I saw a dog on the website that I wanted, I called a few times to check on him and ask questions until I finally decided he would be the best addition to my life. You can tell workers here are compassionate for animals. I was eager to pick up Tony Hawk & was running late coming from far away and 2 KIND workers waited until I got there to bring him to his forever home. Both very nice and informative. I wish I got names of the 2 workers. Thank you for waiting for me to get there & keeping him comfortable. He is already doing so great at home & I can tell he will be adjusting perfectly in days to come. I will recommend everyone to go there for good, easy, fast, and informative services. read more

I took two cats to get spayed one was not fully spayed correctly, She is still going in heat. Now I have to pay $750 to get her spayed again. I called them to let them know they gave me the run around. My last phone call didn't go well they told me basically it's my problem. Wasted money now I have to pay triple the price. Adopted a lovely dog and when we took him to our vet a few days later, he had giardia...worms. Primarily found in kennels, fecal matter in drinking water. So in addition to over $300 in adoption fees, now vet bills and medicine to get the worms out of his system. They should do a simple fecal analysis on all CATS AND DOGS to see if they are infected. We would be willing to pay more if the test was done and we adopted a healthy pet. We jump through hoops to adopt a pet, and we understand that, but you should be doing simple tests to ensure that we adopt healthy pets. If you recently adopted a pet, have them checked out. If you are planning on adoption, ask if the animal has been tested for worms. Bringing home a pet to new surroundings making it tougher if they are sick is not appreciated, shame on you. read more

I brought my cat in for a spay surgery. She continued to go into heat and I reached out asking them to look at her again since that is not normal. They refused. I brought her to the vet and they told me she would need surgery again. Well, they went in and found she was going into heat because the SPCA left one of her ovaries! It's like they didn't even attempt to take it out. It was fully intact, the ovary and the uteran horn. I emailed the SPCA to ask for compensation since I had to put a lot of money out to correct their mistake and they are now ignoring me. They won't even give me her medical records! They told me I have to wait for legal to reach out to me! Go to another low cost spay and neuter place, this one can't even do their job. read more

Was interested in a cat and met them for the first time and then took some time to think on it and let the cat acclimate to the shelter since it just arrived from a rehoming. called to check another day on the status of the cat because i was very interested and was told she was about the same and i could still come in. i drive 40 minutes like i told them and then once i get there they tell me they have a policy that everyone in the family must meet with the cat. i live with 5 adults, two who are in advanced degrees in medicine. it is not feasible and i wish i would've known before i got attached to the cat. it's unfortunate but i will not be able to proceed further with the adoption process due to the lack of communication on the shelters part. i was also given attitude multiple times in person and on the phone which was also not appreciated. sadly, i wouldn't recommend this shelter as a good option to adopt an animal. read more

The Lancaster SPCA website advertises a $65 charge if a customer wants only to have a cat neutered. From their website: "Surgery only can be purchased for $65." My wife called ahead to be sure she didn't have to have the cat vaccinated (she had already vaccinated the cat). She then took our cat in on May 28, 2019, and was adamant that she did not want other services; she only wanted to have the cat neutered. However, Lancaster SPCA not only neutered the cat, they also microchiped the cat, vaccinated the cat, trimmed the claws, all against my wife's wishes and explicit instructions. They charged our credit card $115, which my wife did not know until after leaving the facility. Multiple calls to the facility yielded no solution. The woman I spoke with was utterly rude, saying my wife knew what she was getting. read more

Here is the update on a dog, that was taken to spca at 630 tuesday night, the next day i went to spca they open at 12, i asked about the dog, they said they had to wait for 48 hrs and then they had to have a give it a behavioral exam, health exam and then after it is released they will put it on web site, (no you cant have first dibbs on dog) (i also live 40 min away) i had to fill out paper work, as soon as i see it on site i have to make appt to come see it. so i waited and check and waited and checked. I went on web site at 6am, no dog, 10, 11 no dog. i called 3 times phone rang 22 times, no answer, i called again left a message no call back, called again at 4, no call back, this morning at 10am they called me and said dog was gone, already gone, i said i never got a call back nor did i see it on your site , NOPE IT WAS ON THERE THEY SAID. I am telling you, i will never ever ever give money to these people they are shady, cocky and rude, when i asked about coming in to see the dog when i was in the place she said "goodluck other people called about the dog" i said did they come down and fill out papers yet she said no. these people are rotten. read more

