Have never had any issues with this petco. The workers are incredibly friendly and helpful and provide service in a timely manner. The store is always clean with a good selection of products. There is even a nice clearance bin near the front with a variety of items, and I can usually find something for a very good price. I haven't brought my pup in for grooming, which seems to be the makeup of the negative reviews. It's a good place to get in and get out with your necessities. read more

I have been going to this store regularly since 2013, when we got our Jack Russell puppy and I knew I had to keep him entertained. Awful place, unorganized staff, the manager could not even explain how information was transferred from store to store. We called and reserved a time for a grooming and when we showed up were told that the groomer had no idea we were on the schedule or how we got on and that she was too busy to help us today. Not my idea of good customer service, I doubt that if I left my dog there he would have been treated well or properly cleaned. If you have a pals rewards plan I strongly suggest getting rid of it and just buying some shampoo and washing your dog in the tub, it's not worth the 5% back if the employees run the risk of mistreating your animal. read more

As for the retail part of the store I have had great experiences, very helpful staff and always a wide variety of products. Took my 18 week old puppy in for his first grooming appointment and was less than pleased. From the moment we got in the employee seem displeased when my puppy would so much as approach her. They cut the appointment short saying they could not finish the service, they stated my puppy was being difficult but couldn't explain how so - he was not being aggressive, sound like vocal at most. The employee very rudely told me what training I should be doing with my puppy. Had she asked she would know, I do indeed do all the suggestions she gave. While I understand my dog is young and likely behaves better with me than a new person, it felt that this employee had no desire to help us or display any patience with my dog. The IQ of the employees working here as mentioned by previous posters is very low with the exception 1-2 people. So for starters almost every employee I have seen "looks like" they are the managers best friend that "needed a job" and so their friend (the manager) was like hey come work here. It doesn't help matters that they're constantly shooting the shit and joking around with each other like they all are best friends. Second 95% of the employees try their hardest, and I mean their hardest to act like you do not exist and try to ignore you when you're standing there politely trying to wait until they finish something so you can ask a question. Then after waiting 10+ minutes or being knowingly ignored you bring it to their attention that you would like help, they in a begrudgingly manner offer or say they will get assistance for you. A lot of the employees aren't very informative in their areas of supposed expertise, and they even admit it telling you to "go to your veterinarian or call them" frankly when looking for a treat, toy, or asking differences in the contents of wet food I don't feel I need to bother my veterinarian. The EMPLOYEE is supposed to know basic things, if you're the "dog expert" the "reptile expert" the "fish expert" the "small animal expert" however have only owned one dog in your life, a pet turtle, a goldfish, or a hamster that doesn't make you a frigging expert on every other animal in your department especially when you're saying something like cat food is acceptable cuisine for a ferret, uh no it's not. Or that all calcium supplements for reptiles are the exact same. Or better yet like a previous poster said, you're restricted to one type of fish, uh manager please, or better yet store owner please, extreme prejudice and discrimination on that one; which wouldn't make the store look much better, not that it does now right. Another thing because as if the lack of animal/ pet knowledge wasn't enough. They lack the proper skills to work a cash register and receipt machine when a jam occurs or a customer is returning a product for a refund. My most recent adventure here they had EVERY employee in the building trying to figure out this problem for well over 15 minutes. Seriously (Including the manager, who hey since when did you NOT have to wear your petco uniform while at work? Since when did it suddenly become okay to come to work in saggy, baggy unprofessional looking clothing?) apparently there is a full fledged need for a re training of employees, especially those who don't seem to get the basics. Also come on, really? Really? condescending tones, rudeness to customers (other reviews) ? You work at Petco, a near minimum wage job, that requires no special education or skills in any animal category /species apparently, that requires you to do basic things (read the back of a box of food or treats, put an animal in a box, take money and make change) loL and you think you're above paying customers that come in, I don't think so. Also if it's not a "I think I'm better mentality" and you just really really hate that you have to work, or have a job to pay for things, then perhaps you should consider quitting your job so no one has to deal with your stinky attitude. Now I'm not going to generalize all college bound individuals here because there are many working here in corvallis, that do an excellent, outstanding job at work and go above and beyond to help employees and provide excellent customer service, as you should when you're at your job and it's a customer service job. However passing through town, going to college doesn't entitle those of you who do act like a-holes at work to do so, thinking you can just go get another low waged job in a different customer service filed or that you only have to make it till summer and you can leave, uh no one wants to put up with your crud because you're on a different plan. Why bother hiring them, a little extra effort in advertisements could pull in more employees who are better suited and more friendly for the job and customer oriented like the few employees at Petco who do, do a good job. read more

