Great place to go when you want to spoil your pet. I love to go there on my dog's birthday (or gotcha day, or any other "special" occasion) to buy one of their peanut butter pup-cakes. They're quite pricey, but our dogs only get this one go-round with us. Might as well enjoy it! They have a selection of toys, collars, and other treats, as well as a grooming section, and baths in the back. I walked in the other day with my pup to get her nails done there (for the first time). Call ahead, as the groomer isn't there full-time, but once I had figured out she was there, I walked right in and it took about five minutes (they were long and needed a clip, then grind). Other than cost factors, and a limited selection (small shop, limited space), I think it's a great stop to treat your dog without having to go to a bigger, more corporate store. read more

I've been a long-time customer, but this experience ended the relationship. On my last grooming visit, my dog's tail was cut unevenly and inconsistently. When I asked the groomer to fix it, she acknowledged she didn't know how. At checkout, after reviewing the issue, I was given a 50% discount, which I appreciated as an acknowledgment of the poor work. However, the bigger issue came next. I scheduled another grooming appointment three days in advance, received confirmation, and made arrangements to get my dog there. When she arrived, the groomer refused service -- with no advance notice, no call, and no apology. I had to call the store myself to find out what happened. I was told the groomer is a private contractor and could refuse jobs at will, and that nothing could be done except "leaving a note for the manager." Regardless of internal arrangements, customers schedule through the store, receive confirmations from the store, and reasonably expect professionalism from the business they patronize. Denying service only after a customer arrives -- without notice -- is unacceptable. Grooming quality here has been inconsistent, but customer service and accountability have been consistently lacking. After years of loyalty and multiple chances, I won't be returning. read more

Order a "wicked tiny birthday dog cake" and a "birthday dog bone treat" for my dog's birthday. I made an online purchase in the morning, and was able to pick up my order later that day. My dog looooved them and wanted more. Both treats were soo cute. read more

Not worth the price. $80 for a face trim, feet trim, sanitary and teeth. That's crazy. No bath, no nothing else just those things.

I started working here around April and fell in love with the groomer Nina. She's so amazing and does awesome work. I brought my very grouchy cat for a seabed and bath and Nina was super patient and sweet. My cat is older so I didn't want her sedated and I explained that she was a handful; it wasn't an issue. She looked and felt great! She wasn't shedding either. She was happy as a clam when I took her home. I couldn't recommend her more! As far as the shop, I like how involved the manager and owner are. If you want something ordered it's pretty easy to do by sending an inquiry or talking to one of us. I try to keep the place neat and tidy too and I love petting everyone's dogs when they come in. Really brightens my day. I love this shop! read more

Y'know how you have that impossible person on your gift list and you really have no idea what to buy them. BUT lucky for you, they are obsessed with their pet. This is the place to buy them a gift. Yes, it is mostly doggie stuff but I have found items for the cat lovers in my life. Plus you can bathe your own dog here in their self-service bathtub which is up on a platform which really could save your back. read more

I so wish I had a ton of extra spending money for this place! I love coming here with my children and checking out the constantly changing stock of Petcetera. Actually if I wasn't a parent but a animal parent, they would be spoiled rotten 4 legged friends. We usually buy a few edible treats and look at the clothing, but not a lot of plus sized stuff for a fat Australian Shepard. Its ok though, because she rather treats than clothes. We been there as they were giving a dog a bath in the back. They seem to really spoiled her nicely. I haven't come in here yet with my dog, im afraid she will tackle the food and embarrass us. :-) Check this place out by all means or buy a gift cert for your dog people in your life. read more

It was pointless bringing my dog here to get groomed. The first time she went, my mother dropped her off so I figured she didn't communicate my wishes. This time I dropped her off. I told the groomer that my cocker has dry skin ( normal for their breed) and that she needed to use a medicated or soothing shampoo to get the dry skin and hairs off of her. My mother picked my dog up as I was busy and my dog still had all the same dried up areas. As if she just got cut and sprayed with some perfume and that's all. Wasn't even a good cut considering her head hair was not blended at all and the ears weren't even defined. I bathe her myself and combed out the hairs attached to the dried flakes. No fancy shampoo just some an aloe soothing one from petco. Why pay to go here when I literally had to do the job myself. My dog was itching a lot when she got back from this place , so much that her day camp called me with great concern and now after I gave her the bath, she's showing more energy and sleeping peacefully. Don't waste money or time bringing your pets here. Also, the clothing section was truly lacking. read more

