I don't shop at Petco because I can find everything cheaper online via Amazon, Chewy, etc., however, I found out they offer a vaccine clinic on Sundays from 10am-12pm and 2-4pm (each location has their own day/time) and opted to give them a try since it would guaranteed be cheaper than what my vet would charge. I was recommended by a friend and fellow dog owner to arrive prior to the start time of the clinic and I ended up being first in a relatively long line of dogs and owners. Thank goodness for this, because the vet working the clinic was late. I arrived at 9:45am and my dog was seen at approximately 10:45am (this was for 3 shots which took all of 3 minutes to administer). He's very well behaved but I saw a lot of other waiting dogs getting anxious, barking, etc. and felt bad for them for having to wait so long. Each vaccine was $35. Definitely for routine yearly vaccines I will come again. The staff have a pretty organized check in process, which includes them registering you on a tablet then getting a text when it's your dogs' turn to see the vet. read more

I am very disappointed in my delivery today placed an order after 10am for same day delivery said arrived after 5pm.. I live I am apartment building I know you are usually Uber drivers for delivery but I would be think that after you gave instructions how to access the building so not to leave my packet outside the building entrance door which gives FREE access to anyone passing the building or entering to take me packet is unacceptable. This review is mainly for the grooming salon, and in particular for Jen. My dog has SO MUCH ANXIETY about getting her nails cut, to the point that many places either give up and tell us they can't cut her nails or end up manhandling her and having one person physically hold her down while a second person forced the nail trim. Jen is the only person I have found - ever - who has been able to keep my dog relatively calm while getting her nails done. Seriously, if your dog freaks out about nail trims, bring them to Jen! She is an angel, and I am so thankful for her. Apart from this one individual, I have found the store to be clean and the associates universafriendly and prompt. Update July 2020: Jen is apparently not at this Petco anymore :( read more

I came here to buy saltwater fish. And I know only one guy in charge in the fishing department and I Always see him smoking outside. This time I finally decide the kind of fish i wanted and the whole fish tank lights were off i cant clearly see what saltwater fish they left or which is healthy. I waited 20mins and he Probably outside smoking again. Then he came in. I asked I need to grab some fish he goes "is going to be little bit of wait Because I have to new fish in the tank" After you spend 20 mins outside smoking and then not even helpping the customer or turn on the light. Very bad attitude also. I was pissed and left. I had to drove all the way to milford CT for better experience. This is bad location for fish. I believe some fish even dying. read more

They just finished my extremely stubborn and skidding 70+ pound Puppy. I can't believe they actually got her nails done. I've been to two different specialists and no one could get them done do to her nipping. This girl, Jess at North Haven PetCo was so patient and persistent. I'm extremely happy and impressed with the service. They are now going to deep bath deep brush spa, do her ears and anal glands them de-fur her. Nice!!!!! Highly recommend. read more

A lot of the people in there don't know nothing about the fish or reptiles, they suck at giving advice for the most part or they don't know what they are talking about. Bad business practices here. Poor customer service. The guy in the fish department is unhelpful and arrogant. He was shutting the lights off as I was getting into the department and ignoring me the whole time I'm walking around. I finally ask him if I can buy a pleco which he replays "we're not selling fish right now". Yuck! Due to what ? Never again will they get my business. I'm a manager and would be appalled if I found out this is how an employee of mine spoke to people. read more

Took my dog for grooming and they did a terrible job. They basically just shaved off parts of the hair on her body with no real care of her appearance. They did tell me she threw up in the cage because she was nervous and when they handed her to me she had dried throw up in her mouth. I would've thought they would have at least wiped her up giving her to me. Never again! read more

First time at the Petco location in North Haven! And will absolutely be returning. I just recently purchased a goldfish with 0 to little knowledge about it. I originally went to the Hamden petco which was full of a rude and judgemental cashiers that didn't bother to help me. BUT my saving grace is Bob. I came in looking for a filter and some advice on how to run my new aquarium and he was so friendly as well as crazy knowledgeable about everything. He didn't push me to buy stuff i didn't need and directed me towards every item I needed at the time and in the future and I walked out very satisfied. Thanks Bob! 10/10 you rock dude! read more

Prices are never the same as the website, and everytime I come in here they're always "we can't match them", i'm like, "it's not a match, those ARE YOUR prices"... no biggie, i just walk across the parking lot to Petsmart and they honor the prices for me. read more

