Walking down Danks Street, I was drawn into Hali because of massive signs promoting sales of up to 50% off. Since my apartment was in need of a rug, I entered. I didn't even know where to begin looking. There were so many styles of rugs, but Michael, the employee helping me out, said that the store likes to categorize the rugs into four different categories: traditional, modern, tribal, and transitional. Still, I was confused. Within these, there are subcategories based on the rugs' cultural origin, its material, or its aesthetic characteristics. I was immediately impressed by the inventory of rugs at this place. Michael also told me that they always receive new collections in addition to the timeless collections that have been around for decades. Since all the rugs are handmade and high quality, they are very expensive. Though when I was in the store, there were great sales to make these wonderful displays of craftsmanship much more affordable. Unfortunately, the rug I wanted to buy turned out to be too big to fit in my living room.

They stock a huge range from bric-a-brac to candles, scarves and kitchenalia, even sometimes lovely chinese painted furniture which I've never been able to work out how to get back home on the train. They used to be located in the old Midcity centre across the road, and to my mind have never replicated the lush and comfy feel of the old store. But the staff are always lovely, and they have sales where you can pick up a real bargain. When you're stuck for a last minute gift, it's the perfect place to rush in a find something slightly out of the ordinary.

They have a great range of home decor and small gifts you can use as a joke or on a serious note. I always come here for a last minute gift idea and it's great for secret santa parties. Make sure you walk through the whole store and look at everything. There are hidden gems everywhere and you might walk away with some pretty unique gifts.
