My son and I signed up for 4 private dog training lessons with Jordan. She was AWESOME! We have a large 8 month old puppy who thinks he is a lap dog and loves to jump up to greet people, which can be dangerous. Jordan gave us very helpful ways to work with him on those and many other issues. Our puppy, Carl, loved walking through the door and looking for Jordan. She really helped us and we would recommend her to anyone having training issues with their dog. read more

This Petco has everything you need inside. My favorite part was the clothing selection for the dogs as it was more than I've seen before. Lots of clearance items and deals and plenty of selections for food, treats, toys, etc. The staff were sweet and my cashier helped me save some money with a deal they were offering. Do not take your pets to be groomed at this location. The groomer cut the nails of our dog to bleeding on one foot and then did not disclose the injury when we picked up our pet. We only discovered the cut on the way back as he bled on our seat. We went to the emergency clinic to ensure no infection and to clean the wound. The supervisor said that "it happens" and did not appear to have any empathy or compassion for the mistakes that the groomer had made and was dismissive. It was frustrating to have to advocate for our pet when the damage was inflicted by Petco's own groomers. To top it off, our pet's leash was soaking when we picked him up. read more

Petco responded and asked me to call them. I have moved out of state, my dog was groomed yesterday and they did a fabulous job. It took them over 4 hours to get all the mats out and de shed her plus trim her nails and paws. Over $200! I will never go to Petco again! Store: incredibly understaffed. Feels like it's struggling to stay in business and about to go under. Poop bags outside are always out, despite me telling the staff two days in a row. Staff on the floor: invisible. Do they hide on purpose to avoid answering your questions and actually working? Prices: high unless you have coupons, so if you're willing to pay that much, why not support a local pet store or pet boutique. Grooming: they do their best with the little space and 2 people staff they have. Best price I've found so far and cheaper than Petsmart grooming, so complain I might, but come back I have to. Schedule in advance because there's literally only ONE groomer here. And one bather. I'm confused at such small grooming staff considering the high demand of Santa Fe's plentiful and vibrant dog community. Well, I can't give the management of this store much credit. I overheard another shopper's experience today and it made ME cringe, and I wasn't even directly affected. Customer has a cart full of stuff, gets rung up by Teresa, and mentions at the end of the transaction that another associate promised her a free bag of food for signing up in Petco's rewards program. She states "as a new member" . . . and waits for Teresa to fulfill this offer. Teresa responds "if you had told me that before I finished your transaction I could have" done something about it. Teresa does not apologize, does not ask if the other associate gave the customer a coupon (I don't know if there is one or not), and then proceeds to ramble on about how now that the transaction is complete the only way she can make good on the free food offer, which is tied to a purchase over a certain dollar amount (to a shopper who repeats to Teresa that she JUST PAID over $300, for supplies for a dog she will be getting TOMORROW) - is to return the entire purchase, refund the shopper's card "which will take up to ten days to be refunded to you" and then re-ring the transaction. Shopper is obviously mystified and not satisfied and leaves at that point. MY GOD, WOMAN. Have you ever heard of a VOID? You cancel the whole transaction and start over. It's easy! I've been in retail forever and the void is your friend in this moment. NOT ONLY DOES TERESA NOT UNDERSTAND THE VALUE OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM, SHE IS ACTIVELY DISCOURAGING A BRAND NEW CLIENT FROM APPRECIATING PETCO's CLIENT "THANK-YOU" PROGRAM. I went in for my pets first grooming and was nervous, but my pup badly needed a cut and everywhere else in Santa Fe was booked out by 3 months! I took a chance and I couldn't be more happy. Candace cut my pups hair and I hope whoever reads these things at Petco gives her a raise ASAP! She could start her own grooming business with those skills. My puppy has received so many compliments today! Candace also helped me find two brushes to help keep my dog's coat maintained in between haircuts. I was hesitant to bring my dog here for grooming after reading the previous reviews. I now can't believe how harsh some of these reviews were after experiencing it for myself! Both of the ladies I interacted with during the process were friendly and polite. I have a large chihuahua mix who tends to be hesitant of new people, and when I came back a little early to watch the end of the grooming he was doing great! The lady working on my boy was gentle and kind. All of the requested services were completed and I am very happy with the results! Clean teeth and ears, trimmed nails, with a soft and shiny coat. Thank you, Petco! Also, the one star review about the toys being overpriced is just RIDICULOUS! This is a chain, not a discount store. They don't set the prices?! Unfortunately, their grooming staff has been replaced. We used to get our dogs groomed there but have had two bad experiences. First we had one dog go to get her nails trimmed and they did not do it correctly. Today we had our older dog there for grooming and a cut. Instead, they bathed her, did not follow directions, did not do her nails, did not cut her hair in the manner we wanted. So I got stuck with a bill. Spoke with Chase who gave us a 30 percent discount. So we got 30 percent off on a something we did not want. That sucks. Won't be returning to use their grooming services anymore. Why pay for something you don't want. What a shame, they used to be good. read more