Totally unable to communicate on a basic level. Filled out pet adoption application told clerk we had recently lost a cat about three weeks ago and thought we would adopt again. Denied!!! Why clerk changed the story three times: Story one you have a dog? the dog you never asked about also a recuse has no contact with the past cat, dog lives outside and inside at night on a totally different floor of the house. No contact with cat stop by closed door. Story two: you recently adopted a cat and lost it three weeks ago. What??? I adopted the cat SEVEN years go and lost if three weeks ago. Also have owned 5 other cats previously all living into the 12-18 range in age all recused. Seven years ago was not a recent adoption!!!! Story three: "you lost cat recently and you have a dog, You think you lost cat because it got outside and a feral cat ate it, so you live in an area with Feral cats..... " Oh please this lady did not listen or want to hear, made decision and told adopt agency I adopted and lost a cat is three week period of time... No wonder! I hate giving bad reviews, but the staff I encountered at this location just doesn't make this hard to do. The store looks good, the departments are well kept. I have had numerous bad encounters with the employees and on one notable occasion I was poorly instructed on how the fish they sold me would interact and the consequence was not well. It seems as though there isn't as much knowledge here as there is supply for the demand. When it comes to the aquatics at least. I couldn't speak for the rest of the store however. Terrible experience. Called in advance to make an appointment for my dog to have a bath. The employee in the grooming department who I spoke with over the phone was rude, clueless and acted like she could care less. This should've been our first sign to avoid this place. We arrived at the time of our appointment, with no grooming staff in sight. Chuck, I'm assuming a manager, acknowledged the appointment and went to get a groomer because he didn't know how to process the appointment in the computer or check us in. The groomer came out completely confused and unaware of the appointment, unable to fulfill the service at that time because her coworker negligently scheduled us on a busy day at a busy time. On top of it all, the manager never returned to the counter from the back grooming area as the poor groomer apologized to us. We left with a dirty dog, making the promise not to return. Horrible service!!! My daughter's fish died and we went in to let her pick out a new one. When my husband told the self appointed fish guru what our situation was he said we were only allowed to choose from two tanks, both of which contained guppies. We already have a guppy you dummy! We wanted something our three year old could choose! He said that was all we were "allowed" to have. Why? "Because they are resilient". What, like we murdered the fish? We had it less than three days in a tank with a heater, pump, treated water, weird fake trees and food. Why are we only allowed resilient fish? I have to say, of the staff that I have met there, a few of them seem like they know what they are doing. I have been shopping here on and off for the last year or more, because quite frankly they are the only large pet store within 30 minutes. Being an experienced pet keeper and fish enthusiast, I know basic animal keeping fairly well. Their fish are some of the healthiest I have seen at a petco (with a few exceptions) although their ignorant staff does not make up for that. I have seen employees sell people with 10 gallon tanks a common plecostomus, which will reach around 2' and requires 75 gallons at the least. I have seen another talk to a customer, and said he couldn't figure out why the baby betta they put in a 1/2 gallon bowl wasn't growing. (I breed bettas, and can tell you they will not grow without a heater and filter, and at least 2 gallons). They have more difficult fish, like discus, that are some of the saddest looking discus I have ever seen. Incredibly sick, and I would not trust the average petco customer to be able to care for such an advanced freshwater fish. The manager is absolutely horrid. I witnessed her yelling at one of her employees for no reason. She was assembling some new shelves, and an employee came over to help. The manager shouted "Why didn't you bring me a hammer?" The girl responded "well, you didn't ask me to bring you a hammer." The manager replied "You KNOW I am doing this, and I will probably need a hammer for this. So why didn't you bring one? This isn't rocket science." I awkwardly stood there just next to the isle waiting for somebody to help me get a feeder goldfish. After waiting for about 2 minutes, and walking around trying to find another employee, I finally asked her if she could help me in aquatics. I asked very politely, but she sighed like I had just asked her to help me move out of my 3 story house and said "yeah." She walked to the fish area (literally 15 feet away) and was like "What do you want." In general, whenever I see her there she is on crazy mood swings. Sometimes she is very nice, sometimes she will take out her rage on whoever is around her. Not somebody I would want around my pets. Other than that, all but like 3 of their employees look very odd. I don't mean this to be cruel, but many of them look greasy and just sketchy in general. Hunched over, scruffy, or overweight, they all seem a little difficult to approach. Most of them lack basic social skills. However some of the employees are VERY nice and helpful. Particularly the blonde girl who always asks if she can pet my dog. She is very helpful and actually walks around the store. Honestly, if you ever wanted to steal anything from this petco, I doubt anybody would notice. If there isn't anybody at the register, good luck finding anybody in the store. They all manage to disappear somewhere in the back or something. It's a little frustrating when you need to find somebody. Prices are pretty high for basic pet supplies, but they have a pretty good variety of stuff. If you are looking for fish, try Animal House, they have much healthier fish for reasonable prices. read more

