Came to the location to use a coupon that I didn't know was expired. They were helpful and honored it. But that honor came with some serious attitude and time wasted. Just an overall bad experience since Petco doesn't have the brands I prefer and went out of my way since I'm far from all the shops now. Even got attitude as to why I came to that store and not one closer, as if they know what's going on in my life. I brought my terrier in to be groomed by Betty C. During the consultation, when she asked what length I wanted the hair to be, she also asked if I wanted her to file her nails and brush her teeth. I replied, "No thank you, I don't want her teeth brushed", so she proceeded to say, "OK, just the nails." Please note, nail filing is included in the bathing package. When I went to pick her up, she had added a $22 charge for a Premiere Package, which included teeth brushing, an extra nail filing, and some oatmeal wash. When I questioned it and told her that I didn't want her teeth brushed, she replied, "Yeah, I didn't. I just filed her nails." So I paid $22 on top of the $58 bathing charge because she spent an extra 22 seconds on an "extra" nail file?! By the way, her nails looked the exact same as they always do when I just get the regular bathing package, which includes nail filing. This was a deceptive, extra charge and I will NEVER BRING MY DOG THERE AGAIN. So shortsighted, to con customers that could be a consistent source of revenue for some extra cash. read more

Took my dog to be bathed and get a hygiene cut. I told the groomer (Jordan) that he was medicated two hours before appointment (due to anxiety) and asked if he was on time. I was told my dog would be done in a hour, hour & a half. Three hours later I called and was told he was being good and that he was going to get a haircut. I was pleased. Six minutes later Jordan called my husband and said he was trying to bite and pooped in his cage and we needed to pick him up. He never got anything done except for a bath in three hours! His medication wore off, well no kidding! I was also told by Jordan that he didn't like the way I spoke on the phone when I asked why a bath is taking so long. I was polite (I promise) he then proceeded to tell me that he was doing me a favor and that he didn't appreciate me asking why it was taking so long. I'm sorry, but I'm paying you to do a service and I have kids to pick up from school. My dog is traumatized over a bath! Three hours for a bath! Do not go to this groomer! His attitude is appalling and is extremely unprofessional! You can NOT trust in this man to take care of your pet! Side note...was told that two groomers recently quit. A few months ago, I brought my double coated dog in for a groom. He was trimmed incredibly short without permission, and the groomer nicked his private area and did not let me know. After a phone call expressing my dissatisfaction with the groom, a petco employee called me from their personal phone number and threatened me. I attempted to find a resolution through Petco's customer service line. Not only were my complaints never heard, but I was repeatedly ignored for weeks. Be wary of taking your pets here. I bought some fish from petco in ORLAND PARK. And one of them died. I was told when I bought the Fish just bring any fish back anytime if it dies and will either refund you or give you another fish. So ,I bought my dead fish back, and the manager proceeded to yell at me telling me she would not sell me another fish until I bring her a water sample. This manager from Petco yelled so loud that all the customers turned around and looked at me. I was so embarrassed. This is ridiculous. I have been a fish hobbyist for over 40 years. What I like most about this Petco location is it's size. It's small and quaint and the customer service is always good. Unfortunately, their aquatic supplies is limited. I was looking for a lighted glass top for one of my aquariums and had to order online from a competitor because they didn't carry the size I needed. Also, I needed Castor & Pollux kibble for my pups and found out that it's only in stock at particular locations. Regardless, I like the store and do recommend it. read more

Tried calling this location for a grooming and asked if they had an availability day of or anything during the week, was told that they would speak to their manager and call back within 10/15 mins. Never called back. So I presumed to call them back to get an answer and their Grooming manager "Jordan G" answered with so much attitude and sassiness when I was trying to understand the issues regarding the situation and appointment status. Jordan said I can come in shortly and so I took my puppy to them. As soon as I walk in the door Jordan at the front desk without us saying anything says something along the lines of " yes you guys are the ones I spoke to on the phone" with so much attitude. As I was trying to understand and explain the situation of why I called to book an appointment Jordan was VERY disrespectful and unprofessional in the way he spoke to me and my fiance. Then he put a leash on my puppy and was saying how he was doing us a favor by taking in our dog on short notice (ITS YOUR JOB). And was pulling on my dogs neck with the leash when my dog was sitting still and that's when I had my final straw and decided to cancel and not go through with the grooming. Then Jordan, acted like nothing was happening and told me to "go ahead get the manager, get the cops too" when leaving the grooming station when I asked for his manager. I proceeded to call the cops like he wished ;) and he stormed to the back area of the registers (where the managers were) and slammed the door and was yelling back there. The police took my report, and got to speak to the managers and one of them knows about his attitude and problems overall lol and said that's just his personality etc etc like we're supposed to accommodate for him!!!! No Jordan you are the groomer, you have to treat customers appropriately and with respect. Managers said they will address it with him about his attitude. Jordan G is not a groomer you want your dog being taken care by NOR even have a civil conversation with, he tested our patience numerous times. As I can see there are numerous complaints about the grooming managers/staff, specifically even for Jordan at this location. Needs to take his sassiness and attitude somewhere else! Hopefully the Petco Corporate and managers will deal this appropriately. read more

