This store has an amazing selection for dogs and cats, but the bird section is severely lacking. I love this store and the staff are beyond nice anytime I've visited, but I just can't justify coming here until the carpet in the entry way is removed. I don't think it's possible to get the ammonia/pee smell out of it at this point and I unfortunately get a nasty headache when I enter the store because of it. I've always had a wonderful experience here. Everyone is very nice and helpful, and they are all very knowledgeable about the pets! I appreciate that there are people that work there that actually know about exotic pets and the fish, and what care they need. Every time I'm there there's someone cleaning and feeding the pets so they care for all of them! They also won't sell you a sick fish, and I think it shows just how much care they put into the customers and the animals. I called Adrian at Petco and he said come in, we will fix you up. that is exactly what he did, he answered all my questions. He tested the water from my tank. very knowledgeable and helpful. he help me look for a healthy one and we found a beautiful red healthy active one. he sent me with dome rocks that will help the tank and boxed him up. we walked 2 miles to get there and back. we named him LOVE! we are so thankful for Adrian and Eric. I have been to this specific Petco quite a few times, and when I mean quite a few, I mean at least 1-2 times a week and have never experienced anything but professionalism and friendliness from the team that works there. This team at Petco College Station truly creates an atmosphere of welcome and acceptance. Every time I walk into this specific Petco it feels like I'm part of the Petco family. The team here makes an effort to remember the customers they serve and many of them greet me by name every time I come to visit. Susan, the store manager, has done a fabulous job working with her team ensuring that her customers are always provided exceptional customer service. When I couldn't find an item on the shelf, she always volunteers to see if they have it in the back. If the item is not available, she always offers to place a special order for me to ensure that I get what I am looking for. She is always ready and available to assist no matter what the issue may be. Many other team members have been just as helpful as Susan. If I ever needed fish help (SALTWATER... Yes Petco has saltwater fish... and freshwater), I can always reach out to Mel. She really knows the ins and the outs of all her fish in the aquatics section. She'll always ask what fish you already have in the tank and will always make the best recommendation to suit your specific tank. Going in, I have also had some dog questions and Caitlin has always been able to answer questions on her preferred dog food/treats and why. She always gives me a comparison and has always helped me to find the best product possible to suit my pup. every single time you go to schedule they turn around and cancel because they do not have enough staffing. the poor girl who is trying her best to groom these dogs is doing it by herself and sounds as if shes overworked. what kind of establishment doesnt correctly staff its grooming department these are dogs that deserve correct care and service people are trusting you with there furry little friends lives. 3 times they have cancelled on me. the young lady stated they have been struggling since december but the company has yet to step in and get them help. absolutely ridiculous!!! read more

The store isn't too bad and I don't hesitate to shop there BUT I have had a much better experience in general at Petsmart. I have been amazed at the quality difference between dog trainers in the two stores the most. We had my mother in laws dog trained at PetCo and it was an alright experience. We basically had a college girl who is pretty good with dogs that did a good job at holding the classes. Nothing spectacular.... We tried to sign my son's new dog up and didn't receive a call back after visiting the store even. Left messages, no calls.... We gave up and went to Petsmart. The Petsmart experience has been phenominal. They have a dog whisperer :). The woman knows her stuff. She has dealt with more puppy problems than anyone should have to deal with in a lifetime and can always give you advice on how to eradicate bad behaviors. read more

Our Corgi desperately needed a hair cut, nail and pad trim and a good bath. She received all this at an extremely good rate. The groomer was very helpful and attentive. We have been going here for a number of years and have found the staff in the grooming very good. We were quite pleased to see the remodeling that is going on in the main store and the veterinary clinic area. This was needed and I am sure will enhance the total store when completed. If you think the employees are good (and I do), I will bear with them while their remodeling is going on and keep going there. read more

