I don't live close by anymore but I still come to Dr. McElroy because she knows her stuff!!! I even brought my parents dog to her for a second opinion because a clinic in Alpharetta misdiagnosed his tumor as a "harmless lipoma." Dr. McElroy properly diagnosed and removed his sarcoma, and now he is a cancer free boy! I cannot recommend this vet ENOUGH! I first went with a Groupon and was happy with the care my dog received, as well as her subsequent annual exams with vaccines. When my teenage son adopted a kitten from a shelter, he brought her to see Dr. McElroy for vaccines and I told him to ONLY get the vaccines due, as I was paying for the vet bill, and knew that was all that was needed at that time. Dr. McElroy talked him into getting $90 worth of blood work to have "baseline values" and to see if there was any indication of potential issues. Of course the bloodwork all came back negative. When I spoke with her a few days later she said, "If I knew you were paying for it I wouldn't have suggested it." Huh? I had prior to that incident written a positive review of the practice . Since then, neither of us have been back. We are still on the mailing list and today received a mass e-mailing to the "Pet Med Plus fam", only and specifically, to advertise puppies for sale by one of her clients, complete with the seller's contact info. A sale ad for puppies is NOT an email I would expect from a vet's office. read more

Let me start by saying this is strictly in regards to their grooming service. Over the weekend I took my Malti-pom to Pet Med Plus for her 1st cut. I explained to the technician that my dog simply needed a "puppy cut". She didn't appear to know what that was. So, I went on to show her photos, etc.. I also showed her a photo of what I didn't want. So....a couple of hours later a gentleman calls to advise me that Tinka is ready! I get there and my dogs hair is BUTCHERED! On one side of her nose the hair is completely off, the other side is normal. One of her ears is shaped and cut like a schnauzer the other ear wasn't touched at all. Around one of her eyes it's cut way too deep and the other side is clipped just so... She looks like a dog that had mange and matted hair and they had to cut all the knots out. But that's not the worst part! I called after I left to speak with the vet because when I was there she was conveniently on the phone. So, no problem I ask the guy to please have her call me because I'm not pleased with her cut. Monday - No call. I call on Tuesday - No call. Again, conveniently on the phone. If you're always on the phone how are you able to treat other animals?? Oh that's right, you don't have any clients! I've always wondered why every time i've gone there, there are never any other animals. There's also an area where you can board your pets, etc....EMPTY (it's always empty)! They never have business, and now I see why. Everyone makes mistakes. My dogs hair will grow back. But the simple fact that they didn't take responsibility for their actions shows me exactly what type of business I'm dealing with. I'm glad it was only hair and not something regarding my dogs health. Lesson learned...buyers beware! read more

We recently took our 5 month old Miniature Dachsund to the vet here. Over the weekend he had swallowed an entire rib bone out of the trash. He needed surgery to remove the bone. I called another vet that had an emergency line, since it was late when he swallowed the bone. They gave me all of the wrong information. They told me to feed him and see if he is doing well in the morning. Feeding him was the wrong thing, since he was obviously going to need surgery immediately. The bone was about 4" long, the dog is maybe a foot long since he's just a pup. There was no chance of him passing it. The next morning I took him here and I could immediately tell this office cared about him and would do their best to make sure he did well. They were even carrying him around petting him when I came back to get him, instead of leaving him in a cage. He had to stay the night after surgery, so they put him with the cats so he could relax afterwards. Dr. McElroy was very informative and has alot of experience with animals. Our bill came out less than what we had originally discussed. I highly recommend this office. They have been great. read more

I've been to Pet Med Plus several times now. The past few visits were to deal with a stray who I became enamored with and has become part of the family. The new dog has several health issues and I took her to Pet Med Plus to get her on the healthy road. On our first visit, Dr. McElroy did a physical and came back with the dog had cataracts, luxating patellas, a double ear infection, and a nodule in her ear. Oh, and Dr. McElroy couldn't tell if the dog had been spayed. Long story short, we treated the ear infection. It came back. Another visit and another set of antibiotics. It came back again. Three ear infections in six months and with the last ear infection the dog developed hot spots. Dr. McElroy said it was a food allergy; however, the dog's food was never changed and consisted of a pretty reputable dog food. I decided to try another vet and right away the new vet was able to determine that the dog had clouding, but not cataracts, had not been spayed, and that the constant ear infections were due to seasonal allergies. With the new vet we are now on a treatment plan for the allergies and there is marked improvement in the dog. read more

I came by to get my cat up to date on his yearly shots, especially since a new kitten will be coming into our house soon. I was able to get an appointment the same day, and the front desk staff was courteous. I didn't wait a second. The vet that saw Tom was very friendly and straight forward, spoke on my level, and obviously loves animals. There was absolutely no "rushrushrush" with this vet, unlike many other vets I have visited. She took the time to help my cat calm down (with some very useful pheromone spray) and even cleaned out his carrier since he had urinated in it. She even told me there were several shots that my old vet had sold me on that I didn't need since he's an indoor cat. This is absolutely going to become my regular vet. The vet and the tech were very wonderful and Tom was treated like one of their own. Not to mention this place is really affordable! read more

