I don't shop at Petco much as the closest one to me is in a high traffic area but I went in the other day and was surpassingly greeted as I came in which was nice. I was looking for a particular item and having difficulty finding it and a worker was walking by with a packed cart and saw I was clearly puzzled and stopped to ask if I needed help and she was able to point me in the right direction. Sadly, that's uncommon these days. I would have totally expected her to keep on moving since she had a tall, very packed cart of work to do. Very sad to see so many mice in a tiny glass tank. Overcrowded. Not a way for any living thing to have to survive. Also many birds in a metal cage with very little room for movement and stimulation. Absolutely poor uneducated customer service. How could you possibly say that Amazon is not a competitor. How ridiculous Amazon is a competitor for everyone. You are a pet store and you're selling an item for three times as much as Amazon is what's wrong here? When you first walk in it's dark and silent, you have to walk around to find someone to help you and they weren't busy so not sure why no one was available until we were ready to leave then someone appeared. The vibe is empty and quiet. read more

To be honest this place is about average.. I see a lot of polar opposite reviews (I.e., 1 or 5 stars). The staff is a mixed bag: there are some very helpful workers who have great opinions on products and accept donations for local shelters. There's also subpar workers who are likely just there to collect a paycheck. It's really luck of the draw. I will say that this store is severely lacking in cat products (that's my pet of choice), and this is the same across the board for petco's. If you have a cat it's probably best to shop online (i.e., Petco or chewy) and save the gas. I can't comment on grooming or vet as we don't use these services. read more

Went here after eating dinner at the restaurant nearby to buy food for my dog and cats. At the checkout, the staff was very rude and unorganized. The other employee next to her was on her phone and nonchalantly sipping on an iced coffee instead of taking customers from the long checkout line. When we were leaving, we mistakenly grabbed a few extra cans of dog food that were already there because they were placed right next to the ones we just paid for. The employee checking us out rudely and harshly stopped us, asking for the receipt to verify what items we had purchased. She didn't offer us a bag so we were awkwardly carrying tins of dog food, cat litter, and many other supplies in our arms. We were flustered and embarrassed. Obviously we didn't intend to take extra food but it was confusing because of the employee's disorganization. I do not recommend this petco to any pet owners. Like other reviews said "the help is no help." We found everything on our own, browsing on our own, no employees offered help. You might as well do an Amazon go situation and put a self checkout so as to save money on employee salaries since they are providing any value. read more

I just tried their curbside pickup. It was an odd experience. Of course, I paid online. I drove to the store and went to the pickup area. An employee looked over as if I was standing in the wrong place. I looked up at the sign that marked the pickup area and said I was there to pick up an order. After having some trouble, the employee found the stroe'stablet and walked over and shouted "what are he last 4 digits of your order number??" I shouted the numbers back. She asked my name in a similar loud and abrupt manner. I will not use this service again. Maybe that is the point of the behavior - to discourage ordering for pickup. read more

Been to several different Petcos in Nassau, Queens NY, and some out of states ones. Got to say this is got to be the best one. The manager is so nice and will try to solve the problem for you (I had a problem with my Vital Care acct that she personally fixed and will no longer be an issue). The store is always stocked with my dog's favorite treats (the sandwich cookies). And I've got to say the groomer Lorena D. is now my favorite groomer in the area. You can tell when you first drop off the dog, where she is very calm, patient, and gentle with him. When he's done, my dog wasn't even that stressed when I picked him up, like some other places I took him to get grooming done. This one is a little out of the way for me, but if they are the best one, it's worth the trip!! read more

My puppy Ellie usually gets groomed here by Sasha, who is wonderful, but they weren't taking online appointments and they had scheduled her instead with someone named Denise for 2/28/21. She never showed up with no call so Sasha helped me reschedule for as soon as possible with someone named Miareggia J (who goes by "Reggie") and she completely messed up the cut. My puppy's fur was not matted and she claimed it was because she messed up and shaved her down to the SKIN. Her chest (which is very soft fur) is completely bare, she shaved HALF of her tail, and cut her face unevenly. Even if the fur was matted (which it was not) she shaved her body unevenly and when I called the store to complain, she had a nasty attitude. My boyfriend picked her up bc I was at work and she knew she messed up bc she offered him a 20% discount and gave him two dog treats to take home. Had I been the one to pick her up, I wouldn't have paid for this. "Reggie" asked if I'd like to speak to the manager and I said yes and she sent me to the store's voicemail. Please tell me if this cut is worth $70 after a 20% discount. read more

Worse experience will never take my dog there again. My 7 month old mini goldendoodle named Biscuit was scheduled for a grooming. Never has he had an issue with anyone. Even at the Petco store 2 customers and an employee interacted with him. Played with and petted Biscuit, he was fine. The person who checks in the dogs asked us to walk away while examining him, he comes back and tells us he can't take Biscuit because he petted his paws and he growled, literally stated to me and my 2 sons and this is a direct quote , "it might be me that Biscuit doesn't like, he might do fine with the actual groomers, but I don't feel comfortable with him going in there" his co-worker was literally playing with Biscuit and even came back and gave him a treat, like i said 2 other customers played and petted Biscuit no problem.... I only went there because my other groomer was booked for a week, when leaving one of the customers, an old lady who just played with him was shocked that they denied Biscuit grooming...my appointment was for 2:15pm, April 5 2024. Everything i stated I'm sure is on one of the several surveillance systems the store has just in case anyone wants to challenge my review. I will never go there again for grooming and I'm considering finding another store tobuy my food from, its Long Island NY we have pet stores and groomers all around... Shitty petco, got every documents ready, but still declined the dog because of its age ... and then I gave dog daily check up report , vaccine shot and everything and they don't know how to read it or accept it. Pretty awful place to be . Highly not recommended. I repeat really upsetting came all the way here then they declined me due to age and because they can't read a dog report.... Vaccine formed provided. Everything was good in any grooming but this one is just a pain. Recommend not to go. I recommend this store to change management for sure. Came all the way here from Brooklyn because they're the only store in 50 miles that had an item I needed. Online hours state the store opens at 10; they don't open until 10:30. There were several people with 10 am grooming appointments that missed their appointments as well. They really need to get it together and change the time on the website and google/Yelp. read more

