Chocolate Croissant

So cute! Why have I not been here before? Plentiful parking and though very busy, my family of 4 got a table right away. We ordered a cake online for my son and it was ready when I got there. A sprinkle cake, almond flavored with strawberry filling. Delicious and for $25 for a 6 inch cake I found the price to be reasonable. I had a maple latte with a BC eagle breakfast sandwich, my hubby had an americano with the Vermonter and my kids had a chocolate croissant and strawberry cheese danish. Everything was delicious, prepared quickly and the staff were all very friendly. Can't wait to return!

Whenever I'm back in Albany I like to come to delmar and come here. Such a cute place with awesome staff and great coffee and food. There is parking on the street and in the back. It can be packed at times. It seems pretty popular. There's even some retail items to buy as well. Definitely will be back.

I know times are tough and eggs are expensive, but maybe you should smell them before you make a sandwich with them, because the ones on my breakfast sandwich had clearly gone bad. Plus most of my latte was foam. It's amazing that every time I go here this place gets worse. I think I've learned my lesson this time.

Great place if in a bit of an inconvenient place. The selection of pastries is pretty great and super tasty. The drinks are also very good with a huge menu. We shared a cannoli which was super tasty if a bit soggy (possibly made yesterday?). A ton of seating and nice workers. I'd return, definitely.

Sub-par bagels, uncaring ignorant staff (one of whom never heard of lox), slow service. We won't be back.

I was staying in Albany on the way back from Lake George. I googled "bakery". I went to Nino's…read more Their Italian style cookies are amazing! I love them. I like the ones that are not very sweet as opposed to the sweet ones with gooey filling and I really loved theirs. Though not sweet they had a wonderful flavor and texture. The almond biscotti and anisette biscotti may be the best I have ever tasted. I also bought something called frizzle bread, that is a twice baked bread you can drizzle with olive oil, rub with garlic, lots of different things, very crunchy. Can't wait to try it. The lady who waited on me is very nice. I believe she and her husband are the owners. Small locally owned bakery. Cash only. Any time I am up that way I will stop at Nino's. I didn't go to the deli so can't speak about their sandwiches or anything else. Next time.

I have tried a variety of their buns and a few of their loaves and every one has been delicious. They also have a selection of Italian cookies. Everything is freshly made and reasonably priced. Their hours are limited, part of the reason it took me so long to check them out, but going forward I'm going to get my breads from Nino's whenever possible. I would love to try their rye bread, it seems to only be available on certain days. The shop is small and if you don't get there on the earlier side, the selection may be limited. Make sure to bring cash as it is a cash only establishment.

I had the Frankie sandwich on a plain bagel. D-lish!! There were Plenty of bagels to choose from at 1:15 in the afternoon. I also got a 1/2 dozen, 2 plain, 3 pumpernickel, 1 special of the day (salt & pepper) The women in the shop are delightful and great to chat with.

I'm not likely to be awake and out of the house with a thirty minute drive early enough to score the purchase of any. However, my wife had recently just heard about Pearl's, and we happened to be passing in the neighborhood thirty minutes before their 2 PM closing. Yes, they were still open, and no, they didn't have any bagel's left. In fact, that was the very first thing the clerk announced as we came through the door. "We are sold out of bagels and cannot make any sandwiches." As we looked at the small display case we saw four different pastries on a plate. My wife asked what they were and chose two. One was a strawberry marshmallow muffin and the other was some kind of brownie combination ($11 for the two). Once we returned home we were ready to share them. The muffin was super fresh, soft, and very enjoyable. But we didn't believe that there was a strong strawberry flavor and neither of us detected a marshmallow flavor. It didn't matter! This was a delicious muffin no matter what the flavor was supposed to be. The brownie "thing" might have been what their website menu calls a "Featured Daily Brownie." This looked like they used their challah dough to roll up around brownie mix like you would make a cinnamon roll with cinnamon/sugar instead of the brownie mix. Whatever, it was a total success. It was delicious with two different chewy textures and lots of flavor. Maybe some day my wife or I will have to be in Albany around 9 AM and get to try the bagels.

