I've been pleasantly surprised with recent changes in this store. I come here often due to convenience. It used to be constantly cluttered with unpacked pallets and boxes. I frequently buy cat litter and supplies there, so it's always been easy enough to navigate. Most of the staff was generally friendly, but always seemed exhausted and spread too thin, so I used to avoid asking for help. Within the last few weeks I've seen huge improvement! There are no longer cluttered isles and hazards on the floor. Their is more staff to assist, and they aren't all running around trying to do 3 Hobbs. Seems like they were finally able to hire new staff. Keep it up PetCo! read more

Do not come to this location. I went in to asked about stuff I could put into my tank for my fish and they started saying we wouldn't recommend it since you have one fish and then he started complaining about how small my tank is even though it's one small fish that has been and good alive for 2 years he started saying I need to get a new tank and he said that my fish would pop open if I didn't switch. A while back I had went in to get a betta fish and tank etc. I was asking about more goldfish to add to a whole separate tank he starting saying I could not buy multiple of the fish I wanted bc they would die. The man with a long ponytail then got into an argument with me about goldfish and was being really disrespectful about the situation. We decided to put all the items back and leave. His coworke ( light skinned) and the man with a ling ponytail really need to pipe it down. The way they go about advice is very defensive and rude. I gave the a second chance and went back in but still they were rude. I don't recommend ruining your day with idiots. read more

We were in over the weekend to buy my son a long coveted betta. Petco had a nice selection of aquatic plants and a smaller but adequate selection of aquarium sculptures. My son was able to find a beautiful betta. We were checked out by Cole, who was very nice to my excited boy and made sure our fish was safely packed for his drive home. read more

I absolutely do not recommend this location to anyone. Their animals are in horrible condition. They have no knowledge whatsoever. Went to make a return and got 1/4 of what I should've got back. I would rather go out of my way and go three towns over ever go back to this location. read more

I ent to get shots done for my dog and I guess they have a 5 minute late policy, I ended up being 7 minutes late and they said I'd have to wait a hour. Sucks people can't work with eachother now a days. I live 30 minutes away and traffic always is hectic. read more

This is the place I usually go to get my parakeet food and other bird supplies. The staff is always pleasant and the store is clean and easy to navigate. It's very near to my house so it all works out rather well. I appreciate the discount toy bin as my dog chews up and destroys things rather fast. Being able to spend a couple of bucks for a new toy is perfect. read more

I went in to get my guinea pigs food. There is currently an Asian male Working there who was cleaning out the guinea pig cage. He had 5 guinea pigs in a box on the floor Next to him. He bent down and started to shake the box with the guineas inside of it very aggressively. He stopped when I turned around horrified at what he was doing. He the picked the box up and set it on a cart unstably where it could have fell it was on top of all kinds of Other things on the cart. I don't know what the reason was that he was shaking The box Like that seemed very strange and confusing why he was doing That knowing Guinea pigs are sensitive and Scared. It honestly looked abusive behavior to me. My stomach dropped I could not believe he was treating these Little animals like that. Horrified and extremely upset by what I seen today. read more

Made an appointment for my puppy, and when the time and date came, they called and asked if I could bring him an hour later. Then about 45 minutes before I was to take them, they called again and asked if I could bring him a half hour later. I showed up 10 minutes late after that and they refused to take my dog after they had me waiting over an hour and 45 minutes to begin with, they were so unfriendly and uncaring you would have to be crazy to get any kind of services done there!!! read more

Eugene was taking care of the carts in the parking lot and he also helped me pick out my glow fish. He was very knowledgeable with questions that I had about the fish and which fish that I can pair them with and what would look good in my tank. I saw him working in different parts of the store. He is a very hard worker and he gave me excellent customer service along with everybody else that he was helping. I had a very good experience at the store and definitely wanted to give a shout out to Eugene for all of his great work! read more

