Grooming service is not reliable, and untrustworthy. They tell you one thing and does not do what they told you.

On 6/30/19 around 545PM I was checking out at petco when I overheard one of the workers (an older man, bald, with a beard and glasses) talking to a customer about service dogs. When I was being checked out I asked if he was talking to the other customers about service dogs because I have one in training with me and would be happy to answer questions. The worker went on to say that due to the stigma against pit bulls, he should tell his landlord that the dog was a service dog to get around breed restrictions because no one can question if it is a service dog. I calmly tried to inform him that not only is it illegal to fake a service dog but according to the ADA there are two questions an establishment is legally allowed to ask: 1. if it is a service dog task trained to mitigate a disability and if the dog user answers yes 2. What tasks it's trained to perform. I also said not only is that illegal but it is an insult to the level of training that service dogs go through to become service dogs. He was fighting with me and telling them to lie about their dog since it's going through a Petco class, which of course is not nearly up to par with the approximate 2 years of training a service dog goes through. He brought up ESAs which is very different from a service animal alone also saying they can lie for that. He was then saying he worked in security for years and that it was okay, which is also false because I work for public safety as well. I stopped the transaction and was trying to educate them on how it is wrong and illegal to fake a service animal since it is taking advantage of people with disabilities and he just walked away from me mumbling something. He was being completely rude and disgusting to me, especially considering he was advising people to do illegal things after I was educating him. Of course, I didn't buy my dog food and I will never, ever be back if that kind of misinformation is spread at this kind of location where lots of uneducated dog owners go for advice. read more

I called to make an appointment for my dog to get his nails clipped and furminated and the girl told me my dog couldn't come in and that I needed to sign up for some card that was described like a credit card. She said since my dog was new that he needed to be assessed so apparently that can't take place during the weekend? For what reason? She had an attitude from the time she picked up the phone to the time she hung up. I then called back to speak with the manager who also wasn't so pleasing to talk to. I've taken my dog to professional groomers and they've never had to "assess him". Needless to say I will never step foot in another petco again. read more

I'm in this store multiple times a week, the staff is very fun, and funny (Bryan, Chelsea, and Nassar). They're very attentive and go out of their way to help me and my family. I've been here for vaccinations, dog grooming, and just general purchases, and I've never been let down. It's upsetting to see these negative reviews besmirching this establishment with ill intent, but don't let them deceive you. read more

The store is clean and neat. Everyone here is so professional and nice. Except that old lady cashier name Maryran! She is so rude, mean and not polite to her customers!!! I was just trying to find my credit card from my wallet and she told me "come on, hurry up"!!! I would give this Petco five stars if it wasn't of this cashier. read more

I don't think I'll be going back there with my dog. He was very nervous n I feel they could have done a little more to make him feel at ease.i wanted to go in wirh him which I knew it would calm him down. But they wouldn't allow it. I took a chance n still let them groom him but wish now i didn't. They nick his 1 nail which when I got home was still spotting blood. He s ok now but hoping that experience doesn't make it hard for the next groomer read more

I will never bring my dog here again. Katie was the groomer and she had my dog there for 6 hours. They overbook and their "experienced" groomers don't know how to groom. My dog is a pomsky and he is a long haired dog. He came back with a partially shaved neck. The part where she shaved is not even. She shaved almost down to his skin so now I have to worry about my dog getting sun burn. It is days later and he still has tufts of hair falling out. She also shaved around the top of his tail for no reason. I did not give permission for her to shave him. He came back with mats where he never had them before. Don't bring your dog here! read more

It's 2016. New dog, new situation. $31.99 for a Basset Hound to be a bath dog. I've been to PetSmart and I've been to Petco. Honestly, Nicole is super friendly at Petco ! My Basset comes home so clean and the smell LASTS! I don't mind if he's there for a few hours. Leaves me time to get stuff done running around town. By far, the best price, service, and quality many, many times over! I'm done with self service washes. Who can't afford this overt now and then?? read more

The grooming salon has a wonderful person grooming the dogs: Katy. I listened to her groom several dogs while I bathed and blew dry my own dog. She was kind and gentle and sweet with each of the dogs. It is clear that she has the dogs' best interest at heart. read more

It's alright- I've never truly gotten a complaint to give about Petco but- my dad went to get our husky puppy some treats and he talked to one of the grooming ladies about what treat she recommended for our husky puppy and whenever we gave that treat to him he vomited. clearly- not educated correctly so it was no her place to give such a recommendation. I stopped giving him the treats and he felt way better. wow; I'll shop there when the other pet store is closed but I definitely do not trust them for advice. grooming is average price- it's pretty decent actually cause I called another grooming salon and they were $10 above Petco's price. trainers are extremely nice but sort of useless in my opinion. I have potty trained my first dog so easily, taught him over 10 tricks. maybe that's his breed- but my cousin had a GSD and they spent $200 or something on training classes for him, he still turned out a bit food aggressive, pulled hardly on leashes, and had trouble knowing one phrase: sit. that's all they taught him. sit. my dog does it w/o treats. they wasted a LOT of time going there. he never got potty trained either by them. I had to teach him myself not to pull on leashes. all I've gotten that's useful from PETCO is the vaccines. that's all. ((By the way, the meat that was in the treat she recommended he is not allergic to. we have given other treats of the same meat but no vomiting or bad reactions.)) Overall, pros and cons. Pros - Good hours - Grooming is alright - Has a lot of supplies - Variety in treats - Lots of toys - Seem to have good kept animals - Has adoptions held for cats (rescue cats something) and happypawsrescue. Cons - Advice wasn't given correctly, at least to me. - I have seen bad complaints of grooming however by others that workers are taking cigars outside instead of tending to animals and no change was made. - Yes there are toys, leashes, and jackets even- but it's so over-priced! - Some lady at the cashier- perhaps blonde and old if I recall gave such a rude vibe. - Workers /NEED/ more knowledge. - Training hasn't done a difference. read more

