What can I say about Dr. Torchinsky? Only that he is the best at what he does, and truly cares…read moreabout his patients. About 7 years ago or so I started getting sinus infections once, maybe twice a year. My primary doctor at the time told me I should consider seeing an ENT, and sent in a referral. I was sent to an ENT who was NOT Dr. Torchinsky. He was thorough but kept pushing for me to get surgery on my sinuses. Being I hadn't had surgery since I was 4 years old when I had my tonsils out, I was hesitant and ultimately decided I could live with a couple of sinus infections a year instead of going under the knife. Years went by, and with each passing year I was getting sinus infections more frequently. Flash forward to about a year ago when my new primary doctor tells me I should see an ENT. I thought "here we go again", but I agreed because at this point my quality of life majorly sucked due to all these sinus infections. This time I was referred to Dr. Torchinsky, no doubt because I had different insurance and was part of a different medical group. I was immediately stoked he was only a mile from my house, and that it was easy to make an appointment. I go in for my initial appointment, meet with Dr. Torchinsky and he gets right down to business. I tell him my history and issues, and my reluctance/fear of having surgery. He tells me that's fine, we're going to try EVERY possible thing he can think of with surgery being the last resort to solve my problem. I leave feeling confident, happy, and most of all well cared for, because this is a Doctor who is actually listening to me. Flash forward - after months of the trying everything in his arsenal, it was clear nothing was going to solve my issue except surgery. I was terrified and Dr. Torchinsky knew it, but he was so comforting and supportive, I felt like I was in the right hands, in fact I knew it. We set a date for surgery, I started looking into switching to my spouse's insurance plan to see if it would make the surgery cheaper, which it would, by quite a lot. His office encouraged me to do whatever I could to make the procedure cost me as little as possible out of pocket, and even helped me navigate the ridiculous process of switching plans and the confusion that ensued due to the lame brain insurance company (Thanks Deanna!), and before I knew it, it was the day of my surgery. Day of surgery I was nervous the staff at the outpatient surgery center really made me feel at ease, but most importantly Dr. Torchinsky came and spoke with me before surgery, and gave me the dose of his professionalism and charm that I needed not to leap out of my bed and run out of the place. The surgery went perfectly. In his words "textbook perfect". When he was done with my surgery he even went to the waiting room to tell my spouse everything went great, and that he'd be allowed back to see me once my anesthesia had worn off a bit more. My aftercare instructions were clear and concise, my follow ups were phenomenal and I was healing like a champ, and bless Dr. Torchinsky for putting up with my never ending inquiries of "is this normal". There were days I contacted him 2-3x, and he never acted annoyed or irritated. Even a couple weeks ago, months after my surgery, I hit him up to ask him about something, and he was not the least bit bothered and told me to contact him anytime I felt the need and he'd be more than happy to help. This man, this Doctor, is a Rockstar. He's the best of the best. If you need an ENT he's is the one you want. Side note: His front office staff is AMAZING, as is everyone else who works there. The reviews complaining about his "answering service" are just that...reviews referring to his answering service...a third party paid for take messages while the office is closed for lunch or the day. They are not his employees. ALSO- Doctor's offices are busy places, these people work their tales off! If someone doesn't call you back as quickly as you'd like, it's your job as your own health care advocate to give them a call to follow up. This is all pretty basic knowledge and doesn't warrant bad Yelp reviews.

Best doctor ever! I'm so fortunate to have been referred to this brilliant and personable ENT…read moresurgeon. It has been 2 weeks since my sinus and nasal surgery and I'm feeling really good and breathing better than ever before. I highly recommend Dr. T; you can be confident that you are in the best of capable hands.

I came to Dr. Scheurer after suffering for months from a very unusual set of symptoms which seemed…read moreto revolve around sinus related or inner ear problems. My GP and his go-to ENT referral were dead ends. I was a 30 year old frequent surfer and trail runner who had suddenly been completely debilitated to the point of stumbling over and blacking out in bouts of vertigo, and I was at my wits end. I went to Dr. Scheurer as a sort of last ditch shot at some kind of diagnosis. He was patient, took detailed notes and I could tell that he was genuinely interested in solving my "puzzle". He and his team went through the work to get a CT scan and MRI approved by my insurance and proscribed a round of treatment based on a working diagnosis. Although we never found an answer with Dr. Scheurer's office directly, the experience gave me the confidence to advocate for myself and set the expectations I should have with my physicians, which led me to change my GP. My new GP, who happened to be an infectious disease specialist, took clues from the groundwork laid by Dr. Scheurer and after 13 months of what felt like being a prisoner in my own body, one more slightly adjusted round of treatment and I was back to my normal self. I should add - We discussed the possibility of a procedure involving my sinuses. A prior ENT suggested it but couldn't really explain how he thought it would help yet he was still somewhat pushy about having the procedure. Dr. Scheurer also mentioned it but was very frank with me about the uncertainties vis a vis my symptoms. He was the FIRST physician who looked at my symptoms as a whole. We discussed the cost and given all the variables it just didn't seem worthwhile. He agreed. I felt very much in control of the decisions and never felt I was being pressured to pursue treatment that didn't "sit right" with what I was experiencing.

This is a follow up from a review from 5 years ago. My original complaint was a breathing issue and…read morea much younger me with a broken nose. DR. Scheuer fixed that and my breathing was much easier. But it also unveiled other issues that where masked by the broken nose. He looked at the issues, recommended another Medical Hospital to get the procedure done. After the first visit of a misdiagnosis. He did a follow up with the other Hospital and insured they looked at the issue. 2 operations later, the issue is fixed. But without his follow up and personal education while I was in his office, I would have just left after the other hospital misdiagnosis! Great Doctor and solid follow up on you as a patient!

I was in a desperate situation when my ears nearly ruptured as I descended on a flight due to sinus pressure from a simple head cold. My insurance put me in touch with Dr. O'Leary, who put a little hole (myringotomy) in each eardrum. Needless to say, I was terrified at the idea of this procedure but he really put me at ease. He was so professional, steady-handed, and compassionate. I'm in his care as my middle ears heal from the in-flight trauma. Whenever I've gotten nervous during the process, he's been there to reassure me or prescribe the right medication. I live in Los Angeles but you can bet that I'll continue to drive to San Diego to see Dr. O'Leary for any ear-related issues.

I had a horrible experience with this office. I called for an appointment on Monday morning…read morebecause I'd lost most of my hearing in my right ear. They had me fill out paperwork online and send copies of my insurance cards. They said they'd call me to schedule an appointment. No call on Monday. On Tuesday I get a voicemail and email after 5:00 P.M. saying my appointment was scheduled for a week out. They also asked me to fill out more paperwork. In the meantime, frustrated by not getting a call back from O'Leary's office, I called another doctor. He saw me on Monday late afternoon and again on Thursday morning and restored my hearing by removing wax buildup. Here I am on Friday, fully recovered. If I'd waited for O'Leary, I'd still be waiting for my first appointment. Ridiculous.
