These folks are AMAZING! Holistic. Dont believe in kennels. My pup went in for a "play date" to see if he was a good fit. And it went great. The following week, he was groomed and he got to hang out with all the other dogs in between the steps of his groom. Two days ago I took my little dog to Turquoise Tails for grooming. I specifically requested he be only slightly clipped because we wanted his hair long as it should be. They called me to say he had been clipped substantially as he was matted and that the groomer "picked up the wrong clippers and made a mistake." 1. This good natured happy dog was literally shaved on his neck and stomach, so that the pink skin is bare 2. On his right side he has at least 12 places where the clippers badly knicked his skin so that blood was showing, and required an antiseptic and Antiseptic ointments. 3. The left side is clipped very short ( like a marine buzz cut) 4. The dog has clearly been traumatized. Periodically he starts shivering uncontrollably. He either will not leave my side, or sleeps on my pillow. He has no energy or interested in anything. read more

Please.. Please do not take your dogs to this place! In the early summer time I couldn't get my dogs into their regular Petco groomer they were very booked up so I took them to Turquiose trails. What a horrible mistake!!! When I picked them up it was clear the haircuts were horrible. I just couldn't believe how awful They looked and wondered what had happened? They just got groomed today and now I know the extent of what happened to them that day back in June. It is now clear that they were traumatized by Turquoise Tails. It wasn't just a very bad haircut but a damaging, hurtful experience. I know this now because they have returned to their past groomers and displayed way out fearful and problematic behavior that wasn't present before this!!! Now my dogs are traumatized. Most horrible experience today. Was a regular but after they treated me and my ailing old sick hound horribly, never going back.. Main guy their was down one guy he told me but took my pup and handed her off to two that don't normally do nails. They were not doing well and pup got upset. I looked at guy and his response was if your going to give me dirty looks, take your dog. I was concerned about dog and thought the main guy was going to take care of her. Nicki the owner told me that one of her groomers was drinking on the job. I asked her if she was going to fire him and she said no. That was it for me. I will never subject my dogs to such abuse. I picked up my employers dog at Turquoise Tails for the first time and was shocked to see how aggressively one of the groomers was treating another little dog. The dog was yelping and trying to get away from the groomer who was being very rough. I was so concerned that my gasps were audible and the owner came out to the grooming area and basically defended the grooming abuse by her employee. If a dog has a lot of anxiety about being groomed then that dog should be with a kind and patient groomer, who is skilled and not one who is trying to force the dog through the grooming process. She was yanking on her ears and pushing her around in a very rough way. I felt horrible for this little dog. I suggest that all of you dog owners watch your dog being groomed so you can actually see how your dog is being treated. Don't assume that just because your dog is happy to see you after being groomed that your dog was treated well. Your dog is just relieved to get out of a horrifying experience. read more

I've been to Turqoise Tails twice and was very impressed with the service. I decided, as was suggested by the groomer, to have my two dogs bathed and nails clipped. I dropped them off and everything was fine. They told me to come back in two hours to pick them up. I was 15 minutes early. I was met in the parking lot by a woman who told me I was too early to pick up my dogs. I told her they told me to come back in two hours. She said that it takes at least 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I would have been fine with that if that is what I was told when I dropped them off. I turned around and started walking back to my vehicle. A young man called for me and yelled that the reason I couldn't come in was because he had a sharp object by my dogs eyes and it was dangerous because now he knows I am there and it will take a lot longer for them to get done. I went back to my vehicle without saying a word and sat there for a minute and thought about what just occurred. First, I have never been to a groomer who refused to let you in when they are grooming your dogs. That's a big red flag. Second, I was a little upset that I was told to come back but was willing to shrug it off. Third, I'm not sure why he would have had a sharp object by my dogs eyes. They were not getting clipped. I went inside and demanded my dogs. I didn't care if they were finished or not. I should not have been yelled at for coming by to pick up my dogs. There was no reason for that young man to do what he did. He was out of line. Then he called me a crazy bitch. The owner chimmed in as well. I am still extremely upset over the whole ordeal. None of it was necessary. I was willing to walk away and come back in another hour even though it was not convenient. But for someone to come out and start yelling at me for really no reason, was out of line and abusive. Not someone I want to bring my dogs back to that's for sure. read more

I am a travel nurse, working here in Santa Fe. I have found out that it is difficult to get your pets groomed anywhere that seems reputable. However, after reaching out to several places, Turquoise Tails called to schedule an appointment. She was elated to tell me that they had an opening for the next day due to a cancellation. I explained that I work early and long hours at the hospital. So, the next day wouldn't work. Without hesitation, she rudely told me that new clients would need to have flexible schedules and was sorry that it wouldn't work. I politely asked if she was not willing to help me find another day and again she was rude. I cannot speak to their grooming services, but the customer service was horrendous. I have since taken my pups to Petsmart, as they were overly accommodating and helpful. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere if you have to work for a living. read more

