The meal that the In House Chef team prepared for my sister's bachelorette was one of the highlights of our trip that the group raved about. Jose is great to work with and helped put on a fabulous beach brunch! For my 40th birthday, 25 friends flew in to PR for the weekend ... we did a fancy dinner out the night before and I wanted to host a Sunday brunch. Initially, I looked at our hotel which wanted to charge a ridiculous room rental rate ... so I started to research if and how I could do a beach brunch - feet in the sand - given that PR's Condado Beach is public. Enter some googling and the discovery of Jose at 'In House Chef'. I reached out via the Yelp 'contact' app and he responded within 2 hours saying that he would love to learn more about my event and was available on that date. He shared a simple intake form and asked me to complete it. Done. From there we had a few emails back and forth, agreed on a price that was much more reasonable than the hotel and were on the road to this event. The thing that I was so pleased by is that Jose was willing to try something new - as he'd never done this type of beach catering before. Because it was new and we'd never met before, we agreed to meet up the Friday morning before the event and do a quick walk over to the spot on the beach that I had in mind. We scoped it out and found a way for him to access it from the public road that seemed reasonable. He agreed to be ready at 8:30AM on Sunday and I paid the rest of the agreed price. On Saturday I got a few texts where Jose wanted to offer me a few choices of glass/plasticware and setup items - which was nice. I liked having that control and engagement. Sunday morning we woke up early and peeked down from our balcony. We could see him setting up which gave me additional confidence. We arrived at 8:25AM and everything was ready to go. I really liked his approach: instead of scrambled eggs he wanted to do an omelette station - with 4 burners/pans. That worked great and no guest waited more than 3-4 minutes for an egg dish to be started. Beyond that we had bacon, breakfast potatoes, lots of fresh fruit, baked goods, mimosas and coffee. The only snafu was that my group are coffee hounds and we ran out - but his crew went and got more from a local cafe really quickly. If you are considering a unique small to mid-sized group event in PR - definitely give Jose a shout. He's very professional, engaged and willing to try creative new things. My guests had a great time and a few were even surprised to learn he was NOT part of the hotel team - that's how professionally things were set up. Without a doubt some of the best food I've ever eaten!!!! A big "Thank you" for making our trip to Puerto Rico extremely memorable. I hired Jose from In-House chef for a day while we stayed in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico. We were a party of 9 people that included children and adults from 7 - 80 yrs of age. I reached out to several catering companies in the area and Jose was the only one that got back to me. He is extremely easy to work with, he did everything that he says he would, and was great with communication. The only thing I can warn a person of is because how busy he is I did wait a day to hear back from a email when working out the details of our event. We went out for a dinner at a high end restaurant in a extremely expensive gated community in a neighboring town. The food there was great but Jose's was better!. We had a round of 4 appetizers followed by two selections for supper and desert. EVERYONE loved the food! My daughter, who absolutely hates mushrooms, had 3 of the stuffed mushroom appetizers that Jose served (they were that good!!). The crème brule was beyond explanation as to how good it was. Our kids tried to lick the bowls clean. The proportion sizes are large and nobody went away hungry......we had enough food left over for a full meal the next day! The presentation of the meal was like you were in a 5 star restaurant. Jose and his helper never stopped working during the entire time he was there. My only disappointment is that I didn't hire Jose for several more days so as we could sample more of his delicious food. We have used Chef Jose on three separate occasions since we routinely vacation in Puerto Rico and visit to take care of our vacation properties. We can't say enough wonderful things about him and his food. On the first occasion, we decided to try him out for my boyfriend's birthday party for about 20 people. We had a particular vision for the food, and we wanted to specify each dish as well as the kind of service we wanted. The results were superb. The food was outstanding, and the experience stress-free. On our last trip in May 2016, we hired him to do breakfast and dinner for us for an entire week--such an amazing treat. The food was absolutely fantastic; every meal was different and completely inspired. And the best part was that the whole thing was completely worry free. I google top chefs catering in PR and they provided me In-House-Chef as being the best. I read the reviews and decided to got with them. I initially booked with the company in back in April