We went into this location Saturday to purchase a turtle for my grandsons birthday. We stopped in just 2 hours before his party so we could go straight to the party with his gift. The manager Letty showed us where the turtles were, and we picked out the one we wanted. Letty started to go over everything the turtle needed and we told her that we were going to purchase a 10 gallon tank and take it to the party and after the party my grandson and his mom (our daughter) would take him to pick out everything the turtle needed. We were going to purchase the turtle, the tank, and food for the turtle to start. Letty told us that we needed to buy a 40-gallon tank for the turtle, and she wanted us to buy the rocks and filter before we left the store. I told her we were going to let my grandson pick out everything he wanted after the party. Besides, I didn't see the point of buying such a huge tank for a small 5-inch turtle. Letty came across as very sarcastic and argumentative and seemed upset she couldn't Up-sell more items. She actually told us she didn't feel comfortable selling us the turtle if we didn't buy everything she said to buy. I have never been anywhere that they would tell you what you needed to buy and didn't give you the option to purchase what you want. Every time we tried to explain how we were going to do things, she kept interrupting us.I finally asked her to tell me straight up if she would sell us the turtle or not, and she said no. I couldn't believe she would do that knowing our grandsons birthday was just 2 hours away. Petco really let my grandson down and left a horrible taste on my mouth. I never knew they would allow an employee to dictate what you purchased, and they would give that employee the authority to not sell something to a customer. We are not kids. We are senior citizens who know how to handle a turtle and provide for that turtle. We didn't deserve to be treated like children. We actually felt we were racially profiled. I don't even know where to start. I came for two specific things and the lady checking us in, which by the way you couldn't even understand what she was saying, forgot to add one of them. The microchip! Which I needed before our trip. My dog is a big boy so they had to put a muzzle on him, he was all scared and anxious and they didn't put the microchip so when they tried again after he was already traumatized of course he wouldn't let them put it on. The cashier had zero customer service. The lady checking in was not helpful at all. I will say the 3 ladies tending to the dog were nice and really tried to keep my dog calm, and it wasn't their fault the other one forgot to list the microchip but I will definitely not be coming back. read more

Karissa has done a great job with my weirdo terrier mix twice now. He looks good, she remembers him even though I'm sure she see a lot of dogs, and I love the feedback on what a brave boy he is. I feel at ease knowing that and my doggo seems to feel safe! I was in a bit of a rush during our last appt and she had him ready the minute she said she would! She kept me posted even though she was very busy. I've seen her with other customers too and you can tell she's skilled at connecting with both pet and owner - really listens to both of us if that makes sense . If anyone gripes about grooming, just go to Karissa. Problem solved. 4 stars is bc the price is bonkers in my opinion. $90 for a wash, trim, nail buffing on a barely medium length dog that is 30 lbs. I know that a corporate issue but I'd like to be able to tip more if prices were lower. read more

The dog grooming check in process is flawed. I had made a reservation for a groom 2 weeks in advance, emailed all necessary dog shot records. Upon arrival, the dog would not be accepted because they state they did not receive a portion of the records. Time wasted on a Saturday, my vet was gone for the day and could not be contacted to provide. A courtesy call to advise some of the shots have not been verified would have been nice. read more

