We came here to pick up pet supplies to leave our kitty at a relative's house. Abel was very helpful in discussing the different kinds of litter. We were getting a smaller size than we normally get, not our typical brand. There were some people there in grooming but no one in the front. The animals we saw looked ok, healthy. The store seemed well stocked. After picking up a few more items we headed to the register. We have rewards at Petco and had our card but did not know our password; we asked the cashier how many points we have. She curtly told us we have to update them ourselves, manually. That wasn't very helpful, and we will check to see if that's the case, though we are skeptical. read more

My dog has been to this location before. The bath was fine but the groomer was late. I know that things happen and no one is perfect but after my experience today, it seemed like something I should add as I believe it has more to do with the employees at this location than just a one time thing. I booked an appointment for my dog to get a bath. Like I said, she has been to this location before with no problems. When I got there, the groomer that was supposed to bathe my dog said that she tried to contact me to let me know that she refused to accept her because in the notes I had mentioned that she has arthritis. Yes, I missed the text but only because I received a message after that text that said the appointment was confirmed. I only saw the most recent text. She went on to say that it doesn't matter that my dog had been there before because none of her previous appointments had been with her. Regardless I find it ridiculous how they operate here. Apparently there is no consistency in the type of people that they hire. No standard of what a groomer should be capable of handling. My bet on what happened is 1) she was too lazy to do the appointment and found a way out with my pet's condition (considering she was just sitting on her phone when we got there) or 2) they really are just incompetent. After seeing the other reviews of this place, I think it was a blessing in disguise. There's no telling how they would have handled my pet. No one knows what happens behind closed doors. They can respond with whatever crappy response they pull out of their ass about policy and ensuring safety for pets and employees. They have a vet service as well and they have fish and they have food for cats and dogs mostly but they also have other pets like ferrets inside the store. The staff were very friendly and nice and patient. They also do a donation where if you donate 510 1520 or more you can get your pets name written on a piece of paper that is in the shape of a heart to say thank you and your pets name will be remembered On their wall. read more

I have used Petco for grooming services for some time, but first time in this Chicago location. First for my Bedlington Terrier "Mr. Pibb", and now for a new Bedlington Terrier, "Ferris Bueller". Both have been trained as Service Dogs. They check my blood-sugar level by smell - I am diabetic. Ferris was booked into this location at 613 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago on July 9, 2025. There was some delay in staff arriving at this location at the booked time of 8:00am, but someone finally arrived and took my dog. He was returned to me at about 11:30am. He looked fine. Subsequently, he has developed a large patch of black hair on what is a light gray to white dog. This was due to some kind of injury being done to him during the grooming session at your facility that damaged the hair in these locations. Perhaps a burn. The abrupt change in color is a known result of skin injury, often during grooming by a careless or inexperienced groomer. This is well-documented including by the AKC. I've also attached a photo showing the injury area. I've owned a Bedlington Terrier for over 16 years and this is the first experience of groomer injury to my dogs. I'm hopeful that there isn't any longterm damage to Ferris Bueller from this grooming. Reports directly to Petco are ignored. read more

Worst grooming experience ever. I stopped going to Petco months ago because of this, but I recently needed a last-minute appointment since my regular groomer was out of town. That's when I learned Petco had actually banned me from their grooming services. The purple-haired stylist (I believe her name was Cynthia) rudely demanded that I clean up a mess that was clearly not from my dog. When I told her it wasn't his, she became visibly upset and refused to groom him--without even looking at him--claiming he was "trying to attack" her. For context, my dog was under 1 year old at the time, under 15 lbs, and has never shown aggression toward anyone. Every other groomer he's had has loved him. It was obvious she was acting out of ego, not safety. Because of her attitude, my dog was refused and I was banned as a customer. I tried contacting the store manager and never received any response. Extremely disappointed, but not surprised this location has a two-star rating. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Please don't take your pet here for grooming. We got our pet groomed there and when we brought her back, we noticed that the face was not groomed properly. It was as if they had missed cutting the hair near her left eye and the rest of the face was also asymmetrical. We called back immediately to request them to fix it. The groomer said she was busy that day and was off the next day and asked us to bring our pet the day she was back. We did just that and they fixed the grooming. But when we tried to schedule again, they said they wouldn't take our pet because we have "brought the pet back for additional hair cuts multiple times and sometimes as late as 15 days after the first cut". This is completely false. Firstly they didn't groom properly, and then they went ahead and created a fake story about this happening multiple times and as late as 15 days after the event. I asked them to give me the dates when we did this, and they couldn't even give us the dates (because it isn't true!) Please save yourself the harassment and take your dear pet to another location. I am not going back to that location ever because I don't trust them with my dear pet anymore. read more

