10/10 Experience - We did the candle making class for Valentines Day. For each candle making session you're guided throughout the entire process. After you check in at the register, they offer a complementary glass of Rosé or Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Juice. (You also have the option the bring your own bottle of wine) Afterwards, they show you the wall of vessels you'll make your candle in and a quick backstory about them and their multi-functional purpose. Then, they show you to the fragrance wall to smell and choose your scent. Then, they bring you back to the table to guide you through making your candle step by step. Once you start it goes by very quickly and next thing you know you're done! Takes about 3hrs for the candle to set and they let us know when your candle is finished. You can come back and they'll refill it for $10 with the same scent or a different scent. The class itself is $40 per person but a detailed guided experience, multiple vessel options, multiple fragrance options, and a pretty quick turnaround is well worth it! read more

Really liked my experience at Paddywax while visiting, this was my first time where they have a selection of one,two or three wick candles. I did set an appointment but they do allow walk ins, when I got there I was helped immediately and directed to the scents and candle holders. I did like they were open to questions and the candle making instructions were right in front of me/easy to follow. I ended up picking winter berry it was a nice sweet smell. They even offer you a percentage off store retail when you make a candle and after you're candle is gone after using you can come back for a different scents at a lower price! read more

This is such a cool place to do a unique activity with friends, family or your Boo. Came here for an event and then returned with a group of friends. Candlemaking is so relaxing, and not only are there a variety of fragrances to choose from, but they have lots of beautiful vessels as well. I selected a wooden wick candle which I love. Had a fun date night at Paddywax this week! The materials all seem high quality, the scents are diverse and pleasing, and the vessels are so trendy and cute! They offer refills for $20 and $10 the last friday of every month. I would give this 3.5 stars. This is a very beautiful store with a lot of bright decor, candles, vessels and smells great with all the scents. The process is DIY and it is which. The instructions and very easy to follow in the book in front of you. They do validate parking for up to 90 minutes which is great given it's in a busy area with limited parking. Overall our experience here was just ok. We made a reservation and were a few minutes early. The staff unfortunately wasn't overly friendly as we felt very rushed throughout the process. A simple smile and even small talk would have made this experience better. The candle itself is fun that you got to choose your vessel and scent. I've completed the create your own candle workshop twice. Once I did it with friends and a second time with the nibblings and cousins. Both times were enjoyable and I'm glad I did it with friends before trying it with kids. The process is easy to follow. The staff is very helpful, answers all questions and assist with the creation of your candle. The hardest part is picking the container and the fragrance for your candle. The workshop can be kinda of pricey. I was able to find a coupon for both times I went. They also offered a discount to purchase other items in the shop the day of your workshop. I love the space. It is decorated nicely and has loads of cool items to buy. The candle studio is tucked inside Southend and parking can be difficult. I would make an outing of it and explore the area. Came here for a girls night and was not disappointed. It was $40 per person and we easily made a reservation, paid in advance, and signed all waivers online. There were many candle containers to choose from and what I like is how they can be repurposed: some can be used as cereal bowls and others planters once the candle is all melted. There were at least 20 different scents to choose from. However, it was very difficult to smell each individual one because there were already so many fragrances amidst the store, the sample candles were not very concentrated, and there were no coffee beans to cleanse our olfactory palates between oils/candles. I ended up picking a fragrance I thought would smell good, and it does, but I probably would have chosen something different and more floral had I known what the actual smell of the oil I was picking would turn out to be. The others in my party agreed that the final product of the candles was different then we expected. That being said, the candle I made here has a strong aroma and I love that it makes my whole house smell. All the staff are friendly and efficient. It's a pretty quick process. I am only giving it a 4 star for two reasons, this was our first time that my sister did for my birthday and we were not greeted and basically had to chase someone down to see where we needed to go for bookings. Love the fact that you can choose your own 1,2 or 3 wick vase. Such a cute establishment and idea for "things to do"! I'm a huge candle lover so I was excited to make my own candle. Once you check-in, they bring you to your assigned seat and then you can go pick your candle holder and scent. There's a nice amount of options for candler jars and scents. Smelling all the scent can be overwhelming so if you know the notes you prefer, use that as a guide. The Rosewood scent smells so freaking good and it's the scent I chose. & I do wonder if they ever change the options for the jars though. The experience goes by extremely fast after getting