What a unique experience here at Pepper Lunch! I got the beef pepper rice, and it gets served on a sizzling hot plate. You cook the meat and mix in the veggies in the hot plate. While entering you can order on the self serve kiosk and there is a page where you can add toppings for an additional cost. You also pick a number buzzer, enter the number and then sit wherever there is an open table. When it gets served you have the option to have the staff cook it for you. Since it was my first time here, I decided to have the staff cook it and she was very friendly and efficient with the cooking. NOTE: the hot plate is HOT. Even after everything is done cooking and you're ready to eat it, the plate can still be hot. I accidentally touched the hot edge of the plate while eating and didn't expect it to still be that hot!! We also got a chicken karaage which is Japanese fried chicken. It was delicious and perfectly fried! I had a great time here, there's clean seating and friendly staff. We came here for lunch over the weekend. I ordered their cream shrimp pasta 16.99 and my husband ordered their beef pepper rice $13 with an egg 1.99 | total came out to be ~$32 without tip. You pay at the 2 kiosks and then you find your own seating. Plenty of seats in the restaurant. The food came out pretty quick. The shrimp is already cooked. Once served, they ask if you want it mixed by the servers. I opted yes and my husband opted no. They said to mix first before adding the sauce or the sauce may burn. The cream on my pasta doesn't have much flavor, but pairs well with the pasta, shrimp, mushroom, onions, and pepper paste. Not sure if this restaurant is a chain or independently owned. There was a pepper lunch in milpitas, ca that had the same concept, but they also had udon noodles instead of just rice, which was my favorite so I was a little disappointed when all they had were rice options. If you take away the sizzle, then you're just left with a stir fry. Finally open! This is a Japanese classic that used to exist in Houston, but closed down eventually so I'm so excited to see it re-entering the market. The beef bowl comes out in a sizzling, hot platter with rice and corn and green onions. I'm a fan of dosing it in the garlic and sweet sauce. You can also easily customize it with any extra add-ons. We ended up going during the grand opening and it was a blast. The one thing I didn't love was how cooked the karaage as it felt like it was left in the fryer a little too long, but due to the fact that it was their grand opening, I'm not gonna blame them for that until I've had it again.
