I'm disappointed with how my grooming appointment was handled. I originally booked an appointment through the Petco website and later switched to an earlier available time slot that appeared online. Since the booking was confirmed, I made arrangements around that appointment. The following day, I received a call informing me that they would not be able to groom my dog after all because there was supposedly a glitch in the system. It was frustrating to learn that an appointment I had successfully booked was not actually available. I was told they would work with me to find another time, but no same-day options were offered. Instead, they suggested Monday, which conflicted with my work schedule, and then the following weekend, which also did not work for me. Overall, I'm disappointed with the experience. The online booking system should accurately reflect availability, and customers should not have to rearrange their schedules only to have their appointments canceled due to internal scheduling issue. My most recent experience was awful. I was ignored as I went from aisle to aisle looking for something while two employees continued to have a conversation for several minutes without not one "Can I help you find something?" No acknowledgement, no hello, zero. My frustrations grew as I saw those same employees ask a man who had just passed them by for assistance and they both immediately went to help. I'm glad they at least acknowledged someone. Once I finally found what I needed, I made my way up to the front to pay. I was greeted briefly by a gentleman before reaching check out which was the first acknowledgement since I entered the store. As soon as I finished paying, I informed the associate that I was also picking up an order. She seemed annoyed from the very beginning. Which was odd considering she seemed fine and friendly just moments before she started assisting me, when speaking to her male coworker. It shouldn't feel like the customer is causing an inconvenience to the associate, but that's exactly how I left feeling. Please do better. It doesn't hurt to be kind and helpful when you see a customer. These types of interactions can always leave a lasting impression. read more

I spoke to a woman that looked to be latina had eyelashes on more on the heavier side and had dark long hair pulled back. Extremely rude. Whenever I go and communicate with her she always has an attitude and is always in a bad mood. Really uncomfortable as a dog owner to wanna leave your dog with her. I called today to ask if it was okay to come in for a nail trim just to be considerate if they were busy or not and when I asked if they were busy she said why? Im like... It was my first time at this location. I was a bit turn off from not being greeted upon entering but I got over it. When another assistant came from the back she immediately greeted me and told me to have a seat and she'd be right with me. It didn't take long to be checked in and see the vet. The veterinarian was kind and patient and I felt as though she really listened to my concerns. All in all I had a very nice visit and even though this location is further from my home I will definitely return. read more

Terrible experience at this Petco Grooming location. The groomer Alyssa didn't even introduce herself--she walked in, said nothing, and started touching my dog Zeke from behind. Completely rude and unprofessional. When I picked up Zeke, I found a cut on his left shoulder (photo attached). No one told me about it or took any responsibility. That's completely unacceptable and shows a lack of care. The woman at the front desk gave me a hard time when I asked to pick up my dog first before paying. I've never had issues like that at other Petco locations. Even walking through the store, the employees were unhelpful and didn't seem to care at all. The store itself was a very nice Petco, I loved the cute clothes they had for the pets, however RAYLEEN was EXTREMELY RUDE to me. When I approached the register a man was finishing his purchase and RAYLEEN was very nice and chatty with him. When I approached the register her attitude was like night and day. She didn't acknowledge me and kept her head down. So I said "hello" she blatantly ignores me and I'm AT the register. She proceeds to ring me up. She did ask if I had a phone number registered. But just a lot of rude energy. Once I was done a couple came behind me and in her kindest, most excited voice RAYLEEN says "hi! How are you today?" I had barely walked away from the register...I'm a black woman, those she helped before and after me were not, and this was how I was dealt with... ...this petco was my first stop after evacuating from LA due to the fires. Vulnerable Senior Citizens Beware A very close relative is 82 years old and had a stroke earlier this year, which has affected her mental processes. She and her caregiver took her dog to Petco in Cerritos CA just get a rabies shot. They also brought a coupon they had received for a free veterinary exam. They ended up with getting a lot of extra services, which was not their original intent. These services could have been gotten elsewhere and at a later date. The total cost was $631.15. Because the shot was included in some kind of package deal, it isn't possible to figure out from the bill what it would have been if they just got the rabies shot. However online it says, "The cost of a rabies shot at Petco typically ranges from $19 to $35, depending on your location and whether you choose a 1-year or 3-year vaccine." So they ended up paying almost $600 more than if they just got the shot they went to Petco for. I received a request to provide feedback to a Petco online survey of customer satisfaction. I gave them the lowest rating and explained it was because they took advantage of a very vulnerable senior citizen. I received an email response that thanked me for the feedback but saying they couldn't do anything about the "pricing." However the issue was not the cost of services. The response completely ignored the fact that my relative was manipulated into getting a number of very expensive services that were not what she planned to do there. I replied to the email to explain that doing things better in the future, as they suggested, didn't fix the problem with the previous visit. However the person who emailed me "will be out of office 9/19-9/30," so I'm not going to get any response until then to my email reply to that person's email. Maybe they think I'll just forget about it? Bottom line, I recommend not doing business with Petco. If you still might consider them, check around to see where else you might get the services you want and what they cost elsewhere. read more

