Ashlynn was a huge help, and very friendly. Out of all the Petco's I've shopped at, this location in Butte, Montana has been by far my best experience. The store was clean, well organized, and the sales associates were friendly and helpful! Other Petco's I've been to (Utah), seem to struggle with customer service. I was disappointed with my dog's grooming appointment. I specifically requested and paid for a deshedding treatment, but when I picked him up, his fur was still shedding excessively. It didn't seem like the deshedding service made much of a difference. The staff was friendly, but I expected better results based on the service I requested. If you're paying extra for deshedding, you should be able to notice a significant improvement. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. read more

So I've now lost all but one fish from my smaller 60 gallon tank. I now know what the fish from Petco had...called 'Ich'. Wish I had known before I put them in my 100 gallon tank. I cleaned out small tank completely and bought a new filter from Petsmart in Helena. I decided to put all the fish there and sell my 100 gallon tank. I'm so upset, 2 weeks ago I had 2 beautiful tanks with happy fish...until I went to Petco cause I was worried about a little extra algae. So I transferred 3 large cichlids, one silver dollar, one placadomus and 3 convict/parrot mix...2 days ago. I didn't see any white spots on them yet but started treating the water yesterday anyway. This morning I lost one of the parrot cichlids and now see the white spots on all of the except the placadomus. I'm so heartbroken, if you've never had an aquarium maybe you can't relate but these are my pets Ive cared for for years. So far I've lost 13 fish in one week...Petco is 100% to blame, I have no doubt in my mind they sold me sick fish. I urge anyone thinking of buying any pet from the Butte store to run! read more

I showed back on that Thursday and was once again told no they were getting them tomorrow. we have 1 pet store for fish needs in our town & have had 2 bad experiences with Brandon that works there! The second time of his rude behavior was enough, I will drive to Helena to Pet Smart to grab my fish aquarium needs from now on. I have called Petco corporate office to complain of his behavior & their awful website not being kept up to date and always being out of A LOT of their items, but didn't get anywhere with that. Also, have 2 big dogs & 4 cats that we purchase (locally) all their food items & care needs thru. Well that also has come to an end! On Wednesday November 8th my husband and I stopped by the store to talk to the manager about a double charge made the week prior. Our card was charged twice for a $50 order when the cashier had said that it didn't go through the first time. When we told Jason, the manager about the situation he started looking up transactions on the register, writing down numbers on a piece of paper. After a couple minutes and no conversation with us he turned and started to walk away. I asked what he could do for us and he said he'd have to look into it (as he was still walking away). I had also planned to talk to him about the fish we had purchased over the last couple months and how none of them have survived. I asked him if there's been any issues with the fish and explained how we've never had issues before but the last three visits we've purchased fish and they've all died. I mentioned that there are signs on the tanks that say "not for sale under observation" and I asked if they were sick. He defensively and rudely said they are new fish being watched. I asked again if there was any type of refund or in store credit he could offer. He just shrugged and said, "no" with attitude and proceeded to walk off. I then asked again, "what about the double charge?" He didn't respond and continued to walk away and through a door. To say we're displeased is an understatement. As a manager of a store he should be professional and at least try and resolve an issue. We remained professional and communicated clearly our concerns. He didn't have the decency to even talk to us, instead demonstrate annoyance and attitude. It was quite obvious that we were putting him out. We will never return to this store. It is also very unfortunate that we were charged double for fish that didn't live even a week, not to mention all the other fish that we've purchased over the last couple months that have died. I've had a tank for a year with no issues, my assumptions are that they have sick fish and continue to sell them. This all could have been resolved with a little bit of customer service, instead of the disrespect we received. read more

I am so disappointed in this petco. Shelves are always empty. Store looks like it's going out of business. Not sure if it is poor management or no management. They have reptiles for sale, but have been out of calcium powder for at least 3 weeks. That is an item that should be a never out. Tarantulas are housed in humid enclosures. This can cause added stress and molting problems. This isn't a problem for the store but the customer who buys this unhealthy animal will inherit the problem. At least 4 veiled chameleons all housed together. One was quite large and will at some point try to eat the tiny ones. I have only been able to get supplies I need for my animals by ordering online. I would love to shop local but I can not. read more