I'm scared to give even more kudos to Turquoise Tails because it's already a huge waiting line to get in... and entirely worth it. Maximus is a beautiful purebred Scottish Terrier who often got mistaken for a mutt because of his wiry hair. I thought he could never look like a real Scottie. When I walked into the store and he came bounding out, I almost fell over - he looked like Jock from Lady & The Tramp. In 3 years of grooming, this is by far the best haircut Max has ever had. The customer service here is also fantastic. The staff take extra time with every pet to make sure they look fantastic. The owner told me, "I saw Max and I thought, 'I know there is a Scottie in there... though it's pretty hard to see right now'." She said that she went over him three times to make sure he was perfect, and it showed. Given their month-plus wait times, I asked if they would be expanding. They wisely told me that expansion isn't always good and that their first priority is *quality*. I wish more businesses in Santa Fe would follow that philosophy. We took our Shih tzu to Turquoise Tails yesterday (2/2/2022) and the last 2 times we had a good experience with her grooming. Unfortunately yesterday the groomer cut her long eyelashes even though we specifically told them not to. When we arrived to pick her up (after being told over the phone she was ready) she was not ready, we were asked to wait an additional 20 minutes which was no problem. But when they handed her to us we immediately noticed that one eyelash was much shorter than the other. At no point did the staff or groomer mention the mishap with her eyelash. When we pointed it out to the scheduler she immediately called one of the groomers and started referring to my dog with a different name. I corrected her because I could see she was overwhelmed with phones and our concerns. A groomer walked over took a look at our dog and claimed she probably was moving too much. My dog has been groomed since she was a puppy and has been groomed by this business prior and this has never been an issue. When I asked why only one eyelash was cut and the other not evened out, he couldn't answer. In order for my dog to not look so uneven we had to cut the other eyelash to even her out. Now the receptionist did offer $20 off the entire price, which was ok but at no point did the actual groomer who worked on my dog apologize or care to check in. At that the groomer who claimed it was my dogs fault, was not the one who actually groomed her. That individual did not come up to see what was wrong or why we stood there asking what happened. I would have been ok even though this was clearly a mistake which can happen but the owner's attitude today made it worse. We contacted the owner today basically she said, what do you want, your money back, continue with the appts or go somewhere else. But at no point placed any blame on her staff person, said it happens, seemed very unconcerned about the situation. It's not about the money it is the quality of service. We were very happy the 2 times prior but when your dog has only one eyelash cut drastically shorter than the other after that was a specific request not to be done and then no one owns up to it, that is frustrating. We are trusting your business to take care of our fur babies and to blame it on the dog but not tell the customer, is not ok. I don't feel that we were in the wrong to complain. read more

My first time visiting Turquoise Tails, I spent time speaking with Nicki. It was decided that my dog needed to come in twice in a week, once for a bath and the second time for grooming. I agreed and paid two full price services. Nicki had planned to groom my dog, but didn't show up. The third and final visit gave me shockwaves. I brought my dog in and he was greeted, whereas I was not. The new staff member asked me to bring a cash payment because their checking machine was malfunctioning. I had no problem going to the bank for the cash. Then, when I returned I was greeted with a verbal attack from Kelly, the office staff. She snarled about my husband being very rude to the new staff member. I don't know why my husband received a call when my number was available. Neither of the staff would tell me what my husband had said. Kelly wasn't on the call, so I'm sure she had no idea. She decided that she no longer would allow me to return to their shop. The rudeness and lack of professional courtesy from this woman would have kept me from ever going there again. I did hand her the cash, along with a $20 tip for the groomer. Later, when I got home, I noticed that my double-coated sheltie no longer had his long, flowing side coat. Instead, the coat was blunt cut. I had specifically asked to leave his outer coat natural. Sorry I left the tip. But I clearly would not leave my dog in the vicinity of this ill-tempered woman. You might want to think twice before booking. read more