I recently took my dog in for a grooming appointment and we both had a great experience. My dog has emotional issues and it is anxiety inducing for both of us when he goes to the groomers. I called ahead to tell them my situation and ask questions. They were very accommodating and answered all of my questions ( multiple phone calls). Everything went well and now my pup looks great! I appreciate their patience and understanding. I will most certainly be a regular grooming customer. read more

Best grooming salon ever! My shih Tzu loves it there! Thank you nina for always taking care of my baby

Don't bother to make an appointment--been here a few times and they didn't even start grooming my cat until 1.5 hours after his appointment. Their groomers have poor technique--his mane and back look like a 10 year old with a lawn mower groomed him. For $85 plus tip for a cat haircut, you should get so much more. Go anywhere else in New Orleans. read more

Used to love bringing our dogs here for grooming. Between Mark being so welcoming and Stacy grooming her so well, it was a win/win. Stacy left the organization but we saw that they got two new groomers. Today we went for an 8:15 appt and no groomer there. They were trying to reach her. We waited 15 minutes and left. If you aren't professional enough to show up to work on time, you aren't professional enough to leave a loved one with. read more

I went in today with my 2 dogs for nail trims and treats. Walked in and nobody was up front. Waited around for over 5 minutes all I hear are the employees SCREAMING at each other in the back! Nobody recognized I was there they kept fighting and I left. Won't go back!! read more

I'm pretty conservative with my money. I don't go out a ton. The stuff in my house isn't top of the line. The last video game system I was in on I believe was the Nintendo 64. But you know what I will never, ever hesitate to spend entirely too much money on? Dog collars and leashes. For my dogs though, not for me. Or my wife. We aren't kinky like that. Not that it's any of your business if we were. Wow, you are VERY nosy. Where was I? You have me all flustered now. Oh yeah, Petcetera has the best selection of leashes and collars! They look good and are high quality, with a lot of great New Orleans themed options. But not cheesy NOLA Collars, subtle and tasteful ones. With Pelicans on them or in Green and Purple Mardi Gras colors. Really cool stuff. This is a little boutique store, but their selection is really huge for a store this size on everything for your dog. Definitely worth checking out if you treat your dog like you would a child. read more

Not worth the price or time. Our experience involved impatience and outward annoyance by staff. Our request to just trim a small area of our pet's back was blatantly ignored. His cut was uneven and with scratches. We won't be returning. read more

So I went here today to find a small carrier for a tiny dog. The man at the counter was texting on his phone. I started to ask if he had anything but he neither looked up nor acknowledged me. Would give this shop 6 stars if I could. I have my kitten on a topical monthly flea preventative and I live in an apartment complex, and my cat is a strictly indoors cat. For whatever reason I recently dealt with a flea infestation in my apartment and my poor baby was covered with them. I usually go to Metairie Small Animal Hospital when he needs a flea bath, but they require sedation before bathing cats, so when I dropped into Petcetera on a whim I was happy to hear that they could bathe him sans sedation. The woman that bathed him did a fantastic job - the infestation was really bad and he absolutely despises water, so the fact that she was so thorough was incredible. It was $65 altogether (baths include nail clipping too!) and it was worth every penny. Mark was amazing at helping me get to the bottom of why I had a flea infestation after being so diligent about the flea preventative, and advised me to get my kitten on an oral flea preventative prescription, which are much more effective and much cheaper than the topical treatments I've been using. Scott referred me to Magazine St. Animal Clinic for the prescription, sold me to the products necessary to flea bomb my apartment (came out to be something like $20 total), also suggested I get an 8-month Seresto collar while I wait for the prescription (had to refer me to a different store since they didn't carry it). I'm going out of town today (all of this happened a few days ago) and Scott also kindly offered to pet sit for me since it looked like my original pet sitter wouldn't have been able to, which was extremely nice of him. All in all, I'll definitely be back in the future for anything my kitten needs. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable, and their services are worth every penny. read more

We took our two fur babies to Petcetera for bathing and Stacy was the groomer. If you know anything about Yorkies, they are particular little creatures, and these two seem to sense that they're going to suffer at the vet or groomer. They quiver and shake themselves right to sleep. However, these two walked boldly into Petcetera (maybe because it's on Magazine Street?) for their extensive bathing, including nail trim, teeth brushing, eyes cleaned and a few other things for $25 each. What a great place--they even offer self service for brave pet parents--an elevated tub to wash your fur babies for only $12. Petcetera's wide selection of grooming and pet care products, clothing, costumes, accessories, and food items is amazing. Unique, one of a kind and quality products. read more

