My appointment was cancelled without notice because I missed text messages I thought were simply reminders. There was an option first to cancel, which I did not press because that was not my intention. Subsequent ones came asking me to confirm or cancel,but I did not see u ntil later. There was one around 11 am of the day of my 1 pm appointment that said " Hey, are you coming." I did not notice any of these, nor subsequent texts that the appointment was cancelled until I appeared at 1 pm for the appointment. I was told there was a policy that the appointment would be cancelled, but I explained I did not know that and did not recall being advised of it when I booked in person a few days before. I have not had such an experience with other groomers. The groomer also insisted she had called me, but I later checked my phone for voice mails or missed calls and saw nothing from Petco. The worst thing, however, was the rudeness and condescension. I am 78 and was lectured about the text policy multiple times as if I were a child. I attempted to reschedule but did not understand what service packages included what and could not understand her diction easily as it was very regionalized. I do not have a hearing problem. She complained I had taken up 20 minutes of her time and again lectured me about the text policy. I did, frankly, lose my temper and told her she was being rude and I would not schedule with Petco again. I apologize to Petco for the time it took and my losing my temper. I felt truly broadsided by her attitude. No effort was made to apologize to me for any inconvenience. I was new to going to Petco for grooming, do not have a dog, as the dog belonged to a family member who needed the favor. A little training in customer relations, not managing or insulting, could go a long way. Hint,also: not everyone has the time to monitor their texts. A courteous phone call truly made could go a long way. read more

Great place for all things animals. I frequent this establishment for dog food & my pet needs. While it's NOT the only store I visit, I do make it a place to go. The store is so open, free to LEASHED pets, friendly staff, industry average pricing... PLUS they have a rewards program. Oh and did I mention, righhhhhttttt next door is an animal clinic. I must admit, it's NEVER A DULL A MOMENT HERE: As I got to the register, I noticed two young men purchasing an aquarium. I didn't see any fish, so their purchase was noticeably alarming. I did HOWEVER, see a small red & white box with small vent holes. Well I wondered what would comfortably fit inside... I looked and looked and never saw an animal and I just couldn't figure out what Petco could sell that'd be so tiny to comfortably fit in that box. Then I saw it... A SNAKE... A COLD BLOODED REPTILE... A LITTLE HISSER being held in the arms of one of the young men... I headed for the hills... Bye Felicia!!!! Soon they checked out & left yhr building, I returned to the register to get checked out myself... Can you say DONE!!!!! Grooming review: I took my dog here for an appt at 12:30pm on a Friday. It took about 3 hrs (picked up at 3:45pm)-- which is normal and what I expected! Jernice was absolutely amazing. She did exactly what we discussed and really showed love to my pup, Heidi. All the staff was very helpful and the check out process was smooth. I definitely plan to be back again. Petco's grooming prices are also less expensive than PetsMart for the same quality, if not better. Definitely a pro. read more

I took my dog in to get groomed. This was not his first time at the groomers but it was the first time we selected Petco for the service. He came home with both eyes SHUT. I called to ask the groomer if they made a mistake and got shampoo in his eyes. The groomer ASSURED me that she didn't. I took him back in and she ran out trying flush his eyes with something , I kindly asked her not to touch him. The manager was nice enough to refer me to the Vet next door and took care of the bill. The diagnosis was "EYE ULCER" but they had no explanation as to why, I felt they didn't want to elaborate because their somehow connected Petco. I left their Vet and went to my regular vet . My vet gave confirm that he did in fact have an eye ulcer due to CHEMICALS. We had to administer drops for over a week , his eyes didn't open for 3 days !!! I was a little apprehensive about bringing my dog to Petco, but the place I used to take her stopped offering grooming services. Well I was pleasantly surprised because they did a wonderful job. This was one of the cutest haircuts she's ever had. The ladies at the desk couldn't have been nicer, and I wish I had gotten the other lady's name. However, the groomer's name is Nadiyah. She was so sweet to my little dog and would recommend them highly for grooming. She got a full groom and got her teeth brushed there. Great job and we'll definitely be back. She was also ready at the time I was told when I dropped her off. Definitely a 5 star experience! read more