Actually it was nicer than the normal Petco it seemed a little bigger and well organized it's on the main strip. They had a nice selection of ferrets and the guy was really helpful and knowledgeable on what you needed to have a ferret as a pet. It was a pleasant buying experience. read more

This store is poorly managed, I've always thought this but have not written a review until today. There is so much merchandise, over flowing the shelves and the isles are so close together cramming everything together making it difficult to get around with those poor carts. The women's bathroom is always filthy, in fact I complained once. Today as I was checking out there were many of us in line with one male checker, I believe Tom was his name. I asked him how come he doesn't call another checker, he told me it didn't matter. As I was checking out, I politely asked him not to make my bags too heavy. He put five cans of large dog food in the bag and I told him that was enough while he proceeded to put in one more and dismiss me saying, it's not too heavy. At that point I took one can out, and told him it is if you have arthritis in your hands. He appeared unhappy with me judged by his demeanor, body language and again not acknowledging what I just shared with him. He handed me the receipt and said nothing, not even a thank you for shopping there. He's a real dandy employee! read more

There is something seriously wrong with the people here. My kiddos used to love to come in and see what's new. We will pick up food and what not. The workers act like they are Golam/Smiegel and all of everything is "their PRECIOUSSSSS" it's so weird. We will go see the cats or the fish and honestly they hover over us the entire time. They've learned zero social skills. I've stopped going unless we need things we can only get here because the workers are SO off-putting. read more

After waiting 2 months to get into a group puppy class, I show up for our first class only to learn that they do not provide group classes. I have 25 years 4-H training experience and this is my 9th pup. So now he is almost 6 months and what he really needs is the socializing. Not the basics. The customer service presented by the store manager was less than ideal. One of their first issues at the Butte, MT store was the unnoticeable paper sign that was taped to one of the side windows. This sign stated party's of 2 or less only. On an even less noticeable sign they had "No children". I found these on my own after the following: These are understandable given current situations and I respect the policy. However, the manager needs to improve the tone and manner in which he enforces this rule as I was third in line to receive a series of verbal instructions to leave his store at shouting volume. Stress isn't an excuse to treat people in an unprofessional way. A combination of unprofessional actions and disregard for customer satisfaction makes it easy to shop elsewhere. read more

I think the employees ay this location all ride the short bus to work. I just needed a few minnows. The girl at the register called for help in aquatics. I stood there for nearly 10 minutes while 4 other employees stood around talking. I asked again for help in aquatics. Again, I waited for several minutes...nothing. I approached the group of employees, and asked, "Is there anyone here that is qualified to net a few fish for me?"....To which the replies were, "I'm off the clock", and "Our aquatics person must be on his lunch break". Apparently management at this location is so poor, that out of 5 employees, not one person could figure out how to net a few minnows. The experience was so ridiculous, I would say I was in shock by the complete incompetence of these ignoramuses, so I just left and fed my turtles earthworms from Bob Wards. read more

I have just moved here from Washington and went to petco, Mine back home was alsways wonderful. Unfortunately my new home town Petco is the least to be desired. I was just trying to exchange items that were unused and still had the tags and I had a reciept. With the move I did not meet there strict return guide line date. I usually like to buy local but unfortunately Chew.com will get all my new business from now on. My new puppy, older dog, and cat will get what they need, and I know they will definitely want to keep a customer. Good Bye Petco, Hello good business practice and customer service. I recommend anyone reconsider buying anything from Petco in Butte. The worst part is I am a retail store manager and have always done everything to keep a customer. read more

I really love this location. The staff is always friendly and remembers my fur babies by name and show a genuine interest in them and whatever services or supplies they may need as well as sincere help in training obstacles. I love how they interact with my kids when they come in as well and how eager they are to help in whatever way they can when answering questions on small animal 4-H projects.