Not sure if I should take offense. You be the judge. I walked in. I see a young girl doing some sort of inventory, look up, see me (we make eye contact) and go back to doing her work. Not a word. I walk through the store looking at all the cute (and yes, overpriced) pet items that I would have gladly spent money on since my dogs are like my children. I pass by another employee behind the cash register who also doesn't give me the time of day and is also doing some sort of inventory. All of a sudden I hear someone walk into the store and I hear "Hello! How are you doing? Do you need any help today?" Wow. There are no words. Rude and apparently they only acknowledge those who "look like they have money. " Don't waste your time here folks. I will gladly spend my money on my pets elsewhere. read more

One unpleasant experience can ruin a place. We've taken my dog here for a bath several times, and usually I was very happy with the experience. This last time there was a tall awkward man, a manager or owner, who was rude and gave us the impression that they'd really rather we weren't there. We were handed a watered down bottle of shampoo when we asked to use their shampoo, and he seemed very annoyed that we wanted to use their towels. He was also clearly annoyed when we asked the cashier to allow us to pay, when he had her working on something else. I assure you, sir, we won't be bothering you again. read more

My dog is OBSESSED with the home made peanut butter cookies from this store. She is a 7lb chiweenie and friggin INHALES them like she is a pitbull or something. We got her a Puppia harness here when we first got her, and it's still going strong. The people that work here are incredibly sweet, very helpful when I have a billion questions, and truly understand how to interact with dogs. My dog is pretty cute and petite, and so we get a lot of people on the street trying to pet her and otherwise harass her, which she is not into. But the workers here are very respectful of her and I's personal space and understand doggie body language, making it a really pleasant shopping experience. Yes, it is a small boutique, so the prices on many things are WAY inflated. Even though it's a once in a while splurge, I feel good supporting a local, animal loving business and my dog certainly enjoys it, too! read more

Petcetera used to be fantastic, but my last experience under the new management/groomer was absolutely terrible. When I first brought my dog in the groomer was no where to be found. I went across the street and had 2 drinks and an entire meal before the groomer was even back. It used to take them 2 hours tops to groom my dog but last time it took about 5 hours... my dog is a 10lb Shih Tzu. I spent time with the groomer going over what I want. She told me what blade she would be using and promised me my dog wouldn't have a short cut, but when I got him back he was entirely shaved down. They didn't fully cut his head/face/tail and did not clip his nails at all. My dog was freezing and looked like a little rat for close to a month because of them. I would give it 0 stars if possible read more

I have a very large dog about 75lbs. We rescued her in November and I discovered this place not long after. I have taken her there almost weekly to use the tub where you can bathe your own dog($10) and use the dryer. They provide the soap and one towel. The store is super cute as well and all the treats I've ever gotten seem to be fresh and my dog loves them! Everyone has always been super nice and accommodating. I have never had an experience with anyone being rude or treating anyone rude while I'm there and I go almost weekly now since November. I surprised to read the negative comments. Horrible- I bought 4 "dog" cupcakes- the cupcakes were hard, stale, and one of my dogs choked on one of them. I have 4 dogs and wanted something special for the birthday, so I decided to go to this store instead of giving them regular "human" cupcakes. Not to mentioned I paid 15 dollars for 4 small cupcakes- how stupid am I? At home, not one of my dogs were able to chew on it and by the time I got around to Walter(my Frenchy), he was choking on it. My dog almost died and I am never -ever returning to this store- that's my family!!! read more

First time at this store for a groom for my Maltese. Apparently a 'puppy cut' means to shave your dog, oh wait, it's December, why would someone do that?! They had me email a picture of how I would like my furbaby cut, then totally disregarded my request and shaved him (less than 1/2 inch in length). Who trims a Maltese this way?? DO NOT GO HERE FOR GROOMING... inexperienced and left my baby bleeding from a rear paw with zero explanation as to what happened in the 3.5 hours he was there. Then, of course, upon checking out, they ask for gratuity before I even see how he's groomed... I should have known better than to fall for this trick. Update: changing from one star to three because of how my issues were addressed. I received a phone call from the owner (who also later delivered a goodie bag for my furbaby) apologizing for the experience I had and wanting to make things right. I truly feel like they will take the feedback I provided and learn from it. Overall, 5 stars for customer service/support and 1 star for the actual groom. read more

