We took our boxer here for training and it really worked out. The trainer (which I'm sorry I forgot her name) was super helpful and knowledgeable when it came down to our breed of dog. In regard to pricing of items, it's about $4-5 more than Petsmart. They carry the same selection. Petco is much closer to my house, so if I'm in a rush like always, I usually to Petco. I can usually find coupons for our dog food, so it kind of evens out. The people in the store are friendly, but you usually have to go to the front of the store to ask for help if you're looking for something. Not a big deal. read more

I like this store a lot because it's clean, fairly well stocked, and in a nice area, but there always seems to be a shortage of employees on duty so there's often a wait to speak with someone, or a long line, or both. I will say this though, the people who work in their fish department are knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely interested in fish. This is just a great grooming salon in Petco Cerritos. I called everyone 2 years ago, no one would groom a large dog. Brian answered and said of course they would groom my Giant Schnauzer. Raylene is the sweetest, most patient and amazing groomer. She is just a beautiful person, and takes her time to treat Kenny so well, and he always comes out so happy. Brian is also just the greatest guy. I could not be more grateful to have found these amazing friends. I would recommend them to everyone! read more

Usually we go to Petsmart for all of our cat products. The customer service there is decent but nothing ever above and beyond just average. Tonight I stopped at Petco in Cerritos since I was going in that direction. I walked in and got a standard greeting while I made my way to the cat department. I couldn't find a brand of food I usually buy so I asked an employee named Kim and she was so gracious enough to stop what she was doing (I'm assuming stock checks or restocking product on shelves) and guide me to some of the products she uses for her own cat. She was very knowledgeable and answered my questions in a professional but also personable way that made me feel valued as a customer. I thanked her then went to the front lane to check out. There was one customer in front of me with an issue for coupons or refund and the cashier called for assistance since she wasn't able to override this customers request without a supervisor or manager. Along came Kim to assist and when she was done she opened up a register to help me- I was the only person in back of the current customer in line and it probably wouldn't have been more than 2-3 minutes before the cashier was done with the current transaction and on to me. However, Kim was able to recognize that customers come first and instead of going back to the shelves she was working on she opened a register and helped me. An employee who can recognize and prioritize what matters is a huge asset to any company and by far Kim was able to recognize that even one customer waiting in line shouldn't have to wait. As she rang me up she asked about my cat and I told her that we had just adopted a kitten and without hesitation she whipped out a 'welcome to the family' booklet full of coupons and freebies! When speaking about litter she walked back to the section with me and up sold me on some great litter that I'm sure our cats will like. Petco- if someone in the corporate office reads this, please recognize Kim at the Cerritos location for her warm smile and gracious hospitality. I come to petco almost every other week since I have two puppies who need new treats and toys every so often. I recently came in when I got my second puppy chubbs and I brought him with me to go puppy shopping. I was approached by an employee whose name i forgot (sorry!) but she was SO nice and obviously loved my puppy because she continued to pet it every 5 second :) . She helped me find the best organic all natural puppy food,chew toys,de worming medicine and potty training stuff all in a 20 min span! The Petco at the Cerritos Town Center (originally located near Old Navys) relocated to a bigger place near Wal-Mart around 3 years ago? I hate corporate petstores...I know some Petcos and Petsmart are capable of taking excellent care of their animals, but that is so rare. Just last week, I stopped by to buy some medium sized crickets for my albino horned frog. I ask the guy for some medium crickets, and he gave me a bag of large crickets...Also, I don't recommend buying those 'Crickets Lunchbox' They aren't properly gut-loaded, because most crickets that are gut-loaded die within a few hours because of too much 'calcium etc'. They seem to have a steady ammount of live rodent feeders for you reptile keepers. Overcrowding is a big issue...plenty of animals are cramped into a small area. They keep around 5 or 6! iguanas in one cage...For the majority for their snake enclosures, the humidity isn't hight enough, so the snakes have trouble shedding. The positives are that they offer a HUGE variety of pet supplies. Tons of different dog and cat food. They also offer a grooming service and dog training lessons. Around once a week, there's usually cat adoptions availabe. Pet vaccinations are also offered every once in awhile. The store is relatively clean. They also have an aviary room for birds. Pet groomers and manager Jessica really unprofessional: I called to make an appointment for my puppy the only question they asked was what breed,I told them cane corso he said one minute and asked if anyone wanted a cane corso everyone yelled hell no and then he realized he didn't press the hold button. He pressed the hold button after, when he came back on the line he said they were fully booked today and tomorrow that I could call and check back to see if they was any openings. I replied that I heard everyone yell hell no but thanked him for his time. My husband called to talk with the manager Jessica and she was really rude and super unprofessional and made excuses for them. Guess they only take certain dogs maybe they should put that information up to the public. I took my husky to get groomed and the groomer was very mean to her. My husky had cuts on her ears and the funny thing is that I never asked for them to cut her hair. They were only supposed to de-shedded her. Went in for rabies shots and guy upsells me package for preventive health care which I didn't need and doesnt even do the rabies at all. I got back not knowing that happened and asked if I could get the rabiea certificate I need for licensing. Said sorry you didn't pay for that and now that we did the other shots he can't have the rabies shots come back next week and we can do it for free. I put my dog in pain for nothing. Stayed in the line for 70-75 mins before it was all done and that's all they can say! Fu** no I'm beyond pissed, disputing the charge, contacting corporate office and demanding my money back. I usually really HATE big petstore chains but the aquarium section here specifically is the reason why I come back. Zack is the most helpful person ive ever come across when it came to advice. Honestly fishkeeping isnt exactly a hobby many people get into because they see it as too much to take in. If you're starting off or considering starting, this would be a good place to get started. Many LFS carry higher quality livestock, but the prices there make this hobby very hard to spread around. 2 of my aquariums started from this place. Also my two dogs have been getting their supplies from here their entire lives. If you had to choose between the Petsmart across the parking lot or this Petco, dont be fooled by the less shinier store. Come here. read more

