I usually never leave bad reviews, but this time I simply cannot stay silent. If you ever consider bringing your dog here for grooming, bathing, or nail trimming, my honest advice is: do NOT go to this Petco. A couple of days ago, I brought my dogs in. After about two hours, I received a text saying they were ready for pickup. When I was already two minutes away, they suddenly called to tell me that my Golden Retriever had been taken to the Emergency Hospital because he was bleeding. I was shocked. When I arrived, my first question was why they didn't call me before taking him to the ER. Noah S., the person who trimmed his nails, responded with a smirk on his face, saying he "did" call me. I told him he only called after my dog was already in the emergency room. I rushed to the hospital, and when I saw my dog covered in blood, with a bump on his head, and all of his nails cut down to the quick, I was horrified. Afterward, I took him to my own veterinarian, and the woman who transported him from Petco went with me. They did cover all the expenses -- but that does not undo what happened. I will NEVER bring my pets here again, and I strongly advise others to stay away. Please be careful. read more

Made an appointment for 2pm on a Sunday for grooming. Stuck around home waiting to take my dog and 50 minutes before my appointment, I got a text saying it was rescheduled. I called in and was told another groomer called out sick so the groomer that I had booked, Jeanette , took that groomers dogs and cancelled her own appointments . I will never go back read more

This has got to be the worst Petco store., 3 times now I have booked grooming online and 3 times when I got there they said I did not have an appointment even though I got texts saying so. You can't even talk to anyone about it cause they act like you're speaking another language. Even the store manager has no answers and when asked only reply's in a word salad. There was even another time where I booked a grooming appointment and they did not at that time even address one of the issues that I paid for. Some of the staff, not all, mis-handle your dog , if you don't like your job... get another, and when asked to speak with a district manager they give you a phone number in the Philippines...wait until you try that! I have been using the grooming services here for the past six months for my small dog. My dog was initially a bit nervous, but after a few visits she is very happy and walks right in! The groomers are very friendly and treat her very well and her fur is now very soft and smells fresh, her ears are very clean and her nails neatly trimmed. The employees inside the store are excellent as well. My dog has food issues and they go out of there way to help me find what I need. Thank you so very much! read more

This is the only location where I run into any kind of issues with getting my dog groomed. I guess they don't like big dogs. The same girl always gives me problems and refuses services. I know it's not my dog because I go to other locations and they love my boy! Don't work with dogs if your scared of big breeds. And reading some of these reviews I see I'm not the only one having these issues. It's probably the same girl that keeps giving me issues. read more

We used this location for dog grooming and since they got their new grooming subscription option they are constantly trying to up-sell grooming services and more recently have done a horrible job cutting nails claiming we need to come in weekly to get them trimmed properly and that the dogs nail quick was too long meanwhile I have 3 large dogs and know what the quick is and it's no where near where they are trimmed to. Just very frustrating since we paid 20.00 and the nails still need to be trimmed and are pressing on the floor. Don't waste your money unless you're willing to do their expensive grooming package because they'll do a bad job to get you to buy in. read more

very low education is required to work at this place. i don't know how any of them get themselves there everyday. their so called policies are made up right there on the spot. don't go there if you are a busy mom with little ones. you will be given the third degree for 20 minutes before dropping off dog for grooming. you could give them hundreds of papers proving everything on your dog and they can just still turn you away because they are lazy. read more

This was the worst groomer we have been to. The staff were rude. When I broight up a concern the girl at the counter skuffed and walked away ignoring me. This was after we waited almost 3 hours pasted our appointment time. Their answer to that was the people before us were late so it put them behind. I spoke to the assistant manager in the store at the time who told me the manager would call, never heard from them. I decided to try the Easton store. I set up the appointment. A day before the appointment I received a call from the Easton store saying the appointment was cancelled because my dog was a safety issue. Never was in the Pohatcong store. As it turns out, the manager did say something to the grooming staff so they black listed my dog. I called Petco corp office in California, they also said they would get back to me. Had an amazing experience today at petco! Not only was the employee knowledgable but so friendly to myself and my little puppy. Becca was the one who helped me and she truely completed my experience and made pet shopping that much easier. If you need to get training for your dog, you are out of luck if the dog trainer is off. No one in the store including the manager can give you information. No one has the trainer's schedule. No one will help!! They say "call back" tomorrow. The store is very disorganized, there is no leadership or accountability. It is run like a mom and pop store. They don't care if they get business. Yesterday, my partner and I had purchased a harness for our 1 year old dog that he immediately slipped out of right in the parking lot. We went back into the store and Aaron was called to help us find a better fitting harness. Aaron was AMAZING! He took the time to fully explain and educate us on the different leash options vs harnesses and even went into detail to give us a mini lesson on how to best train our newly adopted dog how to walk on the slip leash with us. It was a fantastic experience to have a conversation with someone so knowledgable and so willing to make sure we found the right leash that would work best for our goals with our dog. The store had a great selection of harnesses, leashes, and everything we could possibly need for our dog. We are bummed we don't live closer or we would make this our regular Petco. We will definitely be shopping here when we know we will be in the area. Overall, the best experience we could have asked for when going to get things for our dog. read more