This place just sucks at caring for their animals. Came in to buy some conditioner for my aquariums, and found most bettas at the brink of death. I have 5 aquariums up and running able to house 5 of them. I offered to adopt their female because of how horrible she looked, if they said yes I would offer to buy the other 4. It took 5 female employees going back and forth to tell me that they can't due to some policy about needing them on the shelf for at least 3months before they can DISCOUNT then another three months before they can even consider adoption. This review is to express my sincerest disappointment. It has taken me awhile to submit this because I was hopeful that my situation would be rectified. I don't want to mention any names, I want this review to be used to bring awareness to the importance of quality customer service. I had been bringing my dog to Petco for over 13 years before she suddenly passed away in 2023. We only had to change groomers once due to the initial groomer leaving. I was assigned a new groomer and she was awesome. We experienced some changes (new location, hiatus from working), but we continued to work with her. We had exchanged numbers to communicate, developed a working relationship (I thought), and mutual respect for one another. After my fur baby passed, I was gifted with another puppy and continued grooming services. For whatever reason, the services changed and were less than satisfactory. I thought that maybe it was because this a new puppy, or maybe a new shift...I didn't know what was going on but there was definitely a change. I made an appointment and was prepared to take my pup in to get groomed. I spoke with the groomer and she advised that she would be late to the appointment but that it would be fine to bring my pup in to be groomed. I took off of work to take her in and, when I was about 8 minutes away from the location (mind you, I had been driving for almost 40 minutes), I received a call from the location advising that my groomer would not be able to groom my dog because she would not be in that day. Wait...what? I literally had just spoken to the groomer the day before and she told me she would be late! I couldn't understand why she had not texted me or said anything to me. I asked the person on the phone if I could still bring my dog in because I was so close and she told me, "no, you won't be able to bring her in because there's only 2 groomers here today". That's it. No resolution, No apology. Just a canceled appointment. I was livid and hurt. I couldn't believe the blatant disregard of my time and the lack of resolution. That was 2/6 and to this day, I still haven't heard from the groomer or the location. I have been searching for another groomer since that time because it isn't easy to trust just anyone with your dog. To Petco and the grooming staff, I completely understand that your job is important and requires a level of patience and caring-but it should also encompass empathy and professionalism. For over 13 years, I was a customer that showed appreciation and respect, yet that respect was not reciprocated. There is no easy way to say this but please: DO BETTER. Your future customers and fur babies deserve it. Would I return to this location? Absolutely NOT. Will I return to Petco: Unsure. read more

I took my dog for a grooming appointment at this petco. I normally go to a different location but we moved and this was closer so I thought I'd give it a try. The greeting wasn't great to begin with. The groomer was Alyssa and I asked for a trim because I did not want his fur to be super short. I used the term scissor cut because that's what my previous groomer said to me. They told me they don't have clippers that can do that so if they have to use scissors, it would be an extra charge. I didn't have a problem with the extra charge so I agreed. After getting home, I noticed that his nails were barely trimmed. I didn't want to make a big deal of it so I let it go. About a month later, I tried to make an appointment through the app and the message said based on my pet's personalized needs, I would need to call my local petco for an appointment. I believe they put a flag or note on my account that prevented me from making new appointments through the app. I called and asked them if they could remove it because I wasn't planning on bringing my dog back there but they said they couldn't. I would have to contact a different petco and if they were ok with my dog's grooming needs, they can remove it. I never had an issue before at the previous location. When I picked up my dog, she should have advised me of this. She didn't say anything to me. I only found out when I tried to book his next appointment. I wish the communication was better. I did not mean that they couldn't use clippers, I just didn't want them to shave his fur super short. I don't think it was necessary to flag my account. For the amount they charge, I'm better off going to a small grooming business. Needless to say, I will not be bringing my dog back there. read more

I came to get the meds and was told that the ca t fill the order because it's been past one month. No one told me this and I paid slot of $$$. I will take my business elsewhere. Shame on Petco for charging me for the heart worm test and then refilling the meds personal staff and Vet did not informing me that the prescription would not be honored if the meds are not given in a 30 day period. read more

Petco in Cerritos is not a very good grooming place at all. They refused to groom our dog all of the sudden without warning. They said he barks too much and wanted to charge us extra $ 30.00 for barking . When we were not willing to do that they refused further appointments and told us our dog is also too old ( he is 11 years old and in great health) . We felt really blindsided because we had taken our dog to this location for over a year. To make matters worse they put a note so that no other Petco would groom our dog. Luckily we found a Petco in La Habra who willingly accepted our dog. We are very happy with current location even though it is a bit out of our way. read more