This review is not meant to bash anybody but just to inform and educate. My little shih tzu who has cancer nearly lost her life this past weekend trying to fight a rare tick disease she most likely picked up at turquoise tails. I have been bringing my 3 shitzus here faithfully every 8 weeks for 3 years. My dogs immune system is already compromised because she is on chemo therapy so I was worried about even bringing her around other dogs. I spoke with Nikki the owner and she made me feel comfortable about bringing Lola bear in. After I picked up my dogs from their appointment we got in the car and I had Lola on my lap, checking her to make sure she was ok. This is when I saw a tick crawling fast underneath her fur and I then grabbed it and threw it out the window. My dogs have never had ticks, we keep them away from parks, ect so I had no clue it was a tick at the time. Later that week Lola had a fever, the shakes and was lethargic. We took her to the emergency vet where she tested positive for Anaplasmosis. This is a very rare parasite that can only come from other animals. This is the only place Lola had been since being sick and after pulling a tick off of her I put two and two together. Lola spent two nights in icu and is still struggling to fight for her life. She has to be off of chemo while being on this antibiotic which may make her cancer worse. We spent $3,000 over the weekend on tests and overnight stays in icu. Needless to say we won't ever be back to turqouise tails. My other dogs have also been showing signs of this infection and we are in the process of getting them tested. I urge you if you have an animal that has cancer or a low immune system that you just have a groomer go to your house instead. I take half the blame for taking my baby around other dogs but I trusted that Nikki would be careful and she wasn't. We spoke with the owner about this and she admitted that dogs go in with ticks and lice. This is more dangerous than some think so please be aware. read more

My 2 shitzus have been going to this groomer since their first haircut and clipping. I donated to turquoise tails during covid to help keep them open. The last time my dogs were groomed at turquoise tails they cut one of my dogs. Things happen. It wasn't terrible, but when an employees child tried to kick one of my dogs and my daughter had to pick him up to protect him, that was it never going. The owner brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal. Then we told her that we weren't going to be back. No apology, ungrateful for our patronage. I literally got chewed out by the people there for not booking my appointment sooner (well he wouldn't have needed an appointment so soon if they had done a better job 7 weeks ago, when they didn't even do his toenails.) I really wanted to like this place because they got dissed on Nextdoor, but not worth the price, attitude, or hassle. They are also expensive $50 more than another groomer I've used. It scares me that they treat dogs poorly and it must be hard keeping help. but. I took my 11.5yo Senior rescue dog in late September for a grooming - booked three weeks out. I'm pretty sure they didn't do his nails and legs/body but did a nice job around the face and a bath. So, I paid $140 for them for a bath and face clean up. Fast forward to today when I called for an appointment knowing it could be a few weeks out and got a phone full of grief from the person on the phone literally berated me that I should have booked two months ago.* Well, they are expensive and didn't do a great job, but I wanted to give them a second chance. OH HELL NO. The person who berated me on the phone kept sending me threatening emails saying they knew all the other groomers in town and would blacklist me for posting a review of my experience being yelled at for trying to book an apt with them on Yelp. Yes, they threatened me, did a bad groom on my dog and then I got an email from the owner saying they wanted an opportunity to fix the situation OH, HELL NO. Clearly there is a shortage of good, moderately priced dog groomers in town, but I'm willing to pay for a good cut/groom but never again at Turquoise Tails. *I may have booked two months in advance but they don't have anything but a handwritten appt. book (not an electronic system they can search,) so who knows.... read more

We recently moved to Santa Fe from California. I never expected to find a groomer here who was as good as the one we had there. After taking our dogs to another grooming place a couple of times where the quality of the work was very poor, I feel so lucky to have found Nikki. She's a world class dog groomer. I like that instead of bringing your dog(s) in first thing in the morning and having them stay most of the day, she staggers her appointments so that the time you bring them in is pretty much when the grooming process starts and your dog is ready to go home much sooner. And it's amazing how much she accomplishes in so little time. And the bows!!! Our big, fluffy mutt wears pigtails and the bows she gets are just awesome. Best yet, they stay put from grooming to grooming. I also like that when I go pick them up, all three of my dogs are running loose in the secured grooming area of the shop. They seem so much less stressed out than when they've been sitting in cages. Additionally, the place is very clean and neat. My double coated dog was shaved under hi tail! You never take a shaver to a double coated dog! My other dog got her anal area injured I assume with a wire brush that must have been used on her carelessly and roughly (this was the vets conclusion as well) and he put her on pain pills/antibiotics to treat the resulting inflammation. I understand that the grooming process is very complex, but taking almost four hours to get my dog groomed is a little ridiculous. I was very rudely handed over my dog and not even spoken to about the grooming at the time of pick up, which I found very odd. Even asking for a receipt was a very big inconvenience to them, apparently. The attitude that was in the shop made it for a very uncomfortable environment as a customer. I never write yelp reviews(being in the restaurant industry I'm usually against it) but I recently got a puppy and was nervous it might not go well. They told me it might take 3 hours and it was done in less than two. My pup was so happy and has smelled great/fur felt so soft for almost a week(she even went to the beach and still smells good.) they trimmed all her nails with no problem and gave her a Halloween bandana and bow on her harness.
