Terrible customer service, lack of organization and bugs everywhere, and no not crickets, ROACHES. Rude employees, I had a recent encounter with an employee, I do not know her name as she was not wearing a name tag but she had frizzy faded blue hair and was shorter, with glasses, gave me a terrible attitude, and gave me a snarky remark as well, in my 46 years of living never once had I ever encountered an employee with such disregard towards a customer only asking for help, it was almost as if she pawned me off towards another associate and had me wait around 18 minutes for help. I did not appreciate her attitude and I wish the store would hire people who want to work instead of rude lazy employees, 1/10. NEVER AGAIN. I am absolutely disgusted with her behavior. Staff is unfriendly and unprofessional. I was waiting to walk down an aisle to grab something and two employees were talking, acting like they didn't see me standing there waiting. Petco in chambersburg has a nice selection of corals and saltwater fish, wanted to check out Hagerstown and see what they had, what a waste of time. I've never seen such filthy saltwater tanks and whoever takes care of them should be ashamed. I wish I would have taken pictures, but avoid going here, Chambersburg Petco is way better. read more

I am unable to have my cat groomed; Petco is lying about cat grooming. I am disabled and really need my cat to be taken care of as a result I am paying hundreds of dollars to have my service animal which so happens to be a cat groomed as my immune system cannot have an animal that is not cleaned and well groomed. There should be a law against this I have considered suing for damages. read more

I usually am so excited to go into Petco, especially with my children, but after a few unfortunate encounters, I have to say I regret ever coming to this place. All the animals look half dead, they reek from a mile away. Upon entering the store, you can even smell how dirty the ferrets are. there is one 'manager' in particular. he is usually hanging around the aisles of the store moving product. I ask him for help, and he throws me off to another worker when they clearly already seem understaffed. the fish tanks look god awful, not to mention and I just found quite a few dead fish in their tanks. this store needs people who genuinely care about their animals, or need to shut down. it's irresponsible. read more

I have a few things I would like to say about this store. Some of the staff is extremely helpful whenever I am in, while others are rude. I have been to several Petco locations, and this one by far takes the cake on the rudest/laziest employees. There is one employee specifically, I believe he is in management, with a thick southern accent. Any time that I have come in for help, he rolls his eyes, he has a strong attitude, and doesn't seem to want to help out the guests in this store. My girlfriend and I were there a few days ago asking for help with aquatics, and his entire demeanor was rude. He wanted nothing to do with us. All we wanted were fish. Another time we wanted help with our dog food, and there was a girl there. Again, we are unsure of her name as no one there wears their name tags. But she had blue hair. We tried to ask her for help, and we felt bad bothering her as she seemed busy working on something in the aisles. But there was no one else to ask for help. When we did, she seemed very unattentive and unwilling to help us, and gave us attitude as well. Then while a line of customers were piling up at the front of the store, the poor cashier was all alone, she did nothing to help her out or other customers out on the floor. I have worked in retail before, not a pet store but a clothing store. Whenever a cashier needs help we would always have someone go up to help with the line. I found the way she handled that to be absolutely insane. I am not trying to be disrespectful, but I do wish that the employees here actually cared about their guests instead of making it out to be a "chore". You guys are here to do your job, if you don't like it then get out of retail. All we wanted was a little bit of positivity and guidance. Anyway, if anyone is looking to shop at this location, I truly don't recommend it if you need help with products or animals. If you're looking for fish near the area, try Appalachian Retiles and Aquatics. The workers there are very sweet, knowledgeable, and care for their customers, unlike this petco. Not all employees at this petco are like this, but a majority of them are. We will most likely not be shopping here anymore, and moving our business elsewhere. read more

I recently bought a Zoomed enclosure, this item had broken glass on the bottom and I wanted to exchange it for a non broken item. The green haired manager, quickly showed that she has no idea how to do her job. This manager attempted to make be pay $15 more since the price on Wednesday was different than what I paid on Monday. This manager would not allow me to exchange the broken item for the other item without paying even more for something that I had already bought. I then requested a refund once it became obvious that the manager was not going to help me with a simple exchange. This same manager then proceeded to offer me a refund at the higher price that the item was selling for that day. I explained that I only paid $63.59 because the item was on sale on Monday. After explaining this unqualified manager, who lacks the appearance of professional worker, green hair should be against company policy, especially for managers. I was finally able to leave with a refund, despite saying that I wanted the item. The inability to do the job, which an exchange of a broken item for a non broken one should be covered on the first day of training, the fact that this green haired manager couldn't be bothered to know how to do her job properly, you have lost a customer as a result of this person's lack of common sense when it comes to doing their job. I will not have someone attempt to charge me more because they don't have a basic understanding of how a broken item, with the receipt is supposed to be done. read more

We went in search of a saltwater tank and various equipment for such. Mike was amazingly helpful and super friendly. All of the staff was. The store itself was a little messy with stock carts out of place, but that's the only negative thing I can say. The shelves were neat, and stock was plentiful. I used to be a PetSmart consumer, but I'll definitely be a return shopper. The service was top notch! read more