I just can't buy my supplies here any longer. Seeing the betta fish in tiny Tupperwares with 8oz of water stacked in shelves is heartbreaking. It's the lowest denominator for an animals life. Talked to staff, "I don't know, it's just the way it is." Not ok. Not a love of animals' well-being. Just a big box store. This store has struggled in the past, but they're really picking up their game. I'm so happy it's geographically close to me. I have three pets (2 dogs and a cat) and this Petco store makes pet owning a real pleasure. The store is always clean and well lit, and the employees are friendly, helpful, and professional. They always stock everything I need, and the grooming salon is very good. I'm happy to say I can recommend this store whole-heartedly! I tried three times to leave this review on the Petco website but was told that it didn't meet their online rules. I guess they only publish the good reviews and the concept of free speech is beyond them. I was charged $80 per dog for a bath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A ridiculously overpriced experience. $80 per dog for a bath with shampoo that encourages molting and a brush out!!!!! NO GROOMING at all because my dogs have double coats. $160 for 2 clean dogs. I'll do it at home thank you. In addition, the website says that baths start at around $30. I understand the small additional charge for the "special" shampoo but how do you then add a "materials charge" ON TOP of that and then somehow justify $80 total per dog? Daylight robbery. NEVER going there again. I was a member who spent over a hundered dollars a month in that store and they just lost my money by charging an unjustifiable fee and refusing to publish my review to their website. I go in for fish. It's my main thing. Any pet store can stock some basic dog food and cat toys, who cares. The fish are one of the circumstances where you have to build an entire ecosystem for them to thrive. This used to be my go to shop. Beautiful display tanks, great fish keeper. Now it's easily the ugliest thing I've seen since Walmart's fish isle. They went from top tier to don't stop here. There's no care involved. Generic tanks with no substrate or plants and some doof who some how got hired for customer service and fish care despite the fact it seems like he has none of those skills. When I asked about this all I got was a non-answer. So I found an ex employee and asked why all of the cool folks that made the experience great were gone. I don't know much but what I've learned the animals manager Rene is racist, and rude enough to get great people to leave. Poop on you petco, do better. read more

Do not buy any animals here unless u are looking for something to stuff. The birds are so ill they may as well be dead. I saw two Cocktails who were sitting puffed out on the floor of the enclosure. If you are not a bird person this is the equivalent of a human sprawled out on the floor unable to stand gasping for air. If they were my birds I would be speeding them to an emergency vet. Would be shocked if they survived the week. When I alerted an employee she was not familiar with birds but was very concerned and got her manager. I do not blame the employees as this is a job and I'm sure they are just trying to make ends meat but her manager dismissed me and was not at all concerned. Her manager told me they just came in so they were probably just stressed. That made me even more concerned and infuriated as a bird in a new environment should be hyperactive exploring their environment. Their only enrichment was seed and plastic which will likely cause an impaction or fatty liver. They were also selling a 5in Blue iguana. Because I'm sure they wouldn't tell a perspective buyer, blue iguanas are expert level reptiles that get to be 5-6ft snout to tail and will probably send you to the ER with their razor sharp tail or claws. DO NOT GET ANIMALS FROM HERE and please don't give a company that doesn't give a shit about their animals any of your money. read more

Their dog toys & treats are way too expensive, there is minimal staff to help you, the store always looks disorganized and dirty. Everytime I look at the reptiles and ferrets, they look very uncared for and unhealthy.I have a Petco rewards card, but have never seen any discount worthy of it being called a "rewards card" This must be the dregs of all Petco stores in America! read more

Poor attention to detail. Staff incorrectly logged in our appointment time so we were late and out of luck. Additionally, the Staff did not log us into their system correctly because they assumed we were new customers and would have refused us do to not having vaccination papers in hand... When in reality we were repeat customers... Lastly they said our canine was a "biter," when in fact he had received services there twice before in a very calm fashion. Over all, very disappointed with this establishment. Will not be returning. By the way, Petsmart takes walk ins with little to no waiting... A better choice by far! read more

I like the store in general and buy most of my supplies here. The 1 star is for the GROOMING department! I brought my dog in at 12:30pm on a Saturday and they called me at 2:30pm to tell me she was in the crate and would not come out and it was possibly due to the stress level and high number of dogs in the grooming area. So I went to pick her up after 2 hours of my sweet dog being kept in a crate with no bath. In addition, the women who run the grooming department were extremely unpleasant. I should have listened to my gut instinct when I first went in and should have left with my dog right away. Never Again! read more