I was happy with my experience here today. Unlike every other doctor I have ...this veterinarian was very talkative and didn't make me feel like I was wasting her time asking a ton of questions. I hate when I go to the doctor spend a bunch of money and it seems like they are trying to rush me out of there, but this was not what happened so I am very pleased. We did end up spending about quadruple what we planned on, but my sweet cat is worth every penny just to make sure she is OK. I do suggest they put a litter box in the visit rooms because my cat made a mess in their room, sorry! :( UPDATE: Nala loves her new Nutro Max food and hasn't thrown up since we made the change!! My dog Zelda had heartworms. The treatment was expensive. We worked out a plan and they went ahead and gave her the treatment. Even allowed me to pay in installments. I have also brought several others dogs to Dr. McElroy. I always feel safe leaving them in the caring hands of the staff. They are always super sweet to all my pets. Dr. McElroy listens. Most vets look at the chart then tell you what needs to happen but she listened to all my concerns. Even gave me praise on how well I was taking care of my 4 dogs. Friendly and responsive receptionists. Our two year old shih tzu recently visited for her annual check up and shoots. Dr. Mcelroy left comprehensive recommendations and evaluations about our baby' health. Groomer Tori also did a nice job trimming our baby although she received a small cut on her inner leg. We were a little concerned about this for it was not mentioned during pick up. If you own or have been around shih tzus, then you know that they are a very friendly and loveable breed so she is not aggressive towards handlers plus she gets groomed frequently so she is used to the process. Thus, the cut is a little alarming for us. Over all, undecided about returning. read more

I purchased 2 groupons for my dogs. When I called to make an appointment, I was told I could not use more than one groupon. I noticed in the reviews that some other customers were allowed to. I was also told that my husband couldn't use one in his name. And I was told I couldn't use the amount I paid for the groupon as a credit. Pretty much I wasted 59.00 for the second one, as Groupon won't refund the money. Great. Anyways, I chalked this up to my error and made an appt for my one dog. I took her in for vaccines and a shave down/toenail/bath. When I picked her up, I was in a hurry as I had my 2 year old with me. I got home and realized that I didn't have her rabies tag. I also noticed huge chunks of fur all over her belly and her head and tail were not blended into the shave down. It was a chunk where there was lots of hair and then none. She also had a couple scabs on her. I called to inquire about the rabies tag and was told that I would have to drive 45 minutes back to the office and pay $3.99 for a tag. I explained where I lived and that I was already unhappy with the services and customer service I had received and was told that they couldn't charge me $3.99 because it broke their "no charges under 25.00 over the phone" rule. I was told there was no one else I could talk to and there was nothing they could do. $3.99 y'all. This is apparently what I, as a customer, am worth to them. read more

Let me start of with this is in regards to the grooming side of thing, the Doc at the end! Before coming, I had found their offer on groupon so I called before purchasing because I want to make sure they will do what they offer and they will shave him specifically mentioning from head to legs, to ears to tail! They said yes of course! SIKE! They told me that they don't do the head or ears and legs and that is unheard of-really? My boy turned 5 this year and I have been doing this every year with Petco and my special groomer (she was out of town). Soooo not only did they NOT do what they said they would, they didn't even blend his body! Oh and then they told me they did the tail-when I got there, "oh and I just realized she didn't do the tail." Sooo The only thing they shaved and it was crappy! I could see the trail marks from the blade used and where they stopped! My poor baby boy!!! And so when I picked him up-by the grace of God, I just kept my mouth shut and called my Petco and gave her the heads up that we were coming to see if she could fix him! She couldn't really do anything because he was shaking now (which he never did-she even said that) and she tried to blend the choppy marks on his body too. Let me add on when she saw him she said "poor baby! What did they do to u!? Where did u go?" Never again! ...you get what u paid for, I guess! The Doc was fine, just kept telling me that his food gave him allergies and that I had the worst food-but when I went to pick up my boy, I remembered it was a different brand and told them. Friendly staff , convenient location but it ends there in my opinion. My review is based upon 2 separate instances where I brought my dog in and there was no true diagnosis but there was plenty of selling or shall I say costs. The bad part about the costs was I didn't learn about it until it was time to check out. The first incident involved a groupon which the vet did not honor nor did they offer to take the amount of the groupon against my bill. Instead they sent me back to groupon to get the credit. Keep in mind I am Not a new customer. The second time I brought my dog in for anal gland expression ($25) and left with a $240 bill for items and exams that I didn't request. However, the vet thought she would explore these options to figure out why my dog smelled. But of course like always it was an allergy which seems to be the result for everything . I did not request these services nor did the vet or staff advise me what they were doing and the charges associated with the services. I believe that they intentionally abuse your trust to run up charges and keep you coming back for more charges. read more