your jar and scent. The steps are pretty easy do follow. The biggest thing to pay attention to is where you place your wicks! Measure, mix and pour - and you're done. It takes a few hours to cure so you can pick it up the next day or have it shipped home if you're visiting. I believe you can go back and get a refill for about $20 bucks. In my opinion, I feel like the experience should offer a little more. When I say you can be done in 20 mins, it's true. For $40 you can select from several different vessels to create a candle. You can also choose a scent from multiple oils to add to the wax to personalize your candle the way you want it. I treated a group of my closest friends to a cute activity of candle making. Paddywax has a beautiful workshop and the overall aesthetic was definitely my vibe. Stacey was our instructor. She was so personable and knew how to make our experience one that we could look back and laugh. Class was about $40/pp and comes with a vessel of your choice. The setup of the workstation was cute and the guided cards were very helpful. You also get 20% other items in the store when you book a class. We all enjoyed our candle making class. I just wish it was a little bit longer, the candle could set a little faster (currently takes 3 hrs) and that the corking fee was half the price. Thankfully I only was charged one cork fee since I brought mini champagne bottles. Tip: get an early class so you have time to come back and get your candle and take a cute pic with it in the store. I love that the staff was all very nice and considerate when we came into class all of the items were organized for us and instructions were very clear our teacher was very knowledgeable about the candles in the product in the store and when needed she was very helpful as well. Per Covid: everyone was wearing a mask and it was really nice to see that the staff was so caring about our health and safety. The class was well worth what we paid considering all the candleholders can be utilized in other ways. A few of the scents were missing due to covid but otherwise they were in stock on everything else. After finishing a boozy brunch with my gal pal, we strolled through shops headed back to our local Airbnb while being lead by the fresh smell of doughnuts. Obsessed! So easy to sign up online, choose a time, and just show up. Once you walk in, you pick your candle holder and ALL of the options are so cute. I chose one with a wider base and I ended up getting more than my friends (15oz vs 11oz). Then, you pick your scent and I was a fan of a lot of them. It only took 30 minutes which was very fast and I kinda wish it took longer lol. You get 20% off their shopping area and the candle is ready after 3 hours. We went back after 2 hours and it was basically ready so they gave it to us! The staff was friendly and helpful but they don't guide or teach, you DIY! And the concept it a great way where there is so much you can do with it but unfortunately for me... Paddywax just completely missed the mark. $40 for a ten minute experience is not worth it in my opinion. And the staff was not friendly I made a reservation for my sister and I on a Friday night thinking it would be a fun activity (they offer the ability to BYOB - but you are charged a corking fee on top of the already forty dollar a person class). We opted not to bring anything and go thing we didn't since we were finished in ten minutes. We were sat down at our seats and told to follow the pamphlet. That's all. I was expecting an introduction, fast facts about different scents, what ones are popular, etc etc. -- nothing. The longest time spent is picking out what you want to pour the wax into (your candle vase) and the scent. Actual time of pouring the wax is probably 3 minutes and the whole thing was over in about 10 minutes. Let me start by saying the in-class experience was AMAZING--lovely vessel choice, knowledgeable staff, just an overall great time of learning how to create something that we typically purchase. The downside is what happens after. A friend & I made candles on 11/22. When I went to pick them up the week after Thanksgiving--we were told they'd be ready after the holiday due to the rush experienced at that time of year--on a Tuesday during the posted business hours, I arrived to find the doors locked. I called (received an outgoing message that was clearly from an earlier phase of COVID and a voicemail box unable to accept messages) googled, & checked social media--all of which still had the regular business hours posted. Through email, I later learned that the hours had been reduced, but not posted. Because of this, and the store's rule that all candles must be picked up within 30 days to avoid being donated, I ended up paying $16 to have the two candles that we made shipped. And have I mentioned that they lost my friend's candle but agreed to remake it and include it in the shipment? I wasn't loving this storyline, but expressed understanding that I should expect to receive the candles after Christmas due to the holiday rush. Fast forward to January--the candles finally arrived in late January...after I started another email thread to follow up. When I finally opened my box, you can imagine my surprise at finding a shipping list with two candles....yet only one of them (the one I made) was in the box. I called again but, you guessed it---no answer and an outgoing message stating that the number is not set up to receive messages. I give up. The lesson learned here is that, at Paddywax, one cannot expect for a business to make good on their word or provide the goods that you made & paid for. I guess I'll light up my one candle & figure out an alternative for my friend. Needless to say, I won't be back and would not recommend. read more