We have been bringing our Golden Retriever here for several years and always like the service Beca was the best. I just dropped off our dog for grooming and was surprised by the sticker shock. Prices increased dramatically in January 2019. A bath only is near $60 and a cut increases the cost to near $80. Last year, all of this was $50+. There seems to be a big groomer change over at this facility within the last year. I will admit that the grooming is still good. read more

I have been coming here a long time. About 7 years now. Most of the staff know me by name. I have 5 cats, 2 dogs, salt water fish and fresh water fish. I spend a lot of money monthly on food and supplies. Having the $5 rewards is extremely beneficial. My favorite of course is the staff as I mentioned. They take time to ask about your pets and your needs. After my surgery it was a few months I didn't go in. They knew about it. When I did make it out of the house petco was one of my first stops. Three of the staff came over to welcome me back and helped me with my products as I was still in a brace. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Kelly and Nick are my favorite! read more

I'm a new dog owner and have always found someone willing to help me find what I need, and even answer general questions I have about my dog's behavior and habits. We are first time pet owners and were completely lost as far as the training process. We walked into Petco and happened to find that there was a training class in effect. We had quite a few questions about training. The trainer, Vicki, took the time from her class to speak to us about our dog and what our concerns were regarding her behavior. She was really knowledgeable and has many years of experience in the training field. Needless to say, we signed up for our first class. Our dog, Juno, has learned immensely and is a completely different dog. Before we began the first class, she was timid and skittish, she definitely lacked self confidence. Now, she is playful and wants to meet any and all, human or animal. Ms. Vicki not only trains your dog, but concentrates on training you, which allows you to understand how important you are to the training process. We have learned so much from her. Vicki makes the class fun and also shows you that it's not just about the training, it is also about bonding with your furry friend. We are now in our second class and have learned even more. Im a first time pet-owner and petco has really eased my nerves on helping me choose the most beneficial dog food for my little pup. the employees seem to know a lot of information about animals which is super helpful and even when you fact check them they are all right. prices are very high here so coupons are helpful, but are hard to come by. they also price match so find a cheaper price online (which you will, just google it takes 5 seconds!) and they match that price. Of the numerous times we've tried to bring our dog in just to get her nails clipped, they have either been flat-out rude or have had any excuse why they can't take her. It's not like she's a nasty or aggressive dog. She's a very sweet and loving beagle. Today my husband called to see if they would do her nails and they told us there is a new policy now where they cannot accept any dogs 13 years or older. Flat-out ridiculous. After coming many times to have my dog's nails cut, I was told that my dog would not be serviced. She is 12 years old and the cutoff is 13. When the employee said she couldn't do the service, I asked to speak with the supervisor. The supervisor claimed that the cutoff was 12. I told her that she had changed the rules. Also, they had to call my vet to verify my dog's age and rabies shot. All this after we have been there many times. I will not go back. I thought they were rude and not helpful even though they did eventually do her nails. It was not a good experience. read more

We bought my daughter a guinea pig from the Phillipsburg, NJ store as a Christmas present. Right away, I wasn't impressed with the store or the animal handling skills I saw on display. It was very difficult to flag down anyone to help me, and the guy who eventually got her out of the cage for me handled her like a stuffed animal, practically dropping her into the cardboard carrier. A couple weeks later, the pig showed signs of an upper respiratory infection so we brought her back to see the vet. I just called to find out when she would be done with her treatment... they sold her. They freaking sold my 10-year-old daughter's Christmas present to someone else! According to the store, there was no contact information listed for her. No contact information... EXCEPT for the copy of the original purchase paperwork that I handed to them. So, now, I get to tell my 10-year-old that her li'l Muffin is gone forever. Thanks for the staggeringly careless and inept treatment of my daughter's pet. While they did offer me a discount on a new pig, I think I'll pay full price elsewhere. read more

I went into this Petco about a week ago to get my very first Ferret. Overall I did not enjoy my experience at all. The service was not friendly at all. The women who helped me was becoming annoyed with me because I had questions about the animal I was buying. The products I bought were good and the pricing was very, but the service is what made my experience terrible. I won't be returning. read more

This review is for the Grooming Department of the store. I brought my Shitzu-Poodle mix to Petco in Phillipsburg for grooming. Upon our arrival, I was informed that the dog could not be handled by staff at all and that his collar and leash needed to be removed. In order to get the dog to the grooming area, a slip lead was placed over his head. It should be called a Noose, because that's what it is. The groomer (Rachel) dragged my dog by the lead (noose), choking him to the point that he was struggling to breathe. My dog was so nervous that he urinated out of fear. He was shaking and petrified. She called him a vicious dog, there is not a mean dog in this dog's body. I've taken my dog for grooming here before and I never had a problem. He has also been to other groomers, and never had an issue. This particular person should not be dealing with pets. I do not recommend Petco for grooming and I will not bring my dog here ever again. read more