Dr. McElroy, Dusty and the rest of the staff at Pet Med Plus are amazing! They were patient, loving, and honest when it came time to care for my senior dog. Abby had a lot of health issues but I never felt like Dr. McElroy overmedicated her. We had complete trust and confidence with Dr. McElroy and the rest of her team. Dusty was also amazing-whenever we brought Abby in, Dusty showed her love as if she were her own. When it came time for Abby's passing, Dr. McElroy was very open and honest about what to expect. The whole team was very respectful and comforting during the whole process. I could not have asked for a more positive experience for my sweet Abby. read more

My dogs have gone to Pet Med Plus (Dr. McElroy) for 20 years for their care. After my first dog passed, I was so pleased with tlhe attention and personal care he received from the Doctor and her staff, I brought my new puppy in as soon as I got him. He will be 15 years old at the end of the month. He has some health problems, as he is not young, and I trust no one else but Dr. McElroy to care for him. She has brought him through some very tough times. The Doctor and her staff are amongst the best in the business. Trust them! read more

We have had seven German Shepherds over the last forty five years and never had a problem with any of them. Three years ago we adopted a ten week old puppy and shortly found that she was terrified of having her nails clipped. Every time we took her to the groomer she fought, tried to get away and had to be held down by two or three people. She weighs 90 pounds! I had taken her to Pet Med Plus for her annual check up twice and was impressed by the attention and kindness they showed her. The last time we had a checkup I asked them to clip her nails. Dr. McElory sat on the floor, spoked softly and kindly to her and was able to clip her toenails without a problem. Over the months we have gone back several times and are now able to Dremel the nails with no fight or fear. I have only praise for Pet Med Plus and recommend them to anyone who need veterinary care. read more

I have been using Pet Med Plus for 71/2 years for my cairn terrier and Dr. McElroy is an excellent vet. She had been recommending allergy testing for our dog to help with seasonal hot spots and issues for 2 years before I finally had it done and what a big difference the results and treatments have made. We would have to take our dog several times during the spring/summer season to treat this allergy issues, but once we started the new treatment we haven't had to go at all. She said he wasn't processing grains and recommended a diet change and that has made a huge improvement as well. She loves her work with animals and it shows in her work ethic and care of my dog! updated- after looking at my dog, I realized they basically didn't do what I asked. I have a terrier mix (not tricky). I specifically asked them to trim his feet and ears (he slides on the hardwood floors). Well after looking- I realize all they did was 'sheer' him and trim his tail- the hair on his feet did not change, nor his ears. (from the back, yes, but NOT in front of the ears) the face was not touched (as it it uneven). I will not go back. A 'deal' only as good as the value. This wasn't. I can self trim him for this...(and honestly not sure if they trimmed his nails or bathed him (he did not smell 'pretty' afterwards- which seems odd to me) a 3.7? Got a deal on grooming from Groupon. They were very nice (be advised they want a COPY of your rabies records, not just the 'tag'), The lady at the counter was super. Never had my dog groomed before (a terrier mix). They said they shampooed and trimmed the nails (not sure about that). The body grooming was fine, but have found several 'missed' spots (esp the face) what I pictured and got were not quite the same thing. The grooming looks nice but...a 'meh'. (I will keep using my wonderful (other) vet tho. This was a great idea on their part, as I never really noticed them before (behind a Waffle House). Love doc and staff. She has been our vet for over 20 years and through 6 animals. She is caring and very empathetic with us. We had two cats live until the age of 18. She was wonderful throughout their lives. We had two large dogs live until the ages of 12.5 and 10.5 when cancer claimed both of them. She helped us with her compassion and her knowledge to treat these animals that enabled them to live as long as they did with those infirmities. We now have two 11 year old dogs that she has treated since they were puppies. We will not go anywhere else unless she refers us. read more

Love Pet Med Plus. I used the Groupon originally and had such a pleasant experience. The technicians were so sweet and the veterinarian took the time to make my dog feel comfortable before giving him his shots. Shortly after having all of his shots done I was unexpectedly going out of town and needed to board my dog. They were so accommodating when I needed for him to have his bordetella shot. PET OWNERS BEWARE!! I was lured in with a Groupon coupon. Reasonable rates at first then lots of extra charges and up-sell (labs, food, Meds, surgery, etc) as other reviewers have said. One of my two dogs almost died after the vet changed a drug regimen that had kept her stable for 3+ yrs (she was 14 before and asymptomatic). Vet switched her back and she was healthy again. The straw was the day before leaving for vacation I realized I didn't have enough of one drug (for itching!) to last while I was gone. Vet said she would NOT give them until I came back in for more blood work. I told them i only had time to run in and out and I would have to cancel one of two meetings and would lose $250 in work to wait for the blood work. I begged for TWO PILLS ONLY (vs 30 pills) as a "vacation supply". She still wouldn't do it. I moved my business immediately when I got back. and learned PMP didn't two vaccinations that were due at our first visit months ago and I had paid for them. Sometimes saving a little money isn't the best thing for your pets. read more