If I could give these guys a 1/2 star I would. Yes they have a big selection, yes they offer plenty of services...but all that does not matter when you have poor service! There has been only one time I have had OK help from them, and that's because we had just adopted our dog. We had tons of questions that kept her busy helping us. We walked in after receiving a mailer that had a coupon for Natural Balance dog food. The coupon was very vague. So us being good shoppers went for the biggest bang for our buck and bought the big bag so we can get the big discount. Of course when we went up to pay, that particular bag was not on sale. Big deal right?! That wasn't the problem for us. The issue was how we were treated. The "manager" made us feel stupid by using a very condescending tone. Since then we have not been back! Our business is now with Animal Crackers Pet Supply. They have very similar prices with some of best customer service and very knowledgeable staff. They even gave us free samples of dog food. I always enjoy shopping at this Petco. Just last week they were out of my litter, but a gentleman came by and asked if there's anything he could do for me. I informed him of the item out of stock, and he said it would be no problem and that he could order it for me. He said that he could even ship it straight to my house, for free! He was genuinely interested in hearing about my pets. When I mentioned I was thinking about getting a puppy, he let me know about the great deal they have on training classes and Grooming. He also let me know about a coupon booklet that they have for new pet owners and the free Puppy Playtime that they do. At the checkout the young lady let me know about her own pets, we both have rescue cats. She also told me that one of her cats goes hiking with her! She was very knowledgeable about cat nutrition, and had great tips on getting my kitty used to the leash as well. read more

I have taken my dog here for the groomers 3 times now. First time we did a de shedding and the girl did great. Did the same option the second time and as soon as I got him hair would fall off as I pet him. I was pretty upset and did not want to come back. After months he needed a bath bad. I dropped him off just after 8am for a basic bath. They said it should be 2-3 hours. At 12:40 I still haven't gotten a call so I call them to see what is going on. They said he didn't like the hand drying so they put him in the crate dryer so it's taking longer and with clipping his nails and cleaning his ears it would be 45 more minutes top. It sounds like to me they just forgot about him in the kennel. 4 hours isn't enough for a basic bath? Nope because it's now been 6 hours since I've dropped him off and I still haven't a call back!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Good thing pet smart just opened up. Wish I could give 0 stars. I walked in to pick him up as it's been 6 hours and they were in the process of clipping his nails and cleaning his ears. So I still had to wait for them to finish. When they went to go get his collar he wouldn't go anywhere near the back. Luckily the other girl brought it out. Needless to say he was READY to get out of there. As soon as we got home he booked it to go to the bathroom and then chugged lots of water. Yeah. Not going back again. read more