Anytime I need pet tags, I order from Petco. Best pet tags and they don't jingle when my dogs move around. The tags are high quality, easy to read and stay on their collars. The customer service here is awesome. The times I've picked up online orders with their curbside option have been great. Just like the Western location, this is a small storefront and they do the best they can in getting your order ready/out in a timely fashion. Malik was our groomer and he was FANTASTIC. So friendly, professional, and helpful throughout the whole process, from check in, to giving a call 20 minutes before he was finished, to giving me a summary of things at the end and making recommendations for how to help my dog be less afraid of the grooming in the future. He truly went above and beyond. You could also tell he is a natural with animals-- he was so gentle and kind to my dog and I immediately felt safe leaving him in Malik's hands. I took my puppy there to get groomed and was met with unprofessional behavior. My dog is a few months old and the first puppy I've had as an adult he has a tendency to hump. When he was put on the floor, he humped the groomers dog, and I was met with the comment, in front of other customers, that he must've witnessed some grown people doing what he was doing. I should've known then to take my puppy elsewhere. I requested that my dog be groomed at a level four however, he was groomed at a level five he was almost scalped. The picture shows how low he was cut and hopefully he will not get an infection from being cut so close. To add insult to injury my dog was there for almost 4 hours, and he's a small dog maybe he would've gotten out faster if the person grooming him had not taken time to groom his own dog, while my dog was sitting in the back waiting to be serviced. Furthermore, they had a dog there that had diarrhea any dog that presents with diarrhea is sick and should not be getting groomed with other animals. Buyers remorse. I am unsure of the Petco in Oak Lawn selling mouse-size feeder rats, but a black female that had curiously climbed atop the water dispenser was a happy meal. I didn't need much bedding to keep the feeder mouse I bought afterwards, because it didn't have a desire to burrow as did baby mice from my past purchases at the Chicago Reptile House. I scrapped together my usual lettuce and pellet feed, and decided to feed my snake after a couple days. read more

Having just visited both the Orland Park location (last week, I think?) and the Oak Lawn location (today), Oak Lawn reigns supreme in my book. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I'll never be a Petco regular. I just won't. They're expensive and I've been spoiled by Chewy. Petsmart is closer if I'm in a bind, so Petco is strictly a matter of stopping by if I'm in the area and reaaaaally need something (or my kids beg for yet another new toy for our lab puppy). That being said, let's start with a huge plus: the employees here were SO friendly. Offering help, making suggestions, just generally being polite and welcoming...all good. Probably some of the best customer service I've seen from anywhere in a long time. The store itself? Uh, yeah. For one, it was seriously no less than 45,000,000° in there. Like. Turn the freaking air on already! In turn, most of the animals there were essentially too hot/tired/over everything to even move. Which was weird. It freaked out my four year old because NO ONE was moving during our first pass through the store. Not the birds. Not the hamsters. Not the ferrets. The second walk through was better but still...weird. This store smells very much like...pets. I'm sure it was because of the warmth, but it was NOT appealing. We found a few things and spent a small fortune, but I'm honestly in no hurry to return. Sorry, Petco. I wish things could've been different for us. read more

This is our primary store to purchase things for our kitties and it is frequented quite often. The staff here is a mixed bag. It really depends on what mood you catch everyone in on any given day and that will determine the service you will recieve. There really is no consistant pattern to it. Can't even begin to describe the horrible customer service I received from this place. I called in advance to let one of the associates know I was on my way to exchange a filter that stopped running in my 7yr old sons fish tank. I also informed her that I was rushing out the house to drop my son off at school and left my wallet. I did happen to have the receipt for the filter. I wanted to make sure the receipt was all I needed to perform the exchange. She agreed and told me to come on in. The filter wasn't even 24hrs old. when I got there, the same associate I spoke with seemed to have a different vibe from when I spoke with her on the phone. she had the filter at the front for me, but didn't want to exchange it for me because I didn't have my ID. I hate to make this about race, but I'm 100% sure this had to do with the color of my skin. The greeting she gave the previous (white) customer was completely different from the greeting I received. I knew the area I was in so I shouldn't have been surprised. How are you unable to perform an exchange when I have the receipt for the product purchased less than 24 hrs ago?! Her response was that's the policy. I called 2 other petco locations when I walked out. Both locations confirmed that as long as I have the receipt, I should be able to exchange. They recommended I ask for a manager. Long story short, every worker in that store was Caucasian, and they made me feel as if I were walking into a lions den! The vibe was so uncomfortable and 2 additional workers walked up to the counter and watched the whole thing to I guess make sure the lady helping me was okay. I asked for a manager who exchanged the filter for me but had no logical explanation for why his employee behaved the way she did. I filed a complaint via corporate and am waiting to hear from them. Debating on whether I want to write BBB. Please visit another Petco, or actually Petsmart would be your best bet! read more

