THE NEW GROOMERS SUCK. They cancelled our appointment on Monday saying they "were too busy". Don't they have their time planned out? They cancelled the day of btw. We rescheduled for Wednesday. We call saying we will be 5 MINUTES LATE (trying to be nice). They say "we have to cancel it, we are extremely busy either way". Hello? Don't you have it scheduled already? Haha like what? We finally take our dogs in today (Sunday). They say that they can no longer accept one of them for being a crybaby. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOGS HERE. I came in and asked for the specials. Me and my sister were told that I could do the 19.99 special which is the ONLY reason I booked. I thoroughly explained to them how i rescued this furry friend from a pretty messed up living situation and how I appreciate the special because I've been spending A LOT to make sure he's okay. I made my appointment and came back the next day. Just to be charged a total of $40.47 after service. I asked why and was told my dog was too old for that special. I asked if it could be honored because that's what I was told AND the only reason why I booked and she declined multiple times. Just for my dog to still be damp, loose hair and dandruff all over him and he smells like wet dog. He doesn't smell like he was just given a BATH. IM livid. So I strolled into this Petco in North Aurora and oh boy did they have some nice fish. Aside from some nipped fins and overcrowding of aquariums, the fish looked stellar. I was looking for some South American cichlids, and wasn't disapointed. I bought three fancy Angels , two blue rams, and three Jack Dempsy fish. Upon inspection of the fish after netting, it was noted that the operculum of one angelfish was mishapen, a classic sign of inbreeding. Two angelfish did not survive the night. ALL of the other fish are thriving. I have a 55 gal with two box filters, Aqueon and Tertra. I constantly check water samples and do regular water changes. When the sales associate questioned me about my setups, I replied I currently have 4 tanks. The fish I bought went into the 55 gal to join two mature angelfish, 3 Cory cats, and a mini pleco. I mentioned the mishapen operculum and the sales associate said the fish could be returned if it fied. Upon returning the next day, I presented the dead livestock and receipt. I wanted to replace the livestock, not a monetary refund. I was escorted to the fish tanks, and the sales associate starts giving me the third degree. "What kind of tank? Do you have a water sample? How many fish in the tank?" I answered all these questioned yesterday upon my initial purchase. The sales associate was not nice, had an attitude. I replied, "What difference does it make? I want to replace the fish I bought yesterday." The reply was "I have to know. I do not want the fish mistreated or abused." Followed by, "I do not have to sell you a fish!" My money was credited to my account. I found out the sales associate helping me in this instance was THE MANAGER! Two nice sleeves of green ink on both arms with skulls and other questionable figures. And then I remembered...about a year and a half ago I bought a fish. A hybrid retail/rainbow shark mistakenly advertised as a pure bred redtail shark. Anyway, upon the netting of the redtail, I remarked, "I hope he likes his new tank." To which the sales associate declared, "the fish is whatever it identifies as." Oh boy, here we go! Now I see the light. Heterosexual straight white men are not welcomed at this Petco. The manager told me herself as I walked out of the store. Passive aggressive does not quite sum it up. I called the customer service line on the website...offshore in the Phillipines. Needless to say, regardless of what Dee from the islands told me, no one from corporate called me. To sum it up, if you are of a type that likes alternative lifestyles, you are welcome at the Petco in North Aurora. I felt degraded by the manager, she was admonishing me in front of other customers. All because I did not agree with her initial interrogation of my fish keeping abilities. I have to add I am college degreed in biology. Ichthyology was very interesting. Loved Zoology. I do not like tyrants, wherever I run into them. And I do not like being treated shabbily. Again, alternative lifestyles welcome. it really comes down to what you expect from this store. I've brought my dog is to have his nails clipped, and it usually works out fine. I was not too happy the time he bled on my car seats coming home because they clipped one too deep, but that was only once. Likewise with fish supplies, they have good sales and a decent range of chemicals. I did find ich in my tank after only buying fish from them and the last time I went shopping for fish, I turned around and left when almost every tank had a dead fish in it. read more

Rosary, the manager yesterday was amazing and so, so helpful! I was supposed to have an eighth grooming free and when I went to Ring out, it wasn't coming up even though I had talked to Customer Service on the 14th to go over it and they told me to show them in my Petco app. Still didn't come up. Rosary contacted Customer Service and after five minutes of frustration for her, she just gave me the free grooming. Now that is Customer Service! She was amazing and I highly recommend going into the store as the manager meant and the staff are amazing! read more