If you haven't stopped in for a breakfast sandwich, you are really missing out! Most days I tend to…read morebe prepared and bring breakfast to work or eat before coming in...or just skip breakfast altogether and wait it out until lunch time. Sometimes though, I get hangry in the mornings and take a few steps from my office building next door to Uncommon Grounds. I had basically given up on their breakfast sandwiches as their pre-made, frozen egg patty is just repulsive, and their prices are a bit steep. Paired with lackluster service, I am not always thrilled to order from there. But, I tend to keep it safe and get a bagel with cream cheese, since that usually hits the spot. Today, I wanted something more savory and filling...so I walked a bit further and across the street to Fiorello Bakery and Deli. I don't know why I hadn't thought to stop in sooner, as typically Italian Deli's such as theirs do have some amazing breakfast sandwiches. But, I'm so glad I finally did! Seems like they are a well kept secret in that regard, as there were a handful of people in ordering the same thing I was...sausage egg and cheese on a hard roll. There was a bit of a wait, maybe 10 minutes...which is to be expected when you're making something fresh to order. The woman at the counter was extremely pleasant and friendly, asked if I wanted salt/pepper and ketchup on the sandwich...I opted for the ketchup on the side so that I could dip each bite as I saw fit. With tax, the sandwich was $4, which i think is really reasonable considering a similar offering from across the street is about $1 more and Fiorello's puts 2 FRESH eggs on their sandwiches. Paired with the savory sausage, and melted cheese, this sandwich was a literal party in my mouth that I didn't want to end! I can't wait to go back...although my waistline probably can...

A friend of mine decided to monetize her 2020 baking obsession by starting up a home based baked…read moregoods business I like to refer to as a, "micro-bakery". So far I have been fortunate enough to try the following from her menu: Classic Cinnamon Rolls: These taste, well, like cinnamon rolls. Not the kind that are slathered, well practically drowned in liquid sugar to the point you get diabetes by simply touching one. More the kind that are fresh, firm, and taste like cinnamon without needing heavy amounts of glaze to do the heavy lifting for their flavor profile. If you like that notion and also knowing that you won't have glue hands after eating one, give these a try! Walnut Rolls: I believe these are based on a Ukrainian family recipe. They taste quite nutty in a good way. If you are looking for tasty buns that aren't overly sweet but still rich in their walnut goodness, and perhaps would like to have a flashback to your days at mom's table back in the Ukraine, give these a taste. Apple Fritters: These are firmly in the, "and stuff" part of the "Rolly-Poly Buns & Stuff" monicker. They justify the need for stuff other than buns being made at this micro-bakery as they are pretty darn tasty. Apple flavor comes out well in these little delights. S'mores Buns (Limited Time): I am looking forward to trying these new items soon. For now all I have is the description from the website below: "Filled with chocolate, covered in toasty marshmallows, you can't go wrong with these. Sure to be a favorite of anyone with a sweet tooth." In terms of service, she likes what she does and is friendly. When ordering from the website, you will need to request anything at least 24 hours before you get it. There is not a same day delivery option. Delivery is local (capital region only) and only on weekends. Pickup is any day. If you want to drive there from wherever, that wouldn't be a problem :) Payment system currently requires PayPal. All prepared goods follow the Home Processing Guidlines by NY State. However, GF cannot be guaranteed though vegan options could possibly be accommodated upon request. The business owner is just getting started and is open to innovation in terms of new items that could be worked into their, "special flavor" category. Send any ideas to their company email at rollypollybuns@gmail.com. I recommend giving this place a shot. Give it a shot because you don't get much more small than a home owned business and you don't get much more local either. Give it a shot because it'd be pretty darn cool if something positive like this could come from, well lets face it a pretty terrible year. Also, because the food is good! Finally, if you are picking up, understand this is a home, and further understand that you would be expected to adhere to current covid safety protocols such as wearing a mask, social distance, and so on. Here's hoping you try it, love it, say so in Yelp! And possibly make the term, "micro-bakery" a thing :)

After seeing Asaf's review of this place I decided to splurge and order some things from here. I…read morelove homemade donuts and other baked goods, so after looking at their website I picked half orders (6) of the apple fritters and the smore's rolls. Delivery is available on the weekends, but since I live within a couple of miles I elected for pick up. Using their website was easy as... umm... cinnamon rolls? I talked with the baker who was putting them outside on a table a couple of minutes before pickup. Eating them fresh is nice, but warm out of the over is even better. She recommended warming them up before eating so I microwaved my apple fritter for 30 seconds in the microwave. It was great! It wasn't too sweet and that is partially because the dough didn't seem to have a lot of sugar in it. The glaze certainly did though and overall I thought it was a nice balance. I definitely tasted a nice, warm spice but can't put my finger on it. Likely cinnamon, but it seemed a little more nuanced than just that. They were very dark (but not burned) and would remind you of a pastry you might get at the supermarket but with a bit less sugar. I liked that. The smores ones did look as good as they could have, and they were a bit hard at room temperature. I heated them up as recommended and they became transformed into a decadent treat that tasted a lot like smores. I could pick out the graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallow and it made a mess on my fingers like a real one would. I think I would have preferred multiple smaller marshmallows on top instead of one large one as that came off in one bite. But, they were much better tasting than I expected. Note: Despite the wax paper liner in the box, I suggest not putting them on your car seat when you pick them up as they are a bit greasy and it goes through the cardboard. You have been warned. Prices aren't cheap, and I assume they are a little more if you elect for delivery. But in these hard times we all need to splurge on something now and then and also support local places. I did both of those, so this was a two-fer.