I've tried to give this store my business over the past dozen years, mainly because they have pretty good prices on frozen fish foods. If you know where the item you need is, and can find it and take it to the checkout counter, you can be in and out pretty quickly. But, they've frequently failed to provide even half-way decent customer service. I once purchased a new heater for my aquarium and it failed after several weeks. When I took it back, the associate I spoke to said "yeah, those only last a few months anyway, so I can't help you". Fortunately I spoke with a manager who DID agree to issue a refund on the defective product. More recently, I wanted to buy some special aquarium substrate for my planted tank, and the website said that it was in stock at that store, and I could pick it up. When I went there, the SAME associate who pointed to the empty shelf and said "If we have it, it would be there". I told her the website said it was in stock, ready to pick up at this location, and she said "I can't tell you why it's not there". So I tried to order it, and once again, it was said to be in stock, ready to ship. When it arrived, the box contained a packing slip with the correct aquariuum substrate listed....and a box of kitty litter! (see attached photo) I drove to a nearby PetSmart store, and they actually had what I wanted on the shelf, I was greeted by a smiling associate who asked how I was, how my day was going, and who helped me check out quickly and pleasantly. The difference between Petco and PetSmart could not be greater. I could have saved a LOT of time and frustration if I had went to PetSmart first. Waste of time. Came out for a product that their website said they had in stock, the only one in West Denver. Come to find out they don't even carry aquaculture products, and they're the smallest store in the state. I tried to explain my misunderstanding, pointing out the website is giving wrong information, and the cashier starts trying to argue with me about it. There's always something for every pet. At this location you can view cats and kittens too. Hubby's niece and I stopped here to get something for her pet. I got something for her dog and our pet Sandy. We got a chance to a frog tomato? I thought that was interesting. A very big place but saw only one staff at the counter. Boonie a employee denied us a fish because we don't have a 20 gallon tank... our tank is pretty damn big and we've had that type of fish and it did not get huge at all, it survived over a year. My biggest complaint is do you think a fish living in a pet store dying in 2 weeks unbought is really going to have a better quality of life than living in someone's home? /half the fish in there were dead anyway. If somebody wants to buy a complicated fish unless it's something tropical I don't really understand why you would deny them. read more

I should have read the reviews before I came here. As others stated the two women who work the fish are beyond rude and simply believe you will kill any fish you get from them because you are inept. While I love the passion for animal life automatically assuming every single person does not know what they are doing is insane! Worst customer service EVER!!!! I was 10 mins late for my appointment due to traffic, and explained it to the woman behind the desk. She was rude, didn't care what my needs nor would she allow me to speak to the veterinarian when asked. I was told they didn't have time for me. After asking what her problem was she finally got off her ass from behind the desk and called them. All to say they were just as rude. All I have to say white surpremisty at its finest!!!! I stopped in one day on a whim to check on some bird supplies. They were having some kind of adoption shindig called puppy palooza so I got to pet what appeared to be the last little puppy and then got a little sad because I couldn't take her home. Then I also noticed they have a nice little quiet room niched away for cat adoptions as well. Once I found the bird section I proceeded to faun over the budgies and the cutest and sweetest little conure I ever did meet (and got sad because I couldn't take him home). I noticed how clean their habitats were. Yes, it was a typical bin o budgies, but still amazingly well tended. All of the birds also had fresh food to eat as well. I noticed kale and orange slices. That's not typical of a big box pet store so I was pretty impressed. Then I went and played with the fish, turtles, snakes, mice and ferrets...wow! They have a lot of animals here! Oh, look. They even have a couple of little pythons! I kind of felt like I was in a really clean zoo. I was also very impressed by the staff in the aquarium section. Very knowledgable, indeed. So I grabbed my cuttle bones, passed on the new tank for the beta and headed up to the registers where I watched the doggies getting groomed through the glass wall and petted other people's pets while I waited in line. When I finally got up to the register I had to stifle a laugh because the very nice young lady couldn't stop talking to me like I was a small fuzzy animal. Too funny. read more

