We came here for a dog tag for our basset hound and I found the process a bit annoying. They have lots of tags showing on display to purchase (which are then laser engraved) but the ones we picked were out of stock. The friendly staff then kept recommending multiple different ones over and over which we didn't want. We settled on one and I took it to the engraving station, but was told I had to pay for it first (fair). Then, you take it and scan the receipt into the computer and finally you can design your tag. It all is reasonable, but I wish it had been a bit more intuitive. That being said, the store has lots of fun things for pets including a dog biscuit buffet. Are they the best quality treats? Probably not, though from past experience I know that the cookies are actually diabetic cookies which can also be eaten by humans (don't ask!). This Petco actually gives hometown, old fashioned Pet store service when making a purchase , They honestly take care of their birds, small animals and reptiles and that reflects on the wonderful, healthy reptiles, birds and small animals I have purchased here for myself and my family. The staff is eager to please their customers and always ready to alert you of a savings . They actually take the time to show you the animal and review the care. The cashier, Kelly, was extremely rude when I asked about a coupon. She refused to listen to what I was saying and dismissed my past experiences. Instead of helping, she repeatedly told me to hurry up and finish my purchase just to get me out of her face. I asked several times for her to hear me out, but she showed no interest in assisting me. She even claimed she was the manager and that her way was the only way things worked. Her behavior was not only unprofessional but also disrespectful. THE WORST GROOM MY PET EVER HAD! Doesn't like how Alyson groomed my dog. Wanting to have my dog look great for a special occasion and specifically instructed her not to cut it very short. but instead she didnt listen to the owner and she cut my dogs hair as short as you can already see her skin. Hair is Unevenly cut. She cut her facial hair very short in the upper part of the nose making my dog look ugly. Been sending my dog for grooming into this location for a year now with Miranda, and Ive got no complaints. But after what happened. Definitely not going to allow Alyson to touch my dogs hair! Told me it was her job and she knew what she was doing. Tried to speak to manager and he called my dog aggressive because she had barked at him earlier when he turned a corner in front of us! My boyfriend took my dogs to get groomed, asking for a shortened even cut. One of my dogs, a schnauzer mix, came back patchy and bald, and the other, a petit basset griffon vendeen, came back with a buzz cut along the body and a bushy tail and bushy face (he is NOT a poodle) Neither cuts where what we asked for. The woman who groomed them claimed that he asked for "as short as possible so that he wouldn't have to come back" which is absolutely not what we would ask for, as we do not want our dogs to be BALD. When I called the manager was rude, but did offer to fix it, but how can you fix a bald dog.... my PBGV can be trimmed down to have a complete buzz cut, so at least his fur wont grow in stupidly. The manager hung up on me before the conversation was over. Unless you want a quick cheap cut with no care taken at all-- for your dog, don't come here. ***Bizarre staff, skip this location*** Stopped in to buy dog treats and saw a black moor goldfish in stock- staff member attempted to bag and sell the fish when a different staff member abandoned the customer she was helping to interrogate me about my fish-keeping conditions. I have an established 29 gallon tank with all the trimmings- currently housing two comet goldfish. The employee went off on me about how I can't add a third goldfish to my tank because I will be "slowly poisoning my fish" and I "won't be able to keep up with the care demand" (...I've been doing fine so far?). The employee stated she "refuse[s] to let Petco sell [me] that goldfish". She proceeded to all but chase me out of the store without me even making my original dog treat purchase. What the actual....? The original staff member apologized for the co worker as I was rushing for the door... but it was a pretty upsetting experience. read more

