HORRIBLE!! Beware. Do NOT take your dog to the grooming in Venice. Curtis SHAVED my golden retriever when we asked for a trim and bath. SHAVED HIM!! We are absolutely shocked and devastated. A golden should NEVER be shaved like that especially in July in Florida. He has divots all over his body and marks where he was shaved too close. Shannon, the salon manager admitted that my dog has a long road to recovery ahead of him. We were told that his protective layer of fur that was wrongly removed may never grow back correctly. I have to watch him outside so he doesn't get overheated or sunburn. Extra vitamins, brushing and bathing to try to stimulate growth. He was traumatized when he came home. Shannon said she watched the cameras and that he was not mistreated but honestly - we are unsure. How else do you get divots everywhere??? As for Curtis- i was informed that he has had numerous bad haircuts before and that they would "add it to his file" while he will remain on staff. I'm shocked. My dog had a great trim last time as first time. But We had a horrible experience for the second time.The trim was so uneven and unprofessional. A few days after, I noticed that his right armpit had a injury from the cut. First time service was really good. I wish I could say the same for the second time around. My dog is a small Maltipoo and a very gentle dog . The groomer told me that he was not on his best behavior and tried to bite her when she tried to cut some parts of his legs(when he tries to bite his lip tremble and is very soft he might as well lick you). Their grooming service is inferior, cheap, and you get what you pay for, horrible service. The company want business but if you pet has a minor illness they immediately do not want to take care of your pet. It seems they do not like animals for some reason. My groomer was late so I could not check the dog in... they decided to call the groomer and he wasn't coming in because of a family emergency..The manager told me i have to reschedule or come back at 2 pm. i told them I came from a long distance and asked them to accommodate me... They would not give me any alternatives and were rude at the same time. This is not the first time the screwed up an appointment. about3 months ago i had an appointment and showed up and they told me there was a flood in the grooming room so they weren't grooming until further notice... i never got a call to tell me this and another wasted trip to Petco. My dog was a mess and needed a bath badly! Not that I couldn't toss her in the kitchen sink, scrub her down, and be done with it. The problem is she is getting a little hefty, and I get her to endure her bath with an assortment of treats, which = more heftiness. Petco came to the rescue with my last-minute call before the New Year. They did an excellent job. My pup is fluffy, fragrant, and beautifully clean - ready for the new year. The staff at this Petco is always very nice, helpful, and friendly, however I feel like the store isn't always very clean. For example for the past few times when I went to get hay for rabbits, I have left and gone to the other Petco on south Tamiami because of there being spiders and eggs? Or insect poop? I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it covers the bags of food. Not only do I want to bring that into my house, but I won't feed that to my animals. Maybe that spot of the store just doesn't get as covered as the rest but the other Petco in Sarasota are very clean and I had no issues there. Honestly shocked with the customer service at this petco. Just moved to the area and this was my first time going to this store. I had a grooming appointment at 1pm, due to traffic in downtown Sarasota I was going to be a little late, I called them to let them know and the girl on the phone (Brianna) said if we were over 15 minutes late that we'd have to reschedule. I arrived in the door at 1:14 and waited in the grooming lobby for a few minutes. Brianna the groomer comes out with a very rude attitude and tells us we have to reschedule and that my dog was a bigger size than was stated. She was extremely rude and I will NEVER go to petco again. I've already made an appointment with a local groomer that is extremely professional and kind. read more

My first time taking my little one to this grooming salon they did a fantastic job! So I was so excited to take my golden retriever here to get hair cut and looking all gorgeous. However, they called me 20 min after dropping her off and said when they put her on the table she start shaking from being nervous so they didn't feel comfortable grooming her! Really, it was such bs the truth is they didn't want to do groom her as it was going to take a long time. They told me to take her to a vet clinic to get groomed which Im doing but when I picked her up they were rude in a silent way it was superAwkward! These girls were just not experienced at all! I wish the main groomer that was w my little one the first time was working she's the only one that knows what she's doing. read more

Just moved here and excited to go in and buy snacks for my maltese. After going to a few Petco's in California, I was expecting a great assortment of snacks too. Unfortunately, this location did not have much selection. Although I was told they are currently unloading a palette from a delivery, their attitude in sharing that information, was less than welcoming. Maybe I came on an off day for them, but I'm very disappointed in their customer service; so much that I am looking for a PetSmart rather than coming back to this location. Living out near Myakka, it's expected that my house contains multiple critters. Ever since this darn Petco opened off University Ave, I have been a frequent shopper. Sometimes I stop in because the ferrets need food, sometimes i stop in because the bearded dragons are hungry. Regardless, Petco is always able to service my various needs. I signed up for their customer card which allows for great savings. I bought 6 fish from there and one of them died the next day so I went to get it replaced and they refused to. 3 months later my father and I went back to buy some things for the tank and we also saw 2 fish we wanted to buy. All together we had about $150 worth of items ready for checkout. When we asked for the 2 fish, the "manager" told is no because of the 1 fish that had died 3 months earlier!!! I was appalled walking over to the reptiles. As I took a look at their Leopard geckos I realize that they were all skin and bones. Their tails should be fat and not shriveled up. There was a larger gecko in the front of the cage and my boyfriend thought he was dead because he was so thin we could actually see all his bone poking out. This was just really upsetting to see animals being neglected like this. I'm going to call management and hopefully something will be done. read more

We have two dogs, a Boston and a Shiba Inu. I have been going here to have my Shiba groomed for about a year now and we never had any problems until Sarah P had her on her schedule. We walked in to check them in and I told her to do what they ALWAYS get done. I had never seen this girl before so I reiterated that the Shiba gets bathed and shaved down and the boston gets a bath. She sighs loudly and then tells us the SHE doesn't recommend us shaving OUR Shiba. (Well for one we didn't ask her and could careless what she suggests as she isn't the owner and we have never had a problem with shaving her) so we go back and forth about why she wouldn't recommend this and it came down to my boyfriend asking her if she was too lazy to do it or if she just didn't have the time. She finally after 10 minutes said that she didn't know how to do it and she hasn't had experience with clippers. I was extremely displeased with her which is a shame because when Jason worked in the grooming department he always did a fantastic job! I've taken my dog twice for grooming to this Petco. Having had many dogs and been to many groomers, I find them to be one of the better ones. The grooming area is very clean, and you can see what they are doing because there is lots of glass. They asked all the right questions. The groomers are very good and very easy to work with.
