The best Pilates studio in town! The instructors are…read moreextremely knowledgeable in how each movement impacts the body. They keep an eye out and provide alternative movements for anyone with an injury or want to go with something less strenuous. The studio is well located in Maitland, on a main road. It is in a small strip plaza with parking out front, to the side, and in the back. Classes can be easily booked using their app and they offer a variety of memberships. The studio has about 12 participants per group class but there's also a huge room in the back for private lessons. The environment is definitely more calm and welcoming than other Pilates studios in the area. I think it's easy to be intimated by trying Pilates for the first time but the instructors take care in noting if it's your first time and will assist you in any way needed. Love how both of the bathrooms are stocked with feminine products and hair ties! There's also a kitchenette that has snacks and drinks sometimes as well. All the clothes, socks, and other products at the front are so cute...I just bought a new pair of grippy socks and I've gotten so many compliments on them. One of my favorite things about Soteria is the community that they've built. There are consistently events and the teachers put in the effort to build rapport with everyone in the class. I've actually made a few friends through the classes. I've gotten questions on what my workout routine is too and it's all been due to Soteria Pilates! I feel less stiff, tighter in the core, and mentally more balanced when I'm consistent with going to classes. Notables: I love Renee, Katie, and Gianna's classes. The owner and front desk/admin Jess, Chelsea, and Cici are all extremely nice too. I recommend Soteria to anyone trying to do Pilates!

Just over a month ago I decided I had enough of being unhealthy and overweight, but I had tried so…read moremany times to exercise and lose weight on my own just to end up failing after a few weeks. This time, after caring for my mother and grandfather after their strokes, and knowing my father had poor health at a young age, I was determined to make a change, but I needed a little help. I needed someone to help me with accountability, because I could give up and effect no one but myself. I looked at personal trainers in my area and found one that I considered, but saw the second personal trainer in the search and really liked their website and services they offered much better. I was timid and unsure of what to expect, but I mustered the strength and made the call to BeFIT Health Studio. Jeremy answered and he said everything I needed to hear. It was practically a done deal. We met and I really loved the studio, and Jeremy was so nice and compassionate that I didn't feel any embarrassment or shame. I also felt no pressure to sign up. The studio is not a big place that has dozens of people all at once that made me feel uncomfortable of myself. I was ready to sign up and pay right there, but he made me come back for a first "session" to be sure. Little did he know that nothing could have changed my mind at that point. Now, after three months I've lost over 40lbs, but more importantly, I have so many non-scale victories that I feel so much better. My heart function has improved, my glucose is no longer in the pre-diabetic range, and my cholesterol has significantly dropped. I am fitting into smaller clothing now and I noticed that I have more energy. I also find myself standing up straighter when I'm sitting or walking, and overall happier. While at the studio with Jeremy, we don't just exercise, we also discuss ways to find balance with eating, activities to continue the progression outside of the studio. This is going to be a long road, I'm no where near the end, but I feel so much better that I could cry tears of joy. I am so glad that I finally made the commitment to get healthier and find the help that I needed to get there. I couldn't have done it on my own without someone helping me to be accountable and pushing me forward. It does helps to have a little ass-kicking now and then.

I've always had a hard time putting on size, and for the first time in my life I'm actually seeing real progress! The gym itself itself is really cool too. If you want a gym where you don't feel like just another membership number, the trainers actually care about you, and you can have fun while making real progress, this is 100% the place. Couldn't recommend it more. 10/10.

Just a little info before you decide on a studio: there are many kinds of yoga you can practice…read more (See: http://www.yogajournal.com/basics/165) The most pervasive form practiced in north/northeast Orlando appears to be the westernized power/flow yoga. While this form is a good workout, it isn't for everyone at all times. For those interested in something reflective, more meditative, yet still provides excellent muscle training, Iyengar yoga is recommended. Problem: there are no Iyengar classes in Orlando. Just as good as Iyengar is Anusara yoga, a type of yoga developed by John Friend which takes from the Iyengar form and builds on its principles. I have visited many studios in N/NE Orlando. Most of the teachers at these studios have not been practicing long and have been teaching for less. This doesn't mean they aren't good teachers, it's just that with many years of experience comes wisdom and better teaching practices which equals a better more safe experience for you. I know a good teacher when I see one. I've practiced all kinds of yoga, been practicing for a while, and have taken classes with the best teachers in Los Angeles and San Francisco. I found Lake Center Yoga when I was looking for a teacher with many years of experience and someone who taught something other than power yoga. Sri Ekan and Nirgunavathi Ananda teach Anusara yoga at this studio. They have been practicing yoga for 36 and 31 years, respectively. (From what I've seen, the average length of practice for any teacher in Orlando has got to be ten years, if that.) I knew that this place was a gem after one visit. Sri Ekan's teaching style was casual without pretense or pedantry. I left the class feeling high as a kite and with knowledge that complemented my current practice. The studio itself is on the smaller side with a great view of a lake. The vibe is welcoming and laid back. The people were warm and friendly and of varying ages, ethnicity and build. Of note, there is a resident mascot, Honeybear, who has got to be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever encountered. I encourage everyone to give this hidden gem of a yoga studio a try. You will not be disappointed.