The only reason I give them 2 stars is because Heather did a good job with my 80 lb standard poodle. The problem is Kendra!!! I took my 45lb standard to Petco first. Kendra told me the "main " groomer was out on family leave.....that is all she said. When I came back to check on my dog after 3/hrs she told me it would be at least another 3/hrs. WHAT! She then informed me she had little experience with poodles and had tried to call before the appt ro tell me Heather would NOT be there. REALLY???? Why didn,t she say that when I arrived? She did a terrible job? Shaved off the top knot and didn,t touch the ears.The dog,s fur was sticky as if the shampoo was not completely washed out. I had given her an additional 2 hours!!! The assistant manager took one look and told the cashier to charge $23.00. That ticked off Kendra! She had the nerve to call me at home to say next time I came in....I would have to sign a paper stating it could take 5-6 hrs for a groom per Heather! I hung the phone up in her ear and called the manager the next day with a complaint. He was very nice and said he would talk to Kendra! I hope he did.....but I am taking my business elsewhere! read more

The positive is the store itself: they carry a lot of the stuff I need at competitive prices and I appreciate that they have a cat adoption area from Felines and Friends (I got my youngest cat there). Great. I'm negatively rating the grooming area, at least for cats. I brought my little ragdoll cat in because she'd developed mats that couldn't confortably be combed out. I asked if I could stay and watch and they basically said "no", since they wouldn't get to her right away, even though I'd made an appointment. So, I called now and then to see if they were done. 2 hours later, she was done. Yes, the mats were out and they'd put a rather ludicrous bow on her, considering her mood. She and her carrier were on top of one with a dog in it. She appeared to be in shock. I'd say, these people don't understand that cat psychology is different than dogs. I won't bring her back, I'll bring her to her vet. read more

After a years absence to the groomers I call for an appt and am told repeatedly that I am not in the system. I still want an appt. and get one for the following week. This morning when I get there for a scheduled appointment I again am told THAT I AM NOT IN THE SYSTEM. And now a rabies shot is apparently not enough for a bath. Who knew...No effort made to rectify or reschedule, just not very interested overall, I'd hate to see how our pets are treated. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I am not sure that "one star" is appropriate as my visit was a complete bust and I was not able to get my dogs groomed. My wife brought our dogs here 6 weeks ago for baths and grooming. It went ok so she agreed to schedule them for grooming today. So, I go to Petco and after cooling my heels about 7 - 8 minutes in the grooming area, I called Petco (yes, I called Petco from Petco because no one seemed to be assigned to the grooming area). After what seemed like a couple minutes of the phone ringing, a female answers and tells me that she is visiting with a customer in the parking lot and will be right in. She finally wonders in and then asked me the names of our dogs. She then tells me that we had "pre-booked" in a tone that firmly indicated that I was at fault for what was to happen next. You see, since we had the unforgiveable gall to "pre-book" an appointment, they were not able to groom our dogs today because the groomer was not in; she was ill. The tone of here voice clearly indicated that this was our fault because of .... (fill in the blank because whatever she said was complete nonsense). She offered to put our name on a "list" so that if we called for another appointment (presumably a "real" appointment and not a "pre-booked" appointment that we would be given priority (as long as we properly guessed when the groomer would be back at work). So, now we have to manage their schedule and ours! Lovely. I needed a second job since I work only 50 - 60 hours a week and took time off in the middle of the day to be informed that we upset their scheduling by "pre-booking" at their request at our last visit. No apologies for the inconvenience and no real help in getting my dogs groomed, just a reminder of how businesses are run by non-owner employees who are not vested in the outcome of their efforts. This female and her manager will not realize any loss from this abysmal effort at customer service or, actually customer disservice. No one even tried to call us to let us know that our "pre-booked" appointment was not going to be honored. Not caring and not communicating is not an efficient characteristic of customer service nor is it an appropriate method of using the company's resources. It's just simply a hallmark of a lack of respect. read more

My Husband and I stopped in to find a small pet carrier. We were "greeted" almost immediately after walking in. The woman noticed us looking at the small carriers by the front entrance and immediately ushered us to some larger pet carriers, which I explained are too big for our animal. Not to mention the ones we originally looked at were in the $20-$30 range. The ones she showed us were well into the $60+ range. We went back to check out the ones we originally saw. I had it in my hand, inspecting it to see if this was going to be the right carrier. She was in a hurry to get us to the register to pay for it. I would have liked to browse the store more and maybe pick up some more goodies for our other pets. She made me feel uncomfortable, like she was watching every move we made and wanted to make sure we paid for the carrier. I in no way, shape or form looked suspicious or anything of that sort. Don't they have security cameras to monitor theft?! Apparently she thinks she's loss prevention too. She was pushy about signing us up for pals rewards. Which I refused since I will not be returning! Also the Ferrets habitat looked unhealthy for them to be in. there were feces all over their water and food dishes. We will continue to frequent our favorite pet store in town which is Jurassic Pets. I understand perhaps Petco staff is trained to up sell, to be helpful and vigilant. But this made me feel damn near stalked by this woman. I like my space when shopping. Never again Petco!!! read more