We've used Carle Place Petco before for grooming (Melanie) and it was great. Our bernedoodle was getting shaggy so we took him into get trimmed. We were helped by Halane when we arrived this morning. She was specifically told do NOT cut the hair on top of his head at all. She explicitly told us for cut lengths on his body there was only two options 3/4" and an even shorter option. My partner, was confused as to why but said okay to the 3/4". Our poor dog looks absolutely horrendous now. The cut is uneven all over the place. He has parts of his muzzle that are completely chopped. The right side has a random tuft so he appears to have half a Fu Man Chu mustache. His hears have been completely butchered as well. Half of his tail is shaved and the other half is chopped at random it seems. His eyebrows are completely uneven, I did a better job with seeing scissors a few months ago. Rather than doing what we asked, Halane chose to do what she wanted and our poor dogs hair was butchered for the fine fee of $110. This job was awful and I could've done a better job with the clippers I have at home. Halane chose to lie to the manager, Alan, saying that my partner said he looked beautiful when she picked him up. That was simply false as my partner was in shock as to what had been done to him and didn't have a word to say. The only saving grace to this story is that the manager, Alan, was extremely understanding and polite. We were given a full refund and he let us know in the future to ask for Melanie for any of our grooming needs. read more

This place is huge! Filled wall to wall with all things animal. They have food, treats and toys for every animal group. They also sell fish, reptiles, amphibians and ferrets!! I like that they have a large natural food section and with their reward card there's always good sales. The store was recently renovated and they made it easy to navigate. They also offer grooming as well as adoption days. Best of all they let you bring your pet in so they can shop for what they want. Just make sure you have them do their business before you go in. read more

I went to PETCO Westbury place to buy a couple of fishes but this Valerie P. instead of helping us she's preventing us from buying it. She keeps on asking us questions on "how big is our aquarium, what fishes do we have on it, On your new aquarium, is it on and running?". So whenever we respond to her questions, she'll be like you "can only buy one for that size of aquarium. Oh you have to set up your aquarium first and have it running before buying a fish" and I'm like, First of, I'm paying for the fishes. This rude VALERIE was preventing us from buying one. Next appointment wasn't available until 2 weeks later. There's an older woman with black hair there with a nasty attitude. No professionalism at all. Petco is a cute, complete, pet store that has good prices on pretty much any pet-related items you may be looking for. They sell reptiles, small rodents (hamsters, gerbils, mice), birds and fish. They have a huge variety of dog and cat foods as well as dog bones and treats. If you're looking for serious hobbyist-exclusive stuff for any one particular type of animal, Petco is probably not the place to go. read more

I like shopping at petco, I have a 3 year old yorkie who I get treats for about once a month from this location in carle place on old country road. However, there "customer service" needs a make over ASAP. I've never once been asked if i need help with anything, If I found everything ok, if I have my pals card,etc. it's kind of sad shopping at a place that caters for your fur babies but have staff that don't seem to care about customers or animals. My opinion. Sara, who seems to ALWAYS be at the registers when I happen to visit the shop, she is a sad, unkind, maybe a little prodigious type of person. Few times, on different visits, I've asked her about certain items and she's not helpful at all. I've always gotten " u can get it online" or "I don't no" If you don't know, maybe you should find out? Ask someone else? Or just don't work there anymore. She's not a friendly person at all! Standard PetCo nothing exceptional. They have a better selection of toys for dogs than the PetCo by my house. Never a problem finding parking unless its the holiday season since Toys R Us is right next door. Getting rung up always seems to take longer than it should but it seems to feel that way at all PetCo stores. Check the PetCo website for things like vet clinics, adoption events and pet photo events that they have at the stores sometimes. read more

The first time it went well the second time was a horror story. To make a long story short I witness my dog being mishandled through the glass It was the most horrifying thing to see. My dog is very well behaved his old groomer had moved away so I was nervous to find a new one. Apparently the women melissa that cut his hair didn't know what she was doing he had already been there 3 hours and still wasn't finished even after they called me to come pick him up. I saw from a distance she was grabbing and pulling him very rough which I don't even do to him. I immediately ran over to stop her. Nothing was done except they gave me a refund and told me after looking at the video I was right and he was abused. Probably for the 3 hour prior to when I saw as well. The lady is lucky I didnt threaten or hurt her for not only hurting my dog but making me witness it is a horror. He was shaking full of hair and chopped up all over the place . Brought my cavalier there for a bath and she came back smelling amazing and looked super soft!! Appointment was easy enough to make where we didn't need to call a few weeks back or something. It was about $30, which is a little above average in my opinion? The only thing I didn't like is you can't even see what they do to the dog at all which makes me nervous about how they treat them when us pet owners aren't there.