I'm so tired of going to this store and never finding what I need. Over the course of 8 weeks I've gone in looking for Blue Buffalo Senior blend dog food in a 15 lb bag. It is NEVER in stock. The 7 lb bag only lasts about two weeks, making my trips more frequent, and the 30 lb bag goes stale before my dog can eat it all. I've had two different clerks try to help/reassure me that they'll "flag" the item, "special order" the item etc, only to come in two more times not to find the item in stock. After this trip, I'm done. I'll be doing auto-ship with Chewy.com as these trips are a waste of my time. Additionally, all items are marked higher in store than online. They'll honor online prices, but only if you say something. Why not have all the prices the same?! I feel like they're ripping people off that don't know any better! read more

As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the staff as I passed them by. I picked out what I needed with ease and went to the register to pay. I didn't get the staff members name who rung me out but he was very friendly and helpful. You could tell he enjoyed his job and his positive attitude was contagious. My dog is a rescue who is very skittish of new people (especially men) so I'm also nervous to drop him off for grooming. I booked an appointment with DJ and told him that Cobu needs love and slow movements but other than that, he should be fine. I just got my boy back I could tell DJ loves what he does and truly enjoys working with animals. He made Cobu feel very safe and now I have a wonderful smelling German Shedder. This was the worst experience of my life!! I took my 5 month old puppy to get groomed here before I was to go on my birthday vacation and had a horrifying experience!!! I checked my 5 month poodle in at the grooming desk, discussed the length of cut I wanted and left. I get a call 10 MINUTES later from the manager stating there had been an incident and my puppy was crying so loudly it was affecting the other patrons in the store. So I was told that my puppy was in the upper kennel ( they are stacked on top of each other) and wiggled around and fell out the kennel and broke his leg. I returned to the store immediately and saw my puppy trying to walk without bearing weight to the effected leg. The manager then walked my puppy over to the VETCO side where he said the treatment would be no cost to me. Vetco tried to help the situation and place a splint on my puppy's broken leg but they wrapped it with a pee pad. I was Devastated, so hurt by the negligence that was displayed by the workers in the grooming department. This would have been my first time getting my puppy groomed there and will definitely be my LAST!! So now my puppy has to be filthy and uncomfortable wearing a splint and cast on his leg for the next 6 weeks. I will never set foot in the store again!!! read more