According to this shelter's own published numbers for 2015, they euthanized approx. 3/4 of the kitties that they "saved". This shelter states they will turn away no animal, but what they don't mention is that only 25% of the kitties live long enough to have a chance at being adopted. Don't even get me started on the dog statistics. From their very own actions one can only glean that this "non-profit" (with a Director who takes in $82,000 a year) is in it for the money. Not the pets lost and looking for their home. Not the animals unfortunate enough to be born in a puppy mill. Not the kitty that just wants to snuggle with someone. Money. Check out the way they glorify euthanasia in their own newsletters on their own website, then note the prices they charge for those services, and tell me they aren't pushing death for profit. They basically told me that my dog was housebroken, and they had no history on him past the two weeks he'd been there. I took him home and he's not housebroken. What a mess. Just be honest, that's all I ask. I might have still adopted him, but I wasn't prepared for an adult dog that wasn't housebroken! read more

Wonderful, friendly, open and clean atmosphere. Many rescues/shelters I've visited both as a volunteer and looking for pets will regard potential adopters with suspicion and require more extensive background checks than the FBI. Will be adopting from here again in the future and recommend to friends! read more

Do not take an animal here. We went to take my 6 month old pit lab mix because my yellow lab and her do not get along well. We went in and said we wanted to surrender her and the guy working asked about her and we said she is a little food aggressive sometimes but not real bad. He says "well because she's aggressive we will have t put her down." I said nope and walked out of that disgusting place. Never going there again. read more

This is the best place to go to adopt. They actually want to find homes for dogs, unlike many other shelters that are terrible about placing pets, refusing families with young children or families who don't have a vet reference. We adopted our precious little beagle mix within an hour, and he is the best thing that ever happened to our family. He is spoiled rotten, and we LOVE giving him the love and affection he never had before. He is happy, healthy, and well-taken care of- and we appreciate how easy it was to adopt, and how many pets actually get adopted with such a smooth process, instead of languishing until the place is overcrowded and they have to be put down while willing, loving families are turned away because of red tape. We will never go ANYWHERE else! read more

Think twice about surrendering an animal to this "shelter". I now feel really bad that I encouraged my daughter to take a stray cat there. It was a really sweet cat and was very affectionate with her but she already has two indoor-only cats and no one responded to her attempts to find a home for it. She reluctantly took the cat to the Lancaster ASPCA paying the $45 fee with a request to please call her if they deemed it "unadoptable". She returned to see it the next day and restated the request. Then she called today (2 days after leaving it) and found they had "put it down" because it hissed at a worker so they deemed it "feral". The cat was scared not "feral". I know there are a lot of cats needing homes but this really was a sweet cat that would have made someone a good pet. There was really little justification for putting it down before it even had acclimated to the chaotic "shelter scene" and there was no justification for not calling my daughter and giving her a chance to rescue it from the "rescuers". read more

This place is inhumane. I took my kitten Katie there when I couldn't keep her. I was told they'd keep her two weeks unless she was adopted. I called to see how she was and was told they'd keep her two days. I spoke to the director who said I could have her back for a fee. I went out there but when I arrived the director wasn't there. The receptionist said she went home. The receptionist also said I couldn't have Katie back. I was devastated. I sat down but the woman called the police on me. Katie was a beautiful maine coon and very healthy. They put her down. A family got a dog from them who turned out to be pregnant. Not long after she was adopted she had the babies. Somehow the LSPCA found out and went to their house bullying them into giving all of the dogs to them. The mama and babies. This was a dog fully paid for and adopted by the family. After my Katie died a man told me the LSPCA sold them a supposed "friendly" dog who bit a family member. When they took him back the LSPCA not only wouldn't refund the money but said they'd have to pay for another one. read more