I've had several dogs that used petco grooming services on a regular basis in the past. Lilith and her brother, Lucifer, have been receiving monthly baths at this and another location closer to my home. Her brother died last year of cancer, so it's just her now. On this occasion, we brought her to the Petco Austin Hwy groomer because my husband had an appointment close by. We figured we'd kill two birds with one stone; that was not the case. We were told her bath would take about 2-3 hours. When we dropped her off, we warned the technician that my dog is cautious about her paws being touched (nails clipped/filed or hair trimmed between her toes), Sometimes she let's them file or clip her nails, but not too often. About an hour in, I received a phone call from a rude woman who demanded that I immediately pick up my dog because she was being "aggressive." I don't know what happened or why my dog acted the way she did, but she was terrified! I told the lady I understood the dilemma, but I didn't have an immediate mode of transportation because I took my husband, a disabled veteran, to his VA appointment after dropping off my dog. The woman truly expected me to drop what I was doing and go get my dog, who was, by the way, still damped. This lady threatened to ban my dog from future services if I didn't pick up my dog right away. I politely asked her to put my dog under a dryer or something because even if I could pick up my dog right away, I didn't want my dog to be wet. She didn't care, so I hung up on her because I felt like I was talking to a wall. Then, a nicer gentleman called me a few minutes later and left a detailed message of my dog's behavior, and apologized. He said we wouldn't get charged, which we didn't. The restrooms are closed and customers can't even wash their hands. Especially in times of the Covid-19 virus the restrooms should be open to customers. 5 stars for staff alone. Though the stocking could be a bit more consistent, everything else is top notch. I was walked through brands and recommendations for what to try with my foster kittens weaning onto wet food by a very helpful staff member who also educated me they will refund for wet food your cat won't eat so long as you have the receipt! 2nd visit to fill up on some wet food, we got caught in the freak hail storm that hit hard. Towels were given to a mother and son who got Soaked in the downpour. 3rd visit I was helped by the same staff member who turned out to be a manager gave me a discount so I could afford some Extra stuff for the foster kittens I'm housing out of pocket on a single moms income. Honestly unless the manager left and everyone else turned bitter, I'd bother to come here first unless I just couldn't find what I needed. read more

The WORST ordering and delivery service I've ever had by far!! I ordered my dog's gifts in full, spent forever shopping for them, just for someone to drop off two toys out of 20, with no receipt or anything! I reached out to the company and had a RUDE outsourced employee snapping and all but I dealt with it, being that I was missing $65 in refunds. Then she says that someone will be there before the night with our order and they never come, only to refund me again & again & again. Needless to say, I got one bag with two small toys and a toy box is coming in the mail, and now I don't need that because there isn't a need for it!!!!!!! This was, by far, the worst grooming job ever done on my little Schnauzer. I did not expect greatness as we live in the country with burrs and dead grass, and I asked for him to be cut shorter than normal to reduce the matting and tangles. But I did not expect the chop job and poor shave-down he was given. He was not bathed, some toenails were trimmed, not all. His bangs are choppy and uneven. He was the only dog in the shop so there was no wait. She started on him with clippers immediately, which shocked me. I've worked in a grooming shop and this was not normal procedure. A dog is always roughed out and bathed before clippers. I dropped my dog off at 1:15p and she didn't call for pick up until 3:44p. I don't understand why he was made to wait in a cage for so long before I was notified. When I picked him up, I was asked if I'd "like to give Chelsea a tip...." I hadn't even been allowed to see my dog to see what kind of job she did. Never again will I tip a groomer before seeing my dog. But honestly, I don't understand why an employee of a major retail corporation like Petco needs a tip at all. Hitting the customer at register to tip is just classless. read more

I've been going to Austin Highway's Petco ever since it opened. I use to love going here. I use to go here almost every other week to get my puppy food but every experience since getting my puppy has been bad. This morning they did not seem to care to ask if I needed help, but were more intrigued in talking amongst themselves. I was not greeted at the door, and when I had finished my shopping and decided go to the register I had to wait for the workers at the register to stop talking to even be greeted. Now, not all the workers here are like that. But these ladies this morning were disappointing. I'm not going to waste my money at this Petco again. Horrible customer service. read more

