I like the selection of supplies and the staff has always been helpful. I went into the store looking for a brand of food that this store didn't carry and ended up buying another brand to tide me over. When I went home, I ordered from Petco online and was more than happy with the delivery. No, I won't be getting all my stuff online now, but it was good to know in a pinch I could use it as a fall back. today we had an appointment to take my Yorkie in and the lady behind the desk who is always nasty and I refuse to let my dog be with her. Kim was there. She proceeded to tell us that we did not have our updated rabies shots for the dog, which I they had gotten because we had had a house fire and had lost them so I had to have them sent over. She said she didn't have them and really wouldn't even help me to try and keep the dogs appointment so I asked to speak to a manager. Jason came and he was so nasty and started telling me that no one should've told me it was OK yesterday if it wasn't in the system and I explained they helped and he refused to even look in the system , so I informed him that I would be reporting this to corporate because I think it's terrible that everybody complains about this on reviews and on social media and I just don't think it's fair that she is able to be around dogs. he claims that was threatening him. I have been a customer there since the Chesterfield Petco opened. I buy all my small animals there and their supplies. Used to have great service there but I came in there about 5 months ago to get a hairless guinea pig because my daughters passed away and she was heartbroken. I seen little Waylen moo and had to get him. When I got him home I realized his head was sideways. He had a pretty bad head tilt. I was worried because the only time I seen that was in a hamster I had that had a stroke and did circles for the rest of its life. I brought him back up there within the 30 days to see what the manager thought and possibly have it sent to the vet. He brushed it off like he was most likely fine and talked us out of it by saying their vets don't really like when they have to come get pet and normally would have them for a month. They charge 200.00 for these pets!!!! Now 5 months later it seems he may have had another stroke or has some kind of genetic nervous system issue and he's suffering terribly. His head is being pulled hard to the right and it started out with him not walking with right front paw and falling over then rolling and flipping on his back to get up right now he just don't move at all and his eyes shake and paw twitches and he's stuck on his side and I can't do anything for him but hold him and cry and wait while he suffers when something may have been done in the beginning if we took to the vet and found out why he had a stroke in the first place. The people there that sell the animals clearly know nothing about them. I brought my hammy up too because it had mites and the guy looked and said he didn't see anything but most mites are invisible to the eye. People should know SOMETHING about the animals they are selling and if you offer a 30 day warranty or free vet care then live up to what you advertise. I'm heartbroken now and going to watch another lover one die and I spent a lot of money to do so. I will no longer be a Petco customer. I will go up there just to show them what they put me through and I will never go back. read more

Because of the pandemic, I thought I would take my baby to get groomed here, for safety reasons. Nice staff but terrible at grooming! My dog's hair was super uneven! I had to touch him up when we got home! I'm definitely not taking my dog here again. He's 10 yrs old and is very good with groomers. We just moved in the area and trying local services out. Cut my dogs eye lid!!!.... Apparently my dog bit the groomer. She still cut him. Just a 12 yr old 8# dog, with hardly any teeth left. No way in hell I would go back!!! WTF! I guess I should consider myself lucky it was just a cut. I have heard of a dog dying in their care over the past year. I don't think these people pay attention enough to what they're doing I would never ever go back here or recommend them. Their selection of items is good, but I will not go in there again due to the horrible customer service from the manager. This Petco is awesome! Myself and Tala (my resuced blue nose pit bull) have been coming here for dog training classes since she was10 weeks old. She has gone through puppy 1, puppy 2 and Good K-9 Citizen certification. Our instructor was summer and she is just amazing. You can tell she really cares about your pet doing their best. She is always willing to help us pick out a harness, leash, toy, treat or food. I love their rewards card and am always getting 5 dollar back coupons. They are also always running sales and discounted items. Unfortunately Tala has food allergies and they don't carry the food she is on so I have to go to Rocco's Pet Depot for that. read more

bought a hamster from here, specially wanted a boy, no real reason but i wanted a boy. and for reference i have had 1 male hamster in the past and my sister currently has two. i get to the store and pick out the one i want out of a cage of MALE hamsters. so tell me why i get home to find months later that it's a female....this store is laughable. don't bring your animals here for grooming and the ones they have in store you can see are horribly taken care of...and not to mention they can't tell the difference between male parts and female parts. read more

