We first met Dr. Nation at a previous clinic, but there was never a question that, when she opened her own clinic, we would be following her! We have 2 goldens and unfortunately our older one became ill. It was a puzzling illness, with off and on symptoms. After several visits and tests, it was apparent that the only option was euthanasia. Dr. Nation displayed such overwhelming compassion and concern during this difficult period that words cannot express our appreciation and respect. When our younger golden started limping, we again sought out her expertise. Unfortunately, a ruptured CCL was the diagnosis and this, too, was very devastating for us. Once again, no rushing us out the door, conducting unnecessary tests, etc. She explained exactly what had happened, the necessary treatment (surgery) and recovery process. Although the surgery has not been scheduled yet, I know with full confidence that our pup will be returning to Dr. Nation. She has unmeasurable compassion and love for animals and this is the common thread that runs through all of the staff at her clinic. They could not be more helpful and caring. Dr. Nation has a true gift with animals, sitting on the floor at their level, talking with them, giving treats, and never failing to answer questions for the owners - no matter how long it takes! Our dogs love going there - they remember her, no matter how long it's been and, as owners, we would recommend her without question, to any other animal lovers. Her staff is so knowledgeable and friendly - ready to answer any questions, give instructions, or just plain pass on love and affection during the pet's visit. We had an emergency situation with our cat where we felt like she needed immediate attention. It was Thursday night at 6:30 and we called Pet Nation desperately seeking help. They were so incredibly friendly and had us come in right away. Our cat isn't exactly the best traveler and she was very agitated when we arrived. They immediately took us in. The first thing I noticed is how cozy the office was and how comfortable I felt in a stressful situation. The staff was very friendly and made us feel like we made the right choice. I took our cat into the room and the vet tech was very kind and nice as she asked questions. She didn't judge our irritated kitty and just kept doing her job. When we finally met Dr. Nation, she instantly put us at ease. She's kind, friendly, and most importantly, extremely knowledgeable. She was able to assess our cat and also educate me on other aspects of feline health that I didn't know about. We ended up staying an hour and a half after close because our cat was not cooperating well and the staff didn't complain once. Although I felt terribly, they kept reminding me that "This is our job, we're happy to do it". At the end of the day, we couldn't have slept that night without knowing our kitty was OK. The staff at Pet Nation were exemplary and went absolutely above and beyond to put our minds at ease. I can confidently say that we are clients for life now and cannot thank Dr. Nation enough for her kind words to us and for her undivided attention to our cat. My first visit last spring left me amazed as she did a complete assessment, both physical exam and bloodwork. While waiting in the room with my two dogs, in walks this bubbly, happy woman with a wonderful smile. She introduced herself as Marie Nation (not Dr. Nation as expected), which put me at ease right away. My lab is an easy going guy, and she responded to his affections immediately. However, the husky/shep mix is a "Nervous Nelly", and Dr. Nation knew immediately how to calm her down. She took about 10 minutes sitting on the floor, talking to her and giving treats as she took a peek here, and there. By the time her exam was over, the dog didn't even realize she had been evaluated, and thought it was all a fun game. She really understands dog behavior and would recommend this vet without hesitation. The only criticism I would have is; she hired a second vet recently, and I did not receive any notice of the change in staff. About 6 weeks ago, I took "Nelly" in for a severe ear infection. When Dr. Nation didn't walk in, I hesitated. This poor dog was so traumatized by the painful ear treatment, that she just shakes uncontrollably at the office when a tech approaches her. She will allow Dr. Nation to examine her, but not the techs. We are still working on this by just bringing her in to enforce a possitive relationship. Again, Dr. Nation is a wonderful vet. I happen to have a difficult dog, and it is a lifetime of working on confidence issues with this girl. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Nation. Over the years I have always been impressed by how attentive she is with our dogs. She gets right down on the floor with them and treats them as if they are her own. She gives us options and is conservative with her recommendations and treatment. One of our dogs has terrible seasonal allergies....during this season she calls at least once every 2 weeks to check on him. This weekend our senior Lab, who is almost 15 years old, got hit by our SUV while puling into the driveway. She trots along side every time and this was a total freak accident. I called Dr. Nation on her cell, which she had freely given me, and she said, "stay put, I'm coming to you!". She arrived within minutes, calmly assessed our dog and said, "let's get her to the office." This was a Saturday evening and she was even able to call in one of her assistants to meet us...this speaks volumes about her staff as well!. Long story short, our dog is alive, stitched up and healing at home. Dr. Nation, of course, called to check on her and even offered to come by our house this week to check on Abbey. This woman heard her calling and is setting the bar for all vets in the Twin Cities. We love her!!! read more

This morning I have to give a big shout out to an AMAZING vet and veterinary clinic. My brother's dog "Rufus" which like to most is like a son to him, goes literally everywhere with him went downhill in a matter of 24 hours out of no where. Rufus was lethargic, his hind end/legs were bothering him, he was shaking and when he let him outside to go to the bathroom instead of flying through the snow at 100mph he just laid down. So what did my brother do, he panicked like most of us would. Both myself and our dad use the same vet and recommended he call PET NATION and speak with either of the 2 vet's there. Not only was "she" able to get him in right away to do an immediate exam, but she truly truly is a caring vet, and clearly is in this career field because she loves animals and her job. She is the most compasionate, down to earth, knowledgable vet we've ever met in the years of having companions. As suspected, Rufus has Lymes Disease. Love this vet! Our pets have seen both of the vets. Our two cats had been pulling their fur out and we worked with the vet to rule out possibilities and determine it was food allergies. When one cats needed emergency surgery, they took great care calling once she was out of surgery and once we took her home calling every few days to check up on how she was doing. Our other cat is very grumpy when there and Dr. Nation is so great with him and quickly examines him and always gives us relaxation wipes for the next visit. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their pets. I was seen with a sick dog, they got me in after hours. No other clinic would do that. I've been to a few other clinics in the Maple Grove, Elk River area and the prices are pretty much the same. There are several great reviews I could give for Pet Nation but today tops them all. My dog accidentally got outside and was hit by a car. I saw it happen. He wasn't breathing and was unresponsive. I rushed him to Pet Nation.Dr Lewis and her staff immediately took him and stabilized him. It was like watching a professional ER team. The bad reviews on here are pretty old. Brought my Great Dane in with a 1/3 dead tail. My poor Lucille was scared and in pain and the whole staff was amazing! Dr. Rossi was fantastic, and they all were great with communicating with me. They scheduled the amputation within the next business day.
