10/10 Experience - We did the candle making class for Valentines Day. For each candle making…read moresession you're guided throughout the entire process. After you check in at the register, they offer a complementary glass of Rosé or Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Juice. (You also have the option the bring your own bottle of wine) Afterwards, they show you the wall of vessels you'll make your candle in and a quick backstory about them and their multi-functional purpose. Then, they show you to the fragrance wall to smell and choose your scent. Then, they bring you back to the table to guide you through making your candle step by step. Once you start it goes by very quickly and next thing you know you're done! Takes about 3hrs for the candle to set and they let us know when your candle is finished. You can come back and they'll refill it for $10 with the same scent or a different scent. The class itself is $40 per person but a detailed guided experience, multiple vessel options, multiple fragrance options, and a pretty quick turnaround is well worth it!

But enjoyed the whole experience. G rest idea would be a discount coupon to a local restaurant as you have to wait 3 hours to get your candle back. Loved that you can do a wood wick for sure. I would do it again

High Country Candles is a lovely little store along the Main Street of Blowing Rock, and if it…read morehadn't been for my concern about how I'd pack an armload of candles into my carry-on luggage to fly back home? I would have spent WAY too much money here. The candles smell wonderful, come in a wide variety of scents, and are available in a breadth of sizes - as a matter of fact, their website states "We have 80 different wonderful fragrances we use to scent our handcrafted jar candles, pillars and votives." You can tell that the people here take pride in the craftmanship behind their candles, and they also offer various pottery selections - specifically, a wide variety of mugs, bowls, vases as well as candles trays - in the store. The staff is very welcoming as well - happy to answer any questions you have about what's available in the store. I just wish they shipped their wonderful candles!

I was overwhelmed with the options. I ended up purchasing a large jar candle which was $30 and burns for 145 hours. The size just below this one was $28 and burns for 95 hours. The scent I decided on was a mango sangria of sorts. I forgot the exact title. It's also new so it's not on their website. But the website does have a complied list of all their scents! And they offer shipping! I also bought several of their little small candles that burn for 10 hours. Because I bought 6 of them, I got a free glass container! Ive burned my mango sangria candle and LOVE it! You've really gotta keep the wick trimmed because it burns super bright and big! But it burns evenly and after a few hours it doesn't even look like it's been burned. I can already tell I'll get my monies worth.

The only thing I didn't appreciate was the high price for a lot of extremely used items. For example, there were items that were clearly boy gently used, but priced as if they were new!! I needed up purchasing only one shirt that I couldn't pass up. However, I enjoyed window shopping with locals.

Additionally, the building itself added nicely to the vintage mood as could be expected from the owner of Amelie's. Each vendor had a unique and distinct theme of merchandise so there was a purposeful variety, which gives two thumbs up to Amy H. for thinking ahead about customers' needs and bringing this concept to Charlotte; this type of gathering is more common in bigger cities, so it is refreshing to see it here. Items ranged from old Americana, Atomic '50s house-wares and lighting, clothing, art, to Chinoiserie furniture, and more. The event had such a huge turn-out that the ample on-site parking did not suffice, leading to some minor issues in the parking lot. Rest assured that this site does have ample parking, but this event received attendance that exceeded expectations, which is a good thing. Perhaps for future events the vendors could park in the rear, as I noticed that they had parked near the entrance. They should really have unloaded near the door, and then moved the vehicles to the very rear, as what happened was a bit inconsiderate to the patrons. But this was the only real problem with the event's organization, which is amazing for a first effort in the Queen city and very professional. I'm looking forward to more of these events. Maybe I'll camp outside overnight for the next one.
