Some employees here are super nice but the rude ones really put a sour taste in my mouth. They act so annoyed when you ask them for assistance. I've since started to shop at fin n feather and have had a much better experience so far. Tonight I decided to give it another chance and pop in for some crickets and a bag of kitty litter since the other pet store was closed. I was turned away and told that they don't do "animal sales" an hour from closing time (I think I was there 30min before closing btw) I asked "even feeder crickets?" I went into the Eureka Petco yesterday to make a quick purchase of IAMS healthy adult cat food. I was in a hurry so was somewhat annoyed by the chattiness of the cashier. I remained polite but grabbed the cat food bag and hustled out of the store. When I looked at the receipt this morning, they had charged my account $108.61 ! I called the store and asked about it. They said I would have to come in in person to get my refund. The store is 2 hours away! I had given my name at the beginning of the telephone call. They had my id through my phone number, but they wouldn't refund me for the aquarium equipment they thought I had purchased. I don't have an aquarium! I'll go back to get my refund, but I won't be shopping there again. Look at your receipts before you leave this store! read more

Took my business to Fin And Feather pet store , went in here 4/12/26 to just buy some gold fish to put in a roughly 3 to 4 foot good sized fish pond , when i suddenly began being interrogated by the Queen of the Gold fish , what are they going into ? how big is it? what are the exact dimensions? At first I thought ok they're just making sure people don't over load a tank, I said its a big 3 to 4 foot round fish pond I only want like maybe 10 of these tiny 29 cent feeder fish that are barely an inch long . The questions continue and i say clearly you wanna make this more difficult than it needs to be how many gold fish are you willing to sell me for my fish pond ? her response none because you cant tell me the dimensions of your pond. In 15 years they'll be to big... As they sit there with their maybe 30-35 gallon tank overloaded with hundreds of these fish a complete joke this store has become went somewhere else where they didn't need my date of birth, social, mothers maiden name, place of birth to buy a 29 cent gold fish. Not to mention the tanks look disgusting here and stinks to all get out I highly recommend Fin And Feather as the tanks were clean and beautiful and didn't stink . It was my first time using any kind of grooming services. I wasn't sure how it worked. I went in and the worker seemed a little annoyed and was off putting at first, but once I showed them my dog's vaccination records, they were very professional and caring in ensuring my dog's comfortability. Middle of the day and there's only one register open. I lugged 70 lbs of cat litter through the line. Then I saw a cart without a pole on it (their idea of anti theft) and loaded my litter into it. Then I was told I couldn't take the cart and had to wait for a manager to walk out with me! I wasn't about to wait around with no one working on the floor. I took the cart to my truck and unloaded my 70 lbs of cat litter and brought the cart to the door where the "manager" finally met me to yell it's there policy and I can't take the cart!!! Dumbest policy I ever heard of. I understand hobos steal your carts but I told the cashier I'd bring it right back. Horrible experience. I went into the fish department looking for a dojo loach but the older lady working there with colored hair said they didn't have big enough tanks to carry those. Fine. No problem. When I asked her about a few other fish I thought looked cool, she promptly told me she wouldn't sell them to me because of my tank and the way she said it implied I was an idiot incapable of understanding the differences between cold water tanks and warm water tanks. I am writing this for a friend who doesn't have a yelp. Do NOT take your dog to get groomed here. They burnt my friends dog with the razors! I have another friend who works at a different Petco location who looked at the pictures and said to anyone trained even slightly would know they were hurting the dog and that something was wrong and they should have stopped. They didn't. She was mortified with what happened to poor Sophie. The dog in question is the sweetest calmest Springer Spaniel with the biggest heart of gold and it tears me apart that someone would put her in pain and not make it right or try to help. Shame on the idiots that work here for not training their groomers enough and being slimy individuals who wouldn't try to make it right. Or the groomers who hurt the dogs and kept going to just finish the job. Since Sophie got home she is not herself and won't let anybody touch her. What did they do to her? If it were my dog Corporate would have to bend over backwards to get me to shut up so I wouldn't sue their ass and take matters into my own hands with the idiot that did this. First they cancelled our appointment because they changed their hours after confirming my appointment. I came with my dog's certificate in hand and they said no they wouldn't accept it. I returned my dead betta fish 2 weeks after I bought them. They were contaminated with ich and contaminated my whole tank. I had my water tested and it was fine. So they approved the return. But the attitude I got from Dina who is the manager was awful. She was extremely rude. Asking me multiple questions accusing me of being at fault. Nearly not refunding me. And giving me nasty looks. A month later after cycling a brand new tank I came in for a new sorority. Dina had stopped me at check out questioning me yet again discrediting my knowledge on betta fish in front of EVERYONE. I'm very well experienced with them as I had told her the time before and she made me so embarrassed and exposed. I was about to break down in tears. I spend a lot of money there to ensure my tanks have the best care only to be completely embarrassed and patronized. I get my giant dog groomed here and they are always able to fit us in. They also do an AMAZING job, the girls literally spend three hours getting his undercoat out with his hairs flying everywhere. He barely sheds for so long after, he is half malamute so that's impressive. OH ok, so Pet-Co is where the pets go. Uh,actually, this girl who waited on me is a pit bull, so, I guess the dog stayed. Here is my saga, last week, I bought some cat food. granted, there are fabulous pet stores here,but Pet Co is the only that sells this kind of cat food. A friend of mine told me about it and she gave it to her sick cat and it worked wonders. SOO, I tried it. Hey, it did work. I digress, anyhoo,I bought some more of this cat food. Took it home, and, it comes in pouches, and when I opened the box of pouches...well, ooops, I bought chicken and inside was tuna. So, today, I brought it back. I said to the girl: " You see, the box says chicken and ta da, it is tuna" She replied, in a snarky pit bull kind of way " I can read". (Oh, I love pit bulls, hate to put her in that category) OK REALLY????? Apparently not, NICOLE, since you must have put the wrong pouches in the box when cleaning up loose pouches etc. (I quote.....as she said.) Must you be so snarky? You see, you may be the pit bull, but I am the "bee yotch" honey, so knock off your "tude" and have a bit more customer service. I love Humboldt County. Hate some of the *people* and their vices, but the area is beautiful and nothing made me see that better than living on the East coast for a while. This is home. That said, I am glad we do have a large pet supply store. The little ones around here are expensive with a small selection. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate small local businesses and shop them often, but not the ones with 600 - 1200% mark up just because they can slap a "local" or "organic" label on their product. (FYI, Organic does not automatically entail "all natural" or even "whole food".) What PetCo lacks in small business wholesome customer service, they more than make up for in real-world, "outside-the-Emerald-Bubble" reasonable pricing and huge variety. They also carry the no filler, no grain, whole-food pet foods I want. The kind where the actual ingredient list is: "turkey, chicken, duck, whole sweet potato, blueberries, sweet peas..." etc, etc, cat eats better than I do sometimes. If that brand was local, it would be $30 a six pack. At PetCo it's $2 a can or $8 a six pack. So yeah. Also, they have a policy where if you buy pet food, and for some reason your pet doesn't love it, you can bring back the bag even if it's half eaten and exchange it. I've only tried it twice, but it was honored. That's corporate policy and has been that way at every location I've visited all up the California coast and in the East. Likewise, they let me exchange her pet carrier because it wasn't airline approved even though I had no receipt and had used it once already. They gave me a gift card for the full current scan price, all friendly smiles and chatting while they worked. Big Business does not *always* equal "Bad Business", Humboldt. read more
