We adopted a kitten last week from Pet pantry. The staff is warm and welcoming. Steve was prompt in calling me after my application was approved. He is a kind hearted man who really loves his job and it shows. The facility is well run and clean. You can tell the cats are well loved by the staff. I've adopted several pets from Pet Pantry of Lancaster County. They were so helpful and it was such a great experience that I signed up as a volunteer. They not only have a pet adoption center, they also provide low cost spay/neuter and other surgeries, provide regular food distributions for those struggling to keep their pets in their homes. read more

Wonderful place to find your new animal companion(s), this is my second time adopting from Pet Pantry and Steve Pizzo helped me with both cats. He is very sincere and serious about matching each person and animal for the best outcome. This is a no-kill shelter, they find homes for everyone. The in-house vet does a thorough check, microchip, shots and necessary treatments are administered; whatever is needed going forward is in the take home file. All the cats are groomed and very well taken care of; the ladies on staff were so kind, helpful, and sent us home with everything we needed to be comfortable. I have an amazing story to share about the Pet Pantry in Lancaster. I was recently contacted by a devoted pet owner that had a very sick dog named Nina. They spent $1000 at Pet Emergency and were quoted another $5000 for emergency surgery. The dog owner is currently out of work and could not begin to afford this enormous burden. But she and her children are devoted to Nina and love her dearly. I contacted the Pet Pantry on Rohrerstown Road in Lancaster and they immediately went into action. They worked with Nina's owner and treated Nina. This morning Nina is feeling great and beginning her journey to getting better with her devoted family caring for her. First of all, Pet Pantry is not just a shelter. Their work helping people afford to keep their pets is extremely important, and they give out food, supplies and low-cost veterinary services to those who need them. In Philadelphia, helping reduce surrenders in this manner has been part of a formula that increased that city's shelter survival rate from 11% to 80% in just six years. (Yes, Philly also has an aggressive spay/neuter program.) After losing my cat to cancer, I decided to take a look around and ended up adopting an 8-year-old male cat who had come to Pet Pantry from an overcrowded house. PP had farmed him out to the Forever Home in E. Petersburg, which is where I went to see him. PP made good on its 30-day health warranty by removing a knot/cyst of some sort from the top of his head, at no cost. He is much more comfortable without that. With PP you get a cat that's spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccines, and has been through a health and behavior screening. I have no problem with an 8-year-old cat, either. Kittens are gone in a week, and young adults that rub your legs and purr are gone pretty quickly as well. But older cats need homes too. Sometimes you have to do the most good possible for the pet as well as for yourself. As long as PP does the important work of helping pet owners keep their pets, and ensures spaying/neutering, vaccines and health/behavior screening, I certainly can recommend them for anybody seeking a rescue pet. read more

I have adopted two cats from Pet Pantry and my brother has also adopted. All three experiences were 10/10! I appreciated that I didn't have to have an appointment to simply meet the cats and everyone was so kind and helpful. The facility is clean and the cages are well kept and spacious. The employees knew the cats and could give me pointers about each cat's personality and back story which helped me find the perfect fit each time. The adoption coordinator, Steve, is incredibly responsive and thorough. You can tell he deeply cares about each cat and finding the best family. read more

While I appreciate the work that the Pet Pantry does, I was very disappointed and disheartened to be turned down for cat adoption because our 14-year-old female Pomeranian was not spayed. We lost our cat before Christmas and, having always had cats, were looking forward to rescuing a cat to join our family. We visited the Pet Pantry in Lancaster on Millersville Pike and met two adorable sister kittens we fell in love with. We decided we wanted to adopt both of the kittens, as they were sisters and we didn't want to split them up. Then lo and behold, we received a phone call saying that our application was not accepted because of our dog not being spayed. This was an opportunity for two kittens to have a safe and loving home and now they remain waiting for adoption due to a rule I don't even understand. Perhaps someone at the Pet Pantry could explain their rationale for this rule because I really don't understand how a 14-year-old female dog not being spayed would affect two female kittens who are spayed. Luckily, there are many other rescue opportunities available in the area, but I am very disappointed that we were denied this opportunity at the Pet Pantry. read more

Worst experience ever! Our child fell in love with a 7 month old cat crated at the pet store in Willow Street. We filled out the application and were denied solely on the fact that we have a 5 year old AKC Lhasa Apso (20 lbs. Dog) that was not spayed. Our previous cat passed in the fall due to old age. They leave these poor animals crated for 23 hours a day and have the moral compass to turn away people wanting to help. Do yourself a favor and avoid this "Non Profit" read more

Best experience ever. Within an hour of filling out my application for a kitten they approved me! Within an hour of the approval phone call I was out at their location and was able to bring home my new baby. He is the sweetest boy! I will never recommend this place to my family or friends. This place has been nothing but a headache. No one knows what they are doing and will give you the wrong info EVERY-TIME!! I made a neuter appointment for my dog back in April made a $25 deposit to make the appointment. I came back in June to pay the rest $190 a total of $215 which was the price I was originally told but I was charged $215 on top of the $25 making it $240. I later called and told them I over paid. They had no record of the deposit. I found my proof of deposit but before I could call them back they called me and fixed it and said I would get my $25 back. Wait it gets better. A week before my dog's original appointment (July 7th) I was told that they didn't have any appointment set for my dog that day. They changed my date to June 30th which messed up my work schedule. I bring my dog in on the 30th & then I was told I had to pick my dog up at 4pm when I was told 5:30pm pick up. At this point I asked for my money back and to cancel the appointment. Then all of sudden they asked me if i wanted to come on July 7th which was my original date. (I said no because I already had switch my work schedule and I couldn't get off) They didn't like that, the lady at the desk started calling people to see if someone can be there for 5:30pm. They found someone so I left my dog for his appointment. Every time they call I get different prices. First it was $215 then $240 and today (July 1st) they tell me it's $230 and that I will only get $10 refund. I will never do business with this place ever again and I will tell my friends and family NOT to come here. read more

Let me start out by saying the Pet Pantry does a great service to Lancaster and I salute the job that they do. That being said, I was not thrilled with their attitude when I dropped off a donation on 6/16/21 at approx. 2PM. I had a large bag of cat food and other things and I was trying to get in the front door, trying being the operative word. A volunteer was sitting right inside the door, saw me struggling to get in yet stayed seated and would not open the door. I walk toward the desk and say "I have cat food and some incidentals" and a woman with a smokers voice says give me the food and put everything else on the counter. She took the cat food, I dropped off the other stuff and left. No hello, thank you, no eye contact, NOTHING!!! I don't expect her to fawn all over me but a hello or thank you would have been nice. I hope the rest of the staff is a little nicer. May make me think twice before I go out of my way to drop off a donation. read more

I got my kitten from Pet Pantry and while they were very hard to get a hold of, they kept trying to call me back about my inquiry into the kitten I wanted badly. They were able to get me in to adopt him and take him home the same day I spoke with them. They have been so helpful, supplied a starter kit, and checking up on my baby! we have been using pet pantry for over a year for low cost spay and neutering for feral cats. everyone there has been helpful and they offer a wonderful service at a low cost. most of the vets in the area will not touch a feral cat. they give food to people who are having trouble feeding their pets. I read other review. and the problem is with Lancaster county itself, not pet pantry. if Lancaster county had an actual tnr program, people would be able to put up shelter and feed the feral cats without worrying about being fined by the police. we should all be banding together for the common cause. read more