The aquariums in this store are consistently filthy. The cups with the betta fish in them look especially disgusting. I've been in the store multiple times so these conditions seem to be the norm. The plant tanks as well are murky and dirty looking. I understand it's a big box store, so money is the only concern in the end, but these are living creatures for god sake. Maybe throw the managers in a tank of their own urine for a week and see how they like it. read more

Never had any issues shopping here like at other pet stores. I'm greeted as soon as I walk in the door, always attentive to my questions and everyone is so nice and knowledgeable. Julie, the dog trainer is amazing and the only trainer I'd ever want working with my pups! The new fish guy, really cares about the fish and there's a huge difference in the way the department is kept compared to how it was in the past. The groomers always have a smile on their faces and ensures that I'm happy with my service. My pups haircut always comes out perfect and just how I want it! Its so cool when the employees walk around with the reptiles, letting people get to know animals they normally wouldn't want to! read more

Grooming department very unreliable. I made an appointment two months ago for both of my dogs. I got a call an hour before I was supposed to bring them telling me the groomer never showed up, but they would have her call me when she came in next. Never got a call. Decided to give them another chance this week. Had an appointment set up for today at 3;30. Got a call at 1:30 saying "Brittany" the groomer didn't come in to work. How odd for a store to know what customer service is. They have pretty much anything that you would need for a pet. This is a great store when it comes to pet supplies. Employees are always friendly, however I'm only giving it 3 stars. I was in there on Monday 8-18-14 around 7:30 p.m. I wanted to ask the groomer a few questions and possibly set up an appointment for my two dogs that desperately need it. I was told the groomer had to leave early (normally they would still be there.) The nice young man working the register offered to take my name and phone number and have the groomer call me on Tuesday. It is now Wednesday and nobody ever bothered to contact me. This review is going to mostly be based upon my time with Julie the lead Dog Trainer. Now the store is great for your pets, a lot of smells for dogs, convenient parking, great staff, but one thing that gets over looked a lot is their dog training services. Julie had helped take our Shiba Inu from a 3/10 to a 9/10. He has completely changed for the better, but it doesn't come easy. Just the training alone isn't enough, we spend at least 15 minutes every day (or 2) to just go over his basic commands(sit, down, leave it, come, etc.) don't let the price scare you away, it really is worth every penny. I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND coming in when your puppy is around 5-6 weeks old, because as I've learned from Julie, that is when your dog is most influenced and socialized. We came in at his 8-9th week and he still did amazing. They need all the praise they can get, and the training here is just fanominal. read more

One of the worse Petcos. When you need help, there's no one in the store to help. They don't have enough employees. There is never any employee in fish department. When you try to return an item, it is a real issue. Even if you have the receipt. They always scrutinize you. The employees aren't helpful and nice. Don't even try to talk to the manager. Went into Petco on Friday to get a fish for my nephew's birthday present. The lady who was helping me was very rude. I told her I'm not familiar with fish, so I asked her to help. I was planning on getting a gold fish, but the lady told me I would need a 10 gallon tank so then I quickly changed my mind. The lady then told me that she is not going to sell me a golf fish if I buy a bowl for it so I said no worries I'm not going to buy a gold fish. She told me to buy a betta fish. So she gave me everything I "had to get" to buy this fish. The lady then sold me a $14.99 betta fish. After realizing that my bill will be over 60 dollars, I quickly returned everything. The lady then told me that "maybe buying a living thing for my 2 year old nephew isn't a good idea. It'll just go down hill." I ended up telling the lady that everyone in my family got their first fish when they were two, so I wanted to keep that tradition alive. She just rolled her eyes at me and I left. This was so awful. I'm never going here again. I went to Petsmart got the exactly same amount of stuff for 26 dollars and got better service then Petco. read more
