I went to this periodontist in 2024, so my review is a bit late. My dentist made the referral (due to my dentist's poor judgment in referring me to a quack, I dropped him too). To make a long story short, Dr. Westbrook was supposed to diagnose a bone graft on my bottom molar 2nd to the very back. Instead, he worked on the wrong molar on my upper side. His office charged me $500 for a deep cleaning, (no bone graft mentioned mind you) that is pretty steep. Needless to say, I had to receive a bone graft from a different competent and qualified periodontist a year later (who worked on the correct molar). Steer clear from this office. I had 2 dentists and one periodontist tell me I needed a bone graft on the same molar, whereas Dr. Westbrook was completely clueless! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Westbrook's for about 10 years. He's very highly skilled and keeps up on technolgy of latest and greatest products. I've trusted him with 3 implants. I see him for annual implant exams, well worth it to keep up on the health of your implants, even if you're paying out of pocket. How many dental providers remind you of daily use for your well being (water pick, night guard and soft tooth brushes), not their own? read more

Dr. Westbrook made me feel extremely uncomfortable and completely lost my trust. Save yourself a lot of stress and money and do not go to this periodontist. During my initial consultation, he recommended a deep cleaning with laser disinfection, which was scheduled to be completed during two separate appointments. My out-of-pocket cost was $732. The laser disinfection (which is not covered by insurance) accounted for the majority of the cost - $540. I was concerned that I didn't need the laser, but he made it sound essential so I went with it. My first appointment was fine and the hygienist who performed the deep cleaning was great. I had my second appointment a couple weeks later with a different hygienist (who was also good) but as she was finishing my deep cleaning, I overheard a conversation between her and Dr. Westbrook that indicated she was not going to use the laser and that she was not laser certified. However, I had already paid the full cost for the cleaning and laser up front so I asked Dr. Westbrook about this. He said if I "want" the laser, they can do it but it isn't necessary. I said if it's not necessary, then I would prefer not to do it but I need to be reimbursed because I already paid for it. I was also confused about why he recommended the laser during my consultation, if it was not necessary. At that point, after he realized that he had recommended the laser initially, he insisted that I needed the laser to achieve the best results. When I asked why he had suggested the laser was optional just a few minutes ago, he said, "I have 400 patients so it's impossible for me to remember what I tell every patient." He continued to argue with me, all the while my mouth was numb with local anesthetics. In the end, I went with the laser (even though it sounded like a scam at that point) because I was too tired to argue or try to get my money back later. Dr. Perry Westbrook will recommend unnecessary, expensive treatments and then not take the time to read your chart. To him, you are just one of "400 patients" so he does not care about you. read more

I was referred to Dr Westbrook by my regular dentist, coz my gums were a mess (they really were, lots of bleeding and deep pockets.. where you don't want them!). Dr Westbrook personally explained what would be involved in the surgery, before it, during it and afterwards. He has a peculiar kind of way of talking, but the guy knows his stuff and is actually a really friendly guy when you get to know him. Definitely a case of initial impression not being that great, but over time you realize the guy's the real deal.. Anyway, so my surgery went off well, and my gums recovered. Since then, I go to him regularly now for my "off cycle" cleaning, and he always bills me a reasonable amount coz the insurance only covers so many visits a year. This office can be summed up in one word: smarmy Office staff (while on the phone) and the dentist could definitely be friendlier. Dr. Westbrook comes off judgmental, right off the bat. Heard Dr. Westbrook ask an older patient if they could have a staff person help write a yelp review. Uh, that's not real people, real reviews. I mean, come on! Look at all the gushing 5-star reviews. Unreal. No bueno. If you got referred to this office, best to ask your dentist to give you another referral. Most people cringe when they find out that they have to see a dentist, and yet it is something most of us experience at least once a year. My recent experience at Westbrook's office was a breath of fresh air, for Dr. Westbrook along with his staff dealt with my issue in a timely and professional manner. The front office manager Sara was informative and explained the process to me in terms that I could understand. There was no wait Dr. Westbrook seen me at the scheduled time with no delay. The actual procedure lasted less than 40 minutes, and when it was over I had the feeling that I would not hesitate to continue my treatments at this office. If you are like me and are afraid of pain Dr. Westbrook is the perfect Periodontist to see. After getting a shot of anesthesia he was careful not to cause me any discomfort as he carefully preformed surgery and prepped me for an implant. We may not look forward to most dentist visits, but if you need to see one I highly recommend seeing Dr. Perry Westbrook's office. read more