Hi my name is Cisco and I'm a 7 year old shepherd mix. I like coming to Petco to walk around and smell everything. Dad takes me here cuz I'm a good boy and never pee in the store (though occasionally I'll steal a toy off a shelf). Let's be honest - bath days suck no matter what. Still, I don't mind so much cuz the groomers here are super nice to me. I usually hate most people I meet - I'm a nightmare to walk in public. But I like these Petco people and haven't tried to bite them yet, so that says a lot. Don't tell anyone - I've got a reputation to worry about. I knocked off a star cuz they brush my teeth. I brought my German Shepard to petco for grooming, I have brought him there before and have been very satisfied until I brought him there on September 7. His appointment was for Monday the 5th and the called to reschedule him as the groomer was out my husband said fine as he's retired and can bring him any day or time. We rescheduled him for Wednesday Sept 7 at 12 we went there and they told us he would be ready about 230 when it was 3 pm we decided to go and check when we got there they said they were just putting him in the tub and they would call we went home and around 330 they called and asked if we got their voicemail but we didn't as the phone call came from a number we didn't recognize they proceeded to tell us the dog suffered a seizure and he was fine but we might want to come get him we went there immediately and I was furious as they told us the groomer was out and they were behind I told them when we dropped him off at 12 they said he would be ready at 230 and when we went there at 3 they were just putting him in the tub I told them they stressed him out so much causing the seizure as he just went to the vet had blood work done and hit a clean bill of health as he's getting neutered in October they kept him in a cage probably too small for 3 hours and then put him in the tub??? I told the manager who by the way was the trainer and was familiar with him as she trained him a few months back. I told them I can never go back there as the experience was bad for the dog snd I couldn't trust them any longer. He avoided his crate at home for a week after this as it was traumatic for him. He since has gone in his crate by himself but no thanks to petco! Extremely disappointed and furious with petco and won't go there for anything anymore ever! And can not bring him there as he will relate it to his experience! read more

5 star review just because i adopted my little baby hamster from here, in which i love so much! It's a pet store. Smelly but filled with cute creatures. You can bring your dog in this store! They also have grooming here. If you have a small animal that you can no longer take care of this location will take it from you and help it find a new home! If I could give this location no stars, I would. I went in there with my girlfriend last night looking to buy a guinea pig. She was rude when we asked to hold him to see if he was comfortable with us. Then when we started asking questions about equipment she rushed us and asked if we were buying him or not because she had customers who needed to buy mice. What in the actual hell? One, there were other employees, someone else could've helped them, and two, she chose a $2 mouse sale over what could've been a $160 sale. She made us so uncomfortable we left. She was so rude. We will never go back there. Plus when she took the little guy back from me, she manhandled him and practically threw him back into his cage. I was very dissatisfied. read more

I really only bother writing reviews when I've had a great experience. This review is just for the grooming services here. I'm brand new to the area and while I usually prefer to go to an independent place, my dog desperately needed a haircut to cope better with 90 degree heat. The groomer here is a lovely lady named Arshae who my dog loved and felt comfortable with right away. Arshae took the time to ask me thoroughly what kind of cut my dog needed and gave out a warm and calm presence. My dog got what is one of the best grooming jobs ever. I go in and ask for directions to where they were holding vaccines within the store . Her lazy directions were over there on the other side . What the hell does that mean . I tend to like this Petco better than the Petsmart next door because it just seems less cluttered. They also have a better selection of dog treats, harnesses, and clothing. I always seem to catch a better deal on dog food here. They lack the customer service that Petsmart seems to have and grooming salon isn't very inviting. read more

I am commenting on just the Grooming Department right now. We love Heather!! My 2 dogs (a Golden Retriever and a Bichon/Yorkie) have been going to her for the last couple of years. She genuinely cares for them & they look forward to seeing her. Not to mention, they look beautiful when they are done. Be Very Careful taking your dog to this store they are unprofessional and the services suck I had my dog groom here and they injured him and instead of just stating that nipped him which sometimes happens they told me to take him to vet as he had ear infection,. I do as any responsible pet owner would I took him well low and below he was clipped in ear which caused bleeding. I contact store and was reimbursed but when calling to make another appointment was advise my dog could no longer be groomed in there store. read more

This Place is a Joke!!!! My husband and I bought some hermit crabs there a week ago and 2 have already died, When we brought them back they refused to do anything about them. We were only trying to exchange it. The woman that was working the register was extremely rude and told my husband that there was nothing she can do and bold face lied to him and told him there was no way of knowing when they were purchased, which is not true because they can look up our P.A.L. acct with our phone number and what date they were purchased. Then had the nerve to tell my husband to look up the acct info on his own if he knew how. People like this woman should not be working with the public and Petco should feel ashamed that they even sell sickly animals to people. We will never go there again because of this girl that works there. Its a shame too because we have many pets and have spent a ton of money there for pet supplies. read more