I am giving 5 stars mainly based on customer service. I was looking for a collar that my dog couldn't escape from. Dan was really nice and called a trainer(Chelsea) to help me. Chelsea explained all the different types of collars and even said I should bring my dog in to be properly fitted even though I was nervous she would react badly towards other dogs. Chelsea made me feel welcomed and offered training/socialization for my dog, vs. Other pet stores where I would be hesistant to bring my dog in because I wouldn't want to be kicked out if my dog were to growl at another dog. Based on this I could really tell that the employees care about their customers and the well being of their pets :) read more

I took my Levi in for his first haircut back in 2015. I was extremely pleased with the outcome. I have continued to take him back ever since, because not only does he get a great looking haircut every time, his groomer ILI treats him with kindness. I always get asked " were does Levi gets his haircut" I have had bad experiences in the past with other groomers . I finally found the best groomer in town!!!!. I've been here a few times since I work nearby. It's located in the same plaza as Walmart. The staff is friendly and the service is quick! Everything is well arranged and organized. They always have the type of food I buy for my doggie and the squeaky KONG tennis balls my dog loves! It's a bit pricey, but I don't know where else to buy those things :( They also sell typical pet store animals: rabbits, hamsters, snakes, and fishes. They have a grooming service as well. read more

Sadly , I have to give them 3 stars.The girls that we usually have are 5 stars all the way. Today they weren't there nice guy was there and pleasant, but said that he couldn't complete my dogs nail clip because she showed her teeth at him. We've been coming to PetCo for about 8 yrs and never had an issue. Everyone loves my big dog and she always gets the highest of marks when at doggie day care, overnight or anything she does. Must just be a personality mismatch. She got 1/2 of a pedicure :( and they charged me for the whole thing. Both dogs smell great! Sad to say... We will be getting a new groomer! read more

Took my dog there for a bath...$40 and 4 hours later my dog looked fine and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. She's a bit sensitive after baths so I figured the itching was just a reaction that I'd seen before and normally goes away after a few days. Well it's been a couple weeks now and I'm noticing the itching hasn't stopped. She's NEVER had fleas before. Tonight I decided to take a closer look and see if she might have developed a rash again. She thinks it's time for belly rubs and won't let me get a close look. I finally got to her bare skin on her belly and sure enough she now has FLEAS. She's my only dog and she hasn't been near any other dogs since the bath. When I dropped her off I was told that if she had fleas they would give her a treatment and charge me for it but would let me know. I went to pick her up and not a word other than "she did really good!" This is pretty frustrating. My son adores her and now he won't go near her. Definitely not going back there. read more

