Moving here to Vancouver from the States 18 months ago, I had no idea how the Canadian, or the…read moreprovincial BC medical system worked, nor did I have a GP here for myself or my family. I was SO lucky to be referred to Dr. Brian Yau here (and lucky that he was taking new patients, too). In the past, when I lived in Seattle, it took me a while to find doctors and dentists that I "clicked" with. I always felt that it takes a team effort - me and my doctor, - to be most effective in my staying/being healthy. So it's critical that I'm comfortable with my doctor to talk openly with him or her. It's in my best interest to "click" with him/her. And it's critical that he/she be knowledgeable, receptive, accessible and helpful. Bonus if the office staff is friendly and works with me and my schedule. Dr. Yau and his office staff are all these things, and more. They've fit me in the Dr's schedule ASAP when I needed to be seen. Dr. Yau is working with my WA doctors to follow up on past conditions and provide continuity of care. He takes the time to patiently go over all the many ways the system here differs from that in the States, and helps me navigate my way here re: blood work, referrals to other medical specialists, etc. He's also been incredibly helpful for my daughter, too. Another bonus here: Dr. Yau is incredibly prompt. (I always get irked when kept waiting and waiting, appointment after appointment, at doctors' and dentists' offices. It's as if my time isn't respected at all. Sure, once in a while is understandable but when it happens regularly, it really rubs me the wrong way). Dr. Yau has always seen me within 5 minutes of our appointment time. To me, that is yet another sign that he cares about his patients. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Yau and the office staff here. My only caveats (which are admittedly minor): no free parking or validated parking here, and no wi-fi in the office (bummer). Otherwise, this practice here is stellar. I consider myself super lucky to be a patient here.

Then I met Dr. Nguan and she is one of the most kind hearted Dr's I have ever been to! It took me years to find a Dr that would take on new patients and to luck out and find the most amazing Dr in the city is just amazing! The reception is great, they are friendly and helpful. After being to a lot of clinics with extremely rude receptionists this really tips the scales in their favor! They always work with me to find an appointment that will suit my schedule which is really important for me since I don't live or work close to the office (but it's worth the travel!) I believe one of the locums I saw Dr. Bergman now works in the office as well so if you are looking for a male Dr he is also amazing!

This is not a regular doctor's office, but part of the UBC students' training. About 10 doctors,…read moreone nurse (for pap exams), one dietician are here, to supervise the students. As a result, each appointment starts with the student coming in and asking about your symptoms. She may perform small exams as she fees fit, then go confer with your doctor. Then, they both come in and offer prescriptions or whatever is necessary. I like this because I get a thorough inspection and the student usually narrates what she is doing (feeling the lymph nodes, etc.). I happened to go twice a month apart, and the student was different. So, this setup is not for people who want to see one doctor quickly and get out. Apparently, they are funded by the government by how many patients are registered there, as opposed to the usual offices being reimbursed per patient visit. This is why they ask patients to always come to them, and not go to walk-in clinics. I have been able to book an appointment with my doctor the day I call. If he is not available, they offer an appointment with another one of the doctors. The official address lists it as on Oak St, but it is deep inside the hospital complex, so it's easier to get to from the parking lot entrance on Heather at 29th Ave. Follow the sidewalk on the north side. It's the building after the first crosswalk. Go up the ramp on the corner.

My daughter is very comfortable and likes coming as well. Sometimes the exams take a bit longer because of the teaching setting, but as a plus I can always get in within a day or two to see a doctor, even if not my own another is on call on Saturdays. They are now located on Broadway at Willow and there is parking available on the roof.

Beyond the fact that one can access gratis medical visits--thanks, Canada!--this clinic is a 'clean, well-lighted' & welcoming space for women from all social strata. My visit with the RN began ten minutes after my 10.30 appt. time. The client just before me had left at about a quarter past the hour. Be prepared to wait a bit, I guess. Not used to not having to pay for every little thing regarding health care, I was compelled to make a financial donation after my visit as both a thank-you & a way to support what is a very necessary women's institution. When I inquired, I was told that the collective would gladly accept a donation of women's clothing. Preferring to make a monetary donation, I was sent to chat with the clinic's director. PayPal would be the way to go, if one is so inclined.

If you're a woman looking for a walk-in clinic in the area, I highly recommend them.

I cannot get the prescriptions I need - the clinic says - they don't have a record. Or - we can't find the record and you need to come back in for a reassessment was the latest problem. Dr. Jordan Sugie and his dermatologist will scam the government by submitting something that was unnecessary given I had the prescription many times in the past. Every time I have an appointment with this clinic they are rude. Sugie rude and so is the dermatologist who are colluding together against the government and us the taxpayers ultimately. So what they are doing is charging the government of Canada extra unnecessary charges and scamming tax payers. Thats not ok. Then, the same Doctor was supposed to call me (I had a phone appointment booked) to follow up on test results but she did not call.
