I have been purchasing my furniture from Shaker Furniture since 2000. Charles (the designer) helps…read moreyou design your furniture to the style and measurements to your home. There are narrow spaces in my home and I need custom made pieces that are measured to fit. All my pieces from Shaker have lasted over 10 years. I am glad I invested in quality. The attention to detail, the joinery and craftsman is exceptional. I love intentional (even slow) craftsmanship, the beauty of natural wood grain and solid timber. After you purchase from Shaker, you'll never go back to exported furniture from overseas- the timber and quality is not the same. Call them for an appointment!

I had initially stopped by because I was looking for an oil burner, but what I found was so much more and left with an armful. There were pillows and African fabrics, Japanese china and Moroccan lamps, candles and jewellery, handwoven baskets and hand painted frames. The textures and smells hypnotized. I could see a spot for each found gem in my place at home. I need this right? I kept telling myself. The staff is friendly and the prices are affordable. Don't forget to head upstairs for larger pieces such as dressers and stools. They take cards and cash so don't worry and prepare to spend some time.

There's a great selection of international food, a massage for your shopping exhausted feet and even tarot readings for curious minds. Surrounded by busking musicians and haggling hopefuls in search of a bargain, I take the leisurely walk through Rozelle Markets with a market coffee in one hand and market dumplings in the other. Unlike at Glebe Markets, you won't find stores of designer clothes or jewellery at Rozelle Markets. Instead you'll palm off your dumplings to a friend as you flick through racks of second hand coats, a household of discarded dresses & shoes, antique jewellery, vintage kitchen utensils and second hand books. My best market buys have taken place just before closing. In fact, I think this is my favourite time to take on Rozelle Markets. Whilst it's a far less leisurely endeavour, there's an urgency in the air as storeholders begin packing their goods into their trucks. It's your mission to find the best bargain at the end of the day and it's theirs to make that last sale/have one less thing to pack up. If you're going to get the price down at all now is the time they'll start dipping. But beware the crafty storeholders - if you 'overhear' a neighbour storeholder commenting that the frame you were checking out is going for a "really cheap price", then you were meant to hear every word of it. Whilst my parents commented loudly on their first visit that "there's a helluva lot of junk here", I've never left Rozelle Markets empty handed. The problem? Now they make the same comment whenever they enter my room.

I work in a clothing store and always recommend that my customers head to Spotlight for supplies if they plan on taking up a hem or changing some buttons around.