We are very loyal to this Petco and for good reason! When we first adopted our puppy, we came to Petco for all the supplies we needed. They have a good selection and everything is easy to find. The store always looks organized and clean. Then we took our puppy to training class and it was so helpful! Our pup really benefited and the price was reasonable. Now we take our guy here for his regular grooming appointments and the people who work in the grooming station couldn't be nicer! They are always so sweet with our dog. Everyone who works there is so friendly and you can tell they just really like animals! Highly recommend this store for anyone in the area! read more

They have the worst attitude in the store not just one person but it seems like every person that works in the store has the worst attitude, I was walking around the store with my kids looking at the pets one of the workers tells my small daughter not to lean on the glass while my daughter is looking at these chinchillas there is no sign on there that says anything about looking at the chinchillas one I was standing next to my daughter and she was not leaning she was staring at the chinchillas she wasn't even tapping on the glass like for this girl or employee ending to say anything to my daughter the girl already had a really bad attitude like she hates her job made it seem like we are not allowed to look at any of the animals they have their which to me seems dumb because aren't they for sale anyways that got on my nerves not going to lie but my kids are pretty well-behaved they were doing what any normal person and child would do which was looking at the animals or the the pets I mean, so then after that I decided we need to go I can deal with these people's attitude and go to check out which I was there to buy some food for my turtles and the person which is a guy employee is about to check me out and his attitude was like he didn't even have the energy to speak if I really did not need any food for my pets I wouldn't have purchased anything there this is the last time I step into this Petco read more

Between PetSmart and Petco, Petco takes the cake for best customer service. Within the same shopping center there's a petsmart, which was my first choice to visit. I'm a new dog owner, so I didn't know which store to visit first. The service at the PetSmart was mediocre, just your typical "are you finding everything ok?" The following day I decided to visit Petco. Upon entrance you're greeted and asked what you can be helped with. While inside Petco, I was browsing the kibble section. I seek for help since I didn't know what was best kibble for my husky. I encountered a tall gentleman who I thought was security given his physique but I was stunned to find out he was the manager. His name was Tim and he walked me around the kibble section and went in depth on every brand and it's nutritional value. The top 3 brands he recommended were Orijen, Arcana and Taste of the Wild, which were best sellers. I decided to go with Arcana. Tim then recommended other things such as treats, dental chews and other products that are beneficial. I was honestly amazed by the customer service I was given. Also, while checking out I was given a booklet that contained coupons for dog food and information for new dog owners, which PetSmart didn't do. This is definitely going to be my goto store for all my pet needs! read more

In March I took all three of our Huskies to be groomed at Petco. The groomer made no mention of any problems so I paid and took them home. A few hours later I took them off for a walk and tried to feed them dinner but none of them were hungry. Our male started eating four days later, along with one of our females. The last female didn't eat until the 7th day. I called Petco and asked if any of the other dogs that they had groom that day were sick because all three of mine appeared to be ill, and that person said she wasn't working on that day but she would leave a message for the grooming manager. I never heard back from the grooming manager. I had called and made an appointment for that husky with the vet. She was making unusual sounds when she was breathing so he took some x-rays and we ended up taking her to a specialist who said she had something called pneumothorax. A condition where most vets see a dog that has been hit by a car or dropped or hit severely. I told him as far as I knew obviously none of that had happened. July 31 I took the dogs to the groomer again, but this time only two dogs because one had passed away in May. When I brought them home and walked them later on at least they ate but the female was sensitive on her back as if she was injured. I called Petco the next day and asked to speak to the grooming manager who said as far as she knew nothing like that had happened to my dog in terms of her falling or being hit etc. needless to say I am very concerned about taking my dogs back to Petco grooming. They did a very good job of grooming but this is two times in a row now that something appears to of happened to our dogs. read more