Do not buy animals at this store. They don't care about the condition of their animals' mental state or condition. It's profits over pets. I bought a guinea pig there. I had him for 2 weeks. I have had guinea pigs in the past and know how to handle them, but there was something seriously wrong with this one. He bit both my wife and I multiple times, breaking the skin and causing bleeding, when we tried to move him to clean the cage. I have had other pigs that we so friendly, they'd fall asleep on your lap. This one was obviously traumatized in some way, that Petco failed to recognize. When I took the guinea pig back, Petco's 20 something "experts" were quick to blame me with a litany of do's and don's on how to handle guinea pigs (all things I had done) which amounted to nothing more than a scolding directed towards me. They will blame you first. Never that they sold you a sick, either physically or emotionally, animal that should be off the market. I have had similar bad experiences buying fish there. One fish barely swam at all (we thought he was dead). He'd be VERTICAL with his head near the gravel, tail sticking up for hours!!! When I brought him back after a week, I was told by a 20 something empty head that I must have traumatized him! I bought a beautiful tank, plants, rocks, everything. Petco could not or would not admit they sell unhealthy fish. They begrudgingly return my money. I will never shop there again and you shouldn't either for your money. read more

So grateful I came here. We were in the process of adopting a puppy and I went to this store to see If they had the crate size I needed. I met Andrew (I believe he's the store manager), who assisted me in finding many other needed items. He's also a trainer and he happened to have a class he had to teach while I finished up my shopping. I observed part of the class and was impressed with his skills and the ability for the owners and dogs to complete their work. Shortly after our puppy came home, i signed up for a puppy class with him. It's been going great. When we arrive at the store, our puppy is so excited and seeks him out. He has a great demeanor, provides constructive feedback and is like the pied piper of dogs. My husband and son came to observe one of our classes and Andrew helped our son with his interactions with our pup and build up his confidence. I can't say enough good things. Andrew is a dog whisperer! While dog sitting my daughter's 4 year-old- rescue dog, Emma, I took her to the Latham store for an hour private obedience session. Andrew was the outstanding dog trainer. I almost cried by the time we left because Emma was so much calmer around other dogs. Issues I had battled with Emma were addressed and easy training instructions were modeled and practiced. Daily, I practice: Let Go, heel, and distraction techniques that we learned. Emma has responded so well to the training. She greets or ignores dogs she sees on our walks, leaves the cats alone when I say "Let Go," and is learning to walk better. It takes commitment on the part of the owner to practice daily, but the rewards are grand. Ask for Andrew at the Latham store if your dog needs private or group training. Thank you Andrew! read more

He weighs 6 pounds and is always in a good mood and doesn't bark. I was assured everything would be fine, they would take him right in and call when he was done. A half hour later I got a call that they couldn't get him out of the crate they put him in! He was panting and crying and snarling. I ran out of my cat's prescription food and needed a backup! A client recommended Blue Buffalo on Saturday and I was desperate this morning so I headed to Petco. Honestly I don't like chains and find them uber impersonal but I had a hungry 30lb Black Panther waiting for me so I decided to give it a shot. I wandered the isles and found Sean and he lead me to Blue Buffalo! Not only did he show me where it was he asked me about my cat's needs and was passionate about cats and had a ton of knowledge about cat food brands. Seriously! He thought about too much protein for my KP's kidneys wouldn't be good and said Blue was perfect. No fillers or grains! Corn YUCK! My Vet who charges me $300 for a check up gave me crappy food for over a year that only made my cat fatter! I will get to that review later...trust me. Sean had more knowledge and passion about animals than KP's DR who has every test and cost imaginable to man when you go there. Its time for a new VET and Sean needs a raise!!!! Checkout was polite and patient since I didn't have an acct. Only issue is there is no music and the staff agreed this was an issue for them as well. I left this Petco in total discuss, the manager needs to learn some respect for the customers. I brought my 5 year old daughter to their "small pets" event. She was super excited to go, she has been looking forward to this all week! When we got there at 1:30 P.M.(the event was advertised 1-3 P.M.), nothing was set up, AT ALL!! I asked if they were doing anything and the manager answered me with total attitude! This is a disgrace to this company because my daughter told me she NEVER wants to go back to Petco AGAIN!!! I have had hack jobs previous to finding my one true amazing groomer. Miss Jessica! I cannot rave enough about how much she pays attention to detail with my goldendoodle. From leaving his head fluff to exactly the length that I want to grooming in between his toes and cutting h is pretty little nails. She does it right every SINGLE time and I am so thankful for her! I am constantly telling people to book with Jessica only!! She doesn't amazing job! You can totally tell when people love what they do and she is it my friend!
