By the time we were financially able to think about getting him fixed again we had a new baby in the house and had completely forgotten about it. A few weeks ago, our cat started acting very weird toward me. He would stalk me and try to attack me. When our daughter started crawling he got very territorial and even scratched her once. We decided to take him to a shelter but were unable to get him into the crate. I called ORCA looking for help capturing the cat to take him to a shelter, but when I spoke with John and later Connie, they decided that my cat had rabies and would not consider anything else. They told me that I was being an irresponsible parent, that if my baby died it would be my fault, that no shelter would take an animal that had scratched people and if he scratched a new owner that we would be held liable. They basically bullied and shamed me into getting my cat euthanized and tested for rabies, which in the end, he tested negative for. After doing a lot of research online, I have not found anything to explain why they believed rabies was the problem. There is so much more evidence that he was acting strangely toward me because he wasn't neutered. But because of the rude and abrasive way that I was spoken to by John and Connie, I was pushed into a decision that ultimately ended the life of a cat that probably would have made a good pet once he was fixed. I understand that rabies is a serious disease and that it is crucial to act quickly if you suspect it. But my cat had never been around other animals, never been outside, and had a fairly obvious reason for why his behavior may be abruptly changing. If you are looking for help and you want the best outcome for your animal, I would not recommend ORCA.
