Proofing Behaviors Canine Obedience

Proofing Behaviors Canine Obedience

This is my review for Proofing Behaviors Canine Obedience. My name is Maria and I'm happy to…read morereport that my 170lb St. Bernard, Ziggy and I are recent graduates of the program. I happened upon Proofing Behavior's via the Clipper Magazine back in March. At the time Ziggy had gotten away from me again and chased a small child through the neighborhood. The good news is the child was not hurt (just frightened) bad news is this wasn't the first time and I was beyond exhausted trying to control my baby boy. Ziggy is only two years old, after getting him in the house after that incident, I got the mail and found the magazine and there on the back was the coupon. I thought this was providence and called them right away Jim returned my call and within 2 days he was at my front door ready to start training. Unfortunately covid-19 hit and we had to postpone training until late June early July I am happy to say 8 weeks later both Ziggy and I have graduated on the loose leash training and the overall commands to sit and stay. I cannot say enough about how great this is and what peace of mind I now have when I go outside with Ziggy. He listens, he pays attention, he looks for my cues and all of this would not have been possible without Jim and the techniques he brings. From day one Jim explained the simple techniques and yes with the help of some treats we got Ziggy in line and in focus. Ziggy being a smart little boy has realized the more he listens to Mommy the more he gets outside time I highly recommend Proofing Behaviors and Jim's services to anyone and everyone all dogs all sizes I mean I knew it was a challenge as big as Ziggy IS I was a little skeptical we were not going to get here but to my great surprise we are.

Jim helped us resolve the "getting acquainted" issues between the ladies and helped all of us establish good relationships as a pack. The peace, tranquility and order have been so appreciated, as was Jim's kind disposition, professionalism, and natural aptitude with our canines. Would strongly, strongly recommend Proofing Behaviors for an effective, authentic, stress-free dog training experience.

We have taken many classes with several different instructors and have nothing but good things to…read moresay. We have done everything from basic obedience classes up to more specialized dog sport and focus classes. Overall I have been very pleased.

Our dog is an AKC certified cane corso. We took a full…read moreclass, following the trainers instructions and we could see our dogs behavior deteriorating from class to class. We took the 6 class behavior training 1 for puppies ( our dog was 5 months old when we started) and when we finished we got an email asking us to repeat the class. Two classes after we got another email asking us not to come back. They also suggested that there was something wrong psychologically with our dog and asked us to look into medicating him. At that time we were devastated with the news and we were really concerned with the situation we were in. We thought our dog was a lost cause and felt hopeless. That was a few months ago, we since started training with a new trainer and our dog is amazing. We made more progress in two classes with a trainer that had experience with the breed than in all the months we had at the DTCCC. We had to work really hard to get him to "un learn" the bad habits he had picked up at the Dog Training Center of Chester county. We never had to medicate him, and there's nothing wrong with our dog. Before signing up with them I had e-mailed them asking if they had any experience with the breed and they said that they had. I sincerely doubt that after seeing the way they dealt with my dog. There are some other reviews that say that they're not good trainers for working breeds and I agree with that. If you have sociable breeds that are easy to train I'm sure that the DTCCC will do a fine job, but if you have a working breed that needs a strong hand and firm leadership you'll do better looking for it somewhere else. With all of that said I want to make a note that our trainer, Scott, was amazing. He was extremely helpful and never made us feel un-welcomed. We could tell that he was making an honest effort to train our dog within the limitations of the class. After we got kicked out he continued to reach out to us and offered help. We never got a refund for the classes that we didn't take after they kicked us out.

I could not work with this trainer although I can see the "clicker" training method has merit, but…read morePeggy's delivery does not. Strike1:- The first visit lasted 1 hour 45 mins, could have been halved if Peggy didn't talk so much (she charges according to time). She allowed my 7 month old puppy to jump up and scratch my kitchen table. I am not going to allow my puppy to behave badly like that, she will be told no when she does wrong, but Peggy's method only addresses good behavior and ignores my house rules. Strike 2:- Peggy gave me a folder with hours of reading material followed up after the visit with copious notes by email and links to videos and more articles. I would rather spend that time enjoying my puppy and found the materials had unnecessary and over the top info. Strike 3:- That night and next day my puppy had diarrhea from the treats Peggy threw out. Early in the visit I told Peggy the dog has a sensitive stomach and is on prescription dog food, but she is a talker not a listener, and later she denied I had told her. Strike 4:- Oops, she's out, there's no second visit.
