Walked in shortly before closing with the intention of purchasing a small plastic tank to keep on hand for our fish as needed but ended up walking out with a betta that we were trying to save because it did not look well. I mentioned to the cashier that we were trying to rescue him and that I was hoping he made it over night and she said they had just done a water change which was surprising given the fact that the cup was full of waste. I come to this Petco because it's closest to my house, and they have proprietary dog treats that they keep in a buffet type section that my dog really loves. She is a very picky puppy and doesn't like most treats, but she loves Petco proprietary treats. They were having a great sale today, they had their holiday dog clothes on sale For $7.99, normally $25. I got my dog a beautiful dress. I also got her a wonderful toy. The prices are good. As I said, in my last review, their shelves are not so good. They're always out of a lot of stuff. I raised my review one star because I got excellent customer service today from Mateo.. Okay so up front I don't have a pet. I do live vicariously through my girlfriend's three dogs, however. And I do truly love them. Often tooth disadvantage of my wallet. So my girlfriend drop me off here today with her newest puppy on a mission while she went to help with friend elsewhere. There was a rescue adoption event that day for Cuz I Matter, so there were a lot of new doggy friends to make. Unfortunately the mission I was set to accomplish turned out into a mission abort not of my own making. As a result, I wound up more or less stuck at the store with a puppy in a shopping cart for the better part of 2 hours. The puppy and I tried to make friends with every animal in there, but there are only so many times you can traverse all the aisles. I'll bet I tried every squeaker toy they had to offer. What struck me most about this Petco was the the staff. Every one of them wanted to meet the puppy and ask about it. I explained and they understood that I was stranded for a bit, so I just kept shopping. I wound up spending money I hadn't intended to for snack treats for the puppy and for a toy to keep her entertained while we waited. And the reason I did that was because I felt at ease and that the staff genuinely cared for me and my little charge. When my girlfriend came back later she also shopped and bought a large bag of dog food. None of what I experienced that day will make a difference to anyone but me, but it has totally changed my opinion of this Petco. read more

Do not recommend this location for its grooming services. We dropped off our dog after receiving 3 calls and a text and an email to confirm our appointment with each person reminding us that "the weather is cold and rainy", which gave us the impression they really wanted us to cancel. When my husband dropped off, the groomer In taking our pup asked if we had come for a bath and nails, but he also reminded that we wanted anal glands expressed to which she tried to say that wasn't included with the bath. Fortunately, a more experienced groomer was also there who intervened telling the first groomer that indeed, it was. She admonished the first groomer telling too, telling her she needed to learn how to do it. Upon pick-up, we were told that the groomer was unable to complete the expression because our dog nipped when she tried. We know this happened because of inexperience because our dog is usually fine with the right person performing the job. Overall, our experience was less than satisfactory and we won't be taking any of our three dogs to this Petco location for grooming again. read more

We just finished a 6 week puppy class for our Aussie pup. Ash did a great job working with our puppy and we are super happy with the results. At graduation, our Piper girl got a certificate, two toys and a whole bag of treats. Definitely money well spent. We plan on signing up for the adult dog fundamentals class next. read more

I literally only come here because I live so close. And I love taking my dog out of the house. Other than those two reasons I don't really see the point in coming. Cashiers try to convince you to join their monthly subscription that I personally do not see the point in. Also can't answer questions properly when it comes to vetco. All I asked is where do they meet you in this store and they went on a whole monologue about how they're not always there. Okay? I didn't ask that. I had an appointment I just wanted to know where to find them when I come in. Listen to the question please. It's unfortunate they don't have an actual facility here. My dog literally got his check up in the small pets aisle. So I honestly didn't trust anything they told me. Definitely not coming back for another check up. Also, check up is pretty worthless. Online they don't state what they do or what's it for. I just got my puppy so I figured he needed one. It's literally just to check if he's good to receive vaccines. That we didn't even end up getting. I knew Petco charged more for pet food. But I didn't know the difference was over $30! I was in shock to see I paid a little over $30 more for the same brand, same size of food that I get my dog here when it's way cheaper at Walmart. So not coming here for the food or for the vet. Not sure what is going on with this store but too many times they did not have wither the dog food or pet beds it mentioned they should have had on their website, a only 2 of many examples. I have started to drive to PetSmart in Round Rock. They always seem to be well stocked. Also, shopping online at Chewy.com. Also, when I happen to shop on Sunday during their 'puppy play time' it is kind of concerning that aggressive pups are allowed to join this very small area to play together. DO NOT BOOK BROOKLYN My dog was groomed today by brooklyn and when I dropped her off for an appointment I specifically told brooklyn not to cut off my dog's long ear hair, or anything off her face(she's a german shepard-she doesn't need it cut) brooklyn confirmed it repeated it back to me and said "I'll only trim her feet and leg hair" I'm called 4 HOURS LATER to pick her up and all of her ear hair was shaved down to about half an inch. Thank God the manager was able to refund me but the damage is already done and let this be a lesson to me to not book stupid groomers and I hope I can save another dog from being groomed by brooklyn! read more

I got the day off from work and wanted to take my baby Socks to get her nails trimmed and ears cleaned. I had never been to Petco before. Ricarda greeted me with a smile and salutation. She was very knowledgeable when I asked her advice on flea/tick medicine. I went in ala carte to pick what I needed done. She recommended one of the packages that was not only cheaper but got my dog got her nails buffed and her teeth brushed. She seemed to treat my dog like it was her own! Socks got her entire package done without a whimper! I highly recommend and will definitely be going back. read more