When I found out I needed to get some periodontic stuff done. I was freaking out. My original periodontist, who wasn't on ANY network, wanted to get me in surgery as soon as they could when they found out I had a problem around late October. (even though it would exceed the maximum coverage after he does all the deep cleaning). So when I got a new job in December, I went back to my favorite dentist (Dr Alexia Lucero) and asked her for a referral to someone who is within my Guardian network. Cuz the deep cleaning I did with the other dood cost me an arm and a leg since he wasn't in the network. My dentist immediately thought of Dr. Westbrook. So JOY! He is in my network, and I immediately made an appt. They KNOW about my concern over finance. Even Dr. Westbrook understands. He was nice, and explained everything to me patiently. He didn't act like he was in a hurry to leave. He was professional and caring, and I really felt like I could trust him. I was a bit freaked out that i needed a few surgery, but he was able to reassure me that it'd be nothing big. The staff there is totally friendly too and helpful. They follow the procedure and sends paperwork in to the insurance to get a written estimate/preapproval type thing... so now I'll know exactly how much I have to pay. In any case, I feel that i"m in good care, and that's really important for me. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for a periodontist. ====== Just got my gum surgery yesterday - 4/11/08. Dr Westbrook was nice and pleasant and it helped calm my nerve. They have gone above and beyond making sure that I feel comfortable due to my high anxiety as well as understanding my situation. I have never had that with any other dental office that I have ever visited. They have changed my outlook on how I see dental procedures as well as how I view the goodness of people. Dr. Westbrook is quite agressive on the gums. It seemed my dental hygiene was also never good enough eventhough I do brush regularly twice a day, floss and use mouthwash everyday. I think a little more sensitivity from Dr Westbrook would have been nice given that everyone is different. Also, I feel his services are a bit pricey. Given that he wasn't a provider under my insurance and my insurance only paid for what was reasonable and customary, i would have had to pay approximately $750 out-of-pocket for a deep cleaning. I dreaded to have to pay this amount of money just so that I could be in pain. So finally after putting it off for almost a year, I decided to switch to a periodontist that was covered under my insurance. I have to say, I am glad that I made this decision. The new periodontist was gentle and understanding. I can't even say enough about the office staff. They were awesome! After the doctor examined my teeth, their office person immediately advised me how much I would have to pay out of pocket - $176 - before they proceeded with the cleaning. I just saved myself $574! After approving the services, the new periodontist gave me the 'option' of a topical anesthetic or an injection (which was stronger), which I was never given any options for at Dr. Westbrook's office. This was a huge relief to me because I dreaded all the poking. So it was a very pleasant experience. In the end though, I was told that the gum sugery by Dr. Westbrook I had a while back was done well. So if price is not a consideration and you are tolerant of gum poking, then Dr. Westbrook might be okay. read more

This man is a shill, he was constantly trying to upsell me on my dental work, refused to let my regular dentist for deep cleaning and insisted that he do the work, gave me gum check numbers consistently 2-3 points lower than my dentist did. I have to second Paul C. I had a very similar experience. He pressed extremely hard with the gum check, causing pain, and then "demonstrated" how lightly he was touching my gums by oh-so-gently pressing on my arm. Then he put the pick back in my mouth and told me about all the gum decease I have. No kidding...you just poked an unsterile instrument into my gums. Of course I have gum decease now! I felt like someone was trying to sell me snake oil from the back room. Definitely did not leave there with any confidence in his opinions. I also believe Tu D. is his dental assistant - she looks a lot like her. Or maybe I am showing some bad taste on this one. Anyway, don't think this is a good periodontist to go to. read more

Dr. Westbrook is not sensitive to patients' pain. He continued to drill when I told him I could feel it. I think it was inconvenient for him to stop at that moment to give me another lidocaine injection. A procedure that was supposed to take one hour stretched into two full hours while he took breaks to fit in other patients. I question his professionalism after he became irate over a suture that wasn't going quite right. If I were to have gum surgery again, it would not be with Dr. Westbrook. Update on 9/14/2010: I needed to have similar gum surgery performed on another tooth but this time I went to Dr. Fagan in San Jose, who came highly recommended by my dentist. He performed the surgery quickly, in just 40 minutes, and I experienced no pain. He was very nice and professional. Update on 6/23/2015: Comparing the two gum surgeries now 5 years later, the one that Dr. Westbrook did has a big lump on the gum where the graft was placed, whereas the one Dr. Fagan performed looks smooth and the gum line is at the correct level. There is no question in my mind who is the better periodontist. read more

I needed tooth extraction and an implant. My wife referred this place. Doctor analyzed and informed that the gums were bad and needed treatment. He extracted tooth and treated gums really well. Overall health of gums improved significantly in one year. Today, I have the actual implant surgery! Doctor is exceptionally thorough and I am hoping for a success. Previously, once, I was scheduled for surgery. But there was a minor infection and the doctor fixed it and didn't charge for it. Thank you. Front office staff is very friendly. They send reminders so that patients don't miss appointments. Once I had to go to Australia and needed a change and they were kind to accommodate in the last minute. Thank you. read more