Very similar to the review above, I had a terrible terrible experience with the grooming team at this Petco. I rescued an italian greyhound / terrier mix and two days later took him to this groomer. When dropping off our dog, we let the staff know he was adopted two days previous. When picking him up, the head groomer came out to yell at me for not taking care of my dog. She humiliated me in front of other employees and customers. When we explained that we adopted the dog just two days prior, she went on to say well we were not feeding him the right food. This was not a vet, this was a groomer who did not look at our file and was bitter and hostile. Instead of having a conversation, she accused and embarrassed me. She never apologized. I spoke with one store manager about the incident and she was empathetic, however the general manager could have not cared less. Do not go to the groomers here, unless they get a new manager. I have been taking my 13 year old Maltipoo to Petco on 281/TPC Parkway for the past several years and have always left more than satisfied. This time however has left me wanting to find somewhere else to take my dog. My appointment was at 10:00 AM. I arrived at 10:06 and waited in line until 10:15 behind another customer. When I got to the counter the girl said that next time I am 15 minutes late she will have to cancel my appointment. What?! I stood there for several minutes waiting. Later I got a text that my dog had matted ears. Yes, she gets mats in her ears and normally they brush them out beautifully and it's no issue. I went in between appointments the same amount of time I always do. This time, they charged me an extra $14.00 to de-mat her ears. When I saw her I was shocked. It would have not been an issue had she brushed them out for $14. All they did was cut them off! Or should I say "chop" them off. I could have done a better job. They look terrible! I am so disappointed! I got the basic package and after tip, my bill was over $90! I am not normally one to complain, but the customer service/grooming service was unacceptable. :( read more

The groomers don't seem to have much affection towards dogs. The way she handled my small dog with their blue leashes was terrifying, my dog was obviously uncomfortable and was choking her. They then proceeded to try to over charge me for services I didn't even need. All I asked for was a bath, nail trim, and ear clean.. she tried to persuade me that I needed to pay an additional $23 because my dogs nails needed to be "buffed" and not "trimmed".. Girl my dog hasn't had her nails trimmed in over 6 months, I couldn't believe what she was trying to sell me, sorry I'm not stupid. When I went to go pick her up, mind you I was there early waiting for her, I heard her barking and asked if it was my dog that was, she said "she's been barking this whole time". I didn't understand why she was spending so much time in the kennel, I was early and ready for her! All in all, I will never take my dog to get groomed here again. My daughter wants a hamster or mouse or other furry rodent, so we came to PetCo to buy one, just after 9am. She was very excited, naturally. We were the only people in the entire store, with the exception of two employees, one cleaning a ferret cage, and one spritzing down the lizards. I was mildly annoyed that they had all of their supplies strewn about in the section we needed, but decided to be polite and roam around the store for a bit to give them time to finish. Thirty minutes later, when it appeared as though they had been making no progress, simply chit-chatting, I finally decided just to go look at the critters amidst the clutter. As we approached the cage of mice (which was furthest from the ferret cage) the girl cleaning the ferrets says 'Uh, this section is closed.' No apology, no mention of when she would be finished, just a statement with an undertone of our inconvenience to her, having interrupted her conversation and all. So we left. Clean the cages before you open, maybe? Or clean them faster.... or be willing to pause when customers come around... or mark off the section as closed so your rude employees don't get bothered by customers... or, at a minimum, apologize for the closed section and give an estimate of when it will re-open. We came in to purchase a pet (and likely ALL of the supplies that go with it) but left disappointed and unwilling to return. What a shame. read more

Super disappointed in the pet grooming experience I had at this location. I brought my 10 year old, 12 lb shihtzu-mix in for a routine bath and haircut. I requested they give him a trim, and the groomer, Rianna, pushed back several times on what I asked for saying she didn't recommend doing a cut since it's been "colder outside"... it's 70 degrees today keep in mind. I tell her I'd like it cut anyways and she finally agrees. I get a call about an hour after dropping him off saying they are stopping services on my dog per their policy because he was being uncooperative. Uncooperative to them was defined as sitting down, turning around, and overall being uncomfortable and nervous. They said they couldn't continue the cut but asked if I could come back tomorrow. In the past 10 years I have never ran into this issue once with my dog - he has been to other Petco locations before. They relayed they'd been super busy and seemed like they just didn't want to do their job. Very unprofessional and seems like they have some inexperienced groomers. Definitely won't be back to this location or any Petco for that matter after the poor experience I had. Don't waste your time here. read more
