We get the same breakfast from another catering company every other week, so thought we'd try a new place. My first experience was with the order - this is actually my 2nd time ordering, the last time was for some breakfast burritos. Both times I had problems ordering on the website and had to call. When I initially did my research, they came in similar priced if not a bit lower than the other company we regularly use. After placing my order, I noticed they charge a 20% "production fee" in addition to tax, gratuity, and then an additional 3.5% to pay by card, so it ended up being $100 more. Also, I figured for ordering a hot breakfast for 30 people they would put it in disposable chaffers to keep hot, but they didn't. A nitpicky complaint is the chopstick serving tools for the fruit didn't work well at all either. Overall, we weren't very happy.

My criteria: Typical Thanksgiving food (turkey and sides), gluten free, meal for two, and delivery. The only easy box to check was "typical Thanksgiving food" so I was really excited when I found Off the Vine. I asked a few questions over email and then ordered the meal plus the soup/salad add on. To make it gluten free they offered to make GF stuffing for a small fee or (for no extra charge) send us sweet potatoes AND gold potatoes instead of stuffing. My husband prefers sweet potatoes so we got those x2 instead. Everything was delivered on Wednesday evening and on Thursday I just had to heat things up. I enjoyed each of the dishes but I think my favorite was the cranberry sauce with persimmons. I hope they have Christmas dinner menu plans...

I wrote to LDC and asked if they could make an all-butter, vanilla cake for me, seeing that the people I'd be celebrating with have allergies and butter is the safest oil. They assured me that it would be no problem. I went to pick up the cake, and was surprised that the process was disorganized. Okay, well, I'll just take my cake. After a long wait, I got said cake. I was so excited when I got it home--it was beautiful! They took great care in decorating it. We cut it, and then began the disappointment. The cake tasted burnt, though it only was a deep brown. It was overdone, for sure. If I'd baked it, I would have trimmed off the top, bottom, and sides. The buttercream was decent, but the burnt flavor overwhelmed everything else. So, sorry, my dear Pomegranate peeps, but one star for your connection to Pomegranate, beautiful decorating, and decent buttercream, and minus four stars for disorganized pick-up and burnt, pricey cake that ended up down the drain.