I brought my senior dog in for a bath this week and was called 10 minutes after leaving to be told his small feet got stuck in the grate they stand on for the bath, his feet were hurt in the process, and while trying to get him out they say he "bit his own ear" and his ear was bleeding profusely. HIS EAR IS NOT EVEN LONG ENOUGH TO REACH HIS MOUTH. The female manager rolled her eyes and tried to shrug it off as an accident. When I returned to get my other dog, the other associate was much more friendly and offered to pay for the vet bills. Not sure why an associate had the guts to say that but the manager was too proud to admit fault. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR PETS. You can also buy prescription flea, tick and heartworm prevention products. They set up shop near the back of the store on the right side. You just have to go over there and check in with one of the Luv My Pet staff who will give you a form to fill out. The line was a bit disorganized without clear signs of where to go, but you can just ask. First off, be prepared to wait a very long time. I was there for about 2 hours. I brought my cat in for a vaccination and I was the only one with a cat. There were about 7 people in line ahead of me, all with dogs. One was barking non-stop which caused some of the other dogs to chime in. I wish they had a take-a-number system or something so that I could spend the time I waited in line shopping in the store or just being away from barking dogs. You'd think this is something Petco would also want. The "clinic" was locating in an aisle consisting of a couple of tables. With the openness to the table and surrounded by dogs, I would not recommend the clinic for cats. Mine was very scared. The doctor (there was only 1) was very nice and you can tell she loves animals. The 3 year rabies vaccine and Kane county tag ($25) came out to $47. Cheap, yes, but that was a long time to wait. read more

This location is always clean and the sale associates are always very helpful. They typically have cats and kittens up for adoption and are eager to tell you about each animal if you have any concerns or questions. I may adopt a cat or kitten soon. I am not quite sure about my decision just yet. If I decide to do so I plan on going through Petco. They use Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary and you can submit an application to adopt a pet. read more

I knew he had matting in places and she said she might have to go a bit shorter because of it, but would keep the length on his face and overall as much as possible. No phone call or communication about any change suggested, and when I picked him up he was completely shaved down to the skin. I have shears and could have done that myself instead of being charged 100 dollars for this horror show. Avoid like the plague. read more

I see alot of negativity about Petco on social media, but it must be store to store...because our local Petco is nothing but perfect. The staff are the nicest, most helpful people you could ever meet, i've never had a complaint. The training sessions for our puppies were amazing. They have regular free puppy socials and other programs as well as great sales and savings. This is just my 2 cents, Petco is the place to be for our puppies. read more

We used to shop at the Petco up Randall Road in Geneva for our dog food, cat litter and used their self-wash every month. When this branch opened closer to our home, I was very happy because of the convenience. My first few visits really changed my mind. The first time we went in, we were using the self wash. After we were done, I took the dog into the store to look around while my wife paid. While I was walking arround I was approached by an employee who grabbed my dog (without permission) and went on to scold me that I was using a pinch collar incorrectly. Now this is news to me since we've trained our dog for years at the German Shepherd Dog Training Club of Chicago in Hanover Park. They taught us how to use the pinch collar - suffice to say I think I trust the trainers and club members more than a random Petco employee. But to her the collar was "too tight" and "he was getting pinched constantly while he walks". I'm not going to go into the proper use of a pinch collar here, but it was fitted correctly and there was no pressure on the collar at all - my dog heels properly without me correcting him. Now, I don't know if this employee has a crusade going against pinch collars - I know some people don't lke them. But if you're an employee at a pet store you'd better keep your freaking opinoins to yourself. Plus - I'm not sure about this, but later I tried to find out who this employee was so I could write a letter to Petco Corporate about the incident and I think the person was actually a manager. Huh?! Great customer service there. Although I was upset at this incident, there's more. The third time we brought our dog in for self wash was right after they had enacted a policy that they needed the dog's immunization records. Now, you'd think that if they were going to do this, they would at least notify owners who use the self wash, or at the least put up a sign. Nope. So, here we were in our shorts and t-shirts in the middle of winter with a bundle of towlels, soap, ear solution, cotton squares and our 75lb Shepherd - we even had him in the tub and ready to go when an employee said, "we don't have your immunization record on file". Our response - "we didn't know we needed one - we've been using self wash for years". Employee, "yea, it's a new rule - we need to have it before you use self wash". So instead of doing the logical thing of having us bring it next time, they refused to let us continue. So we had to pull the dog out of the tub and take all our stuff back home (because who carrys immunization records with them?) This was the last time we used self wash. Based on our few visits at this Petco branch and the horrible experience we've had with the employees there, we do not patronize that store or, frankly, the Petco chain anymore. We were very happy to see Pet Supplies Plus also open a location in the area and that store gets all of our business now. I hope this Petco branch alienates enough customers and is eventually driven out of business - stores with this type of customer service deserve to not exist. read more