Hasnt been the same since Stacey left. I brought my standard poodle to be groomed yesterday at 11:50 am. I had very specific instructions that I wanted his hair cut to 1/2 inch all over, nothing fancy. They said it would take about 4 hours. I had not heard from anyone regarding the status of my dog throughout the afternoon so I went to the store at 5:39 pm, exactly 21 minutes before their advertised closing time to find a sign on the door that stated "Be back in 20 minutes- grooming customers call 269-8711(their main number). I called it twice, and it went straight to voicemail. I became very scared that my dog was left unattended and that they would close for the night with him in their building. I incessantly began beating on the glass in the door and windows until the woman who was supposedly grooming my dog came out. I paid, they requested a gratuity before I ever saw what my dog looked like. I was charged $70 bucks which I paid in cash with a 15 dollar tip. When my dog came running out of the back area, his hair was shaved to the skin, with bald patches all over him. When I complained, the groomer said that she was working 20 minutes at the front retail cash register, and 20 minutes in the back grooming and that she didn't have time to do anything other than shave all of his hair off. This is completely unacceptable on so many levels. I will post photographs of how horrible my dog looks. This woman,(Renee J) and this business has no business touching anyone's beloved pet. I am horrified and in tears every time I even glance at my dog. I had used this place twice in the past, but over a year ago. I should have visited Yelp before visiting Petcetera. plan to complain to the Better Business Bureau after reading so many similar experiences. My dog will be the last dog that is treated this way. read more

There are not many places in New Orleans that will groom cats. Petcetera does and the groomer is great. Felipe is calm and even happy when I pick him up. Cats don't love being groomed, but Himalayans need it and they definitely like being groomed or they like the after grooming state. So, when I get there and find Felipe just chilling out and purring, and when the girls behind the desk remember him even on our second visit, I know I'm leaving the little guy in good hands. read more

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR FURRY FAMILY WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!! QUALITY & SERVICE HAS GONE DOWN INTO THE PITS! I scheduled a 10:00am appointment for my 2 babies for the "Sensational Bath"(1 Shih Tzu, 1 Chihuahua Mix both under 13lbs). Let me get straight to it and say there was NOTHING sensational about the experience I had today. I dropped them off at 10am, was told they would be there 2 hours by the receptionist Aliza who I learned was oblivious to everything pertaining to animals. After still not receiving a pick-up call after 1:00pm I called to check the status and make sure my babies were ok. Aliza stated which became her answer for everything "I don't know", she came back to the phone and stated it would be an additional 2 hours. I waited until 5pm, still no call so I started to make my way to pick them up. I received a call from the groomer Kim while in route. She then decided to communicate to me that she got 1 done but the other freaked out really bad and wouldn't allow her to groom him after bathing. Upon arriving the receptionist Aliza made a scene repeating over and over again "it was sooo bad, so bad, so bad" in front of 2 customers that were checking out ahead of me. I had to tell her to finish with her customers and we could discuss what happened privately. Aliza kept saying "it was just sooo bad" and ignored my request of privacy. I asked to speak with Kim and the manager because I would've appreciated a phone call saying my dog was upset and scared. She said "they're both back there". She then led me to the back to retrieve my babies but decided to have a VERY UNPROFESSIONAL conversation about me, stating she "had an issue" with me being upset for not receiving a call with the manager and Kim. I heard all 3 of them express unprofessional smart comments about my dogs before all 3 of them came out to speak with me. So to make a long horror story short none of them took responsibility or felt that I needed a call. Kim went into detail and explained that my dog allowed her to bathe him but when she tried to groom him he backed himself up against the wall and "freaked out". She informed me that she tried several times but he just would not allow her. I then stated AGAIN that they should have called me instead of pushing him past his limits all day. The manager merely said "don't worry about paying". I did not accept, I paid for the 1 dog Kim did groom. After leaving both my dogs had to relieve themselves immediately which told me that they were locked in the kennel all day. 1 of my dogs has been hacking since we arrived home. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE AND YOU SHOULD NOT EITHER! The service is horrible and these new employees do not live up to the Standard Stacey & Mark set for this place. Why would you think it's ok to push an animal's limits all day, not walk them, and put them in a kennel for over 5 hours and not contact the owner about any of it. NOT OK! IM TRULY, LIVID, HURT AND DISAPPOINTED that my babies had this horrid experience today. read more