I have a 1 1/2 year old American bully and he hates getting his nails done, nobody would touch him! Then I met Debbie at his location and she was amazing!!! She didn't discriminate when he walked in the door because of his big block head!. She was so patient and was able to dremble his nails down even tho they were so long and all while Tyson had his attitude issues a couple times! I never felt judged by her and my dog loved her! Treating people with respect when they have a dog of a breed that has a horrible stigma is the correct thing to do! For being the amazing non judgmental person she got a 20 dollar tip for a 10 dollar service! I am so satisfied ! Thank you! read more

I don't have anything to say about this Petco as a business, but would like to comment on Paws for the Cause which does adoptions out of this store. Paws for the Cause (not on Yelp or I would have reviewed them directly) is the most horrible animal rescue organization that I've ever heard of or encountered. Looking at their website they seem like such a great organization that cares about cats. As it turns out, this organization is run by a woman that is extremely rude and when she makes an error instead of admitting to a misunderstanding and finding an animal a good home, turns into a defensive snotty child. I've never met her so maybe she is a child, who knows. Or a crazy old cat lady. I have never been so disrespected as I was by this Laura Wilhelm person (and I work with lawyers, so have heard my fair share of disrespectful stories). Regardless of what she may say, there are saved emails that clearly display her lack of sanity, intelligence, and compassion when it comes to the animals she "cares for." As this Petco is affiliated with her, I would be cautious when handing over your financial information and personal identifiers for your background check. Who knows what these agencies do with the information, considering that they lack basic level reading skills. There are hundreds of agencies like Paws for the Cause in Michigan. Don't support this one when your financial resources and word of mouth could go towards agencies that want what's best for animals- to find them a warm and loving home. read more

The service here is much more personal, prices are comparable, it's more fun to bring your dog to, and the employees search you out to give you coupons!! I love the store and it's employees, even one lady--Debbie/Deborah??-- who does grooming here, but not at all happy with the people who trim (dremel) dogs' nails! I had a bad experience about a year ago and stopped coming all together and started with a small shop run by an older couple. Due to missing a couple weekends and my dogs' nails getting a little too long and my groomer closed for that day, I decided to take my dogs to Petco one more time as I am going on vacation soon. My poor dogs who usually sit very calmly and well behaved--although they don't like the dremel noise--were jumping all over the tables, almost falling off, and kept pulling their paws back and looking at the groomer in shock as if they couldn't believe this "nice" person was hurting them! I didn't get back from paying in time to save my one dog from a horrendous experience, but I did see the end of the whole thing as I came in the door. My second dog was still being done and also having a terrifying experience. I told the girl she was too close to the quick and that was why my dog was jumping and upset. she finished up just the same! I know now why I don't--and never will again--come to this store for grooming! These people are not taught correctly how to do a dog's nails, or else they are paid by the inch! They also charge almost double than the groomer I've been going to the past year. Imagine--paying double to put your dogs through hell! read more

I am sad to say I am extremely upset with the grooming my goldendoodle received. Both of my dogs have only gone to Petco for grooming and as of today that has ended. My dog was groomed exactly 6 weeks prior to this appointment so he by no means is neglected in the hygiene department. He is part poodle so his hair is curly and we all know that tends to mat. What this women did to my dog could be described no other way than him being the recipient of a temper tantrum! She was nasty when Max was picked up saying we need to take better care of our dog because this is what she had to do to him. She shaved him down to skin. Honestly there is not a place on his body that I could grab his fur, it is that short. That is including his face and tail! He has two burn marks on his body and has been angry since being picked up. He is biting and growling at the other dog in our home. There is NO WAY his fur got so bad in 6 weeks that she needed to do that to him. Even if he was not brushed in between appointments it could not have been bad enough to deserve what he went through. Max was dropped off at 1:30, at 4:30 my husband went to get him and was told he wasn't even started. I'm assuming that meant he was washed by the haircut had not yet began. I got a call 40 minutes later that he was done. She spent maximum a whole 40 minutes attempting to brush him, decide she couldn't and shave him down so bad he was burned more than once. When I called to ask what happened the management told me "Unfortunely you got my rookie. Next time you should ask for ____or ______" I am deeply sad Max had to suffer. read more
