We hired Chef Tyler to host a private dinner for my bachelorette party in Puerto Rico, and the experience was a disaster from start to finish. Five minutes before he was supposed to arrive and start cooking, he texted us saying he couldn't source our ingredients (snapper, which is local and available in almost every restaurant in PR) and was still an hour away. He asked if we were okay with a later dinner, which was completely unprofessional and inconvenient.
When we tried to call him to discuss the situation, he refused to answer and would only communicate through long, excuse-filled text messages. His texts were paragraphs of personal complaints about how many hours he works, how much he drives, and other irrelevant issues--all while trying to spin the blame on us for being upset.
After hours of back and forth and realizing he was not going to deliver on his commitment, we made other dinner plans. He offered to refund us, but even that process was drawn out and frustrating. It took nearly 24 hours, multiple follow-ups, and several phone calls to get the money back. During this time, he made excuses about waking up his assistant and kids, which had nothing to do with his unprofessional behavior.
Chef Tyler is unreliable, unprofessional, and full of excuses. The first negative review we saw about him was completely accurate, and we regret not taking it more seriously. Avoid him at all costs if you're planning an event--this is not someone you can depend on. read more
