of the store. read more

Store closes at 8 on Sunday . Got there at 7:20 and the door already locked. Will just order anything I need online from other retailer

They are ok, when they have clearance items. The employees here seem to make it game of how to avoid talking to a customer. Last time I was in the store I had to chase down an employee to let them know one of the betta fish had bellied up in it's bowl. The sad thing is the employee passed me and when I tried to talk to him, he increased his pace and tried to get to the back room so he didn't have to talk to me. Another time I had to inform an employee that one of the mice had made a meal of another mouse and half of it was gone while the cannibal mouse was chowing down on it. I am sure not the employees best day but honestly how inattentive that they don't at least check on the animals every few hours. If you have a specific pet question the employees there really aren't knowledgeable, not saying they needed to be vets or product experts but at least know enough about the products they carry and what animals those products are compatible with like don't go recommending a water filter that causes a lot of motion for a tank with betta fish in it. read more

wow, people complaining that a pet store smells like pets. welcome to the world. i took my nastiest cat here to get his nails clipped. the 2 girls in the grooming shop were busy, but pleasant and smiling, and they quickly got thru 3 dogs nail clipping before me, and then did a great job on my big boy. for 10 bucks. The new Petco looks nicer than the old one. It looks cleaner but still lack luster service. I waited 5 minutes to self groom my dog. Only to find out that the system was down and I should carry around a copy of a rabies certificate. In most places, once you've been there before, you don't need to carry around the certificate with you. I was pressed for time to begin with, and wasted my time waiting for a response she could have told me when I first walked up to the counter. Their system seems to always be down. read more

The grooming department is outstanding and my two pups are so excited at every appointment! The staff bent over backwards to offer advice and help when both dogs were sprayed by a skunk 10 minutes before they closed on a Saturday night! If you're trying to go to the aquatics department don't bother going here. Or at least be prepared to wait over an hour to see an associate despite multiple requests for assistance. We took our dog there Sunday to get her nails done. A guy named Matt did the best job ever. PET LOVERS BEWARE!!! Brought my pups in to be groomed and at first I thought they did a great job. I was even planning to bring back a bigger cash tip the next day. When I got home my large dog was scared and refused to be touched and acted worse as the week went on. When he finally let us touch him without cowering or crying we found multiple cuts all over his body. My guess is from the deshedding treatment, but never has this been an issue at other groomers. We warned the groomer that our Pomeranian sometimes get small mats of hair behind his ears. While we assumed they would just brush them out they took clippers to the area and buzzed the area!! Completely unnecessary and lazy. They could have left them and I would have taken the two minutes to brush them out at home. I am severely disappointed and hope this experience did not make my dogs hate groomers in the future. Save your self the money and save your pets the abuse. Go somewhere else! read more

Absolutely awful experience. My puppy has been going here for grooming for almost 2 years. Usually the groomer shaves her even when I tell her not to but I didn't make a big deal because my dog was comfortable there and that's what mattered to me. I can no longer say that after the experience the other day. We got there and I expressed that I had an emailed coupon for my dogs services that day and they seemed less than pleased. They said that it probably wouldn't be valid but the email stated that the coupon was for any grooming service and was not outdated. I understand that they make commission but it was extremely unprofessional and made me uncomfortable. I came back to pick my dog up and they told me that her services would be more expensive because she had to have a flea bath. My dog was at the vet 2 days prior and was fully checked for fleas and ticks and did not have any. She is also brushed everyday and bathed once a week so I know that was a lie to add to the bill. No one called me to ask for my permission or to fill me in. I was confused so I asked to speak with her groomer and they said they would "try to find her" but didn't. I simply had questions. On top of all of this when we got home my dog hid under the table for 2 hours which has never happened after being groomed and is completely out of character. My dogs safety and well being is extremely important to me and should be important to them as well. I will not be returning and will be suggesting that my friends and family don't either. I would suggest going somewhere that values your pets well being over their commission. read more

The store it's great, and so its the grooming services. However, the training classes are not as I had expected. The trainers could probably be very talented and knowledgable, but this is probably something I never found out due to class cancellation. My dog was only able to attend one class, as her trainer cancelled so much and so consecutively that I gave up showing up, even after the classes were paid. Also it would have been nice if they called prior to us showing up. Instead we would find out at the store, in days that I had schedule to accommodate the trainers time. Very unprofessional. read more