Everyone in the salon was great. The dogs had been sprayed by a skunk. I have a large, medium and a small dog and they were able to squeeze us in and get them smelling better and looking great!!! Thank you guys so much for taking care of my kids and helping my nose sleep better. read more

This is my favorite Petco location in the area, I've been to several locations and no one is up to par except with this location. This location is always very clean and well organized. Other locations I've gone in to, it has smelled and looked dirty and I can't find certain items on the shelf. They always have sales going on and great coupons from their food reps. This location has a large variety of fish tanks that look nice and clean every time I come in, including their animals and reptiles. They have occasional cats up for adoption and adoption events that are there once or twice a month. The staff is the friendliest and they really want to engage in a conversation and they really do care about helping you get what you need. I've had better experiences here than any other pet store out there so thank you for making myself and my pets happier than ever! read more

Last time I went to this pet store I wanted to purchase a pet mouse. It took 45 minutes! I waited at least half of that just for someone to help me at all.There was no one even at the cash register! If I didn't have a specific mouse in mind I would have definitely taken my business elsewhere! The only reason they get two stars is that 1) while I was walking around I noticed that the animals there were all very clean and had water, the fish looked healthy, and the store was pretty clean. And 2) There was a person that worked there a ways back (I hear that he has since quit) that knew a lot about fish that I spoke to on a different visit. read more

I just had the worst experience Everrrr using this new Vetco vaccination program that used to be known as LuvMyPet.. Line was quickly out the door as they are wayyyyy understaffed with only one vet performing the services.. BEWARE you will be standing in line for hours. I arrived at 9:50 before they open at 10am. I just got out of the place 1:20. I Visited the Web site in hopes of leaving them my feedback. Guess what they do not want feedback as they do not allow for customer comments such as this. They only post positive feedback ONLY. NEVER ever trust a company that does not post the bad with the good. Thank goodness for YELP as they allow customers to tell the truth about some of the fly by night companies who are only interested in generating income and could care less about their processes. This new group is so out of touch that in my opinion they will never last as most people in line with me were furious and all stated this was the last time they would ever use this program again.. Cost savings is minimal as they have jacked up their pricing for all services. TRUST ME NEVER AGAIN. Everrrrrrrrrrr read more

Today's visit to Petco for first time with my skittish German Shepard. It went well at first even though there were many dogs and people in the store. My dog barked whenever she heard the other dogs and occasionslly when she encountered another person. I was able to just move her along telling her no bark and distracting her. Then I'd make her sit when we got to a new area and give her a treat for listening. I was able to get almost all my goods before i encountered a well meaning but problematic employee. I should note i was with my 6 year old daughter and had a cart full of stuff including large bag of dog food so too heavy for my small child to navigate. I have one item left to get at front of store and I'm out with a relatively positive experience. I'm looking at the dog tags to replace the one that fell apart far too quickly for my other 6 month old weimaraner. When my GS spies an employee she clearly doesn't like and starts barking. My daughter is trying to be a big helper and get the scoopable dog treats herself so I'm stuck not being able to move the dog away from her perceived threat. The lady leaves. Good. No more barking and pulling despite other employees nearby. Then the lady returns and my GS once again starts barking and pulling away. The lady starts telling me about classes and why my dog is acting like she is and trying to throw treats to her. My GS really not caring about the treats which i had to point out repeatedly for her to even acknowledge them. Essentially making those treats seem to come from me now encouraging her behavoir?! My last straw was when the lady started telling me i shouldn't pull my dog and scold her and i should remove her from the threat. REALLY?! I did that just fine earlier until YOU came along and cornered me in the front of the store. Did she expect me to ditch my cart, 6 year old daughter and walk away to another aisle? Perhaps instead she should have better identified the WHOLE situation and realized that A) I managed to easily and properly manage my dog throughout the store with all the other employees, customers, dogs. B) I'm trapped at front of store trying to manage my 6 year old and 6 month old dog and heavy cart. No ability to just cater to the dogs needs so i had to reprimand and control her adding to her fear of this woman. The store employees I've dealt with in past are usually great! I really do like the store overall. However, this one employee has single handed caused me to not consider their training program and caused me to ultimately ditch picking out a new tag for my other dog just to avoid her. read more

Horrible customer service. I went to purchase a t5 light fixture for my fish tank and was quoted for 75 dollars on the phone. When i arrived i realized that they had quoted me for the wrong fixture. So i ended up paying 130 dollars!! When i told one of the employees about being quoted for the wrong fixture they replied with "oh" ... This is the third fixture that gas been purchased between me and my brother and none have worked so i have to take it back and deal with them once more. I will never purchase from this store again. They are unreliable and very undereducated about their job. No knowledge of pets whatsoever. I dont even understand how a "pet store" can hire people that dont know a thing about animals or products!!!! read more
