Kara's Pet Care

Kara and her staff are remarkable. I have had them train my "Covid" puppy Willow, she has…read moreblossomed under her tutelage and I am confident I can handle her in most situations. To highly recommend them and have done so to many fellow dog owners.

I recently moved to Maine and contacted Kara's Petcare on the recommendation of my vet. I was so…read moreexcited because it seemed like they would be able to offer daycare for my dogs and some auxiliary training if needed. They also said they did transport to the daycare facility and boarding on occasion. It seemed perfect. I should mention that there are Kara's pet care facilities in Portsmouth, Berwick, and Falmouth. First I was asked to set up a meet and greet with one of their associates at my home so she could meet my pets. It took me many tries to get through many unreturned phone calls, but finally we did set up the meet and greet and that went well. Then I was asked to set up an app and an account before we could actually schedule any dog care. So I set up the app and the account. Then I was asked to drive my dogs to their facility to see if the dogs would "be happy there." So I drove my dogs 25 minutes to the facility. When I got to the facility I was told that they were supposed to stay there for a day assessment and then I should come and pick them up. This was not communicated to me earlier, and I had not budgeted an extra hour of driving back-and-forth. Then they would reschedule the assessment and they would come and pick up my dogs for the day-long assessment. All before any dog care could be scheduled. So, still not on the calendar. So to summarize: you need to go through a long process of scheduling a meet and greet, then you need to have the meet and greet, then you need to sign up for the app, then your dogs have to be assessed to see if they will be happy. I'm just thinking that anyone who's busy enough to need dog care is too busy for this multilayered, multi-step, poorly communicated process where phone calls, texts, and emails are returned only about half the time.

It was suggested to enroll in classes to challenge her. She started immediately to find treats in boxes and from there with Pam's training she had become quite the confident dog. Sometimes my Corgi would join in the games at home so she is now going to Pam's classes as well. Both my girls are having such a great time they can't wait to go to class. They know exactly where we're going on Tuesday nights. It's such great exercise for them and myself as well. We've been to CGC classes as well and now have passed with Merrilyn Hill as our instructor. I can't say enough good things about POC. I plan on attending a lot more classes because of the fun and exercise, especially now that fall and winter is coming.

We started with our puppy at 3 months. 8 were in the class. We did have a couple of "aggressive" puppies. In no time Merrillynn had the puppies responding to their owners well, without any aggression. You certainly can tell what owners work with the dogs during the week! Boy, the ones who only come to class must be disappointed, because they haven't taught the puppies and muscle memory to build upon each week.

I reached out to Nikki's K9 training in a moment of desperation and could not be more glad that I did! Nikki totally renewed my love for my dog and has set my dog up for success at home and in stressful environments. After the first session with Nikki, I had a whole new dog! My puppy was calmer, able walk politely on a leash, knew how to look for leadership, and follow training directions overall. I worked with 3 other trainers (private and group sessions) and a dog socialization program without any progress before I met Nikki. Nikki's program and approach is the only thing that has made a difference in my dog's behavior. On top of the training, Nikki has a wealth of knowledge in canine health and nutrition. She helped design a feeding plan for my puppy that was customized to his breed and size. Nikki has been able to answer every question I've had related to dog ownership with expertise and compassion. Most of all, I appreciate how Nikki really understands my dogs needs. She does not try to train away what makes my puppy special. Instead, she customizes her approach to align the the dog's overall motivation which makes for a much happier puppy! 1,000,000/10

We were blessed enough to work with Nikki, and I am happy to say our dog Saffie is a very different dog. We were able to build her confidence up working with Nikki and her amazing doggie partner Koda. We now have her crate trained and off leash trained! She still doesn't like other dogs or new people, but she's much less reactive now than she was before training with Nikki. If you have a dog that needs a lot of help, or a dog that just needs some fine tuning, then Nikki is your answer. Thanks Nikki, and thanks Koda!