I bought two gerbils from this location, both adults. I was told when I bought them that they were both males, and that they would be perfect cage mates bc they had grown up together. Well, here I am a month later with 4 baby gerbils because they weren't in fact both males. She's pregnant again, already, because the babies were born a few days ago, and we didn't know they were there bc they burrowed them. This review is strictly for their grooming services. While I usually prefer Petsmart over Petco for my pet stuff, I do bring my cocker lab mix here for his grooming needs. His haircut is fairly simple...just a straight shave down. You'd be amazed how other places have messed this up--jagged edges, uneveness, but Petco has consistently done a great job and he looks like a completely different dog. This was the worst experience I have ever had when getting my sweet schnauzer groomed. The grooming staff were RUDE and unprofessional. PLEASE STAY AWAY if you need a schnauzer cut. I dropped my dog off with a full grown beard and skirt, and picked her up with everything (for the most part) shaved off completely. They blamed it on the last groomer and how uneven everything was. I did not get one phone call and they failed to mention it to me when I came in to check in on her. In fact, they were very agitated that I even came in to check up. What's even more heartbreaking is the fact that my dog walked out of there scared and timid. ***Please note that this is only a review of the grooming staff that handled my schnauzer. This place is a hot mess. My boyfriend and I signed up for training classes for our pug. It's a six week course that teaches basic commands and we're also supposed to learn how to correct different behaviors. Our classes started off well enough on the first go around. The second time, our trainer never showed up. Apparently there was a scheduling error, which is fine. No big deal, we live pretty close. So we reschedule and go to our second class. Petco teaches positive reinforcement, so any time our dog does a command correctly, he gets a treat. We warned our trainer that our pug can't have peanut butter. The second class, one of the treats had peanut butter. Even though the trainer himself said "no peanut butter, right?" like, five minutes before. Poor pug throws up later that night. Poor me has to clean it up at 2am. We verified with the trainer that we'd meet him later that week at our usual day and time. We both agree to this schedule. Does he show up? Nope. The extra star is to the manager Terry, who graciously gave us a refund. This trainer needs help...or a new job. Seriously, it's 11am, not 5am. If you can't wake up early enough to show up at 11am...look at your life, look at your choices. If anyone can recommend a good trainer in North Austin or Round Rock, send me a note! read more

We typically go to Petsmart but it was Sunday and they had already closed. We went to this location to pickup some litter and food for my kittens and decided to wander while we were there. So of course I stopped to see the ferrets and I was pretty upset. The cage was seemingly clean but both water bottles were off the hooks, the food was dried out and looked like it was molding over (I'm hopeful that it wasn't and it just looked that way) and the babies were sleeping in a dirty litter pan. I know ferrets are rambunctious little critters but the state of their pin was just saddening. Please try to, you know, actually care about animals if you work in a pet sore!!! Better note, the older woman that checked us out was lovely! We got pellet litter and she was knowledgeable enough to ask us if our kittens were used to it (they are) because most cats don't like change and she also helped the woman before us save some money on tanks. read more

Petco is a good place to get the necessities for your pet. They carry the Wellness Core food I need for my dogs, which isn't carried by the other major competitor in town. The staff is lacking in the service department. More than once the checker has spent time texting during our transaction. Lines have stacked up while the manager or other employees appear to be chatting it up in the office. If I didn't frequent this Petco on a regular basis, I would give them the benefit of the doubt, but it is pretty consistent. read more

Grooming lady was 7 minutes late to open the door. 8:07 for an 8:00 appointment. She was too lazy to brush my puppy and just seemed like she didn't want to do any work. She should be moved to an afternoon or later shift because she isn't a morning person. No customer service at all. We were in there for about 20 minutes and was never greeted or asked for assistance. I do not review chains very often, but this one requires a little updating. I was not impressed with the cleanliness of this store. The floors are very dirty and everything just felt very dusty. The treats station had stuff all over it and was not clean, I probably would not buy treats from there. Overall, I wouldn't go to this location, I would go to the Unleashed location on Gattis school. It's a pet store that my dog loves to go to. Enough said. I was never a proponent of buying their dog food brands like Natural Selection, etc. until I read the faults of the large corporate brands that sell in all of the main market grocery stores... .. now that I have had them and feed my large labrador them regularly, our dog has considerable less weight from all of the additives the other brands had and his energy has maintained itself a lot longer (IMO). Trust me, I love my animals and I am not a "swear by it guy".. but I noticed it. Additionally, they have always been good for clips, trims, and other grooming needs. The young lady at the doggy salon was very detailed. Overall, going to PETCO has been pleasant. They get us the food we need for our animals, groom them as needed, and allow my kids to see all the animals and explore on each visit like it was a mini zoo. read more

The service is awesome. We recently bought a fish tank and were in the process of stocking it so we've been in multiple times now for miscellaneous supplies as well as new fish. I don't often shop here for my dogs primary food but we will go here to get treats since my guys are just as happy with Milk Bones as they are with the fancy treats the specialty shops have. And since I don't over feed the treats, the junkyness of the treats isn't a concern! That being said! for the last 12 years, this is where I have gone for all my reptile needs! I grew up owning Leopard Gecko's, all 3 of which I got from here - 2 purchased and 1 adopted. I will say this much to new lizard owners, do your own research instead of going based on what the sales associates say what is best for your lizards. Over the years I was given a lot of bad advice on what substrate and food was best for my lizards but by doing my own investigation on what they needed I was able to give them great and healthy lives. As of recent, my husband has taken a liking to Bearded Dragons. We got our first one at this location and had him for a little over 2 weeks and he had what appeared to be a heart attack. When we took it back to them and explained the situation, they let us know that someone else had reported a similar sad event with a dragon of the same hatch and said that it may just be that particular hatch. Being that it was outside of their warranty policy, we had low hopes for getting any sort of replacement pet or refund. To our surprise, the gave us a new lizard. Really appreciated everything they have done over the years and how nice they were about helping with the one that died. read more