I heard a lot of scary things about gum surgery in general before i went to dr. Westbrook. Including 'don't do it!'. The key is to find not just a doctor who met the requirements to be a peridontist but someone who cares about their work and is an artist. During my procedure, which was right in front of my mouth and highly visible, he repositioned the graft when the first try was probably acceptable. After the surgery, in my first check-in, the graft looked fantastic. I'm glad he took the time to go beyond acceptable. If acceptable,is not acceptable to you, go see Dr. Westbrook. I'm sure there are uncontrollable situations even to Dr. Westbrook, but he will take the time to do what it takes to do it right. One more thing, follow the post-op instructions to the letter. I have recently returned back to Dr. Westbrook for my Periodontist surgery, and he performed LNAP, Laser Assisted New Attachment, procedure. I MUST admit that he is highly qualified in his field of work, and I practically did NOT feel any pain whatsoever. I was numbed up before the procedure very comfortably by him, and everything went so smoothly that I was very surprise. In addition, Dr. Westbrook is highly professional, and he explain the procedure, the benefits , and everything else associated with gum surgery in a very simple way that you would not have any confusion about it. His staff are highly professional and have excellent greeting attitude. I would highly recommend him to anyone. This guy is a total gold digger. I was referred to him by my new dentist and right off he goes off on his soap box saying my teeth are in horrible shape and i need a deep cleaning. This was completely a surprise as I always had pretty good gums and never had an issue. Going to two other dentists confirmed my suspicions that he was more interested in getting my insurance money than actually assessing the situation. And what do i get in the mail? A bill for a 15 minute meeting cuz he charges more than what the insurance company allows for a initial assessment. read more

I reactivated my Yelp account after many years of dormancy just to say how wonderful Dr. Westbrook and his office are. Everyone I've encountered, from the office managers/receptionists, to the hygienists, to the assistants, to Dr. Westbrook himself, are extremely professional, helpful, and great at what they do. I started seeing Dr. Westbrook back in October 2014 and have been back many times since for follow ups and each time, I have been impressed with how pleasant my experiences have been. Yep, believe it or not, I actually don't even mind going to the periodontist! Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Westbrook does really quality work. I'm really pleased with how well my procedures went and how much better I feel. When I saw my family dentist a couple weeks later, he remarked how great my gums looked. I consider that a job really well done! On an administrative note, phone calls and questions are promptly and thoroughly answered, and it is easy to schedule appointments. This all makes for a great office experience. I highly recommend Dr. Westbrook and his team for anyone looking for a periodontist. When you go to the office, you get a sense that they truly care for you as a patient, a rarity in this day and age. My smile looks and feels a million times better, and I have this office to thank. My regular dentist office referred me to Dr. Westbrook for a gum graft. I was hesitant because I'd had the procedure done several years ago by another periodontist, and the graft didn't take. The office staff is exceptionally kind and supportive. Dr. Westbrook took a conservative approach. He seemed very skilled and the procedure went well. I was given clear directions about how to take care of the surgery site, and was seen twice a week to help insure success. I followed the doctor's recommendations about eating soft, cool foods, and avoided anything acidic. It has been a month, and it appears the graft has taken. I would recommend Dr. Westbrook to others who need this procedure. If I ever need another graft, I would not hesitate to return to this office. Dr. Westbrook and his staff are awesome. read more

This was my first osseous surgery and bone graft. I was very nervous about not only the large expense but if it really was going to help or hurt me in the long run. I am no doctor and was skeptical & didn't trust the pamphlet info alone. So I talked with a dentist/friend and searched the web. These helped convince me I needed to get the surgery done but raised many more questions for me: what bio-materials were the best choice; how to keep food & infections out just afterwards; what incisions are made; what risks; etc., etc. I must have really tried both the Dr.'s and the admin's patience - they said no one asked as many questions! But they were all (specially Suzie) really patient and understanding with me. The Dr. even scheduled a 1-on-1 with me to answer a lot of my concerns. I found Dr. Westbrook is very personable and truly listens and communicates at my level. The surgery was comfortable & pain-free. I wanted to get the most for my money so I followed all the instructions & at the 3rd week after my right half was done, everything is going without a problem - no infections! Also, I hardly felt any pain the first days following. I never needed Motrin, I only took two Ibuprofen-200mg pills a day, and for only 3 days, & none after that. At 2 months afterwards, I am flossing and brushing my right-side gums as normal for a couple of weeks now. A good confirmation for me was to compare my right gums (after surgery) and left gums (with original periodontal disease). At night especially, I really am aware of the bad taste & film build-up on the left side which is not present on the right gums any more. I trust Dr. Westbrook and leave the technical details to him. I have been seeing Dr. Westbrook for a number of years, and I have nothing but praise for him and his staff. I was referred to Dr. Westbrook by my excellent long-time dentist, Theresa Frank, because I required gum surgery. I needed the procedure done on both sides of my mouth, and everything went great! His assistant, Leilani, was absolutely wonderful as well, and made certain that I was very calm prior to the sugary. The surgery was not painful at all, and he had prepared me well for everything afterwards as well. Afterwards, in order to maintain my dental health, I began getting quarterly cleanings (twice a year from my dentist, and twice a year from Dr. Westbrook). I have had 4 gum procedures done by Dr. Westbrook and all went smoothly and were successful. As a physician I can tell you it is foolish to go for the cheapest or fastest or least painful solution. Taking good care of your gums and doing necessary surgery will make it mosre likely you will not need dentures. Trying to do healthcare on the cheap is wasteful. I have seen cheap breast implants (OMG-awful), burns from cheap laser treatments done by untrained personnel, eye damage from permanent eyeliner done by unlicensed help---all of it. You might save a few dollars upfront but will pay for it later. Save money on entertainment, gasoline, fast food--but not your health. read more