This review is for the Midcity location. I had my appointment for at least 3 weeks, 11:00 am on Saturday. I arrived early. Jernice, who I had really liked for prior grooming, seemed like she had just arrived also at 11:00 am. She told me it would take about 3 hours for my dog. Hearing nothing from her, I came to pick up my senior dog 3 hours later, Jernice motioned through the window he was not ready and it would be another hour; she was grooming another small dog. I thought my dog was drying from a bath. NO!, that was not the case. I returned after 4 hours to pick up my dog....guess what?? He hadn't been touched, let alone bathed, and had been in a crate for 4 hours. Jernice was grooming another small dog. Who makes appointments and waits for 4 hours to get service? Why did Jernice not call me to reschedule if she was so backed up? How many dogs did she schedule between opening hours of Petco and 11:00 am? I will NEVER return to Petco.....hear me..... NEVER!!!! So unacceptable and I'm so disappointed because I really thought Jernice was great and loved my dog. She could not have loved him if she left him in a crate for 4 hours!!! This is very cruel to a dog of 12 years old. He had to urinate for several minutes when I picked him up. Very thoughtless of this groomer. Did she make more money by doing smaller dogs first and making my dog wait? Do NOT take your pet in here for grooming. Be assured I will follow this up with Petco Corporate. I've been going to this Petco since I've moved in the area. I've had great experiences up until today. I had the nicest cashier set up a Petco rewards account for me and the vet right next door has been amazing to my cat. I spend my off days either needing to go there for certain items or just wanting to go there. Today, I walked in needing a filter for the water fountain my cat uses. I went into the section where I bought that fountain, but did not see any filters on the shelves. I made a loop around and noticed workers stocking and someone helping another customer. I decided to just wait it out at that section and make another loop around. I finally caught the attention of someone. They (their pronoun, so I'm being respectful) were the manager (I found this out from other employees). I asked them if everything was out on the floor. They said no. I told them I was looking for a filter. They said, they had pallets of boxes in the back. I mentioned that I was just going to buy another water fountain, but didn't really see that as the best choice as it was more of a joke. Their reaction was to tell me that I didn't need a filter even though "New Orleans water is s**t". It's basically a fish bowl and doesn't need a filter or it's a personal preference to buy a new one. So as a first time cat owner, my only option was buying a brand new water fountain or not putting one in specifically for that fountain. Even though, there were boxes in the back that may have it. I completely understand being understaffed and not wanting to take the time to even go open all the boxes or whatever boxes are there. I don't find it reasonable that I spent 69.99 for another fountain (this one had 3 replacement filters inside so I didn't have to worry about trying to find the filter) or my only other option was to not even put a filter because my pet doesn't need it. This is an opinion from them. The same way it's an opinion that I wanted to replace the filter and spend the money on just that. If they knew the water wasn't something they probably would drink, why would I use that too? Even if I bought and used filter or bottled water, doesn't the filter help with any hair or debris that may land in there? Which is why the filter is cleaned and changed every week or month or so? I have never written a review, but I would hope that as a pet owner I could go into an establishment where I buy everything for my fur baby, and the employees would care a little more about wanting what I think is best for my pet. Spending money is not the issue, but buying a brand new water fountain when my current one is completely fine doesn't make sense, when I could have just bought another filter for $8-10. read more

This Petco is spiffy, clean, and new. The shop is smaller than what I'm used to but they are well stocked and have a good selection for each animal. The employees are super friendly and have no problem helping you price match to the website which I find super refreshing! Left us stranded in back of store. Other helper whom he asked about item was dismissive and there was NO urgency in providing satisfactory customer assistance. I usually thoroughly enjoy visits to this petco, but today I decided to order food online and pick it up in the store because there was a small promotion in an e-mail I received. I placed the order and waited over an hour and a half. When I arrived to pick it up, I was abruptly greeted with, ID. So I provided my ID and the employee denied it twice, once looking at the wrong order, the second time because I used my spouses card, even though my name is on the account. Easy fixes and would be no big deal if she was in any way polite. She walked to the back to retrieve the food and then rudely stated, you only got an email that it was received. We haven't even picked it off the shelf yet. Customer service is my business and I would never treat a customer the way I was treated today. I frequent the Petco on N. Carrolton and I am so pleased with the customer service I receive from two employees, Keira ad Alex. They have helped me several times and their warm personalities and superior customer service is consistent every, single time! I usually visit the store 2-3 times a month to get live crickets and it is usually during the week, when they seem to only have 1-2 people staffed. Although the store is not extremely hectic, there's usually a handful of customers in the store or in line to checkout, which could overwhelm a person working alone. Obviously, my need for live crickets pulls them staff away from the register and it can be a little time consuming to grab 40 large, jumping crickets. A line can form at the register in the time it takes to grab my crickets and/or other customers can have questions for them, once they return from getting what I need. Needless to say, Keira and Alex return to not only myself, with a genuine smile, but they also tend to other customers the same way. Their genuine sense of wanting to help is a rarity in retail, and the world. It is very much appreciated and shouldn't go unnoticed! Negative reviews usually require some sort of "action" and the same should go for positive ones. I'm not sure how much weight my review holds, but a raise or bonus would be awesome AND appreciated for both of them.
