A stripper at the local Petco!!

I saw a beautiful stripper dancer here, it was beautiful but super expensive. Until I realized the baby wasn't even a year old I can't believe they are hiring babies to dance on poles.

I've been taking my mini Goldendoodle to Petco for two years, and Andrea, the stylist, has usually done a great job. She mentioned that my dog is amazing but a little ticklish around her face. However, during our last visit, things took a turn for the worse. Andrea seemed frustrated and told me, "If Maple continues to behave the way she does, we won't be able to groom her here anymore." This came as a shock because she had never indicated there was a problem before, and suddenly, she hit me with this harsh statement. Now, I'm starting to wonder if she's just not a good fit as a stylist because my dog gets extremely anxious when we arrive at the grooming center. I'm trying a different stylist now and won't be going back to Andrea. I can't recommend her. In hindsight, I think she may have been the reason my dog started being anxious when going to the groomer.

This location recently opened so it's shiny and new! The location is perfect with other new shopping options in the area (or coming), plus, there is plenty of parking. Like any new store, they are working out their kinks. I went in there a few times after opening and it seemed nice enough, but the things I needed were out of stock and/or not stocked yet. Not a big deal since it is a new store. The employees were nice enough and they have a good variety of items overall for all types of furry, wet, slimy, etc. family members. They have competitive prices and even some unique items...like costumes for example. Today's story: This time, I placed an order on line and normally the receiving store is quick to respond. In this case, however, I called 3 hours after placing the order to get the scoop since I hadn't received the email to pick it up yet. The person I spoke to said they'd have it ready when I arrived, but he didn't take my name or the order number. Hmmm! When we got to the store they weren't busy, just cleaning...but they may have been busier earlier in the day. I gave them my info and they were friendly, very apologetic for the tardiness and were truly genuine. I'm sure they are trying to get their groove on and I always appreciate an apology instead of rose-coloring it...this goes a long way with me. I must give kudos to the online ordering option...it is a good deal. Some things you can get for 20% off just by ordering online and picking up in the store. But if you live at a distance like we do...it's all about timing and what else you have to do in the area to make it worth it. But it's definitely worth taking a look at, not to mention they do have the Pals Reward program as well.

Giving your dog a bath is never an easy task. At Petco they make it easier for you with "Self wash". For $15 you get shampoo, conditioner, a brush, towels and a good place with a hose and an dryer. Friendly staff and all you need for your mascot!

The entire team at Unleash Fido have been very helpful, professional and kind. I didn't see or feel much if any warmth or compassion in the way she treated my cat, Casper, or responded to me (especially when delivering some very disturbing news about my cat's eyesight). I would describe it as a coldness/aloofness and lack of friendliness that made me (and I think Casper) very uncomfortable. (Yes. He was very stressed contrary to what the doc and team observed.) The doctor very quickly diagnosed Casper as being blind or nearly blind based on a simple blink response test without any further diagnostics and/or questions? (E.g. Checking his retina with an opthalmosope and/or asking me how he's been navigating around the house today, etc.). FYI....This turned out to be false as verified later that day while observing his almond-shaped pupils and his ability to easily track my fingers, a laser pointer, etc. In addition, the vet at the UF Small Animal Hospital checked his eyes with a scope and his retina were fine. I asked for the doctor's assistance by having a phone consult with the UF Small Animal Hospital vet to better align on the pre-evaluation and testing required for Casper's I-131 Radio Iodine Treatment, including passing along my concerns and helping me get my questions answered. She was apparently unable or unwilling to do this for me and deferred to Casper's previous vet's office. I'm very sorry it turned out this way as I had high hopes for a different outcome.

This is a honest review from a recipient that received a service animal from this organization. I…read morepersonally feel it's important to reveal to the public this information especially after I have addressed my concerns regarding the substandard training of some of these service animals which were presented both in writing and verbally to the CEO of this organization. First, I want to say the intent of this organization to provide service animals to disabled veterans is commendable and noteworthy. I feel that every other aspect of this organization involving administrative practices, day to day operations, and the training program to house the incoming veterans to receive their service animal is spot on point and phenomenal. However, the main mission of this program is to provide highly trained service animals to veterans which is not being met either by Assistance Dog International (ADI)/ADA qualification criteria. I attest that the service dogs that were given to veterans during my stay were aggressive in nature which consisted of growling, lunging, attacking each other, and showing signs of unprovoked aggression. The dogs could not remain behaviorally stable in certain environments which caused more trauma and problems for the veteran especially during our stay on site as well as when we returned home with our service dog. I attended the Class of October 2021 along with 9 other women. Out of 10 women that received a service dog, 8 of those service dogs were returned because the aggressive behaviors and them being behaviorally unstable. Also, three or four of these women were repeats to K9 for Warriors class as their previous dogs were returned for reason for aggressive or unstable behaviors. These dogs would lunged, growled, and attack one another in a group setting especially while in the public, at restaurants, and on the training site. Most of the dogs were not trained to ignore distractions and behave poorly thereby causing several intense and sad moments where veterans broke down and cried due to frustration and not being able to handle the aggressive behaviors displayed by their dogs. Some even wanted to quit but the training instructor would talk them out of it saying to "trust the process" and help them momentarily to get pass focusing on the aggressive behavior by saying it will get better. More often than not, the class trainers would blamed the dog's behavior on us as we were told that the dogs were feeding off our anxiety and some classmates believed it, not knowing any better that the dogs just lacked proper training as service dog. As for my service dog, he started lunging, growling and barking at people at my apartment complex and I could not have anyone come over without him excessivley barking and charging to the door anytime someone knocked. Even after being provided two outside trainers to address my service dog's behavior, my dog still would excessively bark and would charge at guests, maintenance workers, and family when they entered the apartment and he even began to digress in acting aggressively toward people walking by or entering my complex. I finally had to come to a very hard decision to return my service dog to back to this organization or I could continue to be seek more training to deal with my dog's problems which would continue to add more anxiety and frustration to my life. I chose to return him especially after encountering him charging after a maintenance person. My dog was basically a good dog in general, but lacked avoiding distractions, displayed sporadic aggressive behavior, and was overly protective of me, all traits and manner not conducive of a service animal. Even though there has been a change of leadership in K9 For Warriors, there are still training issues that warrant an overhaul of the entire dog training program and to relook at the type of dogs they are given to veteran that show substandard behavior especially during the initial training class with the veteran. K9 for Warriors have to know that it's more than just getting the dogs to meet the requirement for the public access certification. These dogs must perform and function as a highly trained service that are not aggressive, can ignore distractions, and must be well manner at all times. Last month, I learned that another graduate in my state was experiencing similar issue with her dog which means this organization still have to work on training issues. I gave this organization a 2 stars because the mission of this organization is to provide highly trained to veterans which they are not living up to its own mission statement.

Our last session was at a park where we got to practice our new skills in a safe situation with a professional so that I felt in control and at ease practicing them in the "real world." Melissa really listened to what I wanted, what my dog needed, and tailored every session to what would work best for US - not following the same script and steps that everyone gets. I went in hesitant about the training methods but am now more educated than I anticipated; I know more about training, I know more about my dog, and I even know more about myself. It was also a lot of fun!! My dog and I both looked forward to our sessions and it helped us bond a lot.