for a surprise girls trip for my wife in Aug. Response times were lacking but I gave them a pass since the rep stated they were updating their comments system. We finally agreed on prices and I sent my initial deposit and agreed to have the remaining balance auto drafted. After checking my account I realized I had been billed for multiple invoices and had been payin on both for months. After informing of this error they refunded the transactions for the invoice in error, and I assumed everything was good to go. After reviewing the accurate invoice they had increased that price of service by nearly $500, with no explanation. I questioned the increase and they stated due to inflation food prices had increased. Sorry but that's not the customers problem, we're already under contract. It's fraudulent/ very unprofessional to try and increase cost especially without informing the client when your already under contract! Now I'm left to make last minute arrangements with another chef. Choose wisely and stay away from In-house chef! read more

We had such a wonderful private dinner on our vacation in PR! We were a group of 10 and I had contacted José a couple months in advance to discuss options. He had a huge variety of options, all with great descriptions for those (like me) not familiar with Puertoriccan cuisine. It was truly difficult to pick a meal for 10 - I wanted everything! He came a few hours before our planned dinner with one other chef, several kits of his tools and supplies, and got to work in our admittedly tiny rental house kitchen. The food they prepared was incredible. We opted for shrimp tacos and steak tacos to start, followed by mofongo-stuffed chicken and several sides. Everyone absolutely licked the plates clean. Of all the meals we had in our week on island, this was unanimously everyone's favorite. Best of all, the two of them cleaned the kitchen until it was absolutely spotless - it was truly cleaner than when we arrived! We found Chef Jose on Yelp and after reading all of his amazing reviews we decided to book Chef Jose for our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception. We emailed back and forth with Jose right up until our wedding and even though he was slow to respond to some of our emails, he was able to accommodate all of our requests, menu changes and vegetarian guests. Jose and his staff came to the house we had rented for the wedding and did all of the cooking and prep there and were able to provide a server and plates, cups and silverware so we didn't have to worry about those details. Our group of ten had the luxury of enjoying Jose's fantastic creations during Thanksgiving week at our vacation home in Dorado! He prepared three dinners for us, including the Thanksgiving meal and an "Iron Chef" style meal using whatever we had left in the fridge/kitchen on our last evening. Everything was delicious! He arrived with a rolling chef's tool cart of everything he'd need as well as all the food for the menus we'd crafted. The first night we dined on Prime Beef Tenderloin and his version of Chicken Mofongo. It was so much tastier than the ones we had in restaurants and my son remarked that it was "the best chicken" he'd ever eaten! Sides were a coconut curried rice, roasted yellow sweet potatoes with rosemary and mushrooms & a green salad with a divine pear vinaigrette. Thanksgiving was Jerk Turkey & a Roasted Leg of Lamb, accompanied by sauteed asparagus, mushrooms and peppers, avocado salad with tomatoes, mashed potatoes with chives and cinnamon stick bread with banana flambé and ice cream. Our last meal, made with what we had left in the kitchen, was a creative dish of grilled chicken with a pineapple chimichurri sauce, mashed sweet potatoes placed on top of a grilled eggplant slice wrapped like a bow with a thin carrot slice along with a lovely green salad. For those of you who might think it would be odd to have a stranger in your home for several hours, put that notion away! It's very easy to have Jose around! He's so nice & friendly and ultra efficient in his preparation, serving, and cleaning! Yes, I did say cleaning! Dishes folks, he took care of all of them! His meals were really one of the highlights of our trip. It allowed us the freedom to enjoy one another and the island and not have to stop our activities to prepare meals. I could go on and on about what a pleasure it was to work with Jose on my pre-wedding party for 200 guests. He always responded right away, assured me that anything I asked for could be done, and offered great suggestions when the things I asked for didn't make sense for a party of that size. We used Chef Jose for our recent trip to Villa Sofia (which is also a wonderful house to stay in) in Puerto Rico. He is excellent and we highly recommend him. He was able to cook for our party of 28 people for dinner and breakfast for several days in a row. His food is delicious and higher quality than most of the restaurants on the islands. He cooked a nice variety of foods for us and did all of the grocery shopping and clean up himself. He is very attentive, accommodating and works very hard. We would not hesitate to use him again!