I will never go back to this store after another one of her attitudes rose up on one of my recent purchases. It's sad because I have been going to this store for 10 years, but last week was the last time I'll step foot in there. I had my dogs vet there and groomed her there and she wont be going back for those services either. Where do I start. This place has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I came in to purchase a fish that I had previously called about. After 15 minutes of trying to find an employee who could retrieve the fish I am approached by an employee who, as condescending as humanly possible, starts asking me about my tank. I assure her I have an established 50 gal tank and I have owned the fish before to which her reply was " if you don't like the questions I'm asking you then leave" are you serious Petco? We found a cat we wanted to adopt, but they had no adoption forms when the time came. The assistant manager who was helping us told us to call in the morning and speak to Monica (the store manager) to adopt the cat and we could take her home, he seemed to want no part of the cat adoption. He said he would leave a note and explain what happened for when we called the next day. I did as instructed, and the store manager over the phone just said with a huge sigh of what seemed annoyance "you'll just have to come on Friday for the adoption fair and get her then." She was very short and annoyed that we wanted to give a cat a home, which is confusing seeing as that's part of their job? With the way adoption fairs work, who knows if we will even be able to get her, very disappointed in the whole experience. Edit: My husband, who didn't know I called, called a little later and asked about the cat and the same woman said "I told the other lady this already, you just have to come on Friday when they are here." How rude. Another update; The cat was adopted out to another family on Thursday, the day before we were told we could go adopt her. The rescue stated Petco was allowed to adopt cats out without them there; the two Petco employees stated otherwise. No one ever took our names/numbers to even attempt to help us. Either something shady was going on and the cat was being "held." Or no one seems to care about the entire process. So sad. Lost my business. read more

Honestly there's nothing more important than good and friendly service to me. I can overlook a lot of things about a retail spot, but if the service is good I'll be happy. The service at this location is consistently poor. Generally the employees are apathetic and unfriendly but this last experience was over the top. We had a return and not only was the fella rude and difficult but he also threw the perfectly good stoneware items in the garbage right in front of us. Wasteful. These were ceramic feeding crocks so they would be easily sanitized of even sterilized, and if they didn't want to resell them they could use them for store use. The interactions with people working here are really mixed. Most of the time I go in, the people working are perfectly fine. However, one experience really soured me on this location. The day before I adopted my cat, I went in to buy supplies so he could come home to a cozy place. The clerk seemed to have a lot to say about all of my purchases (mostly negative). Eventually, I mentioned that I didn't have the cat yet and was headed to the shelter tomorrow to adopt one. This led to a tirade about how all shelter pets all have behavioral issues. Well, guess what- I went and adopted the sweetest cat ever, and have had no behavioral issues in over half a year. And that toy that was "a waste of money"- his second favorite. I really only go to this location when there's something I can't find anywhere else, and usually, they don't have it anyway. Called them up by chance to see if they could groom my 1 year old cocker spaniel... they said yes and that of course they knew how a cocker haircut should be. 5 hours later i go pick him up :( They had shaved his entire body yet left his head normal length... so it's a really skinny dog with a black mans fro. I love this Petco, especially the aquatic section. April, I think her name is, is amazing with her knowledge of fish. Ponytail man is also a great guy to ask any aquarium questions to. He's a little less friendly than April, but they both are a wealth of information. They also stock some more unique fish here, and will special order ones for you if they don't have what you're looking for. I'm a sucker for catfish, and this store has been able to supply us with some real weirdos. I love it! Throw in decent prices, a good return policy, and great location, and this is easily my favorite place to buy fish stuff. read more

After being ignored for almost a half hour, and attempting to find what I needed myself, I left and went to Chuck & Don's, where I was promptly and cheerfully provided with excellent customer service while shopping for pet stuff. Grooming: Spent $150 here on the furminator treatment for my 60# Australian Shepherd & Lab mix dogs. Our lab was throwing hair before we even walked all the way to the car. I have been told by other groomers that Petco/ Petsmart just stick your dog in a kennel with a cage dryer for an hour or more as opposed to brushing & drying. All they did was loosen the under coat. Our brand new car was covered. Don't go here unless you have a tiny frou frou dog that needs it's hair did! read more