I took my dog in for grooming and was throughly disappointed Cassie was my dogs groomer and needless to say she was having an extremely off day. She didn't do anything to my dogs head.. no face trimming she says because he was moving not ears taken care of nothing on his head she literally took clippers and went short on his body once there were long hairs sticking out all over his body. Also my dog doesn't have front teeth just wanted to put that out there. I watched a 20 second tik tok video when I got home and cut his face hair with details shears that I have around the house... I don't know if she is unskilled or just lazy when it came to my dog but I'll never book with her again. I had a worst than pleasant encounter with Tawanna!!! I booked an Appointment for my pup Saturday the 25th at 3:30 for bath and brush. I received 2 confirmation calls the day before, one call I missed.. the second I answered and confirmed that I would be at the appointment the following day. Saturday I received yet another a missed call from Petco at 11:36, 3:05, 3:05 and a last call at 3:06. Mind you I confirmed the DAY before and my appointment wasn't until 3:30. At 3:06 my appointment was cancelled. What business cancels an appointment before it even starts?!? I made it the Petco at 3:15 and asked why my appointment was cancelled. One of the other groomers insisted that I talk to Tawanna about it. I instead went to "management " who did absolutely nothing. I then spoke to Tawanna about why she canceled my appointment. With the WORST ATTITUDE ever she gave me 3 reasons why I was cancelled: 1. "People have to pick up there kids so we don't have time to deal with this" 2. "We didn't know if you were a real person, because you cancelled an appointment in the past"( this makes no sense given that I talked to her the day before to confirm.. furthermore who makes a fake dog appointment) 3. My appointment was cancelled on accident. My theory is that I was probably her last appt, she wanted to leave early so after she blew up my phone calling and I didn't answer she cancelled so that she could "pick up her kids" How she handled the situation was unprofessional and disrespectful to say the least. Tawanna CHOSE that work schedule, if you had obligations with your "kids" , request off.. but canceling someone's appointment for your convenience isn't right! This review is for the groomer Cynthia. There are so many examples of how they offered poor service to humans, but the worst part was how they treated my dogs. Without asking me any questions about my dogs at all, she put a slip collar around their neck. Company policy mandates the use of a slip collar, but Cynthia refused to move even a step when my dog tried to move away from her. This resulted in my dog coughing. When I voiced my concern to Cynthia, she only said "they'll be fine" and didn't move one step to alleviate the strain on my dog's neck. I voiced my concern to a manager who said they understood and would "coach" the groomer. When picking up my dog, Cynthia wouldn't look or speak to me. My dogs hair was cleaner, but not shorter. I honestly am not sure she even cut my dog's hair. The other worker handed me my dog, we both waited to see if Cynthia would speak. She didn't. I almost ran out of that location. If you visit this location for grooming do not trust Cynthia with your dog. I would never visit this location for grooming services with Cynthia on staff. Despite it being minutes away from closing he was kind and engaging and even managed to help multiple people while we were checking with grace and attention to each persons needs. This Petco location is fantastic! I had a positive experience with the employees and groomers. I came in -with a chihuahua - 5 min before the grooming salon closed and the groomers acted like it was no big deal and where super polite. I am a former dog groomer and - I know it's never not a big deal with a chihuahua- hence me taking her to the groomer for her nails. My dogs nails looked like Anthony Hopkins's in Brahm Stroker's Dracula and now they look like Paris Hilton's chihuahua's! Highly recommend! read more