I've been bringing in my miniature schnauzer here for over a year. I go in about every 6-8 weeks and have had a satisfactory experience every time. Vai and her team of groomers take good care of my pup. He gets nervous around other dogs and I was worried at first but he gets better and better about going every time. We've been coming to this Petco for grooming for about 8 months now. We started while we were living in Cerritos and always went with Vailili as our groomer. She's so gentle with our dog (Kona) and does a wonderful job every time. She pays attention to his needs and I super appreciate her patience with him. We moved to Tustin not too long ago so we thought we should try the Tustin location Petco just for the sake of distance, but will probably never go back there. My dog came back with three of his paws bleeding because they were nicked. Long story short, we decided that driving 30 min to the Cerritos Petco Grooming is worth it because they always do an amazing job. Gave me half explained instructions and got mad at me for not bringing a form she never gave me and started arguing about it. Ive left several messages and no ones bothered to call me back. $400 later and still no answers, save your money and ho to a real vet. When I was actively searching for a bird, I visited about 10 different Petco/PetSmart stores (as well as mom-and-pop pet stores and specialty parrot stores). I saw tons of stores that just stuck their poor birds in white cages with horrible short smooth dowels. Their workers at times wouldn't even give me a passing glance or greeting even if they saw me obviously interested in their very expensive birds. Some may say that they intentionally keep their animals in poor conditions to elicit sympathy from their customers, in a bid to get them to buy the animal out of pity. I disagree - it absolutely killed any desire I had to drop over half a grand in their stores. I'm here to tell my story, and it's a simple one: this Petco location worked hard to provide great conditions for my new family member while he spent his time in their care, and they did it the right way. It took me around 2 months to finally decide to bring home my green cheek conure, and the reason I chose him out of all the other sweet and lonely birds I met in my journey was because this Petco had their sh*t together. They had him in a very large enclosure (width and height) with tons of perches and toys he could actually reach. He had a name (Avocado) and a bio (which must have been outdated because it said he was shy - he was a total charmer when I started visiting)! I visited him at least once a week before buying him, sometimes 2-3x a week. On around my 4th or so visit, the manager (Patty?) noticed my interest in him and approached me asking if I'd like to bring him home! She told me a little bit about his backstory: he was a transfer from a neighboring store and that he totally came out of his shell in their care. I could tell she truly cared about this bird, and it showed in the way other employees all had a little story about interacting with him when I made subsequent visits. I loved when I got a chance to chat with them, but I also liked that they gave me space to interact with him on my own and get to know his amazing personality! :D They were honest about the realities of parrot care, too. Some even mentioned that they had someone take a conure home and bring him back a week later because he was "too nippy," and warned me not to do the same! None of the workers were pushy or manipulative in their sales tactics. If anything, they just felt like their genuine selves to me. After much deliberation, I was finally ready to bring him home. the employee we spoke with said that we had to come back when the manager was working (the next morning) because he was a special case and she had to personally approve the home he went to. They even gave me a bunch of tips to prove we'd be a good fit for him, which showed me they weren't going to let just anybody take him home without having the proper set up and knowledge. It helped that it turned out the manager owned a Grey herself, and it showed me that a manager can really make or break a store's animal care. She seemed very moved when she collected him from his enclosure, and other patrons and workers came by to express their surprise that Avocado was finally going home! Months later he is so happy and healthy and a part of the family. I have these people to thank for his demeanor and they made my experience getting him an absolute treasure! :) There is a second manager here as well, I believe his name is Steven? He was also incredibly kind and helpful! About a month or so after purchasing my conure I came in to request a complicated and large transaction with multiple gift cards. He didn't even hesitate in accommodating me and was super patient throughout. It might just be my experience, but it seems that he and Patty are doing a great job running the store and keeping both customers and their workers happy. Before I took my conure home, I remember him sharing funny little stories about how he would hang out on their shoulders after store's closing. They canceled my appointment on the spot, because during a casual conversation, I revealed that my pup has a heart murmur. He had this for a while, and his cardiologist says he's doing okay. They said that I would need a doctor's note to get the grooming appointment, never mind that my dog has been groomed there since he was a pup and multiple times with the heart murmur. He loves to be groomed, but none of them know that because they got rid of their staff that's been there for years. All I know is that if they were so concerned about pets, they would have asked the necessary questions before giving me an appointment. I left during my lunch break all for nothing. Boo is one picky little princess. I have struggled to feed him food he liked for so many months to the point I was spending money on random brands and wet foods none of which stuck for him. My mom suggested going to Petco since all the food I've tried from Petsmart hasn't been working. We both looked pretty confused looking for food/treats for Boo, but luckily saw Tim for assistance. After a few simple questions, he was able to provide insightful knowledge on small dogs and what they tend to eat..he recommended the Orijen brand because it was heavier on protein portions. He also recommended True Chew treats. Literally, I have had zero issues feeding Boo after that trip to Petco thanks to Tim. I've had similar discussions with people from Petsmart and no one was able to give me the amount of info Tim was able to.