I came to the store in a tight spot; I was moving my dog into an apartment for the first time--already a stressful and expensive undertaking--and was nervous about the expense of the necessary bark collar and kennel. One of the employees (Latiqua) came to my rescue and got me just what I needed to make my dog as comfortable as possible at a fantastic deal. I was so grateful for how helpful she was and how much money she saved me, I was tearing up. I figured I'd give a good yelp review instead of hugging her at the cash register. Ambiance // About a half an hour after the store opened today, I came in for a quick purchase, only to find no one at the registers... this is unacceptable for a business and I went instead to Pet N' Stuff. I've had a cashier lecture me for buying my puppy wet food since he wasn't eating his kibble. She warned that he would only want to eat wet food like her dogs. To me, that's her own experience and I'm not paying to be lectured (I already do that as a college student). Turns out my puppy had parvovirus and the wet food was the only thing he found palatable to help him survive the illness. Puppy-specific // There are several puppy toys and diets. However, they have very few natural diets and treats. The grain-free puppy diet I liked (Merrick's) was completely out of the small size last time I went in. Return Policy // There is a 60 day return period (excluding live animal purchases). Even though there is a rewards system that is connected to your phone number, they are unable to look up receipts connected to the rewards. They can be a bit rude when it comes to no receipt returns (luckily found my original receipt), otherwise pleasant since I've had to return a few toys. TL;DR // I plan to avoid going back since Pets N' Stuff is only 5 minutes away from the Petco location with similar hours, better staff, and greater product availability. Also you have to pay at least $100 to get $5 off your purchase at Petco versus using Pets 'N Stuff's app for just 4 visits (no minimum dollar amount). read more

This time I went to Petco to groom my 3 pups: 2 short haired dogs and 1 medium length. I made the appointment on the phone and asked the lady what are the requirements since this will be my first time taking my dogs over there for grooming. The lady was very friendly and told me that I don't need to bring the rabies certificates as long as all my dogs have the rabies tags on them. This truly simplified the process. I don't have to bring their medical records, I just need to show them the tags. So different than PetSmart where they REQUIRED physical rabies certificates and REFUSED to acknowledge the rabies tags. So I went there and dropped off my pups to the grooming center at 9 am and the lady said that they will be ready by 2pm. I picked them up at 2 pm and they all looked so pretty. Soft and shiny coats, nails nicely trimmed and they brushed their teeth pretty good too. My medium-length haired dog is now about 2/3 the size before - thanks for the de-shedding procedure. I was almost choking when I found out how much I needed to pay for them, but it's worth it. My pups smell good and they looked happy. Thanks again for another great service, Petco! read more

They always say just to bring the food back in if your dog gets sick. We give them permission to track our purchases through our phone number. Then conveniently when I need a transaction to be found for a return because I don't have the receipt. They conveniently can not find the purchase. They question you as if you stole the bag! When you show them your bank statement with the purchase at their store, they get rude. There is no reason to shop here only reasons not to. Their reviews speak for themselves. You're a pet store. People love their pets! You should have perfect reviews. This falls on management! I'll never shop here or any other Petco again. Good job! read more

The Co of Pets and it's just fine with me. They have pet grooming and based on what I overheard from owners in the store, they do a good job (no personal knowledge though). They are well equipped with all kinds of pet supplies, as well as animals to purchase/adopt. They have 4 large cats there for adoption, as well as chihuahua dogs on special today. So cute! read more

My little boy is quite skittish around new people and the last place we took him to was a disaster so we came here. Velvet made him look fantastic after a bath and hair cut and it must have gone well as they got done fairly quickly and he didn't seem scared or upset at all the rest of the time we spent in the store after his grooming session. He simply wouldn't let Velvet get to too many of his nails (which I kind of expected and let her know beforehand) but she did get some of them trimmed!