I usually don't review big box chain stores like Petco, but we had an awful experience here. We waited half an hour in front of the fish tanks for someone to help us capture a few tropical fish for us to take home. We tried to flag down a sales rep who said she would be right there; she came to the fish section and started helping someone else. When someone finally came to help us, she started using a very derogatory tone to interrogate us about our fish tank and how we care for our fish, refusing to sell us the fish we wanted. And then she accused us of overfeeding our fish (we never even mentioned feeding, mind you) and told us that we would reactivate the nitrogen cycle and it would take 8 weeks for the tank to recover and this would cause all of our fish to die off. Well, we took our business to another store. I'll rescind my review if all of our fish die off due to our horrible mistreatment and overfeeding. Oh and by the way, while we were perusing the fish selection here, we saw at least two dead fish and one dead shrimp hanging out in the tanks. read more

Animals had contagious diseases (communicable to humans). This Petco refused to make good on its promise to pay for healthcare in the first 30 days. Several veterinarians have advised that these diseases are probably widespread at the store. Before I get into the particular problems, I want to point out that even if the pets contracted all of these diseases the literal moment we picked them up, so little time has passed that we still wouldn't be seeing symptoms of the skin conditions, and the respiratory infection would have shown up much later. We also have no other pets. I don't blame Petco lightly. My girlfriend bought two guinea pigs here a few weeks ago. When we brought them home their health seemed good, although they were very young. Later the same day we noticed they were sneezing a lot. The vet told us they both had pneumonia. Within a week we noticed hair loss around their noses, and strange behavior like running headlong into furniture. This time the vet did a dermatologic exam. They both had ringworm and Sarcoptic (scabietic) mites. After three weeks of difficult treatments and (many) hundreds of dollars, we have gotten the pneumonia and ringworm under control. But the scabies is much more difficult, and one of them is now hospitalized with festering wounds caused by extreme scratching. At this point we are horrified at the way Petco must be treating their animals. One time we got a woman on the phone who admitted the disgusting conditions in which the animals are shipped, but otherwise they have insisted their animals are pristine. Despite the written medical opinion of two veterinarians, Petco continues to insist all this must be our fault. They have also reneged on their promise to cover healthcare, saying they only pay if we bring the animals back to Petco for treatment. This is absolutely unacceptable to us because we have lost all faith in their ability to look after the welfare of our pets. read more

This location is full of friendly staff and some great selections of toys and treats. We have taken our dog here for some grooming and we have never had a bad experience. He is a 60lb+ mix and doesn't like loud noises (dryers, nail buffers etc.) and does ok here. We do watch through the glass and it seems to help him. Parking is great (I think it's 90 minutes free. Any who yesterday I went in (10.27.2016) to buy the usual Merrick Backcountry Raw Infused THOUGH this time they were all out of the meduim size bags. It's just frustrating when you have loyal costumers and the food you buy once a month if not twice a month isn't on the shelf. Now you may think "jeez lady cut them slack" but this has happened b4. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I had my dog groomed today at the Roosevelt location for the first time and when I picked him up, they told me he was bad on the table and weren't able to cut around his face. I have my dog groomed regularly and he has never been returned to me looking so ridiculous. They offered for me to hold him down while they tried to cut his face, but I declined, thinking his face hair being a little long wasn't a big deal. Upon returning home and being able to get a good look at the rest of his body, the groomer didn't cut the hair on his legs, his chest is full of nicks and patches and the hair on his neck looks like a drunk toddler tried to do it with hedge trimmers. It's extremely uneven everywhere. I will absolutely need to have him re-groomed to even out this botch job. When I called the groomer to request a refund, I was put on hold four times and disconnected every time. I sat on hold for a total of 45 minutes before speaking to Karen, the team lead for the day. Karen was useless and told me she "didn't believe this warranted a refund because I got what I paid for". When I pushed back and explained I didn't pay for half a haircut for my dog and didn't feel comfortable bringing him back in to fix it, knowing I've now complained, she told me she was unwilling to assist me in any other way and I could call back and talk to the manager tomorrow because she was CHOOSING to do nothing. The customer service is just as abhorrent as their grooming capabilities. Save your money and your pets the stress of going to this heinous place. read more