Um, Petco always gets the job done when the pooch needs a haircut. But, that's most commonly the extent of quality. Sometimes I can see extra care was taken on the trimming how hair and nails but sometimes I pick up my dog and say WTF. Don't just shave my dog... I can do that . Have fun. The groomers have always been so sweet here and professional...however, my last experience was not pleasant for my little angel or myself. I took her in for her grooming. When I returned back to the store, I could hear a poor little doggie crying and yelping, when I went to the groomers section, I realized it was my little angel...they were clipping her nails and this is what was making her cry and yell. I had them stop and paid for the grooming and left. I rate this place a 3 star, because they are exceptional groomers, but I feel they lack experience in clipping nails...plus the store is always clean, organized and shelves stock. I will just take my angel to another groomers and you can be sure, I will have them clip her nails in front of me, because I don't want her to go through experience again. read more

I usually have an okay experience at Petco. Normally customer service is average, they'll be nice to you but it's hard to find help since there's few workers working at a time. I recently visited this store and the service was total crap, I apologize for my language but it really was. It was hard to find help but that normal to me because everyone was everywhere, but that's not even why it was crap. I was looking at grooming supplies and looking at reviews for them on Petco.com so I know what to get and I noticed prices online were cheaper than in-store. So I went to look for a worker to ask if they price match. I noticed a woman named Donna cleaning the cat cages, she looked busy so I tried to find someone else for help, but after failing to find someone else I asked her. "Excuse me, I was just wondering if you price matched because I noticed that online this product I'm interested in is cheaper online than in-store". She looked at me real quick and continued to clean, I was literally standing there waiting for her to respond to me for almost a minute. Finally her response was "Yeah..." I waited there for another moment in case she had something more to say but I ended up just walking away because she didn't have anything more. As I walked away she proceeded to say "We always price match.." Like really? After waiting you're going to say more as I leave. At that point I was over it and I just said "Oh really, okay thank you" I was looking through the grooming section for a while because I was trying to look up the prices for other products, unfortunately the internet connection at this store is very slow so I was standing there for a while. As I was looking I can hear her yelling at the cats "Stop it!" "I'm getting tired of you!" She wasn't threatening the cats but it was very unpleasant hearing her yell at them loud enough for maybe the entire store can hear her. After collecting my items I went to pay, unfortunately Donna was there to help me at the register. As she approached the register she didn't even say hello to me, she just proceeded to scan my items. "I'm sorry but all of my items need a price match" She looked at me and proceeded to price match and needed to call her manager to override the system. "It's going to take a while my manager needs to override it." she said. Her manager came and to her manager she said "You might as well stay here, everything she has needs a price change." Alright.. that's kinda rude to speak to your manager like that and kinda rude to be speaking about me as if I'm inconveniencing you. After all the price changes were done, she doesn't even tell me the total, she just leaned there and waited. I put my card in but I noticed it wasn't going through. "Uhm the light isn't on" She turned on the light and I continued to pay. She then says "You didn't even put in your number for your pals card. Do you have one?"" I then respond by saying "I do but you didn't ask for it, and it's too late now" She then says "Well next time you have to put it in because I could get in trouble if you don't do that especially since you have price changes" Alright so it's my fault I didn't put in my number in, even though you didn't ask me. It is also my fault that you could get in trouble because I didn't my number in. Alright.. like that makes any sense. During all of my visits to petco, I 'm pretty sure it is policy to ask about the pals card before payment, every employee that helped me has done that. That was the end of the transaction, she continued to complain about the company about how they are lenient about policy and sometimes not. I just left I was over my visit by then. She obviously hates her job, hates the company, and not very good at customer service. I rather go all the way to the Lakewood or Buena Park Petco than go back to the Cerritos location with the chance of meeting this employee again. read more

this store is typical, im glad they have one so close to my house. my dog has allergies and is on a grain-free diet, so thank goodness for that naturals section inside! i really like the new buy 10 get 1 free bag of food they have with the PALS card. the only problem is they seem to not care when there's a line, because there will be 2 or 3 cashiers close to the front cash registers, but only one will be open, and the other two will be talking to the one ringing people up. other than that though, its a clean, easy store read more