My experience was all positive with Paddywax. The candle pouring session is self guided so if it's something you've done previously I'm sure it would not take as long. But, essentially you pick your vessel (they didn't have any of the ones I liked but that was ok), then your fragrance (no mixing), and then you follow the step by step guide of setting your wick, measuring and mixing your fragrance and hot wax together and pouring. It's that simple. You then have to leave them there to set for 3 hours so I would suggest visiting a nearby restaurant & shops as there are a lot within walking distance or you can opt to have the shipped to you for a fee. The candle pouring sessions take place at the back of the store and you're able to purchase candles in the front retail space if you'd like. If they did an instructor led class that would be nice to get some educational information on the candle making process. They did have employees who were there to help if you had questions or wanted suggestions on fragrances. Overall a great experience. read more

The staff is very friendly and helpful with any questions you need. We browsed around for a few minutes and then looked at their scents. They have a huge selection from fresh, savory, sweet to warm. I decided with the bamboo and green tea. It smelled very fresh and clean. Our instructor (I forgot her name) was so funny and personable! We came here for my birthday and she wished me a happy birthday. She made us laugh a few times too. The class was fun and simple. The step by step process was a breeze. We paid for a candle making class which isn't actually a class because no one teaches you, it is DIY and you follow the steps in the book lol - we were disappointed almost immediately. We arrived and were barely greeted - we spoke first, no one stopped to welcome us - they just pointed to where we could sit. Two girls were working and were focused on whatever tasks they had. The girl in the front asked the employee in the back of the candle bar to help us. Please note, it was only the two of us in the candle bar at the time for the "class." The employee who gave us initial directions, was a very quiet speaker. energy was low. it just wasn't fun. She directed us to the guidebook you use and then literally leaves you alone until you need wax or your scent that she pre-pours for you. They don't try to initiate conversation with you, but maybe thats how they were trained? - its not great customer service. if you choose to do this, do it with a couple of people you cant mix scents and they have limited scent options based on other candle making classes Ive done. Entire process honestly takes 10-15 minutes, so this just didnt make sense to us. we could've ordered a kit on amazon and had an enjoyable/romantic date night at home instead of this. 11/19/22 My friend and I went to the Paddywax in Charlotte NC, and it was very disappointing. We heard a lot of good things about this activity, so we were pumped to go ..the moment we got there , no greeting we were just told to have a seat and to follow the pamphlet. This being our first time, we had a few questions about the process of making our own candles. I would also like to mention, the tables where you'll be creating your candle are already prepped, but we were missing at least half of the materials needed. So when asking a staff member for materials and/or questions she would be very dry and short, answering our questions as if we should naturally right away know exactly what we're getting into. We went ahead and finished creating our candles because it's something we paid for in advance , but knowing what I know now I wouldn't recommend this Paddywax location to anyone. Awe yelp was sweet and recommended I remember that businesses are trying their best during COVID and be nice. But if I'm going to spend $40 on a candle that I can't mix its fragrance, and learn nothing about candles/wax/fragrances, I should just go to Target? We arrived at 3:05 for our 3 reservation. There was one other party of 3 people, but it wasn't a class as we expected. A worker came by and gave us a very short (2 minute?) Spiel about filling out a form and then flip through a checklist, and then she left us alone to pick out a vessel from the wall (no idea about pros, cons of different vessels. I heard another worker tell the other party there was a $10 back deal on some specific vessel, but that info did not get to us). Then we went to get fragrances from another wall and tried to rush because there were the other people waiting. I picked two and mixed them but apparently that is verboten, now that I'm reading reviews. Then we (and the other party) we're lost. Turns out we were supposed to get wicks. Worker apologized and grabbed some wicks and threw them our way. I don't know what the straw was for, you stick your wick in the candle. Then they bring you hot wax, you mix it with the fragrance and pour it in the candle. At this point we did get our single tip: to pour slowly so we'd avoid bubbles. I heard someone tell the other people to stir in an H pattern but I didn't understand what that meant. And then you're done! It was $80 for the lamest 20 minute date we've been on in 10 years together. Next time we'll just walk through Target for thirty minutes and buy a handful of candles instead. read more

I've been to this location twice now and have enjoyed my experience both times. Both times were during covid, so the candle making process was self-guided. I would be interested in coming back when it's instructor led to do a deeper dive and learn more about the nuances of fragrances/candle making/etc. Because it was self-guided, the process was quick (you can probably finish in 30 min or less), so it was nice that the shop was also a retail store, in which you could walk/shop around after you were done making your candle. Overall, my experiences were positive. I enjoyed the process, aesthetic of the shop, and browsing the retail store. The parking garage is about a 10 minute walk. You can get your parking validated too, which is also a plus. Reminder to ask though, as I noticed that some of the associates don't share this information willingly. read more