I bought a guinea pig there a month ago. It was very skinny and was shaking a lot. I was told it was because she was very young and stressed. The shaking stopped and I assumed she would gain weight with time. Then after 3 weeks she started feeling unwell ( eating less, moving less, heavy breathing). We also noticed something strange around her ears. We took her to the store where we bought her to get some advice/help but since they only have a vet for cats and dogs they couldn't help us. We were just offered to return her and get our money back. It was awful because we knew they would not treat her but let her die. We finally managed to get the name of a vet for her. We took her the following day and learned that our Guinea pig had not only a bad case of pneumonia but ringworms as well. And the doctor was positive she had it all when we got her. She wasn't skinny, she was emaciated! He prescribed antibiotics but said we couldn't treat the ringworms because it would be too much to handle for her. He said she had a 10% chance to survive. We took her home, gave her her medicine and special food. She died during the night . We are upset the store didn't care correctly for this guinea pig when they had her. They could have treated her illness. And we are upset that they offered to dispose of her when they learned she was sick but still under " warranty " as they say. No interest in finding care for her. read more

Very disappointed in the management and event that took place today. I'm a regular and respected rewards member of Petco. I have been for about 3 years now. I have shopped at this location often. Today I was disrespectfully put out by the store manager Marcus for doing an exchange with a yorkie breeder who I've done business with before INSIDE a Petco with no issues. Marcus clearly stated "you guys must get out, and liKe NOW" We were confused as to why he was so hostile and rude. We gathered our items and was getting ready to leave the store, then Marcus clearly stated, "I'm the head store manager, you can get out or I will call the police.." We were still confused and I alerted him he did not need to be rude nor threatening, we WERE customers of this store, but I kindly put the items I was going to purchase BACK, and I will NOT return to this location until new management is in place. The situation was unnecessary considering we were instructed by local authorities to solicit the exchange inside the police station or pet store for SAFETY. To keep things short, I was not satisfied. To start off, I walked in to do an even exchange on a select brand of canned cat food that only Petco carries, no CSR's greeted me, I had to play scavenger hunt to find someone to help me. Once I found an employee I asked if I could speak with one of the managers. Hesitantly the employee "Mike" answers that he is the manager on duty. I proceed to inform him of my predicament about having bought my Cat his food at a different location, same store brand (PetCo) just different store. I informed him that I had no receipt but that I had the same credit card i used to purchase the food. All i asked was to do an even exchange because all i wanted was to get my cat a different brand of food, possibly something more inexpensive just for the fact that my cat is a picky eater. All he did was say "Sorry, we can't do that without a receipt, unless you had bought the food here, but other than that we can't help." I had to reiterate my sole purpose for being there, an even exchange. Mike was no help at all, just said what he had to say and didn't bother checking to see if there was anything he could do to help. I don't know if he was a "manager in training" or if he was just unaware of the correct policies but on the Petco website it states that the merchandise is able to be returned for an even exchange if the receipt is not present . I wasn't asking for a refund or anything that Petco isn't willing to already do, i just want my cat to be happy. So hopefully Petco corporate can look into the training of policies to ALL the employees, because of this reason I shall not be returning to this location. I will most certainly not recommend people to shop at this location either due to the fact that there wasn't a single employees around to even greet me. Hi! So I am the girlfriend that William R. was referring to. Around March/April last year I got my two Guinea pigs and they were both sick. William R's comment has the full story of their ailments if you're interested. However, I'd like to follow up on how absolutely unbelievable their sickness was. I am happy to say that they are healthy now. And they are super happy. I got them a way bigger cage once they grew because honestly, the Petco cage sizes are barely big enough for a single Guinea pig, even the biggest cage. The ones on Amazon are cheaper and wayyyyy better anyway. The one I got was from Guinea habitat plus and it was CLEARLY designed with Guinea pigs in mind, which I cannot say that about the Petco cages. Anyway. So one Guinea pig had ringworm for MONTHS. I mean like, at least three months. And I took him to the vet IMMEDIATELY and gave him all his medicine exactly as directed. It would break my heart so much to give him his medicine because he was just a baby and he really hated it, but the poor thing had an open wound on his face! And it's not like I just went to the vet once.... I went so much that everybody that worked there knew me and loved me and my Guinea pigs (their names are Poot and Snoot (: ) Anyway, I contracted the ringworm in July. When I contracted it, I had also been spraying down their cage with mite spray (cause they had mites too) and washing the spray off in my bathtub, and then I totally got the ringworm when I used the razor that was on the soap dish in the shower. I felt it the very second I contracted it and I knew exactly what it was right when it happened. I immediately got help for it. I have been seeing a doctor every two weeks since July, and not only has it not gotten better at all, but it's recently evolved into something else and it's gotten much worse, and it never once improved. It hurts like hell; I'm literally in pain every single day of my life. It's hard to work, and really it's hard to function at all because it's so painful. A few times it hurt so bad I went to the ER. I've had three dermatologists at Rush look at it and they are all literally so confused and said they had never seen anything so bizarre or aggressive. I've spent easily $10,000 trying to get rid of this insane ailment that I definitely got from the pets sold by this Petco and the (approximate) ten vet visits. I got my second set of stitches today because the doctor has to cut out chunks of my skin (and stitch me back up) to send full chunks of my skin to the mayo clinic for a full biopsy. Never shop here. This place should be shut down. I was talking to lawyers for a while a few months back but nobody seemed to care because I guess Guinea pigs don't matter to the world lol. But I'm thinking I'm gonna reach out to lawyers again and see if I can find anything. Cause this is an insane amount of bills. And a normal person might respond, get different Guinea pigs or don't go to Petco. And like, yeah no shit sherlock but I didn't know at the time. And I'm not getting new Guinea pigs...... imagine how much a girl who's like so ready to be a mom would not want to replace her Guinea pigs that she bonded with and had to give 7 different medicines to both of them for MONTHS. If you want any help with Guinea pig questions or something, honestly don't go to this Petco, just reply to this post and I'll help you out. P.S. in case any doctors are reading this, my skin was looked at under a microscope a lot and every time it appeared to be fungal. I tried lotrimin, lamasil, naftafine hydrochloride, clobetasol proproniate, mupirocin, 6 weeks with 150mg fluconazole, mometasone furoate, acetone, tea tree oil, alcohol, selsun blue (found that tip online), and triamcinolone acetonide. The thing that helped the most was definitely acetone (of course). If you're a doctor I'm sure you know some of those meds aren't for ringworm, but we literally just don't know what to do. I've asked if they can somehow surgically remove it and they said no at the time I asked, but it's spread so much I wouldn't think surgery is possible anymore. I would wear lidocaine patches all the time so I could at least think straight, but (this is crazy to me) insurance cut my access to lidocaine so ten patches is like $100. read more

