A Most Excellent Soho Establishment…read more Having lived in London for upwards of twenty years, and knowing Soho rather intimately, I can say with some confidence that this establishment is a genuine delight. The food was splendid, the service exceedingly proper, and the atmosphere possessed that unmistakable charm which makes Soho such a grand corner of London. I have eaten in no small number of establishments over the years, yet this one has earned a full five stars from me. A thoroughly enjoyable experience from beginning to end, and one I should happily recommend to any gentleman or lady seeking a proper meal in the heart of London. Five stars, without hesitation. -Sir Archibald Beuamont

the poor rating has to do with the rude staff at this location. i'm not sure if he was the owner or…read morea staff member, but there was an older man who was very rude to us when we arrived. we entered the establishment, as that is what you typically do when you want to dine at a restaurant, and he came up the stairs and didn't even offer a greeting. i mentioned that we had a reservation for that time and he immediately just kept repeating that our table was outside. we went outside to their small patio dining area, and saw that there was a table with a "reserved" sign on it, so we sat down. i thought it was incredibly rude that he spoke to us in that manner, and it seemed like he expected us to somehow know that that table was ours before we had even spoken to any staff. i was seriously considering getting up and leaving but i decided to give this place one more chance. it then took a while, but we were eventually served by a much more pleasant and friendly younger server, who helped make this experience better. i would give this place a lower rating, however i must admit that the food was delicious. as an american tentatively wanting to try british bangers and mash, this exceeded my expectations. we all spoke about how the sausage was plump, snappy, and delicious, definitely one of the best we've ever had. the mashed potatoes were also amazing- cheesy and heavenly, and i'm not even usually a mashed potatoes kinda person. i am glad that we stayed solely for the delicious food, but i would not come back because of our experience with the staff here. the place already was one of the emptier spots on this very busy soho street anyway.

He was super attentive. Thanks for that as our waitress hardly checked on us and walked right by without acknowledging us. I couldn't even flag her down for a jug of water or more milk as if she was trying to avoid us. I actually walked to the lobby to get a cup of water then asked Craig for some water as well as the kid's dessert. When trying to get the bill, she stormed right by us in a hurry to get another tables order in... that's great, but it would be great if you could just bring us a bill so we can leave. Obviously, we did something wrong that made you want to avoid us. I didn't even complain that you brought out garlic bread vs the cheese garlic bread. I didn't even bug you for ketchup when my daughter really wanted it. Geez. For the food: Chicken tikki curry: ok Beer battered Haddock & chips: smelled fishy and wasn't warm Kid's fried chicken jenga: delicious Rainbow beetroot: ok as I'm not a fan of mustard seeds that were all over it. The pistachio, beets and goat cheese was good. Overall, nice decor and place. The place seemed lively. The service lacked a bit but Craig made up for it. Thanks Craig. He gets the extra star for this restaurant. He was all over the restaurant and made sure everyone was fine.

What can I say about the King's Arms? I'm at home here. When we moved to the UK, honestly our most…read moredesired feature was walking distance to a pub. We got stumbling distance to one of the best pubs in the country. This place is well-regarded by everyone in the region. I've met people here who give up walking distance to their local to drive here and have a good time. That says something. My first night here I made friends, and each time I've been here since I find myself in good company either with neighbors we've met before, or people who know we're new to the area and want to welcome us. I can't begin to tell you how often a quick pint before dinner turns into a long session at King's Arms. I wouldn't have it any other way. These guys truly embrace the concept of being the center of village activity. No TVs, no WiFi, these things distract from the community. You come here to interact with your friends and neighbors, enjoy a good beer, and enjoy living in the company of others. They regularly have events to bring the village out. The most impressive of which was the dinner they hosted on the night of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They served the exact 10-course menu served in first class that evening, and requested everyone bust out their tuxedos and dresses to mark the occasion in grand fashion. It was a remarkable evening. One disappointment, since I have to list one to feel as though I am being fair, is the wine list. We love the temperanillo, but really none of the others. But we're not here to drink wine, we're here to be social! It makes me a little sad that we don't have this type of drinking culture in the US. If you're not an alcoholic, you're not likely be on a first-name basis with the bartenders at a local watering hole. That's why I love walking in here; everyone knows everyone else, they're always happy to see you, they know what you drink, they pour a tasty pint, and are genuinely good people. I dig it.
