1-Star Review -- Extremely Rude and Unprofessional Service I stopped by Performance Muffler Auto Center in Hawthorne this morning to ask if they could add a small piece of sheet metal to a muffler part. As soon as I started explaining what I needed, the owner was dismissive and rude. When I thanked him but said $200 was too much for such a small job, he told me to leave and said, "don't waste my time," even though I was already walking away. I asked why he was being rude, and he got upset and repeatedly told me to "get out" and "leave." I took a picture of the shop and left. The whole situation was unnecessary and unprofessional. The sad part is his wife was there, saw and heard everything, but didn't say anything -- it seemed like she was used to that kind of behavior. I do not recommend this business to anyone. There are plenty of honest and respectful auto shops out there that value their customers. Please get the word out so others don't have the same experience read more

Problem wasn't fixed. Had to go back again and again. They never got it right. I would always be told it was either brakes, bearings or calipers. Fixed all of them and still the issue wasn't fixed. My car continued to make a noise. Wasted money it felt like they were just guessing and just trying to make money at this point. Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but got tired of going back. It's hard to find a good mechanic nowadays. Guy is nice but couldn't help but feel like I was being played. Maybe the only thing if I ever did return for would be a simple oil change. Even then I'd be hesitant. read more

Crooks!!!! Went in because of a noise I thought was due to an exhaust issue. Guy said exhaust needed to be replaced. Paid $900 and nothing changed. Insisted I leave my vehicle to get rid of the noise. The next day he said it was actually my timing belt that needed to be replaced. Told him no. Went to a real mechanic who diagnosed the issue and repaired it free because he new the place I went to robbed me. DONT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE!!! You rarely need to go to a muffler shop unless you have a muffler problem. The cat converters on our 2006 Toyota Tacoma had just reached the end of their useful life. JR took a look, and diagnosed that it was blocked from age. (344k miles). They were able to get a replacement cat, and have it installed in the afternoon in just a few hours. The price for labor was fair, and he did what he could to get the least expensive part for that. (One long pipe with 2 catalytic converters inside still runs about $1,800. There's nothing that can be done about that.) I hope I don't have too many muffler/catalytic converter issues in the future, but if I do I know where I'm taking it! Highly recommended, and though they don't have much of a waiting area, they're professionals who know their stuff. read more

From the moment that I walked in the people there were courteous and attentive. I told them what problems I was experiencing and they had a solution for each problem. They were full that day but they asked me to return the following day at 8:00am and they would handle my car and all its issued that day. I returned the following day and just as they promised, the work was begun. They completed it and test drove it by 3:00pm with the car performing better than it had in 3 years for a reasonable. I came here for the first time yesterday (my husband had been here a few years ago and liked them). I dealt with Ignacio, who was just great! I needed a new muffler. They put the car up and showed us exactly what was wrong and why, and how it affects everything (exhaust system rusted out). Quoted a very fair price and would have it done by the end of the day (after work for me, which was great!). Since Ignacio had to test drive a car they'd just changed the engine on, he even drove us home. He noted that I had a "fancy" muffler pipe at the back - I said I didn't need that - the last people I used put that on because it was all they had. He said, "I'll give you one like that too, no charge," and he did. Great job, reasonable price, very honest and efficient. They do all kinds of repairs. I'll be back! read more

I have been taking my work vehicles here for all of my maintenance for over 10 years . They have done everything from a simple oil change to replacing the entire motor. I have 3 work vans and they all run great because of Custom Muffler. They are always on top of it when it comes to getting my vans up and running. for me, down time is losing money. I had first me Natcho 14 years ago when I was working for another company. I went to a couple of other muffler shops in the near vicinity and they quoted over a hundred $ more for replacing the catalytic converter on my daughter's Jeep Grand Cherokee. Jr. is a really nice, and honest guy . And they are quick. I got it done while was up the street having lunch at Mi Zacatecas (also excellent). read more

First let me say for experience sake that I am a mechanical engineer who worked for Boeing in El Segundo for 33 years and grew up working on all our cars (my Father was an engineer for Oldsmobile for 30 years). So because of that, I can honestly say that I know a lot about cars and I know a great mechanic shop when I come across one. For years I was frustrated with the various auto repair shops I tried because they never gave me a good explanation of the problem and always tried to gouge me on parts and labor. They also tried to sell me services I didn't need. That was until I went to Custom Muffler and Brakes 20 years ago. Jorge Jr. and his mechanics are all top notch. They have serviced and fixed so many things on all of my cars over the years, that I can't even count them all. Every time, Jorge Jr. and his crew has expertly located the source of a problem, repaired them swiftly, and never, ever overcharged me. He has repaired or serviced all my cars, vans and SUVs over the years from various manufacturers (Oldsmobile, Chevrolet, Cadillac, Ford, Dodge, Porsche, Volkswagen, Honda and Mazda), Every time I ask for explanations of the problems, Jorge Jr. gives me an expert break down on the problem and the parts that need to be replaced. He also accurately recommends services such as belts, hoses, oil changes, tune-ups, brake jobs, etc. that are needed. (This I already know because of all my experience working on cars.) In the beginning, I was checking on repair or service prices. But Jorge Jr. always gave me amazing prices on the parts and labor and because of that, I trust him implicitly for each and every repair. This is the worst place ever...took my car Here because it wouldn't start so 1/of the guys calls nxt day says we can fix it....it'll run you $180.00 come back to pick it up...it literally goes 5miles per hour WTF...note not the best car I still had some miles to go....if they had no star's I would definitely go no star's read more