Please don't come here for their grooming service! Their service was ridiculously slow! Booked the appointment a week in advance for a 10am slot on a weekday. Called in advance and confirmed the entire grooming would only take one hour. Drop off my dog and came back for a hour and was told there were lots of dogs before ours and we needed to wait another four hours!!!!!!! They were just simply overbooked! No apology and nothing and was simply told "you can reschedule".well if I had to reschedule, then what's the point of making a appointment for? Waited outside of the grooming section and observed the groomers were not that nice to the dogs as they yelled at them. One of the groomer was playing on her phone for almost every 15 mins. After they finished grooming one dog, they then went out for smoking and talking??!!! This is very unprofessional. Another unrelated story is that the store manager Jason was helpful at all. The store itself is well organized and the staff are helpful. This is specifically about the grooming shop. I have taken my dog in for a bath and brush twice. The first time they finished ahead of schedule, and she was shed-free and smelling sweetly for a full week. This last time it took 3.5 hours. I came back to the store after 2.5 thinking maybe they had just forgotten to call me (they had estimated 2) and the groomer was sitting on the ground outside with a friend, smoking a cigarette. She said she hadn't bathed my dog yet because she had been problematic about her nails. 45 minutes later, she came out again and said it would be a while longer because my dog didn't like having her ears dried. None of this had been a problem with the first groomer, but I figured my dog is new to grooming so maybe it was true. Then I bring her home and she is shedding all over the place, like she wasn't even brushed. Definitely not going there again. read more

My siberian husky is clean and thoroughly dry. I have to shout them out because complete dry is such a joy for us.

I had a grooming appointment for my 13 years-old Bichon Frise dog at 3 pm for this past Sunday (May 26th). Been there 10 minutes earlier, they told me "we're so busy, please come back in 10 minutes, we cannot take you in now." That was strange, I have been the customer of this local Petco store for about 4 years now. I told them when I am leaving the dog, due to the age of him, he has a number of bumps across his skin here and there; warned them to be careful in not cutting through those bumps. They called me at 6:35 pm, saying that my dog is ready to pick up. Went there in 10 minutes to see a disaster; they machine-shaved my dog back to his skin and during that machine shaving, they cut through to of his bumps, one at the top of his head. He was bleeding from both cuts (one smaller bump in the right front leg and the other pea-sized bump (extremely visible) at the top center of dog's head) and they had applied something on those cuts just to cut the bleeding. Dog's grooming was not yet complete, they were doing his nails. I finally received my dog (fully shaved to his skin) at 7:10 pm; 10 minutes after the store closure time. It seemed like although they gave me 4 days before an appointment at 3 pm for Sunday, obviously they did the grooming for other dogs first, left my dog at the back of the line (ignoring my formal appointment), and since they had not enough time left, they decided to do a quick machine shaving to the skin. Apparently, in that hurry, they did not care a bit about cutting through my dogs bumps. Of course, at the end, they did not forget to charge me 80 bucks for this disaster. Will never go there again. Horrible and painful experience, never advise any one to use that so-called grooming salon of this Piscataway, NJ store. read more

Worst petco out there! Dog trainer has no idea what she's doing. The class is only 1 hour long she takes 15 minutes to set up 30 minutes for the dogs to play and get their energy out and now time is left for the dogs to actually learn anything. The groomers don't cut dogs nails well. My dog and this other woman were told that we have to go to the vet to get nails cut because their too lazy to cut a bigger dogs nails. Manager is young and could care less about customer service and the way the store operates. I would take my business to another location. read more

Great PETCO location. Employees always ask if they can help, even if I don't ask them (maybe I just always look confused and lost, I don't know!). The workers there obviously love animals, which should be a prerequisite to working there :) I always enjoy the visit. Employees are always attentive to my little dog when I bring her in. read more

I love Petco and their support for adopting animals. However, the adoption organization associated with this Petco, Cattitude, Inc, is horrendous. I came in for 4 weekends straight to adopt a cat named Tangles. I emailed, submitted an application, and continued to go weekend after weekend. I have adopted 3 cats in my life and never had such unresponsiveness and rudeness from an adoption agency. When I applied they said they would contact me during the week. They failed to do so. I went in and they said I needed to bring in my roommates, something I completely understood as a safe home is important. When I went again the next weekend, October 24th, they told me they gave her away to someone else with no phone call or email telling me I had been bypassed. They were adamant about not being able to put cats on hold for adoption but then allowed another person to hold a car for a fee, something I was not offered. Yet, the person who adopted Tangles had to leave and come back to bring her husband. It was the same situation as me, but instead of returning for a month this woman got her nearly instantaneously. They never called my reference or my veterinarian. I spent a month trying to adopt Tangles because she is truly a love. I am happy to see she now has a home, but this organization had continually disregarded me as a potential caretaker. Maybe a call to tell me my roommates didn't have to come in, even after 3 weeks, may have been a better response. I have great respect for those who care and help animals in need, but it seems these particular volunteers had no respect for me or my time. Do not waste your time trying to buy fish from this store, or you will be sorely disappointed. They will refuse to sell you fish if you can't demonstrate that your aquarium meets their standards. What's worse is that the staff know very little about fish-- so they'll refuse to sell you fish based on their misinformed on fish compatibility. While I understand the desire to make sure fish make it to a good home, they should at least hire knowledgeable staff instead of letting them hazard a guess and insist that they're right. read more