I wish I could give two ratings because I've had two vastly different experiences here. I really, really like the trainers--I have since moved on to more experienced people in town because my dog is going to be my service dog, but Alex and Will were great for my puppy to start out with and will always be his friends. They ran puppy socialization class well and were good with customer service--the only constructive feedback I'd give them is that it's okay to be more assertive with pushy customers who are disrupting your training sessions with intrusions and questions and direct them to other departments or other staff because people are depending on you to give their dogs special attention and I think you can do it nicely and professionally. As for the other staff, there are people at the bottom who are nice, but grooming and management are terrible. The head groomer was the worst, made me wait three hours when I had an appointment, treated other people's dogs terribly before my eyes, tried to use me as her therapist, was working on such a poor diet her hands were shaking (this I found out through her using me as a therapist and telling me stuff I don't need to know about her life). When I walked out refusing to have my dog groomed, I later brought in my very well-socialized cat another day just to pick up some food and she tried to get me to have her groomed and she didn't even recognize someone she'd had a terrible experience with. She needs to be retired. She is not well. When I called to complain about her before, I was told she legally needs to take a lunch break--I understand that--the point was that she needs to schedule her day appropriately so that she is eating enough food to work, and if my dog needs to be rescheduled, CALL ME. read more

I should have read the other reviews before I shopped here. Called in yesterday and was advised that they did not have the specific dog food I was looking for. (Blue Wilderness Salmon Large Breed) so went ahead and ordered at Petco.com. Website is misleading and deceptive. Tries to sell services under the guise of surveys or rebates. Visited the store today to pick up some food to cover until our preferred arrives and look at the dog toys that were promoted on the web as being up to 40% off. Store was unaware of any discounts; when I rechecked the web there was no indication it was a web offer only. To my surprise the dog food I ordered yesterday was actually available in the store. When I expressed my concerns to the cashier she did give me $5 off which was nice but does not really address all the questionable practices that were experienced during a single transaction. read more

I asked for help in the saltwater aquarium section. The manager, yes I repeat the manager came over and helped. I wanted to know if they had emerald crabs. Rather than going through all the tanks and looking. He grabbed a net and trashed one of the aquariums with a tag in front of it. The rocks were thrown everywhere and didn't even think about the livestock in the tank. Detritus was thrown everywhere and the fish scattered and looked so scared. Then he kept doing it, so I said ok and left. The manager shouldn't be in saltwater. read more

The groomers are terrible!!! I was waiting with my dog for a toenail trim and watched how they treated and handled other dogs. It was so sad. They were being mean to one of the dogs because it was scared and would not get up on the FILTHY table. I kept saying aloud that the table was so dirty but they ignored me. The table had at least two different kinds of dog hair all over it. Tables should be sanitized between uses. It is easy to spread diseases and viruses between dogs and they obviously do not care. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. My big problem with this store is that it has a problem with Indian Meal Moths. We had our pest company come out and identify what they were. He found the eggs on a bag of dog food, and small banded moths were flying around everywhere. Indian Meal Moths spread like wildfire and get into all food items. We made the mistake of storing our dog food in the pantry, and they quickly spread to everything, laying eggs that are white and the size of a top of a straight pin. Never having experienced this before, we didn't know what we we in for. After discovering them in the folds of the bag of dog food, I took it back to the store. The clerk I talked to took the bag back and said that Petco was aware of the problem like it was nothing. It took us months to get rid of them, taking everything out of the pantry and throwing away everything twice. Only then did we discover that you can't really see the eggs when first layed on white shelves. We ended up having to use something that would absolutely dissolve the eggs. We did it twice just to make sure. This was last fall and winter. Our final cleaning was 6 months after the initial find, and only after throwing out EVERYTHING, including cans again. When I went back to Petco, because I thought they would have cleaned up the problem, I discovered the Meal moths still flying around, and eggs still on food bags. This was this last summer. I contacted the manager, who seemed surprised that the meal moths were in the store. She said they would look into it. I just went back last week, and still found eggs in the creases of dog food bags, and Indian Meal Moths flying out from bags when I picked a couple of bags up. I asked if the manager I had spoken to before was available and the current employees had no idea who that was. It is really inconceivable that no one there seems to care! My episode of infestation cost me hundreds of dollars, and hours and hours of work. Buyer be ware....they don't seem to care that they have a serious problem. read more