Lexie is skittish about being groomed and can be a little difficult, but Mylissa managed to bathe her, dry her, and brush her better than we've ever been able to. She looks like a new dog. I've been going to this location for 2+ years for grooming without complaint. On our last visit, my dog was injured. They claimed she was being aggressive and are unable to groom her anymore. Prices online are different from in-store prices. I purchased an item in store which turns out to be 33% cheaper online through their website. Even with shipping it would've cost less to purchase online. Trying to be a good citizen and patronize local stores and community but this kind of dysfunction just pushes people to online retailers. read more

I have had mediocre groomers here in the past, however recently had Cathleen as a groomer and she is amazing! She did a great job on my dog Arya, very sweet and attentive to her. I would definitely recommend her as a groomer and will go back to see her again. read more

I just got a new dog from a shelter and I brought him in for all new supplies. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They gave me a whole book of coupons and walked around the store with me to help me find everything. The coupon book even came with a free bag of dog food. They also have a vet that will chip my dog for $15. Also they have a parking lot which is appreciated in the city. read more

This Petco location has the worst grooming team. They will not call you in advance to pick up your dog like they are supposed to do (it's petco policy to give a call 30 minute in advance, I've been told by the manager), and they will make them wait in crates. I told them that my dog has separation anxiety and doesn't do well in crates because of her past in shelters, and that she's going through training and treatment for that. They completely ignored it and left her in a crate and didn't call me to pick her up. When I called they said that she was already done. This happened multiple times. I never got an apology from the groomers or the person at the desk. The grooming location on N Orleans street is much better and not too far from them. read more

DO NOT EVER BUY A FISH FROM HERE! My husband and I bought a fish yesterday and it was infected with the ich virus. I'm now concerned that my whole tank of other fish is infected as well. Their fish are not properly cared for! read more
