I have such mixed feelings about this place. I have a small exotic pet that became ill suddenly one…read moremorning and East York Veterinary Center was the only emergency pet center that had the expertise and the availability to see my pet. I made the 30 minute drive from home and my pet was taken back for examination immediately. They diagnosed his illness and treated him with a highly recommended cocktail of medications. Everything seemed perfect. The staff was really friendly and the vet was wonderful. I left feeling extremely positive about the facility with plans to return. Here's where things get dicey. I took the prescription to the pharmacy, as they instructed, and learned it could not be filled because of the type of medication and the amount. No pharmacy or vet in my town could help. I called East York Veterinary Center for advice and also laid out my predicament: my pet has a life-threatening illness and needs this medication immediately. On top of that, the clinic is located 30 minutes from my home and over an hour from my place of work (coincidentally, both are in the opposite direction of one another from my home). I needed direction so I could decide if I was even able to head into the office that day. After not hearing from them for 3 hours I called back and was told they were working on it and would be in touch with me shortly. After not hearing from them 5 hours later, I called and was told they were prescribing a new medication and had called it into a pharmacy in my hometown; it would be available for pick up the next day. Great news, right?! But why hadn't anyone reached out to me? This is the problem. The pharmaceutical and veterinary staff seems on point but the front desk staff doesn't communicate with the patients. A week later I ran out of the one medication and still needed two weeks worth of treatment. I called on Monday and the staff member who answered the phone transferred me to the pharmacy's voicemail. I left a message and never heard back. Meanwhile, my pet who had begun to improve was now in declining health again. He was clearly suffering and in pain. The next day I called and asked why I hadn't heard back and asked for an update. The staff member who answered the phone said she would look into it and have someone return my call. No one ever called back. I ended up calling the next morning after my pet spent the night in pain. I informed the clinic I was coming that morning and demanded the prescription be waiting when I arrived. That's exactly what happened. Thirty minutes later I was at the facility and picking up the medication. The nurse on staff gave me a heads up that it usually takes 2 days to process a request for the medication my pet needs because it is unusual. That makes sense. But why hadn't anyone called to let me know?! At the end of the day, you and your pet will be treated well once you are in the office and working with the veterinary staff. They have the expertise to work with exotic pets and to determine the right course of treatment. The staff will even go out of their way to help you gain access to specialty doses for your pet. However, the problem seems to be getting the front desk staff to actually facilitate communications between patients and staff. In my case, this very well could have killed my pet.

The only complaint I have is the last time I was there, there was a $10 charge for 1 Q-tip that was used to look inside my dogs ears. I was pretty upset now I am afraid to go back and get charged more wasted fees.

Hello Dan, Dr Daniel A Pike DVM…read more I'm contacting you because of the rude experience I had this morning with your receptionist around 8:55a. First words out of her mouth were, "WHAT are you here for?" You and I both know that a receptionists first phrase should have "hello" and "help you" in it. Not to mention the gentleman behind rolling his eyes with me at her. Then his eyes got as big as plates because of what she did. Your receptionist and another lady came to make excuses and blame comcast for them not answering calls while I was sitting in your parking lot. The two of them came back out again to tell me that Rick was not coming out. My reply was, "who is Rick, I didn't have a appointment with Rick, I have an appointment with the owner." Your receptionist replied," Ohh, dr Dan is not here today." Great, your receptionist who made the appointment(5/7/25@11:37a) with you is now telling me you are not here. My reply after all of that was, "well, you better find someone who is." I next watched your manager, front manager who came out to tell me that she can make an appointment with you and that she, "isn't a doctor." I said, "that's obvious, you're not wearing the right clothes." She then defended bad actions and doesn't want me harassing her receptionist. My reply, "You go ahead and make that appointment and I'll contact him(you) about this." The front manager then said she knows the truth about comcast and I'm the one lying. I laughed at her, "so you know that Daniel wanted a place to park in the shade so he bought the building next door." The building next door that comcast, back when comcast was a phone company that covered Dover, signed a deal with the ower of that building so comcast can't be kicked out of Dover. To all the doubters out there. I can say it because I was there. I watched Daniel park in the shade by the building and asked if he wasn't worried about getting towed. He replied, no, I'm not! For you to not be worried then you'd have to own it..... He got a smile from ear to ear. That is when their(Dover Area Animal Hospital) phone problems started, and have continued for over two decades! They knew it would be a problem and did it anyway. Their excuses are exactly that, excuses. I see you and only you, outside, because of those two and there constant problem causing. Maybe David, in a pinch. When I'm at Sunday's I hear good things about David and you. Your receptionists and their manager, people have a lot to say about them. I don't care if it's a woman or a man or something in between, as long as they do their job correctly. I miss your mother being there. This would never have happened. Our first experience with the company was in the early 80's, for our goats. David and you have a great reputation around here. Unfortunately your receptionists and there manager have the opposite reputation. This was written at 10:23a this morning, being sent now. This will be copied and mailed also. Fyi: To the people who think they see smiles. They are not smiles, they are shit-grins, laughing at you. Respectfully waiting for your reply,