This location is very nice. Very open and room to get around in the isles. They have a nice large selection of products for most animals. I have a large dog, and they carry very large bones here which is great for my dog. They are a little expensive, but I haven't found anywhere else that sells them this large. So...... supply and demand..... Most of the employees are pleasant. I have had a couple who don't seem very thrilled about their job. Maybe that's a training issue or maybe they are having a bad day. Either way that could be addressed. I have never used the grooming service. I probably never will. I have read the reviews and had a bad experience previously with PetSmart. So I will probably always take my pets to dedicated pet salons. They also have an app and rewards program. If you are going to do much shopping at Petco, I recommend using both if you can. read more

I don't go to the Hagerstown location often but the few times I do the staff is usually nice. Although I feel like they try not to help you/serve you. Granted I usually go on week days in the evenings so they are more than likely just ready to go home. Still prefer Petco over Petsmart. read more

I took my 12 lb beagle here for a nail trim. She doesn't like when i attempt to do is so she whines and goes to bite but never does. I took her here and they have two neck leases on her and then said they refuse to clip her because she tried to bite. So i asked if they have an e-collar or muzzle for situations like this, and was told no so i left. Young girl working there seemed as if this first time clipping a dog, might need a new career. I called Petsmart explained the situation, they put an e-collar on her and got nails trimmed in 5 minutes. I will never shop at this Petco again. read more

Before I would probably let something like this go, but I CANNOT! Previously i had taken my dog to the PETCO in Hagerstown, MD for a groom. Due to my dog's anxiety & aggression towards being shaved he was not able to get groomed. After being called to pick him up, I was then given false information from the stylist stating that if I could get him a prescription to calm him down, beings though he's hormonal, I could bring him back. She also stated when we were leaving that they would work with him after I apologized for his behavior that day... her words were "aww we'll work with him" . We did have a conversation about possibly taking him to his vet to be groomed as an option, but never that we could not bring him back if he was under any medication, SHE SUGGESTED THE MEDICATION & TO BRING HIM BACK WHEN we HAD DONE SO. My boyfriend is my whiteness as he was there when she gave us this information. I went through lengths to give my dog a prescription just to have her say that he's sedated and they could not take him. For future references PETCO please have your employees tell all pet owners that the company will not groom their animals if they are aggressive towards grooming. Please advise them to not educate where there is no knowledge. This could have been alleviated if we were told that they could not take him because of aggression, but we were not. we were told to medicate my dog, which the employee now denies. I do understand what the policy is NOW, but we were never mad aware of this policy then. read more

This place is the worst! The fish tanks are disgusting. I bought three fish, and only one lived through the night! And now my fish all have ich! The next day I go in to get medicine to treat it, and all the lady who worked there wanted to do was argue with me about what type of aquarium I had! Maybe the workers she worry more about the fish they are selling that are sick instead of trying to argue with their customers! I will never go here again! I always go into this store with a mission; locate science diet weight management dog food for 'toy' breeds, pay and hopefully make it back to work before my 30 minute break is up. I always have gift cards that I purchase through the Gyft app for my smart phone and every time I go in I have to educate the cashier on how to process it. I'm sorry; I'm a customer, and I shouldn't have to repeat that I'm using digital gift card and ask them to select the gift card option on their register to process the sale. Lack of training is creating a poor experience for me and if it wasn't for the fact that my friends and family seem to think this is a store I prefer, I'd go someplace else just for a better check out experience. read more

Do NOT buy fish at this place. From the many times I've been there, the fish are always diseased and there's usually a bunch of dead ones in the tanks. The entire store is overpriced and the things you need can be purchased cheaper at Petsmart. Not to mention, there never seems to be an associate around willing to help the customers. My husband went to purchase Frontline Plus for our casts and was charged $109.00 on Black Friday for three capsules. This was after giving the cashier his Petco card. I went to complain about the extremely high price and the cashier helping me then told me we should have received the $59.99 Black Friday sale price with our Petco card. (We did not.) We went home and checked online for the price of Frontline Plus for cats and saw the prices were anywhere from $35.00 to $49.00. Petco is certainly running a scam on both regular and Black Friday prices. read more

This review is for the puppy Level 2 training program. There were only 2 puppy's in the class and one included my puppy. I felt as though the trainer spent way more time with the other puppy, it was very obvious to me. During the brushing session I timed it on my phone and she also checked out the other puppys paws and worked with the paws for 5 minutes where as my puppy didn't get touched. There definitely was favoritism . The other pup always went first in everything if my pup jumped up she always said something but nothing to the other pup. The trainer even walked and spent time with the other pups owner and made plans in front of me. Now I realize that it's not a class to have or make a friendship but this made it even worse. My point is we both paid the same amount of money and didn't get the same service/ treatment.I signed up for 2 sessions and didn't even finish the 2 session it wasn't worth the feeling of being left out and not liked. read more