They have done additional services that I didn't request or want, cut my pups' hair however is easiest for them to get it done quickly, cancel appointments the morning of due to lack of planning and aren't easy to work with when there is a problem. He fetched a cart for me and not only brought the aquarium stand to the checkout, he loaded it in the back of my car - heavy stand. While I lived in Austin I loved PetCo, I shopped there often for my dogs' food and other supplies. I am no longer enamored with the store, as the one in College Station is pretty crappy. They must not understand the whole principle of stocking their shelves properly....they are always out of some items and, my big peeve, there are always boxes in the aisles. You can hardly navigate the store because there are boxes blocking the aisles and merchandise. Come on folks, how hard is it to unload a box and get it the hell out of the way? If the fire department were to stop by, I'm sure it would be a violation. The groomers did a sub-average job on my dog and they were much more expensive than PetSmart. read more

This is in regards to Petco's grooming department. I only have used them 2 times and told myself after each time I would never go back. After the second time I used their grooming services I was reminded why I do not use them. They did not do anything I ask but did do everything I asked them not to do. They charged me for a bad hair cut, a horrible flea treatment my dog did not need (he is on flea and heartworm preventative). I asked them about this and they just shrugged their shoulders and said "You signed this that says we can do what we want"...just be careful with the groomers. They, in my ever so humble opinion are not honest because they charge for unnecessary things. read more

For years we bring our two small dogs once in a great while for a good groom here. We brought them in at 3:20 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and stood there for 15 minutes while an employee was trimming nails of another dog, not giving a simple acknowledgement of "we'll be with you in a moment". I've worked retail and fast food for years, customer service is part of your job and they obviously can't do it. Then another employee came out and gave us attitude about how she would not have time to groom them even though the hours state they are open until 6. She was very condescending, and the way we were treated we were afraid how they would treat our dogs, especially with one of them being 15 years old. I would never go back again. read more

I took my cocker spaniel in for grooming and I was asked if I wanted the typical cocker spaniel hair cut, with the back shaved and the skirt left longer and I agreed. I then specifically asked for his eyelashes to be left long and to not be cut. I show up to pick him up and his beautiful hair on his skirt that we had been growing out for a few months was completely shaved off. Not even a difference in length between the skirt and the back like the "typical cocker haircut." I then noticed that his beautiful long eyelashes were also hacked off as well, when I know for sure I specified DO NOT CUT THEM when I dropped him off, it was even repeated back to me. I could of cried, he still looks cute but I'm very upset that NOTHING that I asked was done correctly to my dog. However, the groomers and staff were very friendly I will say. I will not be returning to this Petco again, I am very upset about his skirt and eyelashes being completely gone. read more

I really like this store but its kind of hit or miss with the employees. when we first moved here (2.5 years ago) I loved going there and had excellent help from their employees! it was nice to go in and find one person who could help me answer questions about our sons lizards (in a way I can understand!) and then answer all of my dog food questions, but it is harder now to find anyone that really knows anything or seems like they care... they have lost a few good employees I think. the sales are definitely fantastic. even worth crappy service! read more

I called Petco and asked the manager (Shane Turpen) if I could bring my hamsters in. He said I could and asked me how many hamsters do I have. I told him between 6-8. He told me well if you bring that many in, then you need to bring a cage for each one separately. I asked him if I can bring all the hamsters in one cage. And he said no. He also said that pairing hamsters together is not good and they will eventually kill each other. I told him that I have 3 hamster cages at the house and all of them are paired up and they are doing just fine. Anyway, I got off the phone with him and thought about what he just said. Then I called him back. I told him if pairing hamsters together is bad; then why do you have all of your hamsters at your store all together in one cage. He replied angrily "just bring them in". I told him their is no need for an attitude. I am a customer and didn't appreciate his tone. His customer service was poor and he needs a refresher course on customer service. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM FOR ANY FUR-BABY!!! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I used to take my dog here to get groomed and they hurt him twice. The first time it was bad and he needed stitches and the groomer apologized repeatedly and she seemed genuine so I took it as an honest mistake and let it slide. They also offered to pay for the grooming and the vet visit which was nothing less than I would've asked. However, the second time I took my dog in to get groomed another groomer hurt him the same way yet again despite a notification the first groomer had put in the system to notify all other groomers of my dogs condition. The second groomer didn't apologize once when I went in to get my dog and she had the nerve to say my dog tried to bite her. What did she expect?! Any dog will try to protect himself in the case that he's being hurt! She still expected me to pay for the grooming in full. Needless to say that was the last time I went in.
