Our family came in just about a week ago. The store looks wonderful from outside. Inside is a bit of a tight fit, but a quick visit shouldn't be too uncomfortable. We bought gingerbread cookies which were okay. We did see them being made which was neat. We ordered tea, which was also okay. Neither item really stood out. The atmosphere and service are a bit intertwined for us. Staff were not particularly friendly or attentive which made us want to make the visit short. We likely would have purchased more, but the atmosphere was short of festive. Perhaps an early morning visit is advisable before staff have a long day of tourists. I think a visit is okay, but this place can also be skipped. I sort of want to give three stars, but since it was one visit, I will give the benefit of the doubt and round up to 4 stars.

I would skip the gingerbread cookies and go straight for the Sakrajda which is a gingerbread strudel with apple and walnuts. The treat was not overly sweet, very fresh tasting and keeps well. The texture is pretty moist compared to the gingerbread cookies as well. The shop is absolutely adorable and a delight to the senses of sight and smell. I brought back two bags of the Sakrajda to give as souvenirs and we ate a whole bag of the treats during our visit. These were nice to pop in your mouth quickly for breakfast with coffee.

Pernickuv sen (The gingerbread man's dream). If your in Prague add this to your list of places to visit. It's a small adorable little shop. I've never been much of a gingerbread fan but then I get the American junk. This is made in the store. You can watch staff knead the dough as well as decorate the finished product. The store smells amazing, and there are poppyseed rolls, kolaches and other options too. I ended up going back twice it was so good. Even packed some for the trip home.

Such a beautiful little cookie! Too bad it was bland and disappointing. At least it was pretty!

Gingerbread is one of my favorite foods on Earth, so I was intrigued when I read about this gingerbread shop in Prague. It's located down a little side street but look for the green doors and you know you've found it. Walking inside is like stepping foot into a magical cookie palace! It's a tiny shop that's crammed full of cookies in all shapes, sizes, and colors. It's such a colorful place that you'll want to take lots of photos. There are big cookies, small cookies, gigantic cookies, cookies with hearts, cats, flowers, frogs, penguins, trains, cars, dogs, cartoon characters, flowers, maps of the Czech Republic and more. Watch out if you go here with kids, as I think they will be very overstimulated. I'm an adult and it was a feast for my eyes as well as my tummy! The staff was less than friendly (hey, c'mon guys, you're obviously a tourist destination, how about a little more hospitality?) but we managed to complete our transaction with very limited English. Prices are high, especially for Prague. I chose a traditional sized gingerbread boy and a miniature iced flower for around $5. I thought the cookies were quite bland and disappointing overall, so much so that I would not recommend you go out of your way to visit this store. It also concerns me how long some of these cookies have been sitting on the shelf because there were literally thousands of cookies for sale. Maybe I should've picked something different, but I really don't get the fuss about this place (and I've eaten traditional gingerbread all over Germany, from North, South, East and West, so I'm very well versed in the diverse styles and methods of gingerbread)! At least the crunchy icing on my cookies was a work of art -- there were two women sitting at a table in the middle of the place hand-piping icing onto cookies! Still, this place cranks out lots of traditional Czech gingerbread, and it's made with a simple recipe of butter, honey, nuts and warming spices. Buy a piece of the poppy seed kolache if you want a taste of a real Czech treat.

It a cute little cookie store and the gingerbread cookies were amazing. The staff were helpful and the cookies were delicious. This inspired me to try making their version.

We made a stop and was wide eyed upon entering, as everything behind the glass counters looked delicious. They had everything from kolaches, to gorgeous desserts, open faced sandwiches, to salads and meat croquettes. We tried the Prague ham with egg, half cheese half Prague ham/pepperoni, and the caviar chlebicky. Each open face sandwich was delicious. Every item was carefully placed on each slice of bread. A layer of potato salad topped with a slice of cucumber and tomato, half boiled egg, and thin layer of Prague ham. The ham was light and thin, and not overly salted as you would find in a supermarket. So easy and delicious to eat, that you can't just have one. I tried the caviar oblene chlebicky which had two different types of caviar on it. It was nice, light, and not salty either. Good cheap eats. One star off as the ladies behind the counter were not very friendly.

I passed by Oh Deer Bakery on my way to sightsee, and every opportunity I had, I would catch myself thinking of when I would be able to stop by. I checked the place out the night before I was going to leave and was set on going before heading to the airport. I researched their small menu extensively and was so set on getting the Slanina, which was a peanut butter filled cronut with a maple syrup glaze and bacon on top. My heart broke when I saw that they didn't have this, so I ended up getting the mini versions (58czk each, instead of the 89czk if you got a regular size) of the Jahoda and the Nutella. The Jahoda was a white chocolate topping with a sweet and tart strawberry mascarpone filling. I really don't know what drew me to this one because I hardly ever opt for a fruit flavor when it comes to baked goods, but I am SO glad that fate made me get this one because it was so amazing! The Nutella one was just as amazing, but in a completely different way. Unlike the stiffer, tarter strawberry mascarpone filling, this one was filled with ooey gooey thick rich salted caramel. It was much sweeter than the other cronut, but the combination of nutella and caramel went so well. The cronut itself is also an A+ in my books. The outside was crisp and the inside was soft, fluffy, and beautifully layered. The cronut itself was also not super sweet (even though it was coated in sugar), which made it a perfect vessel for the delicious fillings. The worker was also so kind and patient with me while I took a decade to decide what I wanted, and was sweet to let me borrow a knife and stay in the store for the next 10 minutes to take photos. Needless to say, the next time I'm in Prague, I'll definitely coming back, crossing my fingers that they'll have the Slanina this time!
